The fact that you could just write a book about any of these characters is amazing! The way that each of them is main character on their own and yet no one out shines anyone else is a hard thing to accomplish in a book. Typically their is always one character that just takes over the rest which is why a book has a main character but Lila Glass does an amazing job of highlighting each of the four lead characters in a way that you dont see one more than another. If you love faeries, magic and a story about finding yourself then this is the book for you!
This book actually impressed me! Lilla Glass crafts a thrilling, well-developed story rife with magic, mayhem, and spirited otherworldly beings. I can't wait to read more from this author!
i really enjoys these characters! the interaction between them was very entertaining but they were quality captivating on their own. The world building also stood out to me and made me eager to continue reading!
I'd like to thank the publisher for providing me with an ARC.
I wanted to like this book more than I did. There’s interesting characters and a decent plot, however I struggled with the pacing. The worldbuilding also was a bit confusing. Overall this felt like a decent read that I wanted a bit more from.
The thing I liked most about this book was the character development. The coward finds courage. The heartless assassin finds a heart. The selfish prince finds selflessness. It was almost like a Wizard of OZ retelling. But with fae and faeries.
I devoured this audiobook. Absolutely LOVED the female main character and it's been a while since I read a clean, fantasy that didn't have explicit romantic scenes in it. It was a breath of fresh air and made me live more for the plot. Any multiple POV books are a win in my perspective. The narrator was perfect as well!
Thanks NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to this book in exchange for an honest review!
IT WAS SO SO GOOD. Loved the narrators.
At the heart of the story is a compelling cast of characters, each with their own secrets and desires. The protagonist's journey is marked by a sense of vulnerability that resonates with readers, making her struggles and triumphs all the more captivating. It was just so much good fun.
The Unseen by Lilla Glass is the first book I’ve read by this author and I genuinely enjoyed it. This story told in multiple POV’s is an adventure, romantic fantasy that follows 5 main characters Lydia, Elwyn, Arden, Luatha, and Brannon.
Elwyn is remarkably unremarkable, she is a thief, but with a heart of gold. Lydia is a sweet little girl who just happens to be stuck in the middle of everything going on. Brannon is Elwyn’s arch nemesis, an assassin, who has realized that he doesn’t have to be a grump all the time and now wants to prove his worth. Aedyn is a Prince who likes to meddle and is always looking for a new adventure.
The books world building is amazing, the characters were written so well, and the story was well paced. I loved the banter between the characters, the world that was built, and the lore. I’m still new to fantasy, but I genuinely enjoyed this book. I give this book 4 stars.
The Unseen is an interesting and vast fantasy full of world building and many characters. I loved the detail of this and how multi layered and unique this was. The only downside was I did find myself confused at times to who's POV was whose and some of the world building wasn't completely clear. Saying this however, I really enjoyed listening to this and I will definitely check out the rest of this series.
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!
I enjoyed the strong and flawed female MC I’m a big fan of clean fantasy. I’m very happy to read a good book with characters who aren’t always having their bedroom scenes described in detail. There’s some swearing and violence, but the romance in this story was not overdone. It allowed the story to shine through more. Thank you LG!
I’m not 100% sure I understand the world that was built in this story, but it was still entertaining. This was a world of multiple dimensions with travel to and from a magical and non-magical place. I believe this is just book one in a series and I will definitely read book 2 because the ending of this story leaves a desire for more.
I recommend to adults who like fantasy/fae worlds!
It's been a considerable amount of time since I came across a truly captivating fantasy novel that doesn't involve romantic escapades. However, I'm not looking for any romance at present, rather, I'm in search of a pure fantasy adventure. The story follows Elwyn, the primary character, who possesses a rare gift of blending in seamlessly. She can go unnoticed and is quite unremarkable, which is a great advantage when you're on the run from being a deadly assassin.
But her peaceful life is soon disrupted when she's tracked down by another assassin whose mission is to bring her back into the fold. Along the way, we are introduced to a host of other characters, and their journeys are depicted through various points of view. Although it might be challenging to keep track of all the different plotlines initially, as the story progresses, the relationships between the characters become more apparent.
What sets this book apart is the remarkable world-building. The author has created a vibrant and intricate world with well-defined characters. Despite the presence of familiar character types like Seelie, Unseelie, and Changelings, the author has created her own unique rules and magic system that sets this book apart from the rest.
The characters themselves are morally ambiguous, and the line between good and evil is blurred. The author has skillfully crafted her villains too, making them just as intriguing as the heroes.
Although the book is relatively short, the author has woven a beautiful and epic fantasy tale. The descriptions of the characters and their surroundings are vivid and enchanting, and the world-building is nothing short of extraordinary. I'm eagerly anticipating more novels from this author.
This book was so much fun to listen to! It was written really well and the story was intricate enough that it kept me on my toes but never confused me! The characters were fun to listen to and learnt heir stories. I will say the rhyming creature was tricky to listen to from time to time, but other than that, the book was done really well & the audio narrator was so much fun to listen to tell this story!
Can't wait to read more from Lilla!
Thank you NetGalley for an audio eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The Unseen by Lilla Glass had all the makings of a wonderful book. I appreciated that there was no awkward info dumping and the world building really worked well. The pacing, for the most part, was good. That said, things did feel a little clunky with pacing/plot due to the amount of POV's in The Unseen at times.
However, this did not stop me from enjoying this audiobook. The main character was likeable and this world of the supernatural, assassins, magic and murder was intriguing. This is definitely a book I would recommend even if it had the occasional flaw.
I’d recommend this to people who enjoy:
🤍Celtic mythology
🤍multiple storylines converge
🤍magic realms
My thoughts:
This was a fun, very accessible first book in The Reel of Rhysia series! The world-building was very easy to follow, and the characters were interesting and multi-layered!
I LOVE seeing Celtic mythology beyond just variations of fae or faeries! This author has really done her research into the inner-workings of Celtic stories and creatures, and brings them to life in this fresh story!
My con- I struggled with several of the characters’ motivations. It seemed like two of them in particular were just along for the ride, and I never fully understood why they were going on this perilous journey and standing beside their new friends when things got tough.
A big exception to this is Prince Aedyn! I found his need for adventure and new experiences very compelling, and thought he had the perfect personality to wrangle the rag-tag group along.
All in all, I think there’s a lot of fun elements put into play here, and it will be interesting to see how these characters grow as the series progresses.

Well deserved 5 star review.
This was a great story - we follow unremarkable Elwyn the thief and her invisible friend as she tries to find herself a quiet life in Amblewick. However, a twist of fate leaves her battling with old enemies and new friends as they try to save the worlds…
This book has multiple POVs, and the best part of the book is that the characters feel real. Everyone is a bit good and a bit bad and the journey each one takes feels real.
I listened to this as an audiobook and I have to say - this book has hands down the best narrator I’ve heard on an audiobook. Every character had a distinct and recognisable voice, which meant that despite the switching POVs (which can be tricky over audiobook) the story was still easy to follow and engaging.
The books published now, I would highly recommend you all give it a go.
A dark, violent Fae Fantasy is influenced by traditional Seelie & Unseelie rules, politics, and brutality. Assassins, Thieves, and a Prince all have gruesome and tragic backstories.
This work leans toward the Epic Fantasy with intricate world-building requiring initial effort for immersion. I was eight chapters when everything clicked, and I felt ensnared with the need to know what would happen next.
I read it as an audiobook with narration by Patricia Santomasso. She was terrific, with a unique and captivating voice. Listening to it as an audiobook really kept the pacing and interest progressing, especially in the beginning, as multiple perspectives were introduced. The multi-perspective drama entwined the stories into one mesmerizing puzzle.
The work is a strong 4, not quite a 5, but solid piece, and I recommend it to more adult dark fantasy fans.

Where the mundane meets the magical, "Unseen" offers us a glimpse into a world where the lines blur between truth and lies. In this story, it's up to a fickle prince, a sickly little girl, and two desperate assassins to stop the evil forces before the lands of the mortals, fairies, living, and dead all merge together into one.
This book includes:
- Unseelie and seelie courts
- changelings
- multiple POV
- a secret assassin guild
- unwilling allies
- begrudging friendship
- ensemble cast
- enemies to friends
- pompous fae
- magic and murder
"The Unseen" includes so many great elements and has a great overall storyline. Each of our main characters have tangible motivations and this really added to my ability to buy into the storyline and invest myself emotionally in each of the four protagonists's journies. I can really see readers in the middle school and high school range really loving this book. Overall, I enjoyed this book, that said, I had some trouble with the pacing and felt like the story was bogged down by details at some points. There were a few points where I got annoyed at the number of characters and I felt that there were so many POVs that could have been cut out. The POVs from the witch, the king, and the trickster in particular felt particularly superfluous (keeping it vague to avoid spoilers). I think this would have given us more time to dive deeper into the psyche of some of our main cast.
Great plot and interesting characters, I recommend this book to fans of "Thornehedge." and the Uglies Series.
I received this audiobook as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher.
Magical World with many characters, Glass brings you a world filled with assassins, witches , and more! I listened to this book on audio and the narrator provided multiple voices for each character so you could easily distinguish who was speaking when. As enticing as the story was the multitude of characters and their plots made the overall arching end goal confusing and at times frustrating. Certain points of view and characters to begin with provided no progression for the story and main character growth was stunted by choices in the plot. Although a fun filled adventure be ready to pay attention to the details otherwise you may end up like an Unseen!
really like the premise of this book and it had a lot of potential. The world is intreguing and the magic system is well thought out. However, I would say that the MULTIPLE (we really talking multiple) POV's made it a bit difficult to follow along. Usually I really enjoy multiple POV's but there is a limit to how many POV's you can keep up with. It was up towards 5 POV's in this book and it was done in a way that made it difficult to follow along whos you were following.
Interesting world: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
📚This story has an interesting premise and I loved the world building throughout. Along with the world building the creatures and rhythmic writing was enjoyable to listen to. However, the copious amount of view points in the story can be overwhelming. Point of view switches dramatically and often leaving for a disconnected story. Narration and production of this story was well done in my opinion!
🔔Content notes: high violence, explicit language, some mild lgbtq representation
