I always say that Stephanie Plum books aren't ones that I take too seriously. They're fun, filler books for me. The overall storyline progresses so slowly that not much has happened in the overall arc over the last several releases. But the gists of the events stay the same.
Morelli is out of town testifying on a case, so Stephanie is babysitting Bob, Morelli's dog. But Morelli being missing means this book has much more of Ranger on the page. He's helping Stephanie hunt down Nutsy because his business was providing security for the jewelry store that got robbed, and Ranger doesn't like unsolved mysteries concerning his business.
Stephanie only had 3--maybe 4--skips to hunt down in Dirty Thirty, aside from working to find Nutsy who the local jewelry store owner thinks might have robbed him. Lula is always present on her adventures, but Lula is convinced she's being stalked by Grendle (from Beowulf). After Lula's apartment has a fire, she moves in with Stephanie--who temporarily moves in with Ranger. It's complicated.
One of the best scenes of the whole book is the chase scene with Stephanie's mom driving on their stakeout. It's one of those things that you can't see Stephanie's mom doing, yet it also completely fits in with her character at the same time.
As for that overall story arc I mentioned earlier, Stephanie finds herself in a dilemma at the end of the book that will potentially move us along a little bit. I'm hesitant to get too worked up about the supposed cliffhanger because, in typical fashion, I doubt much will be solved or wrapped up in the next book. We shall see.
Either way, Dirty Thirty was entertaining and exactly what I expected it to be when I picked it up. I actually had a chuckle out loud with this book which bumps it from my typical 3-Star rating to a 4-Star rating. Have you read (or listened to) Dirty Thirty? What did you think? Let me know!
Always love Stephanie Plum books! Such a great, fun mystery with so much humor thrown in! Grandma
Mazur is one of my favorite characters and I’m so glad we get a dose of Ranger along with Morelli!
I have been a long time Stephanie Plum fan. I have read every single one of the series and have enjoyed them all. This was more of the same in terms of a Plum novel, which isn't a bad thing! Stephanie is always fun, quirky and perpetually confused about who to pick Morelli or Ranger. Add in the skips she's after and a dose of Lula and you have a recipe for a disastrous, hot mess, hilarious time!
Evanovich never disappoints and if you like the other books in the series, then you'll like this one.
I love Stephanie Plum and her band of sidekicks! The more Grandma and Lula the better if you ask me
This was another great entry in the series - one of my favorites in recent years.
I look forward to thirty one!
I totally enjoy reading this series, all the characters are great and they make me chuckle, which I think is great in a book. I just hope if JE ever decides to wrap up the series ,she doesn't leave us hanging. I need it to be in the romance genre, where everyone has a happy ending.
I haven’t come across a single Stephanie Plum that I haven’t enjoyed, and this one is no exception.
I am a little amazed that the series I started reading as a teenager is still dropping new books and new hijinks but that’s not the point here.
A fun read, and a familiar cast give this book its stars.
Same plot, same love triangle, same cringe-worthy banter from Lula. How about killing off one of the main characters??? I vote for Lula, Grandma, or one of Stephanie's boyfriends.
Stephanie is assisting a jewelry store owner --along the way we find gravediggers, grandma in her best form and lots of laughs. This series is back and worth the read Lots of actions, lots of Bob the Dog, and we still don't know who Stephanie will finally choose. Just keeps the reader coming back for the next entry in the series.
Wow, I gotta say this one packed some punches and a cliffhanger. Everything I love about a Stephanie Plum book and more.
This was such a a wonderful and unexpected pleasure. Stephanie and Lula are both amazing in this book. There was so much action and drama that I couldn't put this book down. There were also a few spectacular surprises along the way. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery and a great big laugh.
I thought this was really well written and I look forward to reading more from this author in the future. I think it will find readers at our library, so we will definitely be purchasing for the collection.
I thought this was a great return to Stephanie Plum's best side! I have read all of the series, from back before I had kids (Stephanie Plum weekend back in the early 00's). I still read them when they come out but lately I wondered if I had outgrown the series. Well Dirty Thirty was a return to everything that delights me about Stephanie! Great job, Janet Evanovich. So fun and a great escape. I'm not ready for it to end!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC.
"Dirty Thirty" by Janet Evanovich is a delightful addition to the Stephanie Plum series, offering readers a rollercoaster ride of humor, suspense, and quirky characters. Evanovich's writing is at its best in this thirtieth installment, capturing the essence of the earlier books while introducing fresh twists.
Stephanie Plum, Trenton's hardworking yet underappreciated bounty hunter, finds herself juggling multiple cases. Local jeweler Martin Rabner hires her to locate his former security guard, Andy Manley (a.k.a. Nutsy), who he believes stole a fortune in diamonds. Simultaneously, Stephanie is on the lookout for Duncan Dugan, a fugitive arrested for robbing the same jewelry store on the same day. With her boyfriend Morelli away, Stephanie's life takes an unexpected turn when the inscrutable security expert Ranger steps in to assist.
The chemistry between Stephanie and Ranger crackles, adding an intriguing layer to the story. Evanovich masterfully balances humor and suspense, keeping readers engaged as the body count rises and witnesses mysteriously vanish. Stephanie's sidekick, Lula, provides comic relief, while Grandma Mazur and Stephanie's mother reveal nerves of steel during an overnight stakeout.
"Dirty Thirty" is a fun, fast-paced read that showcases Stephanie's luck, determination, and the chaos that ensues when everyone else is playing dirty. Whether you're a longtime fan of the series or a newcomer, this book delivers the signature blend of action, romance, and eccentricity that defines the Stephanie Plum novels. Prepare to laugh out loud and root for Stephanie as she navigates treacherous waters with her usual mix of wit and grit. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Finally some growth in characters and a plot twist at the end. The best part of the book was Bob bounty hunting with the women. Dirty thirty still has the same dynamics as the rest of the series but left us with a cliffhanger.
Janet Evanovich does it again. Her witty funny characters are back for another book. It took me a bit of picking up and putting this one down but I did. Pick it up and finally finished it. It was a bit slower than some of the others in the series. But once you have started the series you know you have to finish it. If you like her writing and this series you have to read it. And then you know you will be back to read the next one. Cause there is some explaining that needs to be done.
Janet Evanovich never misses with her books! This one definitely isn’t an exception! This was so fun and quick to read.
I can’s say enough good things about this series and I never want it to end. This was a fantastic addition and I was so happy to be traveling along with Stephanie Plum on a new adventure. I love all of the characters but I think my favorite is Lula. Some of the scenes had me laughing out loud. Very good Ms. Evanovich!
Many thanks to Atria and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Fun with Stephanie and Lula back in the Berg. I liked that we had a little more of Lula this installment. Stephanie does not make the best personal choices but some how pulls it off anyway. Anyone will enjoy this book, first timers and long time readers.
Janet is always my go to for easy funny reads.
Stephanie is a welcome friend by this point.
For a palate cleanser and simple, couple hours read, I give this book 4 stars
If we are going for some profound novel, two stars.
Overall JE knows how to make me laugh. She's a consistent author.
Ebook/Comedy-Mystery: The plot could get confusing with some of the new characters, but I really liked this one. And what the crap was that surprise ending!
