This was a beautifully told love story. Starr Reynolds was the daughter of a famous ship's captain who died at sea. After his death, Starr's mother did what she had to do to provide for herself and for her daughter, Starr. Unfortunately, she died when Starr was very young, at the hands of a man who then took Starr to work in his coal mines in England. It was in those mines that she made a good friend, Darcy. Darcy was able to escape the coal mines and travel to America. After some time, he provided a ticket for Starr's passage to America to join him. While on her trip, she met Captain Barret Madison, captain of the ship she was traveling on. When he realized who her father had been, he took her out of steerage and allowed her to stay in his cabin in more comfortable accommodations.
This story was quite a saga with many people involved and it was not until the end where the connections to all these different people was made. It was a beautiful love story, though, one I enjoyed very much. It proved, once again, that love can conquer all. This story was well developed and the characters were complex. Writing a story with this much depth isn't easy to, especially to do it well, but I felt that this author did a good job and I enjoyed the read very much.
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
