Description

“The perfect weekend getaway: crafting, food, and a murder or two!”—New York Times bestselling author Lynn Cahoon

For thirty-something blogger Cora Chevalier, small-town Indigo Gap, North Carolina, seems like the perfect place to reinvent her life. Shedding a stressful past as a counselor for a women’s shelter, Cora is pouring all her talents—and most of her savings—into a craft retreat business, with help from close pal and resident potter Jane Starr. Between transforming her Victorian estate into a crafter’s paradise and babysitting Jane’s daughter, the new entrepreneur has no time for distractions. Especially rumors about the murder of a local school librarian . . .

But when Jane’s fingerprints match those found at the grisly crime scene, Cora not only worries about her friend, but her own reputation. With angry townsfolk eager for justice and both Jane’s innocence and the retreat at risk, she must rely on her creative chops to unlace the truth behind the beloved librarian’s disturbing demise. Because if the killer’s patterns aren’t pinned, Cora’s handiwork could end up in stitches . . .

Advance Praise

“Personable main characters and a setting that crafting readers will envy are some highlights of this cozy mystery. The details of the unusually gruesome murder case are revealed in layers, much like the backstories of the characters (both main and supporting). The author more than aptly sets the foundation for several continuing plots, not the least of which are the varying romantic possibilities for both Cora and Jane.”– RT Book Reviews, 4 Stars

This is an entertaining, enjoyable mystery but it also deals with an important social issue - domestic violence. Cora worked as a counselor in a shelter for victims of domestic violence which is where she connected with her childhood friend Jane, who came to the shelter as a victim. Working at the shelter was so hard on Cora that she began to suffer from panic attacks and, at her doctor's urging, left that job and, with Jane, who was a potter, moved to a small Carolina town to open a crafts retreat. Cora and Jane are about to open their new business when the librarian at Jane's daughter's school is murdered and Jane is named in the local paper as a suspect and it becomes known that she has a police record for attempting to shoot her abusive ex-husband. Cora becomes concerned not only that Jane will be unjustly convicted of the crime but also that the business she has invested her entire saving in will fail because the local citizens begin to cancel their reservations for her crafts classes, so she gets involved in investigating what really happened.
This book has compelling characters, an interesting crafts based theme and an intriguing plot. I highly recommend it.

I always enjoy a craft themed cozy mystery and this first in a new series, Death Among the Doilies by Mollie Cox Bryan is a sure fire hit! Indigo Gap, North Carolina, is the setting for this new series. Cora Chevalier is opening a craft retreat center where an artist of any type can settle in and work their magic. Joining Cora on this new adventure is her friend Jane, and Jane's young daughter, London.

When rumors of a murder hit close to home, Cora fears her friend Jane will be accused of the deed. Cora believes in Jane's innocence, but is Cora wrong?

Tune in August 30th to find out what happens in this fantastic new series.

I look forward to reading more in this series.
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my fair and honest review.

I loved this crafty cozy from the start. Cora a former counselor in a woman's shelter, retired because of PTSD and Jane a childhood friend and former client start a craft retreat in Indigo Gap.
When the school librarian is murdered and Jane becomes a 'person of interest' due to her arrest for self defense in her past, Cora wants to find out who-dun-it. But when the woman's ex is murdered and the town is looking at Jane again, she becomes more determined, and follows up on any abnormality she finds. There are multiple suspects for the girls to check on, because there is more than a bit of odd behavior going on in town and at their retreat.
I thoroughly enjoyed the ARC copy I received free and will follow the series.

Great start to a new crafting cozy mystery series.

Cora is a counselor at an abused women's shelter. When her childhood best friend shows up at the shelter with her five year old daughter and when Cora's anxiety attacks overwhelm her, Jane and Cora join forces to open a crafting seminar workshop.

As the plans for the first week long workshop draw near, Jane becomes a person of interest in the murder of the town librarian.

The author has mixed in quite a few characters, so the story starts rather slowly. I like the characters, the location is great, the mystery finally crafted and mysterious, and the cops aren't idiots (always a plus).

Very enjoyable book, I look forward to more in the series.

Instructions for the craft projects are included in the back of the book.

This book was given to me through NetGalley in return for an honest review.

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I thoroughly enjoyed this first in a series. The story was well written, characters well-developed, and not your average cozy. Even though I thought I had figured out who did it, I was surprised by the outcome - all the interwoven subplots.
I enjoyed Ms Bryan's tie into her Cumberland Creek series. If you haven't read them, you will not notice the tie in.
Can't wait for the next book in this series.
