Description

She wants to save the Knights…
When Miranda Callahan’s father, principle owner and hands-on dictator of the Georgia Knights, has a heart attack, the responsibility to make the team an independent success becomes solely hers. Though everyone expects her to fail in her new role, Miranda is determined to take her team to the top and earn her father’s love and respect on the way. The only other obstacle is the League’s consultant – a secret crush from her past – the man trying to take over the team, and the one person who can save them all.
He wants revenge…
Lucas Wainright is a turnaround consultant, hired by the League to save the Knights and so many other teams – only this time it’s personal; before being ousted by Seamus Callahan, Lucas’ family had been the owners of the team. Now, he has the perfect opportunity to regain his rightful position with the Knights, if he’s willing to suppress his scruples and his attraction to Miranda Callahan.
Can Miranda and Lucas let go of old grudges and hold on to their new love?

I didn't know a darned thing about baseball when I started reading the Knights of Passion series and certainly don't profess to be an expert now, but that didn't stop me from enjoying Love From Left Field, which is the second in this three book series. It stands alone nicely, though having read book one, I felt a degree of familiarity with the characters. There were one or two things I struggled with a little, the first being Megan Ryder's tendency to tell me what characters feeling rather showing me through the use of the five senses. Secondly I didn't quite believe the way the plot resolved itself at the end. Minor details, however. For a light, fun read, this story works.

Miranda finally has control of her family’s baseball team, the Georgia Knights… at least, while her father recovers from a heart attack and longer if she has her way in the matter. She knows what needs to be done to make the team successful, it’s going to be painful and turn up some tempers but at the end of the day this team is going to the World Series. She has faith that can and will happen. Her father has run this team into the ground with debts and rules that make no sense. She needs to turn them around before there is no team to turn at all. She should be glad that there is a consultant coming in to help with this task – and she would be if there wasn’t an ugly history with this man’s family. Friend or enemy. Only time will tell.

Lucas is the supreme loner. It’s his job, he never knows where he’s going to be or for how long. It’s his personality, learned from hard lessons from the past. And now he’s heading to Georgia and the Knights. Who would have figured it would come full circle like this. He had the chance to exact the perfect revenge against the man who he firmly believed stole this team from his family years ago. He could do it, it would be so easy. But then there’s Miranda, the girl he’d once had a crush on had grown into a strong, beautiful woman. A determined woman with the intent to take the reins of this team and make them champions. Now he has to figure out what’s more important to him – a long held resentment and the chance for revenge or the woman he’s come to love and admire. You’d think it would be an easy answer.

I enjoyed Love From Left Field so much. Miranda had so much crap she had to get through, her relationship with her father being right up there toward the top of the list. She has the self confidence to know that she can get this job done and do it well. Sure there are moments, but everyone has those times. She’s uncertain if she can trust Lucas, knowing some of the history between their families. But she really has no choice but to run with what she feels is the right things to do.

Lucas and Miranda have some amazing chemistry between them, and watching them navigate through this minefield was entertaining. It’s hard to not root for this couple’s happiness and for Lucas to make the right choice.

If you love a romance that is full of potholes, past histories and two people who are trying to do the right thing right now… then this is a story you’ll enjoy. You don’t have to love baseball to love this story… but it might help. *grin*
