Thank you to Netgalley and Simon & Schuster for allowing me to read this book.
The Wife App provided such an intresting commentary on the soceital role's of wives through three seperate charcters. The three main characters were all once wives and are mothers. Readers see the story unfold through their perspectives. Each of their perspectives are unqiue and provide context for how they interact with everyone. I highly recommend checking out The Wife App.
The Wife App by Carolyn Mackler is a book I really wanted to enjoy, it had such promise from reading the description and a catchy cover. In reality, I found the story slow to get ramped up, it wasn't until around halfway through that I started to sort of look forward to continuing. Most of the problem for me is that I had a difficult time caring about any of the three main characters, I found them to be quite unlikable. I finished the book and don't regret reading it, but it isn't one I'll be thinking about beyond this review. 2.5 stars rounded up to 3.
3 POVs, I was invested in all three of their stories. The writing made it easy to keep the storylines straight in my mind. The characters were well developed and the plot felt original.
This book was a fun and easy read. The author did a great job of telling the story of friends and divorce. She proved the wife app would really work for even Moms. The app did jobs that sometimes we run out of time to complete. I loved all the characters and how you felt connected to them as your were reading. Each lady had her own set of problems but they came together to create the wife app. A very fun read that could lead to lots of discussion for a book club.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and Simon and Schuster for the gifted e-book! ❤️ #gifted. My review is comprised of my honest thoughts.
Read this book if you like: Multiple POV, LGBTQ representation, light reads
This was very unique. I loved the concept. I wanted more from the conclusion. It felt a bit rushed. Regardless, I loved the characters. I laughed, I swooned. I highly recommend it!
This book was such a fun read. I could relate to it on a number of different levels. It is definitely a book I will recommend to others!
I loved the concept of The Wife App, and I think it captures the many responsibilities of a wife/mom/woman later in life! Creating the app was a fun & smart idea and I enjoyed how everything played out!
This book had such a good premise! The beginning was a little slow but I thought it was great execution
I really enjoyed this book! I found it to be very interesting and a unique idea, and the pace of the story was perfect. I liked the characters and I enjoyed hearing about their friendship. I think that perhaps a bit more character development could've been done, but the story itself was enjoyable. Thank you to Simon & Schuster and NetGalley for this ARC.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to receive this book for an honest review.
I had such high hopes for this book because of the other reviews.
I sadly say it did not keep me interested enough to finish.
I found the characters hard to relate too.
Please don't go by just my opinion, you can give it a try for yourself.
I went into this book totally blind and I was pleasantly surprised by how seen I felt by this book. The Wife App is the story of three friends who created an app to help women (and men) take away the burden of the mental load that comes with having a family, a job and just life in general. I’ve been a wife and a mom for over a decade and I can tell you there are some days that are harder than others and any little bit of help helps tremendously.
I empathized with each of our three MCs and the various stages and struggles they were going through. While the app idea started as a joke it turned into a reality and it gave each of them something they didn’t know they truly needed. Whether it was financial security, a new purpose or reclaiming a part of themselves it opened the door to a new future.
I think this is definitely a fun read for anyone who’s married (or been married) or a parent or just someone bogged down by the mental load.
Thank you @simonbooks and @netgalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest feedback.
I was originally granted a pre-released copy of this book from net gallery. At the time other things were going on and I wasn't able to finish the book in time, but I wanted to uphold the commitment. I had to write a review so later on I purchased my own audio copy of this book. All opinions are right. Here are my own. I'm incredibly happy with this book. It's a very fast read. I was able to listen to it just a few days. I almost couldn't put it down. It was funny and engaging and relevant to our times. I felt like the characters became my friends. I I became invested in their lives, the lives in their spouses and kids as well,. Not to mention their adventure with this entrepreneurial app that they were putting together as friends. The wife app on the whole has a wonderful. Sex in the City flavor to it without being pretentious or copying the show in any way. I really didn't want the book to end and I hope that the author takes some time to maybe expand on the story in future books. I also loved how social media was Andrew woven throughout this book.. also making note of our love of convenience how that might not be accessible to everyone. But how there is in this modern age, an opportunity to use that to one's advantage if you want to. Thank you so much to the author for writing this very relevant but also so nourishing body of work for us to enjoy. I thoroughly did.
Hard to put down and I just loved the characters! Sophie, Lauren and Madeline are in various stages of divorce from their husbands. Madeline, mother to 14 year old Arabella hasn’t been with her husband most of her daughter’s life. Sophie’s ex has family 2.0, complete with beautiful social media posts that make Sophie cringe-worthy jealous. And Lauren has just finalized her divorce with her husband of more than a decade after discovering a marriage-shattering secret. These women get together for dinner and rant about all of the work they did in their marriage only to have it all implode - they should have been paid for all they did! And thus, the Wife App is born! Take care of the mental load - all those little things they do - paperwork for child care and doctors, organizing vacations, picking up the dry cleaning - why shouldn’t they make money for doing so much labor?
A savvy and fun read!
This was a fun, fresh book that I really enjoyed! It brings to light the value of all those tasks a wife thanklessly performs. I always thought I’d all the things I do were monitored I would be a millionaire!
Interesting read about the mental load of a wife/woman. It starts out with 3 divorced friends who create an app where couples and everyone can outsource wifely duties.
"The Wife App" by Carolyn Mackler boasts an interesting, fun premise that kept me engaged from start to finish. Mackler delves deep into the ways women are overworked, underpaid, and woefully underappreciated by everybody in their lives. Three friends from a variety of different backgrounds come up with The Wife App, where people can get paid for jobs that are typically deemed tasks that a wife to do. I think this story has a biting, necessary commentary on how women take up the emotional and mental labor in many family/relationship dynamics. The dialogue is witty, and there is a lot of good banter here. I couldn't connect with a couple of the storylines, but this book was mostly a success for me. There is no real revenge, and there are no real consequences, as promised, but if you ignore that, I think you will find something to appreciate or like about this book. I do think that it goes on a little too long, but overall, I enjoyed it.
Just okay. The concept is fun, but this book was hard for me to get through. While I appreciate reading about the different struggles that folks can have with mental load and changing relationships, I've had a more enjoyable experience reading about these concepts in non-fiction books. The characters were okay, but I didn't feel invested enough in their stories to find them really compelling. I think people who are at a different point in their lives would enjoy 'The Wife App' more than I did.
4.5 This was such a great women lit book that left me feeling inspired. This book follows three women who are all friends divorced with children. After discussing about how being a wife is hard work and it’s not fair that women aren’t compensated for it Lauren a tech savvy app developer decides to design an app around the friends ideas. This app allows anyone to hire a wife to take care of task that you don’t want to take care of or just don’t have the time. We follow the three women throughout the process of creating the app being blown up by an influencer and trying to get investors all while we get glimpses into the ladies life’s.
This book I could not put down I loved the characters and felt they were relatable and real. I will say some of the romances in this story felt a little unnecessary but I still loved finding out about the relationships but wish there was a little more time spent developing those relationships. That being said I absolutely loved this book and really want to read more from this author in the future. I would like to thank Netgalley and the publishers for a chance to read this book for an honest review.
Lauren, mother of twins and recently divorced has a sudden realization at dinner with her two best friends Madeline and Sophie. All three of them are mothers, recently divorced and having to do everything for their households. Lauren decides to put together an app for busy families where they can hire someone to do the mundane tasks.
I enjoyed the viewpoints from each woman and what was going on with their life. Also, each of them went through their own discovery of themselves.
Thank you #NetGalley for the advance read!
Thanks to @netgalley for the arc! This book was a solid 3.5 read. It was funny, smart and interesting. I really loved the main characters. The book had way more heart than I expected. If you’re a fan of Kelly Harms or Abbi Waxman, you will enjoy this book!
