What a fun new cozy mystery series! Loved the characters and the pragmatic nature of the 'fish out of water' characters and scenario, especially as they dealt with one strange situation after another. Can't wait to read more!
This was my first Molly MacRae book, and I was entranced with her writing. I loved the cast of characters and the setting. The mystery was expertly woven and kept me guessing until the end. I hope we get to visit Inversgail many times in the future. I'd give it more than 5 stars if I could!
This is a delightful mystery story featuring two smart, mature women, which made it a pleasure for me to read. Janet and Christine, after divorce and widowhood, have left their lives in the U.S. and embarked upon new careers as the owners of Yon Bonnie Books in Inversgail, Scotland. They have brought along with them daughter Tallie and her friend Summer as partners. Janet has received a vacation house there as part of her divorce settlement, which has been rented out. When she goes to claim possession she finds her realtor Jessie cleaning up tons of garbage which has been dumped in her kitchen. Jessie claims the vandalism was done by Una Graham, the local newspaper columnist. When the women go back to check on the house a second time they find Una's body and, become involved in investigating the crime. This book has strong female characters, a fun, fast moving plot and, best of all, a strong sense of place. It will make you want to pack your bags for a trip to Scotland to discover it for yourself. I am delighted that his is the beginning of a new mystery series and I eagerly look forward to book 2.
