Description

Seventeen-year-old Kay’s journey of a lifetime started in the woods where she met a beautiful man … along with a monster. The chance encounter led her to an unbelievable world that shouldn’t have existed, a place where myths and fairytales were real and, in some cases, deadly.

Kay knew she would have to brave this new world if she hoped to find a cure for her terminal cancer.

With a strange yet beautiful cast of characters, Kay uncovered truths that would change her life forever. However, before it was all over, she discovered she wasn’t the only one with problems.

Yet another seventeen-year-old young woman was fighting for her life.

Kira had grown up in a magical world. Despite this, her life had not been filled with many good things. She considered her empty, emotional solitude the only positive aspect of her life and fought daily battles to escape abuse and torture.

Trained to be an expert assassin, she was charged with kidnapping Kay and delivering her to Kira’s master, Lord Donovan.

As the two young women set forth on their journeys, their paths would cross in unimaginable ways. There was only one question that remained: who would come out alive?

“Fans of Julie Kagawa’s dark YA Iron Fae series will enjoy Jesse Lane’s and M.L. Pahl’s debut novel, The Burning Star. Not as dark or emotionally heavy, Lane and Pahl take the basic mythology behind the fae stories we’ve all read and adds their own twists to the story… I enjoyed the crisp writing style that flows through the story. Often, paranormal stories, especially involving fae, are interjected with flowery prose and emotional angst that leaves you feeling worn out once you’re finished. Lane and Pahl don’t go that route. Within here, humor, action, suspense, and romance, all circle around normal teenagers.” - Smexy Books

“Lane and Pahl keeps the reader’s attention with her clever plot twists and her vivid imagery. They lay out the world of supernatural beings and their customs. I think this might be the best book I’ve read describing the other realms and races of supernatural beings and their ancestry.”- Open Book Society

“…the way it [the book] ended … you better believe I will be begging for book two. Like now. Maybe even yesterday. I wish I could point to one thing that is making me go all “fan girl” for this book, but you just have to trust me. It is a combination of good writing, well thought out characters, a believable world, and a few surprises.”- Little Read Riding Hood

5 Star Review from Author Erin Manbeck:
I tagged this book as "reading" two weeks ago. Unfortunately, I didn't get to it until this morning. Let me tell you...I'm tired. Every time a chapter came to an end and I thought I could take a break, I was sucked right back in. Every chapter brought on something new and I felt like if I stopped reading I was going to miss something.
I also loved how the author had me questioning who I could trust throughout the book.
2 huge pluses...You can't help but love a book whose main character is a ginger, automatically means feisty which means my kind of book. You also can't hate a book that has a female character whose weapon of choice is a whip. Book two downloaded and ready.
