Description

"His career has been a long one," Arthur Conan Doyle notes of his immortal creation, Sherlock Holmes. Doyle made his observation in the 1920s, when the detective had already been thrilling readers for 40 years, and he modestly attributed his hero's success to "the patience and loyalty of the British public." Nearly a century later, the fictional sleuth continues to captivate imaginations around the world and to inspire modern-day reinterpretations.
By the twentieth century Doyle had moved on to other literary endeavors but the public demand for further adventures of the Baker Street sleuth proved irresistible. The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes is the last such work to be regarded as canon, a collection of stories written before other writers claimed the character and his associates as their own. Here are a dozen tales of passion, revenge, greed, and murder—the final adventures of the great detective, as recounted by the master storyteller himself.

Conan Doyle's Holmes stories scarcely need any comment from me. They remain classics in the best sense, in that they are readable, enjoyable, superbly written and still have life and freshness many years after they were first published. These aren't all among the greatest of the Holmes stories, but they are still a fine collection and I have thoroughly enjoyed reading them all again – and it's easy to see why they have inspired so many interpretations over the years.

I was kindly sent a free digital ARC of the Dover Edition via Netgalley for review, and it's a good, clean edition without flaws so if you're looking for a Kindle edition of some Sherlock Holmes to wallow in and enjoy, this will do very nicely.

This is a series of short stories by Arthur Conan Doyle that lack the fleshed out characters and plot intrigues of the larger, more well known stories, but if you're a Sherlock Holmes fan, every little bit can make your day.

4 and ½ stars

This is not the strongest collection of Sherlock Holmes stories, it is true, but it is still a very good read. A couple echo of other books Sir Arthur Conan Doyle has written. Whether these were written before or after the books, I do not know.

But by my judgment, anything written by Doyle is not to be missed.

Thanking Netgalley and Amazon Digital Services LLC for the opportunity to read these wonderful stories.

The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is a collection of twelve stories about the famous detective which are the last to ever be produced before the authors’ passing. Of course, most of you have probably heard of Sherlock Holmes as he’s a classic detective who uses his observational skills and common sense to solve mysteries.

I liked that this book was a compilation of the last stories Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote about Sherlock Holmes before his passing. I enjoyed watching Mr. Holmes arrive at conclusions and solve the cases. Mr. Watson is always a helpful character as Mr. Holmes would on occasion explain how he arrived at his conclusions to his trusted friend.

I think this is a great book of short stories if you want a bit of mystery to read quickly, say on a break at work, you can pick a story in this book and read it without having to read the entire book.

I acknowledge that I received this book from NetGalley and Dover Publications in exchange for my honest and unbiased review of the book.

Holmes became an iconic figure as the times past, thanks to the many cases where show his observación poder and use of lógica, but wasn't the 'super detective' that we imagine, was jusy someone very observant and smart and, thank to this book, we can confirmó that nature
