This was such a cute book. The animal facts are super interesting. The animal illustrations are excellent. I would have no trouble letting my child read this book. I enjoy books that give facts about things and the book isn't too challenging for a child to read on their own or have a parent help them read.
Okay, this book was amazing! We loved all of the pictures and the different activities on each page. My three year old loved looking for the different things in the pictures and trying to figure out who matches what! The illustrations were so pretty, colorful and fun. Not only were the matching games fun, but we learned so many animals and facts that we didn't know before! I'll definitely be recommending this to everyone who has young children. This is one we wound read over and over!
Thank you Chouette Publishing / CrackBoom! Books for a digital copy of this book! This book is out now, and we definitely recommend it.

How exciting as an animal keeper to have a book I can share with my child that includes Malayan tapirs and gharials, and even has a section on animal poop! This book includes animals that are both well-known and less commonly known, Broken into 12 topics, a handful of animals are selected that represent each one and additional facts are given to us (under diet, we learn koalas eat primarily eucalyptus and sleep 20 hours a day because there is little nutrition in the leaves).
I love the layout of the book, how small clues help children guess which animal matches each fact, and then the next pages go into further detail. This interactive feature is perfect for younger readers. The facts are interesting and engaging. I found the illustrations well-drawn and vibrant, especially important for some of the colorful animals and patterns. It was a pleasure to look at and read. I also enjoyed the last page encouraging children to keep reading and learning.
This is a wonderful children's book and would appeal to toddlers reading with parents, as well as older children interested in learning animal facts. I received this as an ARC from NetGalley.
Alternatively listed as "Can You Guess the Animal?" and "Funny and Fascinating Animals!", this is a very early biology and nature book, but not a worthless one at all. I suspected it would be a random list of factoids and trivia, telling us something of the world based on a few superlatives. But what we get was a bit more gathered, cohesive and coherent. Here is a spread covering animal tongues, and it's a simple task to match the six tongues with the six critters. Turn the page and a different presentation of them all contains the written information, meaning that yes we can both learn the colour of a giraffe's tongue and that it can be used to lick its own ears out. We're quickly on to other body parts, introducing us to the 150 tail feathers of a peacock, and a whole lot more – including bringing to the young attention the concept of identifying the beasts by their footprints, scat or other leavings. I think it's hampered by the artwork being so basic, cartoonish and unrealistic, but it just about justifies its place in proceedings. A slightly cautious four stars, then.
Funny and Fascinating Animals was a fun picture book. I enjoyed the matching games and the animal facts! The illustrations are bright and fun! This would be great for a variety of ages.
Bright, fun and delightfully organized into matching body parts: tongues, tails, teeth, fur and so forth. Each section allows children to take a quiz on which part goes with which critter, which will help keep children interested as they guess. But the facts are interesting for adult readers, too. (Who knew the chow had a blue tongue?) I enjoyed this book very much and wish I'd been able to download it to Kindle so I could share it with my grandchildren. I also couldn't put a review on Goodreads because the book wasn't listed there. But I enjoyed it and highly recommend this for pre-school and early readers.
This is a fabulous book ideal for KS1, for each of the sections you have a guess the … page, followed by the reveal and a set of interesting facts for each of the animals.
The illustrations are bright and engaging and the facts are indeed fascinating!
Funny and Fascinating Animals! is a colorful and exciting picture book for the youngest readers with lots of interesting facts about wild animals. Released 1st March 2022 by CrackBoom! Books, it's 64 pages and is available in hardcover format.
This is an exuberantly colorful fact-filled book with an engaging format. Double page spreads are written around different features or behaviors for different animals. The chapter headings ask "whose tongue is this?", "whose favorite foods", "whose droppings", "whose tracks", and more. After reading the simple text and looking at the 2 first page illustrations, and guessing which tongue belongs to which animal, readers can turn the page and get explanations with the full picture on the next 2 page spread.
It's a clever outlay and the pictures are fun and energetically appealing. This would make a super library or classroom book as well as for gift giving. This would also be a good book for caregivers to spend time reading and interacting with their young children. There are both well known animals like cats and giraffes as well as more esoteric choices such as tarsiers and pacu.
Five stars. I love nonfiction books for kids and this one is well written and illustrated and information rich.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
This children’s picture book about many unusual and fascinating animals is spectacular! The illustrations are expressive, brilliantly colored, silly, creative, and fun. The way the book is laid out is very colorful and makes it exciting to learn about the different characteristics of countless unusual animals. The book is categorized by animals and their various characteristics such as: tongues, foods, coats, tails, traces, snouts, droppings, dwellings, eyes, tracks, teeth, and camouflage. The facts are fascinating, and I couldn’t have guessed most of them had my life depended on it. And believe me, I tried to guess which animal went with which tongue, teeth, eyes, and pooh….and I was almost always wrong.
I’m positive that any child would absolutely love this book! It would make a beautiful addition to any home, preschool, or elementary classroom.
I want to thank Authors Anna Gasol and Teresa Blanch, Illustrator Sigrid Martinez, Chouette Publishing, CrackBoom Books, and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this Advanced Reader’s Copy. This is a voluntary review, and all comments and opinions are entirely my own.

A very well written book with cute facts about animals to read, especially to your child or grandchildren. All children will enjoy this book full of facts about animals and well illustrated photos to show each fact, and all will enjoy the photos and the facts about animals. The first chapter is about tongues, and shows photos of the tongues of each animal and you match the tongues up with the proper animal. After matching up the tongues with the animals, the next part tells about each tongue and their unique descriptions of the tongues., The giraffe has a tongue that is so blue, it's almost a black color. Plus, the tongue is so long that the giraffe can even clean it's ears with it's tongue! This is such a cute fact for all to know and each animal will have this cute description of their tongue which will be a rewarding fact for all to learn and see the wonderful photos.
This is a great element for all to know about this enjoyable book is, the great photos of the well-known facts and about all the different animals.
My favorite part of the book was the chapter about tracks. This chapter shows photos of the tracks of the animals and you match the tracks with the proper animal. After you have matched the animals correctly, you are given the facts about the tracks and tells us what animal leaves these tracks. This is a great benefit for all when you walk in the woods and see tracks of animals, and you learned these facts about the tracks from this book.
This is a great book for all to read and especially to read to your children,. I enjoyed myself, reading to my grandchildren this book, and they found it so interesting they did not want to go to bed until we were finish reading the book.!
I recoommend this book for parents to read to their children for a good animal fact story and wonderful photos to also enjoy.
What a fantastic book!
The illustrations are beautiful and so colourful, which help keep a kid's attention but also are very fun to look at as an adult.
The facts chosen are a good mix of informative and special or surprising, without being too complicated.
I particularly love how each section starts with a game, which motivates the child to interact with their reading and question their pre-existing knowledge. Brilliant way to get them to engage actively with the content.
There is a wide variety of animals from different regions on Earth, some well known and some I had never heard of!
The information texts aren't too long and the vocabulary is appropriate for children age 7+ alone, or younger with an adult.
I highly recommend!
Thank you NetGalley and Chouette Publishing for an Advanced Copy.
We loved learning about the fascinating facts about different animals. I love the way the information is organized. The illustrations are great and full of so much color. We were excited to see our favorite animal, The Peacock Spider, was included.
Funny and Fascinating Animals! was extremely interesting and a delight to read. We learned so much new information about animals and wildlife that we didn't know before. The illustrations were fantastic and really helped bring the book to life. Guessing which charactaristic went with each animal/insect was a fun game for my young readers.
Very colorful! Loved how the author chose lessor known animals and gave fun new facts. Not the same boring giraffes are tall and pigs say oink. Great book for elementary libraries.
Funny and Fascinating Animals is a fantastic book. My son loved the colorful illustrations. I really enjoyed the interactive aspects of this book. Several pages included matching activities to help keep young readers engaged.
I look forward to adding this book to my son’s library at home,
This is a fun book to help teach children fun facts about many different animals. There are some matching games included where you match the animal with the topic discussed. We start with tongues. A giraffe's tongue is blue and long enough that he can clean his ears. Did you know that?
Then food. Butterflies not only eat nectar from flowers but in some places the tears of crocodiles. They contain special nutrients.
Coats. Very colorful animals including some not very familiar like mandarin fish and peacock spiders.
Signs animals have been there such as their scatt.
This is a very informative book but done in such a fun way.
My 7-year-old and I loved this book! It is a nonfiction book that talks about animal facts in a fun way. Each topic has an interactive animal trait matching game, and on the following pages are the answers and more information about the different animal traits. My son had fun matching snouts, habitats, footprints, and more to the correct animal. There were a lot of cool animals we had never heard of. We stayed up past bedtime to finish because he didn’t want to stop reading!
This is the perfect book for any animal lover. The illustrations were bright and beautiful. It was a fun engaging read, and my son was discussing all the new facts he learned when we finished. Thank you to NetGalley and Chouette Publishing for a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.
What a great book for kids! I read it to the kids that live next door and they loved learning all the fascinating things about different animals. There were lots of giggles to go around too. The illustrations are done beautifully and really keep the kids glued to the pages.
What a fantastic book with great illustrations, I will definitely be picking this up for my preschool class. There is so much interesting information and bright colourful pictures, children of all ages will love it
Amazingly educational! Funny and Fascinating Animals is one of the best children's non fiction books that I've read this year. I really enjoyed reading this book and believe it or not, I learned quite a bit myself. Like how a giraffe's tongue is so long that it can clean its ears with it! I also learned about some animals/fish that I never heard of -- like the mandarinfish.
Clearly, the authors and the illustrator have conducted extensive research to compile such an educational and colorful book for the young ones. I'll be sure to look for them at my favorite bookstore for my grands. I am sure that Funny and Fascinating Animals will be one of their favorites. Five outstanding stars.
I received a digital copy of the book from Chouette Publishing through NetGalley. The review herein is completely my own and contains my honest thoughts and opinions.

"Baya Weaver - this clever little bird suspends it's nest from a thorn tree or palm tree beside the water. This way, predators can't easily attack." 🐦
Thank you Chouette Publishing / @crackboombooks for a digital copy of this book!
A fun educational book about animals! Children will love learning unique facts about animals. Vibrant pictures abound. This will be perfect for early elementary school aged children.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A great book for growing minds. This book features a variety of different animals. I enjoyed that it included animals that aren't featured as often in other books. Children get the opportunity to learn fun facts about different animals immediately followed up with an interactive page right after. A great way to add in reading / listening comprehension as you go through the book.
The pictures are nice and colorful and have lots of things for children to look at and discuss as you read.
10/10 would purchase this book for the children in my life.
This book was great! My daughter loved reading some interesting animal facts and matching up the animals’ tails, tracks, mouths, etc. I liked that it featured many animals such as the peacock, kangaroo, etc. on top of the most popular like lions, tigers, bears. We also loved the illustrations.
Funny and Fascinating Animals is one of the best places for a child to expand their knowledge on the animal kingdom. This book, albeit a guide, serves as a mini yet simple encyclopaedia to little kids with cute illustrations and easy sentences that are user-friendly.
I loved this book! The art was eye-catching and bright, without being too busy. The facts you learn about the animals are super interesting, perfect for a kid fascinated by animals!
Oh how fun this book is! I read this to my toddlers and we love it. They enjoyed the guessing games and discovering new facts about the animals. The colors are bright, colorful and is easy to read. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a gifted copy.
What a fun learning experience!
The clever artistry of Sigrid Martínez combined with the planning and ideas of Anna Gasol and Teresa Blanch and the translation (French to English) by Robin Bright make this a naturalist's delight to share with everyone. The text is easy and suitable for reading WITH youngsters and also good for ESL. The plan is to picture with questions about various aspects of the animal world followed by the answers in text and illustrations. Even this grandmother learned about some creatures unfamiliar to me! Buy a copy for home, school, and your local library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book copy from Chouette Publishing/CrackBoom! Books via NetGalley. Thank you!
This fun and interesting children's book is a must read for children curious about the animal kingdom around the world. Dangerous animals, shy animals, animals that build fascinating homes - there is much for young learner's to discover in this book.
Not only does the author create interactive reading experiences that could help the child learn while reading or being read to, but the author has also showcased many animals from around the world - with a mix of well-known animals to some both readers young and old might be unfamiliar with. The text is filled with exciting and fascinating animal facts and is sure to be a family favourite for inquisitive readers. The bright and colourful illustrations also make the book visually appealing to read.
My only complaint is that the author did not include where each animal is to be found in the world. That would have greatly enhanced this book.
This book is a must have addition to both personal or public library collections, and would be a great springboard into lessons in the classroom, or to complement instruction.
Thank you to NetGalley and Chouette Publishing for this free eARC in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
This amazing book is a true winner. It is educational and full of facts about familiar and unfamiliar animals. It poses a quiz and guessing game on one page and then is followed up with actual information about those animals on the next. The book covers a variety of categories such as: whose tongue is this? Whose favourite foods are these? Whose droppings are these? Whose eyes are these? Whose footprints are these? Who lost a tooth? and Who hides here? just to cite a few.
The illustrations are bright, colourful and very child-friendly. The text is simple and easy for a child to understand. Adults will love to share the book again and again with their little ones because I am sure grown-ups will learn some fun facts too. I know I did to my delight!
I never knew that a giraffe's tongue is blue and so long that it can even clean its own ears with it or that butterflies and other insects drink not only the nectar of flowers but in certain regions of the world the tears of crocodiles and caymans. Those tears contain nutrients and minerals that are otherwise difficult to find in nature. Who knew? Definitely not me! The book is packed full of amazing facts that are both fascinating and mind-boggling!
The book is a celebration of the wonders of wildlife and will keep a child engaged from beginning to end. I love this book and recommend it. It has Storywraps endorsement for sure!
This book is so much fun! It educates readers about interesting, neat and often odd or funny things about many different kinds of animals found in different types of habitats. Readers will be fascinated by the cool information included here as well as loving the pictures!
Amazing illustrations and great facts about different animals that will keep children engaged as they read it. I voluntarily reviewed an advance readers copy of this book.
A great introduction to different types of animals. I love that this book explored different details, such as animal tracks, animal homes, different features and even animal scat! This will be a fantastic choice for readers that are interested in animal science.
This was a very cute and fun book about animals. The book focuses on different animal features, such as tongues, tails, and snouts, and lets readers guess which feature belongs to a which animal. For example, in the Tongues layout, one page shows close-up illustrations of six different tongues. On the opposite page, there are full size illustrations of all six animals. Readers have the opportunity to match the close-up illustrations with the full-size illustrations. Then on the next pages, they learn about interesting features of all the tongues and what makes them unique. I can see young readers who are interested in animals loving this book and looking through it over and over again.
