I think this book has value to art students and established artists rather than novices. It was very interesting and quite quirky in places, but reading it in digital from did not do it any justice. I think it will be much easier to mull over when it is in hard copy. It encourages you to observe closely and does make you think. There is an added interest because you are looking through the eyes of history, a long time ago. I am sure I would rate it much higher if it were in hardcopy.
This book would be a great fit for advanced drawing students who are interested in "expert" work. Learn from seeing and tracing - copy the greats.
A good and interesting book on pen drawings. Good for the beginner or anyone interested in this art form.
Pen Drawing by Charles D. Maginnis sounded as though it would be quite interesting. Most of my drawing has been done in pencil and colored pencil. I've always been rather timid about using such a permanent media as ink. An eraser can't help you out there. The pen drawing of a horse and carriage on the book's cover is very nostalgic and engaging. However, the text was pretty much illegible in Adobe Digital Editions. I did enjoy the illustrations although some of them were unclear. The section on architectural drawings stood out to me. I really liked the windows. The book contains over 70 drawings to inspire.
