Ana Bacon, a beautiful young wife and mother, tumbled off a cruise ship into dark and deadly waters. Ana is gone--leaving behind her wealthy husband and adorable daughter--but not everything about her disappearance adds up. What secrets did she leave behind?
Investigator Ryan Monahan is a numbers man. So when his company sends him the Bacon case, which could net a ten-million-dollar payout, Monahan doubts that her death is just a tragic accident. But the husband has a substantial alibi and a number of witnesses claim to have seen Ana fall, and the official ruling seems to hold up.
Still, the more Monahan uncovers about Ana’s life, the more he realizes how many people would kill to keep her secrets hidden. And the closer he gets to the truth, the greater the odds grow that he, too, will take a fatal fall.

This book grabbed me from the very first page and did not let up until the last page. It is a quick moving thriller with characters you will remember long after you have finished it. I highly recommend it.
Loved this book! A really good page turning story that had me right from the start! I couldn't put it down- practically binge read it over the weekend. Liked the alternating chapters from the investigator's viewpoint and Ana's; the story always kept moving forward. Would've given it 4.5 stars, but I had too many questions in my mind about how this would actually work in real life
( Okay....I know this is fiction and I need to suspend belief, but still.......)
I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good, quick read!
Thanks to Netgalley and Crooked Lane publishers for the opportunity to read an advance digital review copy!
It’s a terrible tragedy, a young wife, Ana Bacon has fallen from the deck of a cruise ship to her death. Ana had a sizable life insurance policy, $10 million dollars and as is standard practice in a payout that size, the insurance company has sent an investigator to make sure everything is on the up and up. Ryan Monahan doesn’t believe Ana’s death was an accident; the problem is her husband has an alibi and several witnesses saw Ana fall. AS Monahan digs into Ana’s and her husband’s lives, he uncovers more questions than answers. It would appear that Ana has some pretty scandalous secrets, secrets that might just be worth killing for. And as Monahan uncovers those secrets, he puts himself in a killer’s crosshairs. This mystery kept me guessing! The pacing is relentless and I would defy anyone to put this book down once they start to read
Very rarely do I rate a book with 5 stars, but this exquisitely crafted tale of how greed can infiltrate and ultimately destroy what may appear to others as an outwardly perfect marriage painted a wicked picture of what the loss of scruples can inspire.
Tom, the husband in this novel, loves to live the privileged life of a well-to-do patriarch. He loves his Maserati, fine wines and friends in the upscale community in which he and his wife had settled just a few years ago. Now, however, it's been over a year since he lost his lucrative job, and he's become despondent and complacent. His wife, Ana, still loves her husband, and believes that -- with a few sacrifices -- they can make it through these difficult times and rebuild the life to which they'd become accustomed.
Tom, however, is determined to keep his social standing intact in any way necessary. Once Ryan, an insurance investigator, begins his research into the circumstances of Ana's alleged death prior to releasing any policy funds, hubby devises -- supposedly with Ana's knowledge and approval -- a plan whereby they board a cruise to the Bahamas and Ana "accidently" falls overboard and is subsequently pronounced dead. What Ana doesn't know, though, is that hubby's been involved in multiple affairs and is planning Ana's real demise, thereby not only allowing him to retain his lavish lifestyle, but to enjoy it with someone much younger and more exciting than Ana. Once Ana discovers Tom's 's real motivations, the ensuing twists and turns of the plot accelerate to breakneck speeds, and you're along for the ride... no matter the time of day or night.
Not only was the storyline completely engaging, but Ms. Holahan's brilliant character development and completely realistic dialog are the delicious icing on the cake. This is an author to watch, as I've no doubt whatsoever in her ability to inspire more sleepless nights. Well done, and highly recommended.
