Tail and Trouble is such a great book. I love to read anything that involves witches, magic, and so forth. This book had it all. I thought the characters were very believable and I connected with them immediately. Orson the bulldog is quite the character,I couldn't help but fall in love with him.
Gabriel is panicked that his girlfriend Sheila has not returned from a coven errand. Since Gabriel is not familiar with witches, he is on his own trying to locate her. It's not unusual for Sheila to disappear for a while, but in his heart Gabriel knows she would never leave Orson, Sheila's familiar, for that long.
Orson and Gabriel team up and begin their search. Before long they are caught in a whirlwind of dark magic and finding Sheila may prove to be impossible.

I loved this book and even though I'm not a dog lover would love to have a dog like Orson. Imagine how easy he could make life. The only problem that I had was that it felt to me that Tail and Trouble was the second in a series and not the first as I found out. I would love maybe a short novella to explain the events that lead up to Sheila's disappearance. I loved all the characters and the antics that Orson and Gabriel got up to in searching for Shiela. This was a funny lighthearted read that I would definitely recommend to fantasy lovers.
Gabriel's girlfriend has been missing for two weeks, and he's starting to get really concerned. She's been gone before on missions for her witchy coven, but never this long without contact. Normally, she can't say anything because the coven has no use for him. So, he takes Orson, Sheila's dog familiar, and goes on a road trip to find her, starting with the last place she was seen. Soon, he has some leads, and finds out who is more than likely behind her disappearance, but not why it was done, or where Sheila is now. But, Gabriel seems to be foiled too many times. Is Sheila's cousin, the one helping him, trying to stop him? Or there something more sinister at play?
Gabriel and Orson were a delight to read about in this book. Their bond and their love of Sheila, their missing "mama," while they were trying to find her was so extremely adorable, I wish it could happen in real life. I found their interaction to be one of the best things in this book. That aside, the book was well-written, the plot interesting, and the characters were fascinating. I found the mystery at times to be a little too contrived at times, especially when/how they found Sheila, but the mystery was still very interesting to read it while it unfolded. I hope there will be more books with these characters because I'd really like to hear how they fare striking out into the unknown. If you like fun, cozy mysteries with a paranormal twist, you will like this one. A very solid 4 1/2 stars! Recommend!

A very cute book. Gabriel is looking for his girlfriend Sheila, who happens to be a witch. He teams up with her familiar Orson, who happens to be a bulldog who talks. Gabriel and Orson, love their witch. This fuels their frantic search for her. I don't know how the police never seem to get involved during the multiple episodes of violence, mayhem and even murder, but the book was cute and I laughed out loud several times, which is always a must in a good book. I felt that I did not get to know Sheila all that well, just that she went through some tough stuff with her Stepdad, and that she is a more powerful witch than she lets on. That part of the book, could have used a little bit more thought.
This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night. This was such a great read and full of surprises. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
Bulldogs are profoundly lovable with their squat chunky bodies, slobbery kisses and earnest demeanor - and Orson is the most attractive of the bunch. He rapidly steals the spotlight with his ability to talk and work magic. When his Mama (Sheila, a powerful young witch) goes missing, Orson and Gabriel (her boyfriend) follow her trail to Florida.
Victor Catano's depiction of Florida hits the target. I loved how he described the attractions and hotels of Orlando as lampreys feeding off a mouse eared shark. Also liked his creative use of Dinosaur World. Whether you are a Florida resident or merely a visitor there is a lot to enjoy. The setting works well with the plot highlighting the comic aspects. I absolutely cracked up when I discovered the climactic battle was to take place at The Holy Land Experience which is a weird place even by Christian standards.
Tail and Trouble is tons of fun. It has a great canine lead, oodles of Florida humor, bad guys who are as laughable as they are malevolent, and just a touch of romance - what more could a reader ask for in a light paranormal/comic romp.

This book has everything I love - a mystery involving witches (good and bad ones), adventure (a road trip to Florida), humor, and an adorable bulldog who just happens to be a witch's familiar. I definitely would recommend this book!
Fun urban fantasy
I enjoyed this book. Author Victor Catano tells an interesting, fun and well-paced urban fantasy (witchcraft) story. I found it hard to put down even though I did feel that Gabriel (the main protagonist) could have been a more sympathetic character. In general, the character development could have been stronger. On the other hand, the action scenes were excellent. And the dialogue between Gabriel and Orson the dog (the witch Sheila's familiar) is excellent and lends humor to the story.
Tail and Trouble by Victor Catano is a wonderful book that I really enjoyed. When Gabrial's witch girlfriend, Shelia, never comes home after a trip, Gabrial and Shelia's familiar, Orson, a bulldog, set out to find her and bring her home. The relationship between Gabrial and Orson is great, and I love how Orson calls Shelia mama.
Not only is this book really funny, it has a great mystery, and exciting magic. There are twists and turns around every corner. I found this book to be a quick read, with a well developed plot and characters. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. If you love humorous paranormal cozy mysteries, I strongly recommend this book.
I love how the story is from a man's point of view! What a nice change. I love the two protagonists, both tm the name and the bulldog are perfect foils for each other and they both love their girlfriend/mama. Great high jinks abound, and the story is very well-written, with good character development, interesting characters that you both want to love and hate.
I look forward to this author writing more in this series. I highly recommend this. It had me laughing out loud, and trying to guess who done it. My favorite combination and a book.

A fun and quirky book of a man and his girlfriends familiar, who happens to be a bulldog, as they go searching for her when she disappears to Florida. Good job overall, and I would give a 3.5, with the main problem being that it bounced around a bit too much, jumping from present to memory to present, it got me a bit dizzy. Also, a bit more background on the characters would help too, for example, Ramona never came across as important until the end. I would have to say though that this book had some fun moments, and really liked the dog, once I got used to his talking telepathically. Would recommend, and would make a nice summer read.
I hope this is the first of a new series by Victor Catano. A delightful tale of a witch, her boyfriend and her familiar bulldog, Orson. When a deranged witch finds a powerful magical stone, Sheila is sent by her coven to retrieve the stone even if she has to trade her familiar for it. When Gabe and Orson follow her to Florida after she has been missing for several weeks, the action starts to heat up. This is a little different from most witchcraft books with a dog who can communicate with Gabe and Sheila and a coven leader who is power hungry. I enjoyed the little coven of Sheila, Gabe and Orson and hope they continue to fight evil magic in their own unique way.
