Description
In this collection from popular Web comic Yasmine Surovec, fabled characters and fairy princesses are replaced with cat ladies and gents ... and cats. Rapunzel’s prince comes to rescue…his cats. Sleeping Beauty’s true love’s first kiss comes not from a prince but from a curious kitty. Each comic puts a contemporary witty spin on classic stories while continuing Yasmine’s brilliant comedic take on cats and their owners. The result is a collection that illustrates that cat ladies make for more interesting (and somewhat crazy) princesses.

Imagine well-known fairy tales with a feline twist! The spotlight shines on pretentious kitties everywhere, thanks to Yasmine Surovec's illustrations and imaginative story telling. Cat vs Human Fairy Tails is a must-have for all cat lovers, especially lonely, crazy cat ladies.
This was super cute and funny. The Goldilocks story is particularly funny and captures the nature of cats! This would definitely be a fun gift for any cat lover.
I love EVERYTHING about this book. Like many other girls I have pinned pieces of this book on Pinterest, thinking it was the cutest thing ever (which it is) I would recommend this to any cat/fairy tail lover!
I love the kitten's facial expressions in Goldilocks!
(I am using a lot of exclamation marks.... cuz how can you not when you are talking about kitten fairy tales?!)
My favorite tale was "The Ugly Kitten". I have a soft spot for critters that are a little funny looking, and that little ball of lint was perfect.
'Cat vs Human Fairy Tails' is a collection of short comics by Yasmine Surovec, that gives a lovely contemporary cat-spin to our long-known and long-loved fairy tales. I’ve never read any of Surovec’s works before so I was expecting a little more depth from this collection—perhaps because I had thought that she would be giving a complete (which is as much of the ‘original’ text as possible), witty, cute-sy, whimsical twist to the 'Grimm’s Fairy Tales'.
Of course, that doesn’t happen, and what I ended up finishing gives off a more children’s picture/comic book feel. However, that isn’t a necessarily bad thing. The art is adorable and I love the bright colours, but the typography would be better with a little bit more of a variety in terms of font usage because different fonts create different atmospheres. Seeing the same font used for dialogue, narration, thought dialogue and SFXs (special/sound effects) was a little disconcerting. Also, breathing space inside the text bubble would be much appreciated as well.
That aside, this book is certainly a light-hearted and quick read. The humour is entertaining albeit not as witty as I’ve expected. Even so, 'Cat vs Human Fairy Tails' would be perfect for when you need a little bit of cheering up on a gloomy day.
This is a really cute book for cat lovers- adults and children alike. I love the twists, like perhaps a princess' true love is not a prince, but a cat? Or that a Goldilocks cat wouldn't enjoy sleeping in any of the beds? All around cute and fun.
Cat vs. Human is a fun, whimsical web comic that I have enjoyed for some time. This new book gives cat lovers a fresh take on favorite fairy tales. Filled with twists and turns on tradition and adorable cats this is a great read for comic strip fans and pet lovers.
A retelling of fairy tales including cats. Fairy tales include princess and the pea, sleeping beauty and Jack in the bean stalk to name a few. I especially liked the Little Mermaid and Repunzel. Another hysterical cat book by Yasmine Surovec.
I want to throw this book in my friends' faces (or just people that I pass on the street, I don't have that many friends) and look at them while they smile and laugh, because this is the cutest, most adorable book in the world and you all need to read it.
No, I'm serious, you can not be sad while reading this book. If you wish to be sad you need to read a different book, this will make you smile.
My only problem with this book is that it is too short. Ms Yasmine Surovec, please make more Cat vs Human Fairy Tails :D
*I received this book from NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing in return for a fair review.*
10 stories involving cats. In fairy tails; or, retellings of fairy tails, this time with cats.
We have:
Rapunzel
A blond woman is bored and in a castle. She has long hair that she dangles out of a window. As anyone who has cats know, cats just love dangling thingies. And so, every time Rapunzel lets her hair dangle, cats climb up (and, eventually, one man).
Hmms. Really really short. Somewhat expected a little more.
Goldilocks
hehe, Goldilocks is a cat in this one. *nods*
heh - 'oh goodie! beds!'
hehehe - where the cat finally finds to sleep . . .
The cat expresions in this one are great.
The Ugly Kitten
Vaguely better moral, I suppose than 'ugly duckling and swan' since one involves someone being transformed into a beauty and then everyone liking them; as opposed to here. With an ugly kitty turning into an ugly cat, and being loved despite that.
The Princess and the Kitty
'I'm really amazing and I deserve the best.' - sometimes the main character is a cat, sometimes a human. Which do you think started off their story with this comment? Hehe, no, was human (kinda).
The Princess and the Pea
heh - princess be a cat.
heh - the solution to the pea problem was quite cat like.
Jack and the beanstalk
'what th-?'
'don't ask'
hehehe
The Little Mermaid
um. hmm.
The Pied Piper
heh
Sleeping Beauty
'I I must touch it' - hehehe
aww
The Little Match Girl
hehe
Overall - some cute stories, some fun stories, and a few meh stories.

Yasmine Surovec, author of the Cat vs Human blog, loves cats (as it was easy to point out reading Poems about Cats), and in this new book she retells the most famous fairy tales focusing on cats, beloved by princes and princesses.
Cat vs Human Fairy Tails is colorful and funny, a must read for the one who love these fluffly deities.
Thanks to the publisher for providing me the copy necessary to write this review.
This takes all of ten minutes to get through, but it's pretty adorable. The artist re-imagines several popular fairy tales from a feline perspective. I especially enjoyed "Goldilocks" where a cat chooses a cardboard box over all three beds. There's not a lot of content here, but enough to bring a smile to the faces of crazy cat persons the world over.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for giving me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Cats are the real star of the show in this book (as they deserve to be)!
The cover shows a blonde princess with a Rapunzel braid surrounded by kittens and actually saying “Squeee!” She also says it when a prince shows up. I’ve never known anyone to actually SAY it rather than just written, so that’s unusual right away.
The title is misleading. Goldilocks, the Little Mermaid, Sleeping Beauty, and many others don’t have any kind of fights with the kitties, quite the opposite. It’s all meant to be cute for kids, and it is, unless you have one of those tots that questions everything. Most stories end on a positive, if forced, note. Jack and the Beanstalk had a good twist, as did Sleeping Beauty. The Little Mermaid looks happy, but c’mon.
3.5 pushed up to 4/5
Cat vs Human Fairy Tails was super adorable and the perfect combination of fairy tales and cats!
This book contained 10 fairy tales with cute twists on them to include cats. The author did a great job changing up the fairy tales and adding humor to the stories. My favorite was in Goldilocks where the cat chose to sleep in a cardboard box rather than any of the beds! I've read some of the authors comics before, so I was familiar with her art style and I rather enjoy it. It's very simple and includes a lot of color, which I like.
Overall, this was a fun, quick read that I would definitely recommend to all cat lovers.

A whimsical book that kept me.entertained. It was an enjoyable and engaging read. It made me.appreciate cats even more.
Genius! I love both cats and fairy tales, so I found this book hilarious and amazing - because everything is better with cats!
Cat vs. Human is an adorable series about cats and their humans versus the cats belonging to humans - as is the truth which you know if you own a cat. In this installment, we have the retelling of human fairy tales as cats would see them or interact with humans in them and it is in graphic novel format. The graphic novel has beautiful richly colored bright images throughout and is a very easy read.
Some of the re-told tales include: The Little Mermaid, Jack and the Beanstalk and the Ugly Duckling - appropriately renamed to 'The Ugly Kitten'. This book was very entertaining and I really enjoyed reading it over a lunch break. The illustrations are simple yet captivating and the re-tellings are humorous but still true enough to the originals to spot what tale they are. I think that the author did a wonderful job conveying the hilarity that is cat ownership and love, and shows cats in their very natural state of taking everything over.
If you are a cat lover, I strongly recommend this for you. It is adorably purr-fect (hahahahaha- sorry, if I can't laugh at myself, who will).
A brief but adorable collection of cat twists on classic fairy tales. My favorite was Sleeping Beauty as I have my own cat that likes to wake me from my slumber with kisses! It will make for a good impulse purchase counter book for stocking stuffers as the holidays approach!
I couldn't stop laughing while I was reading all the fairy tales son differents thanks to cats!!!
I enjoyed it although the drawings aren't the best
Cats. Fairy Tales. I couldn’t request this title fast enough. I’ve followed Surovec for years on tumblr. This is a quick, adorable, and fun read. It would make a great gift for both cat lovers and those who adore fairy tales.
Thank you to NetGalley for the review copy.
Cat vs Human Fairy Tails is a sweet look at fairy tales, but with cats added for extra cuddliness. Stories such as Rapunzel, Jack and the Beanstalk, Goldilocks, and Sleeping Beauty jump off the page with whimsical art and charming re-tellings of the traditional stories. I only had to read the first fairy tail to get taken in by artist Yasmine Surovec's view of the world.
'Cat vs Human Fairy Tails' by Yasmine Surovec the creator of Cat Versus Human. It didn't take me long to read through this, but the comics were definitely funny and cute.
Cats are inserted into familiar fairy tales. In Rapunzel, Rapunzel finds cats in her hair as she pulls it up every day. In Sleeping Beauty, the Prince can't wake Sleeping Beauty, but maybe an adorable kitty can. In Goldilocks, the three beds are passed by and the kitten chooses to sleep in a box. There are others like the Little Match Girl, The Princess and the Pea, Jack and the Beanstalk and more. The addition of a kitty changes the outcome of each story in cute and funny ways.
It didn't take me long to read through this 128 page book, but it made me smile. The drawings are bright and the gags, while mostly predictable, were still fun. The scenarios tend toward grown-up, but I don't see a reason why kids wouldn't enjoy these.
I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.
