I absolutely LOVE Heart and Brain, it is one of my favourite comics. There is always something relevant in these pages, whatever the situation you're going through and The Awkward Yeti can help you see the humour in life. I think everyone can relate to either Heart or Brain, or maybe see a little of both in themselves.

Heart and Brain: Gut Instincts is a little like Pixar's Inside Out, but with organs instead of emotions! The organs belong to Awkward Yeti and most of the dialogue happens between Heart and Brain. Heart has an enthusiasm for life and rational Brain is constantly trying to moderate Heart's fanciful ideas. Occasionally other organs--mostly those in the digestive system--get involved. This comic strip is extremely relatable. It illustrates all the funny things humans do and the ways we rationalize them. I could definitely relate to Eyes and Tongue ignoring Stomach's wishes and forcing food down anyway. One of my favorite parts was when Heart, Intestines, Eyes, and Stomach "helped" Brain with his anxiety!

Heart and Brain: Gut Instincts features over 60 brand-new, never-before-seen comics. I had never seen this comic strip, so it was all new to me! You can see some of the strips featuring Heart and Brain at TheAwkwardYeti.com.

I love Heart and Brains interactions. Some of them describe my personality spot on. I cannot count the number of times I was reading this and laughed out loud and had someone look at me funny. Such a talented writer/artist. Fully enjoy the web comic and the book with more of the comics is just amazing. Love Love Love it!

From time to time I have stumbled upon cartoon panels done by the Awkward Yeti as I scroll through my Facebook feed. Usually they make me giggle. I really like the concept of separating out your organs and pitting their different personalities against one another. Even scarier is when they join forces and team up against you! At the heart of the story - pun intended - is the heart versus brain shtick. Although a little repetitive in this book, it makes for some good, clean, funny fodder. I'm a fan!

A new Heart and Brain book from The Awkward Yeti. A famous web-comic, I loved the previous collection of Heart and Brain strips, and this is another collection of the same kind of stuff. It's hilarious, relatable and one of those humour comic collections that you can pass around the room and watch as people giggle at the human experiences that they know all too well. It's nicely drawn and well written and this is perfect for anyone who liked the first collection.

I LOVE IT! Those comics strips are absolutely amazing. I was amazed how well Heart and Brain can show the complicated way we think and act. Those two main characters of the strips can teach us a lot. Each strip was giving me something to think about, little pieces of life truths delivered in a witty fashion. Adorable and perfect.

Heart and Brain: Gut Instincts by Nick Seluk is a cartoon book of organ characters depicting thoughts and feelings, in humorous ways, of life and love. It is very clever and silly and often true. The art is adorable and fun. Most of the cartoons are very relatable to life and many I could smile or giggle at, some weren't so much. Overall it was a good book. I received this book from NetGalley for a honest review.

I love the awkward yeti so much. Seluk's characterization of internal organs is highly funny and very heartwarming. While I had already seen several of these comics via his facebook page, binging on Heart and Brain is never a hardship and always makes me smile.

Heart and Brain: Gut Instincts is another Awkward Yeti collection which includes over 60 new comics. If you're a fan, you'll be pleased and if you're not a fan, well, why not?

There isn't really anything to dislike here and a lot to like. The discussions between the organs, mostly heart and brain, will sound familiar to many of us because they reflect how we approach everyday life both physically (anxiety eating) and psychologically (rationalizing almost anything). In fact, the Awkward Yeti illustrates beautifully how there is no sharp delineation between our psychological/emotional responses and our physical/health responses to life.

I would recommend this to everyone. What? Too broad? Okay, if you are honest enough with yourself to acknowledge your own inconsistencies and can laugh about them, then I would recommend this for you.

There's been a part of my brain (HA, or is it heart? - didn't actually start that way intentionally, but hey, it works) lately that really wants to exclusively read comics and graphic novels and graphic memoirs. I mean, it's never going to happen, not exclusively anyway, due to all the promising novels burying me, but The Awkward Yeti's new collection is a welcome respite from life lately.

I only discovered Seluk's work a few months back, and am enthralled. The basic set-up is that Heart and Brain are companions - playing together, almost always in conflict, figuring out life. Other organs come and go in the panels, but Heart and Brain are the stars.

(a few panels included)

It's encouraging to know that other Hearts and Brains can be as crazy as one's own. Encouraging... or frightening? Not sure. But I love following the life of The Awkward Yeti and his organs - it's always insightful and inspiring (and damn true, pretty much every single time).

Heart and Brain: Gut Instincts will be published by Andrews McMeel Publishing on October 18 (and they were kind enough to provide my advanced copy).

A brain and a heart—hopefully from the same body—argue about almost everything, but at least make you laugh in the process. Other body parts chime in once in a while too.
Some highlights: Never trust lettuce! Hot dog vendors are heroes! Never hug a cactus! Never send the heart grocery shopping! There’s also explanations about how earworm works and why teeth grind. Boots don’t have wifi, silly, they have Bluetooth. There’s even a drawing of a butterfly with headphones, which for some reason I found both disturbing and hilarious.
I love how Brain gives in at times and actually enjoys it, even if he never admits it. On the other hand, Heart sometimes uncorks a creepy smile, especially when he literally crashes a computer.
My fave line was either “Tetris Rip-off!” or “I am the night. . .”

Another funny collection of cartoons from the Awkward Yeti. This one focuses on the relationship between the heart and the brain with a few other body parts thrown in for fun (I'm partial to the sweet tooth). In this duo, the brain acts as the straight man and the heart is comic relief. But in the end, they make a good pair and things usually work out for the best.

I received this as an ARC in return for an honest review.

This is a short little book that can easily be knocked out in an afternoon. I am a huge fan of the Heart and Brain Awkward Yeti comic series, so I knew going in that I would enjoy this. While a lot of these comics have already been shown on The Awkward Yeti's Facebook feed, it's fun to revisit old favorites as well as laugh at the new adventures of our favorite organ duo - which leads us to my one complaint of the collection: the other organs are not really featured much despite the title being Gut Instinct. All in all, it's a cute quick read that is sure to delight fans of The Awkward Yeti.

Would I recommend: Without a doubt!

As a huge fan of The Awkward Yeti, I greatly enjoyed this book. It has adorable chemistry between mini arcs (going on an adventure, losing weight, etc.) and loved seeing the new comics interspersed with the old favorites of Gall Bladder, Tongue, and other characters. This book is primarily centered on Heart and Brain with guest appearances by Derpy Tooth and other favorites, and is adorable through and through. I do wish there were a few more comics about other organs, but as a whole, this book is short, funny, and awesome if you're a fan of The Awkward Yeti or a person who loves anatomy and science in a funny twist!

A second very competent collection of wise and wacky cartoons with the Numskulls-type body parts of the title, now joined by several other characters. I didn't take to them all particularly immediately, but I soon found the connection with them (well, I do own most, for one thing) and the book was just as good as the first. Whether cheapo, quickie splash image or week-long spreads of connected daily strips, this book knocks a lot of similar cartoon collections into the dust, with its comedy and what it has to say about the balance we all should seek, as our impetuosity hits the brick wall of both reason and human failings. There's still a lot of heart, and a lot of brain, on these pages.

Heart and Brain are back, with a host of other characters. They tackle the inner workings of the human body and the mysteries of the universe in a very relatable way. Loved it!

I received an e-ARC of this comic from the publisher via NetGalley , in exchange with an honest review.

Nick Seluk will capture your attention, mock your guilty pleasures, and make you L.O.L !

If you have ever heard Selena Gomez's " The Heart Wants What it Wants", then you know who usually wins the battle of "Taking the best, practical decision VS taking the most fun one." This comic will perfectly show you that this isn't an equation that can be balanced. The right action to take can not be presented as a monopoly ; it basically differs from one scenario, to another. Think of it like a seesaw . We get to see this in how Brain and Heart discuss matters. Mostly, they disagree and see things differently ; but sometime, they get to learn from each other.

In this second issue, we get to see how the Gut reacts to every day activities that we usually engage in. In my opinion, it is a smart, entertaining representation of what happens inside the body. I believe this could be a very beneficial way to educate people, both young and old. Visual stimulation is, in my opinion, the best way to learn .

I absolutely loved this comic. It made laugh at this generation's social norms, experience life from the point of view of different organs, and fall in love with biology again.

I can't wait to read the next issue. Listen to your Gut Instincts & pre-order your copy.

A great collection of Heart and Brain comics - although my favorites are Gallbladder and Liver - that is both funny and thoughtful about our expectations as adults in the world (but not in a heavy-handed way). Would definitely share, especially with someone coping with anxiety or feeling overwhelmed with the world.

I do have a very special affinity for the Heart and Brain series. Most of the ones I've seen, I've seen multiple times, especially the two most popular ones regarding books. I don't actively seek them out, so being able to read collections is perfect for me.

The collection, and the comics themselves, are so clever and well done. It's the perfect balance of smart humor and silly gags, the latter mostly involving the bowels and the stomach. Each organ has its personality, and even if you didn't really know what the organ did, you'd get the joke. From the angry morning-after liver to the poor little Gallbladder who just wants to make presents, there is so much to giggle about.

And the conversations between Heart and Brain about everything from anxiety to the events of the world. There's nothing heavy handed, but so much to smile and think about.

Just a fun comic, and a great collection.

Someone who has never read The Awkward Yeti comics online would absolutely love this book. As for me, I have been following Yeti and the adventures of heart, brain and other organs for a while. Though I have read most of the comics in the book, I still loved it. Would highly recommend it.

I absolutely love this comics, it's really funny and gives you also food for thoughts, and suggests some really good junk food for the tongue also ;) I read it on facebook also and I laugh every time.

THANKS TO NETGALLEY FOR THE PREVIEW!

Laugh out loud funny. The way all organs interacted was genius. Loved the constant conflict between the brain and the heart.

Who doesn't love The Awkward Yeti? These little bite-sized strips remind us that sometimes, we overthink things. Other times, we don't think enough. That balance between our hearts and minds is a topic always whimsically and amusingly covered in these little strips.

I have run into this comic quite a few times, people posting on Facebook and the like, and always found it amusing. Something about your organs being alive and having personalities all their own works for me, though I am sad that Gallbladder only hung around for a while because, spoilers, Gallbladders always leave.

It was an enjoyable read, full of thought inspiring humor, and a great reminder to listen to your heart once in a while.

I love the "body parts" characters created by Nick Seluk. Heart and Brain are, of course, the ultimate odd couple but both entirely lovable. Tongue is a favorite - a hedonist, control freak and bully. A perfect personality for the body part that most often gets me into trouble. While I love the current characters and situations, I'd like to see more of the Awkward Yeti himself in the comics. Looking forward to the next collection.

Awesome and hilarious as always; my favorite Awkward Yeti, Nick Seluk, has mad me giggle with glee! Warning! You should only read this book if you have a sense a humor and no preexisting medical conditions that preclude you from busting a gut. Otherwise, I highly recommend this book!

'Heart and Brain: Gut Instincts' by Nick Seluk is an Awkward Yeti collection. I love this comic strip for its humor and wise insight into how we humans work.

The comic strip is primarily Heart and Brain, but this time around they are joined by other members of the human body. We have tongue wanting to eat anything, while stomach complains about being full. Throughout, irritable bowels shows up to voice its complaint. Mainly, Heart wants what it wants now, and Brain wants to be productive and pragmatic.

This is a really funny and insightful collection. How many times have I wanted that bowl of ice cream only to have my stomach complain about it later, and the war between my own heart and brain is as real as it is portrayed here (although perhaps with less butterflies). This is a funny collection of over 60 comic strips.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.
