A very sweet, mid-mild spice, romance novel. If you enjoy very cheesy romance stories, you will like this one. There are great underlying lessons and conversation about hard topics; family, friendship, identity, substance use. The story arc makes sense and the world is well built. Giving it three stars because it's good for what it is, but what it is is not a very high-calibre book. It just felt like everything was trying very hard to be pleasable to the general masses, walking within some set arbitrary lines. It was easy.
REVIEW: Plot Twist
Erin La Rosa's "Plot Twist" is a delightful and engaging contemporary romance that follows Sophie, a screenwriter tasked with revisiting her past relationships for a new project. The clever premise sets the stage for many humorous and heartwarming moments. La Rosa's writing is sharp and witty, and the dialogue sparkles, making it a quick and enjoyable read.
The characters are well-developed and relatable, particularly Sophie, whose journey of self-discovery is entertaining and poignant. The romantic leads have good chemistry and often genuinely funny interactions. The Hollywood setting adds a touch of glamour and intrigue to the story.
However, the book isn't without its flaws. The plot occasionally feels unrealistic, and some secondary characters could have been more fleshed out. Additionally, while the pacing is generally good, there are a few moments where the story drags a bit.
Overall, "Plot Twist" is a fun and lighthearted read that will appeal to fans of contemporary romance. It's not a perfect book, but its charm and humor make it a worthwhile escape.

This romance was not the best. It was a bit too meta for me and I didn't like the casual cheating aspect of the book.
The cover art is amazing. I think the authors writing is great, but the plot development itself was not.

I can’t come into this review saying I’m not biased—I love Erin La Rosa’s writing, and “Plot Twist” wasn’t the exception. “Plot Twist” follows romance author Sophie Lyon in the aftermath of a horrible confession that’s left the internet dumbstruck: she’s never been in love. Facing a career crisis and a manuscript deadline, Sophie decides to investigate her failed relationships and turn the chaos into content for her followers. Enter Dash Montrose, her brooding landlord and former teen star with secrets of his own. What starts as an unconventional friendship—with a dash of mutual attraction—quickly spirals into something much harder to define. What a plot twist.
This book strikes a balance between laugh-out-loud antics and thoughtful exploration of deeper themes like identity, family pressures, and the healing power of connection. Sophie’s journey to reclaim her narrative is inspiring, while Dash’s steady support and personal growth add emotional depth. And yes, the heat between them is undeniable—romance fans will not be disappointed.
Perfect for fans of romantic comedies with heart, “Plot Twist” is a testament to the messy, beautiful process of finding oneself—and maybe love—along the way. I couldn’t recommend this romance enough.

Why did I wait so long to read this??? Bc I am a mood reader… sometimes…
Anyway! I love Sophie and Dash. I related to Sophie on a level I haven’t since Lizzie Blake! Her writer’s block bc of never being in love is so real. I’m battling my own block and reading this story gave me a bit of insight for myself. That’s what I love in a story.
For the most part, Erin La Rosa's Plot Twist is a great book. It's rare to see characters like Sophie and Dash represented in romance, and the author's careful means of doing so made the story feel that much deeper. Love isn't always about saying the words, but it's about showing, and Erin La Rosa did a fantastic job of showing in these moments.
and she does it again. Erin is such a queen, her books dont miss and I love her so Much she is great and her characthers are like my besties and they deserve the whole world
Fun, sexy, and an easy read. I didn't love it as much as I wanted to. I loved the author's previous book but this one faired well.
There were so many things about this book that made me want to absolutely adore it. Things like Sophie having a pacemaker, the nuances of social media and representation of someone walking through recovery. But regardless of all the things I wanted to love about this book, I just really struggled with it.
I liked Dash, but didn't love him, and honestly felt like his recovery journey was super not great. I wish there had been a warning that he would relapse because that was pretty hard to read, and I'm not someone who has struggled with alcoholism in the past. I also don't think your sponsor can be your best friend? That seemed kind of weird to me.
Now, Sophie I had high hopes for. But they totally crashed and burned. I always love the build up of two people giving into the tension, but the moment that this happens for Sophie and Dash is also the moment that Sophie basically cheats on Carla, who she had just decided to try to make things work between them. I was even more confused that right after her and Dash got together that she blurts out that she's back with Carla and he's just like... oh okay, sure???? Just seemed super disingenuous. Especially lining up with the things that we know he is feeling from his POV.
But I think the nail in the coffin, was the scavenger hunt at the rehab facility. That just wouldn't be allowed, no way.
Overall, I really do like Erin La Rosa's writing style and the tempo of her plot. I really did want to love Plot Twist, but there was just too much to overlook to get there for me.
Cute little romance that makes a girl swoon. I love the literary drops of sweetness that we get sprinkled throughout the book. Nice characters and an adorable love story.
3.5… 4.. still unsure! It was super cute but I found myself bored a few times. I enjoyed the characters and thought they were cute together. The TikTok aspect was unique and entertaining! And I really liked how the topic of alcohol addiction was handled. Overall, it was sweet and fun but just not a favorite of mine!
This book hit close to home for me being sober 5 years myself! I absolutely adore and love how the author represented Dash and alcoholism. So many of his emotions and thoughts were a perfect representation.
The romance was adorable!
I truly enjoy reading this spicy rom-com. It was an enjoyable read, especially with the characters insane chemistry with each other. However, I didn't enjoy the heavy tones in this spicy romcom book. I didn't expect it too much, which is very surprising to read through. Keep that in mind if you want to pick this book up.
Thank you for the opportunity to review this. The topics of addiction and substance abuse are never easy to deal with, but I think it is important to confront our understandings and preconceived notions so we are better equipped to support people around us who might be struggling. This book allowed me to do some reflection, which is always appreciated in media. I enjoyed seeing the two characters grow and learn about each other. Building trust is not easy, especially when you struggle to trust yourself. This read did a good job showing how two people can come together and lay down their cards slowly to build a good foundation for a relationship.
I really liked the representation of the heroine in this story having a pacemaker. Sophie’s journey of reconnecting with her exes kinda made me want to crawl into a hole at the thought of this happening irl but it also makes for a great story. Plot Twist did a good job at opening the conversation up to exploring love while acknowledging a journey of healing some may need to go on to get there. Unfortunately, I felt that the story was missing a little something to elevate it further. I didn't find myself connecting to our characters often despite wanting to SO BADLY. I was going to latch onto anything I could. But sadly it just missed the mark with me.
This is a cute rom-com that has humor, relatable characters, and the unpredictability of life in an engaging story. With witty dialogue and charming twists, it's a great read for anyone who loves stories about second chances and unexpected romance. I read most of this book in one day!
This one was very cute! I will be honest, it was a total cover request as that cover is so pretty. Overall, the story was really cute and I have been recommending it to those who enjoy bookish romcoms.
This book read much like this punchy title. With the missing The that softens the feel, this book drew me with a good strong conflict. I particularly enjoyed that social media is a key plot device that brings Sophie and Dash together. In what ways do we productively use stress to bring out our best, and the flip side of that coin is how does this also find the weak points in our armor? This is what I found truly engaging in this book for both the FMC and the MMC are dealing with these questions while finding strength in the growing connection to each other. A good slow burn romance that will leave you thinking about addictions, love, and motivation all the while rooting for this pair!
This was such a cute book! A romance filled with lots of banter and great chemistry is always appreciated. This book had that while also touching up on heavier subjects such as alcohol abuse. What didn't work for me was that a lot of things seemed repetitive but they never got a proper conclusion. While the chemistry between the characters was palpable, I feel the character development was lacking. And all those tiktok references didn't help either!
cute rom-com! Plot Twist by Erin La Rosa is a cute rom-com that has humor, relatable characters, and the unpredictability of life. With witty dialogue and charming twists, it's a great read for anyone who loves stories about second chances and unexpected romance. The characters were nicely flushed out and I loved the romance between our main characters!
