Description
Rock star, Malcolm Angel, tortured by a dark past, may be the poet laureate of romance, but he, like science-minded Summer, has never believed in romantic love. How could he? With his history, he doesn't deserve to be loved.
When Summer's honesty, kindness, and exuberance for life changes his perspective, the two discover they are in deeper than either dreamed possible. But when Malcolm discovers Summer's been perpetuating a lie, will he forgive her? Even if forgiveness is possible, can a man immune to love teach someone else to believe in it?

I have really opposing feelings about this one. On the one hand, Summer and Malcom's story is full of emotion and sensuality. I enjoyed the build up and the fact that it wasn't a typical instalove rock star book. However, I found that the characters often behaved or spoke in a way more suited for a NA novel than one about people in their late 20's and 30's. This often pulled me out of the story. I was able to get back in fairly easily and actually shed some tears throughout. Overall, it was a very enjoyable read.
What a fun read! The characters were so good in this book, they were complicated and yet fun. So many good things about this book, the complex past of Malcom, the current situation Summer is in, and if they will have a future together. The cow delivery was such a turning point in the book, it was crazy how everything happen, and then to have a huge rock star and band mates help deliver twin calves in the middle of a field off the freeway. That was wild. I do wish he would have made some type of effort to contact her over the weeks away from each other. The ending was so GOOD!!! I had a few tears because I was so happy for Summer and Malcom to finally be together! It was a sweet way to end the story.
This book would make the perfect romance movie. Malcolm the sexy one night stand rock star with demons that haunt him daily and Summer the innocent vet that doesn't believe in love but want to experience making love with a real man. Their story took me thru a range of emotions. II was - laughing, crying, cheering, then smiling at the end when they found their HEA. One of my favorite books this year.

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
Genre: Romance,
I’m a sucker for the rock star romance trope so requested this. It was a light and fun read but....
I missed the intensity I expect in this trope, the jealousy, the groupies, the drugsnsexnrocknroll media sh it storm that almost always finds its way into this trope, and that make it such a great read for me.
I’ve just finished rereading the wonderful Paige Toon duology Johnny be good/baby be mine and that's exactly what I look for in this kind of story. Passion, drama, heartbreak – all that stuff.
Here though everyone was just so nice,so kind and helpful.Throw in that the plot just didn’t really cut it for me, Summer pretending to be a model to attract Malcolm just felt too forced, Malcolm as a top of the tree rock star just donned a hat and glasses to go out unhindered, him spotting Summer in a crowd of thousands that first night, even if she was with someone he knew and in the front row, it all was just too easy, too smooth, too simplistic.
Then also I didn’t see why she kept her career a secret, why she was so afraid to tell him. The stuff Malcolm is hiding behind – well, that was a tough one, and I understood well why he had been quiet about it for so long, but it still was a bit small to be a major drama, though it could have been if more emphasis had been put on it. Winston – he is a star and I loved him ;-) .
They’re just two such sweet, kind, thoughtful people that it all felt a little sickly for me. Its a good read, well written but I did need more friction and angst to rate it higher.
Thats just a personal thing though – we all want different types of stories, and this kind of read resonates and is perfect for many readers.
I can’t close without saying that Name is Awful. I hate twee names and Summer Wynters is horrible – it does provide a bit of extra text when they refer to it and her parents but I really don’t think it was worth the nausea inducing feelings I got each time I read it ;-)
I read another recently where the main lead was Autumn Rayne – no- as with Wynters, putting the Y in doesn’t make it OK.
I’ve never read the much heralded Black dagger brotherhood saga, though I love vampire romances, as I just can’t get past the cringe worthy names, Rhage, Zsadist, Vishous. Each time I think I’ll give them a try I think of those names and just can’t bring myself to read them!
Stars: Three, a bit too sweet for me but perfect for others.

I absolutely Loved this Rock Star Romance!! It was not your typical bad boy rocker..good girl....hookup....that's what it seems......???? But it is SO MUCH MORE! This book was so well written, with a strong storyline, and character development, that had you sucked in from the first paged ,and not wanting it to end. It was sweet,steamy,funny..and tissue worthy. Its a definite re read for me! I don't give storyline synopsis in my reviews because you need to read the book for yourself!!!( you have the description) now run!! Go read it!!!
* thank you Netgalley for providing me a advanced copy for an honest review..
This was really interesting. I actually didn't expect this book to be so New Adult but it was really well done and I connected to the characters. I recommend it for a quick, getaway read.
Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy The Summer of Irreverence: The Rock Star as much as I would have liked. At first, it seemed promising, but after a while I felt more and more disinterested in the story and its characters.
I'm not sure if the MC's original idea was the best, but soon after she meets Malcolm, they get into a relationship. I'm not sure how to explain this, but as the romance developed, I started to become more disengaged in it. I cared for the characters, but there perhaps wasn't enough depth (even though it got really emotional at one point) and I didn't like the romance enough. I felt some things were repetitive and a bit predictable. As well, the writing could have been better. It felt a little too simplistic and at times, not polished enough. I also didn't exactly buy how the MC pretended to be a model and Malcolm just went along with everything in the first place.
I think this was a case where I was expecting too much and I just didn't click with the book. However, I can see that other readers would find this much to their taste, so if you like romance and a predictable, trope-filled plot line (sometimes, that's all you need) feel free to try this one. It's not the best though, and if you're looking for something more than average, skip it.
I really enjoyed this story. From the moment Malcolm was introduced, I was drawn to his character. I actually related to his character a little more than I did with Summer.
Both characters have layers of complexity and their relationships with others reveal their strengths and vulnerabilities. I like that, while Malcolm exhibited a lot of stereotypical “rock star” behaviors, it wasn’t who he really was inside. And that his behavior was more a form of self-punishment than hedonistic desires.
Summer’s motivations were a little harder for me to relate to, though I liked her character as a whole. Her relationship with Jeannette was a little stiff for me at first, but I think that was necessary for the evolution in both of their characters. I really liked Jeanette at the beginning and end of the story, but was not sure about her in the middle.
I love the addition of Winston to create a bond between Malcolm and Summer separate from their attraction to each other. I also enjoyed Jimmy’s presence in the story. Strangely, I would have liked to see Elijah have more of a presence as well. He was discussed several times, but never actually made an appearance, and while this may have been a way to make a point about his character, I would still have liked to see interactions between him and Jeanette and especially between him and Malcolm.
This story was beautifully written with engaging characters and a fun plot. I look forward to reading more from Catherine Goldstein.
I didn't love it that the "big secret" that she was keeping was that she was super-intelligent and had a promising career. That doesn't seem like anything that you would need to hide or something that a rock star would get upset about finding out. I generally liked the rest, but I couldn't get past the conflict here.
Summer is a young woman, who has always lived by the rules and still found heartache and loss, With a summer before she begins work as a veterinarian for her former boyfriend and now boss, she declares it a summer of irreverence and decides to have a fling with the hottest bad boy rocker Malcolm Angel.
Malcolm is taken with the sweet Summer, who is different from any other model that he is met and quickly begins to develop real feelings and a relationship with her in which he shares some true secrets from his past. The reveal is so heartwarming, tender, and extremely well-written. It certainly elevates Malcolm's status as a romantic hero.
Circumstances force Summer to reveal her identity as a vet before she can explain causing a rift in the relationship. One of the true heroes of the story, Malcolm's dog Winston, steals the story and readers' hearts as he helps them mend their relationship.
While Malcolm's reaction and behavior towards Summer after learning she is a vet seems over the top and out of the characterization that has been developed, the story is so touchingly tender and loving that it became unimportant to me. The ending was quite romantic and tied up any loose ends. Although there are many rock musician romances, Summer of Irreverence is one of the best!
I'm a big fan of the rock star falls in love with an ordinary girl trope; it's one of the ultimate fantasies. So when I read the blurb for this book, I was sold. And this book was good, but it wasn't great.
The first problem for me was the lack of supporting characters. The only person we got to know at all was Jeanette, who I found completely unlikeable. I wanted Summer to have a friend who supported her, and I wanted to know more about Malcolm's bandmates. I think the author really missed the mark here.
I also found that the story jumped a lot, and we didn't really SEE Summer and Malcolm's relationship. Because of that, I found their relationship completely unbelievable. I didn't actually buy the romance here. And that totally took away from the fantasy for me.
This book has enough potential that I'm sure it will work for some readers. Unfortunately, I'm not one of them.
So, Summer of Irreverence: The Rock Star–Wow!!!!

Ha! Did I get you?
Seriously, though, if you’ve followed me at all, you know I LOVE music. If there is a music subgenre under romance, I’m all over the subgenre. I have read a lot and I will continue to read a lot. It’s my favorite. For that reason, I’ve added another category called “music novel” to my categories. Summer of Irreverence: The Rock Star is the first book I will review for this new category, but by no means will it be the last. If you’re like me and love your romances with a healthy dose of music, you can check out the category to see if you’ve missed anything. Hopefully I’ll add a lot more to it soon.
But let’s get back to Summer of Irreverence: The Rock Star.
Summer is visiting her best friend Jeannette in New York City for the summer before starting her job as a veterinary surgeon working for her ex-boyfriend, Brad. But, this summer she wants to cut loose, make it her summer of irreverence. She wants to have an unforgettable one-night-stand with Malcolm Angel, the rock star.
Malcolm doesn’t attach his emotions to anything or anyone other than his ancient golden labrador, Winston. When he sees the blonde woman, Summer, in the front row of his concert he recognizes how different she is from all of the other women.
Both Summer and Malcolm have secrets, but Malcolm lets Summer in on his while she keeps hers. It’s her secret that inevitably pulls them apart.
In some ways this book is fairly predictable, but, really, it’s a romance, so some things are already a foregone conclusion. However, and this is a big however, there is just so much to like about this book. It’s extremely well-written and the chemistry between Summer and Malcolm is off-the-charts. There is passion and feeling galore. But Cathrine Goldstein doesn’t dump it on you at the beginning, she lets the emotions simmer between Summer and Malcolm so that when they finally come together, it’s like: Yes!!! (fist pump).
And, there’s Winston the ancient golden labrador. (Rock stars and dogs? You’ve got me!)
As a heroine, Summer is perfect. She’s smart, self-deprecating, and says what she thinks. Malcolm is almost as good as the hero, the tortured artist emotionally immobilized by a mistake he can never correct.
Lastly, Summer of Irreverence: The Rock Star is sad, sweet, funny, sensual, and pretty smart. A perfect late summer read!
This is the first book in Goldstein’s NY Artists series and I can’t wait to see what she gives us next.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and The Wild Rose Press in exchange for an honest review
Oh, how I enjoyed this book! I love rock star romances, and this was a good one! Malcolm Angel and Summer Wynters were great characters, and theirs was a touching romance. The storyline was captivating and I will be looking for more by this author.
Malcolm Angel is a famous rock star who believes nothing about love. Malcolm has a different woman every night until he met Summer. Summer is a veterinary surgeon who also doesn’t believe in love. Before Summer works on her dream career as a veterinary surgeon Summer wants a summer of just fun. Summer’s parents had died when she was sixteen. Summer had one act of rebellion that played a part in her parents death. Summer had a chance to be with Mr. Perfect- Brad but he doesn’t excite her in the bedroom. Every else Brad is controlling. Summer.s best friends husband manages Malcolm band and Summer meets Malcolm and Summer goes to his room. Malcolm had a dog who was getting on in years but he loved the dog. Summer thinks for herself and stands up for herself and others when it is against her beliefs or common decency. He sees beyond who Summer is pretending to be.
I really like this book. It was a fun and easy read. It had my attention all the way through this book. I feel Winston definitely added to the story. This was well written with a good plot. This story made me chuckle at times and choked me up at times It had a good ending. I loved how Summer helped Malcolm believe he does deserve love. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I recommend.
I loved this book...it was such a different take on a normal rock star love story. Both the main characters i feel in love with and the main twist was heart breaking but so believable. It was so refreshing to read a rock star romance where the rock star grew up....it was like a coming of age story for us older readers....total love.
Would highly recommend.
I love love loved this book! Great summer read!
Summer and Malcolm have a story like no other! I loved the unexpected slow burn romance that they have and despite their pasts and the trials that their relationship went through they all got their happy ever after ending.
Good day! Before anything else, I would like to extend my deepest, sincerest gratitude for sending me a digital review copy of this book (via NetGalley). Thank you very much for the opportunity!
Unfortunately, I am sad to say that I have lost interest in this particular title, and consequently, I have decided against finishing it. Forcing myself to finish a book I am disinterested in (solely for the sake of finishing it) can only negatively impact the entirety of my reading experience, which, in turn, could result in me writing an unfairly negative review. That is a circumstance I hope to avoid. With that said, I believe that the best course of action is for me to simply not read it and to refrain from publicly posting any feedback regarding this book.
I hope you understand where I'm coming from. Again, thank you for the lovely opportunity!
