This is a fun silly book for the elementary and middle-school crowd, told in sequential art, otherwise know as comic book style, format.
Funny bits, cute bits, bits about thinking before you act. Lots of fun to read, plus a bit at the end about real lasers.
Kids will find it enjoyable, as will adults.
This was a really cute comic. My daughter loved the seriousness of Laser Moose and the fun loving Rabbit Boy. This serious reminds me of the Gerald and Piggy books. Entertaining for both kids and adults.
This was super cute and actually really funny. My oldest was wandering off and wasn't interested...until Laser Moose accidentally lasered off a deer's leg and the deer says, "not again!" - that had CW in stitches. He stuck around for the rest of the comic.
It was unexpected and it really tickled all of us, even my husband who just facebooks through story time. There is Rabbit Boy, who is blessed with unwavering optomism. There is Laser Moose who shoots lasers out of his eyes and feels like evil is lurking everywhere. There is Cyborgupine (cyborg + porcupine) who is Laser Moose's arch rival. Then there are just silly situations that Moose makes worse before Rabbit helps him make it better.
There is no gore and the violence is minimal, I think. Perfect for kids to hone their reading skills with something silly.
Laser Moose and Rabbit Boy is essentially for kids, but I think it’s a good palate cleanser for jaded comic readers as well. It’s simple, it’s funny and very meta as it takes a crack at storytelling found in classic comic books.
The book is split into four stories and clocks in at 146 pages, which seems like a lot until you start reading it. It probably only took me twenty minutes or so to read it and I was delighted by it. The Laser-Moose-and-Rabbit-Boy-1stories all have a similar set up, Laser Moose is looking to bring the justice to the forest and Rabbit Boy is there to help, but ultimately his voice of reason. Laser Moose does in fact shoot lasers from his eyes. This tends to create more problems than it solves. For instance, in the first story he jacks up an alien space ship trapping the aliens on earth. He also destroys the forest as much as he saves it, which is just a great bit of meta commentary on the superhero genre as a whole.
The art is a strange beast. It walks a fine line between having enough detail or not enough detail. Creator Doug Savage is actually quite talented at knowing when enough is enough. Because of this is gives it a very kids book vibe. It reminded me a lot of books I would get from Scholastic growing up and that’s always a great memory to invoke. For the most part the animals are kept pretty realistic looking in design. There’s a few exceptions of course, but that’s the charm of the story.
Laser Moose and Rabbit Boy is fun and entertaining. I had a couple of actual laugh out loud moments which was nice. The rest of the book just left a smile on my face and reminded me that people will always find a way to make good comics, you just have to keep looking for them. If you have a kid, this is a great pick for them. If you don’t and you’re jaded and burnt out on comics, this is just a nice, fun slap in the face to tell you we’re supposed to enjoy this medium more than hate it.
Very fun book and I loved the educational information and experiment in the end. Might not be a great read for some parents as one animal looses a limb by laser and has to get it reattached. Not gory, just might make some people upset.
This is hilarious. Three short stories featuring Laser Moose who is always on the look-out for danger and Rabbit Boy who looks on the bright side of things. The stories are really cute and the humour is a little dark. Moose hears rustling behind a bush and assumes it is danger lurking so he laser blasts the bush. Oops! It was just Frank the deer foraging but now his leg has been sawn off and it's not the first time Laser Moose has done this! Later we find Frank the deer in a tree being attacked by Aquabear (who fell in a toxic swamp with a fish and turned half bear/half fish, only later he falls in again with a beehive and turns into Aqua-Bee-Bear.) It's just so silly it's hilarious. The back of the book has a little edu-lesson with an experiment for kids to try. This is hilarious too.
Ridiculous but fun. Should definitely appeal to younger readers.
I'm a big fan of Savage's web comic so I was thrilled to have a chance at this one. It's just as odd as Savage Chickens. Odd in a good way of course. He writes such quirky characters. The intense and morose moose who constantly shoots stuff with his laser eyes. I'm not sure it will strike the right chord with the average young reader who isn't likely to completely get it. But a good choice for your weirdo friends.

I received this book from NetGalley in Exchange for an honest review
Laser Moose and Rabbit Boy is a cute graphic novel about this unlikely friendship between a rabbit and a moose that shoots lasers from its eyes and fights off evil in the forest.
It's short, and adorable, and contains 3 short little stories within it. I really love the art style, and the friendship in the book. The stories were funny, the characters fallible yet fun.
There honestly isn't much more to say than if the premise seems interesting, chances are you'll like the book. The relationship between Laser Moose and Rabbit Boy reminds me of the dynamic between Heart and Brain in Nick Seluk/The Awkward Yeti's book.
All in all a cute, short, fun read!
