3.5 stars. This book and me connected on some level but for the most part it tried patience. Jennifer being the single middle age divorced lady taking on a guy like Troy should have and could have been a whirlwind romance. Instead it was a constant tug of war with each other. One not in same place as other then the other gets in that place and then drama. Troy seemed to be pushy and unaccommodating, pushing Jennifer to cancel her dream of California. I wanted these two together but then thought she deserved be treated better as well. No wonder she made the decision while away she did when he was all my way out no way.
The writing was almost like was reading a skimming version of a book and hurried.
I have never read a romance novel where I despised the hero as much as I disliked Troy in this novel.
I loved Jennifer as the heroine and thought that she was an admirable character, who rebuilt her life after her divorce as a no-nonsense entrepreneur. Her relationship with her son and the fact that her sister and mother relied on her (from thousands of miles away) to solve their problems and create stability established her as a worthy and strong heroine. So, why she continually put up with Troy's lies by omission, holier than thou attitude, and attempts to squash her dreams without so much as a discussion left me feeling frustrated and angered by the story.
Troy, at first, seemed like the dashing hero saving Jennifer's faltering business, but the more his character was revealed the less I liked it. He came across as bullish, demanding, and more concerned about his own ego than caring about Jennifer or her needs.
Because I was cheering for Jennifer to dump Troy, this novel was a fail for me.
