Description
One of the most individual appellations of the Languedoc, Faugères produces white and rosé wines but the appellation is most famous for its rich, ripe red wines made from the classic Rhone varieties Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre. Faugères white wine, which accounts for just 2% of the appellation, is a perfect example of the way the white wines of the Languedoc are developing and improving with every vintage, their wonderful herbal flavors conjuring up the scents of the herbs of the garrigue, fennel, bay and thyme. Pink Faugères, which accounts for 18% of the appellation, provides delicious drinking with acidity and delicate fruit. The wines of Faugères always have a distinctive freshness that places them among the finest of the Languedoc.
The wines of Faugères is a comprehensive guide to the wines of this remarkably compact and homogeneous area that covers just seven villages and a couple of hamlets. Rosemary George covers the history, geography and climate of the region, as well as its grape varieties and viticulture, before profiling the individual producers and their wines. It ends with an indispensable assessment of vintages going back to the creation of the appellation in 1982.
Rosemary George's previous book on this wine region, The Wines of the South of France, has been called "illuminating," "a great book and useful resource," and "recommended for all good wine collections."

An informative and detailed read, told in a very interesting manner, without being obnoxious or pretentious.
I enjoy wine, although I do not consider myself a wine snob by any means, I do feel I know much about the topic.
This was a very educational guide and I learned quite a bit.
I received this requested copy from NetGalley and read and reviewed it at my choosing. This would make a lovely gift this Christmas for someone.

An Informative Guide To A Little Known Region Producing French Wines
The Faugeres appellation refers to the wines produced by a collection of seven villages. I’m familiar with several of the wine growing regions in France, but I had not come across Faugeres. Apparently, many people in the United States are also unfamiliar with these wines. I selected this book because I wanted to learn more about this region.
I wasn’t disappointed. The book is beautifully written and very informative. Starting with a description of the region, it makes you feel that you are taking a trip through a beautiful and interesting area. In addition, the author describes the history of the region.
Each village is discussed not only from the scenery, but from the the wines that grow there and how they differ. It’s a very comprehensive treatment telling not only what wines are produced by each chateau, but also how the winemakers approached the task of making fine wines.
If you’re interested in wine, I highly recommend this book. It made me want to visit the region, walk the hills, and sample the wines.
I received this book from Net Galley for this review.
