Thanks to NetGalley for an early copy of this book. Below is my honest review.
Maggie is our MC and she lives and works in the Tower of London. Maggie’s obnoxious ex won’t leave her alone. He gaslights her, manhandles her, blows up her phone, and won’t stay away.
When running a terrible errand for her awful boss (haunted cellar, anyone), she runs into a pompous man she nicknames Lord Lamppost…only to find out he is a guardsman.
Thankfully, Lord Lamppost, aka Freddie, seems to be around whenever said ex come by in person. Freddie and Maggie start getting to know each other. She befriends some other guardsmen who challenge her to five dates with five different people. Why doesn’t she date Freddie, you ask? She promised herself she wouldn’t be like her mother who fell for a guard. She couldn’t stay up worrying about him or where he was, spending holidays alone.
Let’s just say the dates … aren’t what Maggie hoped. Will she find her true love? Or will she realize he was right there all along?
Overall, the book was cute. I loved the setting and Freddie’s guard buddies were likable and a lot of fun. And the ravens! Bonus points for teaching me a little lesser known history.
Maggie thinking it’s all over at 26 was … frustrating. So were her coworkers. We got a reason her boss didn’t like her, but the others? And no one else seemed to care people were abusing the security footage?
I pretty much predicted the ending, but that didn’t ruin the experience. If you want a lighthearted book, minus the bullying from her ex and coworkers, then give it a whirl.
The title and cover got me! Adorable!
This is a cute one. An accident prone heroine falls for a member of the royal guard…what’s not to love?
If you love all things royal and sweet romcoms I think you would enjoy this one! It’s a clean romance with only kissing and has a relatable heroine that makes you root for her each step of the way!
Thank you to the author and NetGalley for this fun read!
Super fun romance set in my favorite place! I’m obsessed with the tower ravens and loved the memoir written by the current Raven Master. So when I realized this was set in the tower and featuring people who live there I was hooked! Wonderful romance with a quirky and unique setting. Loved it!
This one was super cute! I loved learning new phrases they use in England. It was a slow burn romance but Maggie and Freddie were perfect for each other. It was a fun easy read?
Incredibly cute, fun and very, very romantic!!
I absolutely loved this book, it's like stepping into a dream - I mean who hasn't dreamt of living in the tower of London with a handsome guard and the ravens?
Maybe, that's just me!
But something about it rather appeals, which is why I have been completely swept away with this wonderful debut, I loved the story, the clever and relatable Maggie, the writing is immersive and highly enjoyable and I fell in complete love with the whole idea of living in the tower.
The characters are fabulous, Maggie is so relatable, she is the stereotypical girl next door, she could be anyone of us she has the same worries and body confidence issues and huge dreams. The guardsmen are a contradictory bunch, with lots of brash and humourous bravado you would expect, but there is gentleness you wouldn't have imagined, I thought they all brought a certain charisma to the overall story and I really liked that..
This is a super cute romantic comedy, there are plenty of laughs and lots of heartfelt emotion and 'awww' moments, a definite must-read!!
This book was absolutely fantastic. Even more so knowing that it was a debut novel. I loved Maggie. I seriously adored her so much. I just felt myself able to connect with her and could see myself in the character. I really liked Freddie too. Well, when he wasn’t being his grumpy closed off self. But I do realize that was part of who he was and I still really liked him. I loved the story, I loved the friends she made, and despised her coworkers and ex. I could have had a whole book written around her interactions with the guards and I would have loved that too. Highly recommend this book and giving the author a try. Absolutely not spicy at all but it didn’t need it. But as a warning, I absolutely SOBBED for the last 4-5 chapters of the book. So get your tissues.
Cute quick read. Clawson's writing is character-forward, quick-witted, and burns bright. I thoroughly enjoyed this read and I will most definitely be recommending to friends and colleagues. I am looking forward to what comes next!
I received a digital copy of Falling Hard for the Royal Guard via NetGalley to read and review.
I love how the author brought life to the royal guards. It’s easy to think of them as having zero personality since we only think of them as unmoving statues. This was a slow burn romance but even with the slower build up I really liked following Maggie around and her love for history.
I really hope we get more stories from the Tower of London….maybe from a guard’s POV?
I don’t typically gravitate towards the romance genre at the moment unless the plot sounds unique and/or interesting so when I saw that the main character of Falling Hard for the Royal Guard actually lived in the Tower of London, I knew I had to read it!
I LOVED this! This gives me 90s classic rom-com vibes… like Bridget Jones or Notting Hill… especially the scene towards the end where Maggie is running and is told to “Keep off the King’s grass!” . It’s so cute, I’m going to buy a physical copy just so I can hug it and draw hearts all over the last couple of chapters.
There isn’t any spicy scenes, but in this story, they aren’t necessary.
“Love is in the Heir”
Maggie Moore has always dreamed of starring in her own fairytale. Living in the Tower of London is the perfect setting. The trouble is, Maggie seems to be one step from utter disaster in her every day life, especially in the realms of love and work. After a truly disastrous day, a chance meeting with a mysterious person has Maggie thinking maybe things are finally looking up.
This was seriously the cutest book. I love a good slow burn and this definitely delivered. I would rush home from work and try to get through a few chapters before having to be a “responsible adult”. Maggie is the most relatable character I have read all year. She’s spunky, quirky, funny, and just plain adorable. I think most of us have a good bit of Maggie in them. I loved seeing her character develop throughout the story, not just rising above and people pleasing, but to put herself on the line and stick up for herself.
Freddie is swoon worthy. He’s so British and proper in the beginning that it’s good to see Maggie be able to make him more himself. He finally gets to discover who he really is and what he really wants and go after that.
And the angst of almost kisses and stolen thoughts…they are my favorite part of the slow burn. Pure bliss
I loved the side characters who really formed a found family for Maggie: from the guards, to the Beefeaters, to the Ravenmaster…they all had a special place in her heart, and her in theirs.
I will say, as a side note, I was a little worried in the beginning about all of the historical facts and references. But once I really got into the book, I loved them, so much so that I want to go tour the Tower of London and see all of the places Maggie loved so much.
This was solid four star read for me and I cannot wait to see what the author comes up with next!
Thank you to NetGalley, Megan Clawson, and Harper Collins Publishers for this ARC.
Maggie lives in the Tower of London with her father after a rough breakup. One day, she wakes up late for work and the day gets progressively worse from there—from rude coworkers to a visit from her emotionally abusive boyfriend. Walking home that night, she’s not paying attention and thinks she’s slammed into a light pole. It turns out to be a man and he’s short with her. It’s the worst ending to the day she’s had and it leaves a bad taste in her mouth.
She then sees that one of the Grenadier Guards is the man she collided with. She confronts him while he’s on duty, so he can’t say anything. Later, he finds her in a spat with her ex and saves her from him. This slowly forms into a friendship and she learns his name is Freddie. She starts spending a lot of time with him and the other soldiers on duty. She wants more but he keeps saying she’s a “friend.”
This comes to a head when Freddie invites her to a gala. I won’t give away the specifics, but they both take it equally hard. They are both from vastly different worlds but are in their own little world together. Can that bit of respite be enough for the challenges they face from the outside world?
It was a very sweet romance and some moments at the end had me in sobs. It's a heartfelt, but light tale that can be enjoyed in a sitting or two—I thoroughly enjoyed it.
This comes out on April 27th in the UK and May 2nd in the US.
I received a DIGITAL Advance Reader Copy of this book from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was an insanely cute book and was a very easy read. The way that this author describes the Tower of London makes me feel like I was actually there as I was reading it. It felt so clear and I could picture it perfectly. I loved being able to picture this setting and all of the people who live there and make up Maggie's life.
I was happy that this book was different from many others and didn't feel the need to have the main character go through this major change and try to become different. She was perfect as she was and didn't need to be changed. The only thing I would have liked to see is for her to be happy with a job she loved.
This cover pulled me in and this book lived up to the cover hype! I’m a sucker for Royal romance and this was super cute! The atmosphere and the banter were spot on!

This is a very cute rom-com! It’s a light read but it has such a large cast of characters that it becomes convoluted at times. @meganambxr has such fun Tower of London facts (I hope they’re facts) from the haunted vault cellar to the difficulty of getting a pizza delivered. There are so many unique, tiny plot twists that wouldn’t be possible anywhere else. I would definitely recommend this book for a enjoyable summer read!

Review:
Maggie recently left her cheating and emotionally manipulative ex and has moved back in with her dad (a beefeater) in the Tower of London. She works a survival job at the ticket booth where she has insufferable coworkers. On top of everything, Maggie is also massively clumsy, bumping into centuries old safes and sometimes lamp post like royal guardsmen. We follow Maggie on her journey to rediscover love and friendship.
This book literally had me crying at the end. This story kept me on my toes. Im obsessed with all the characters we meet. I want more stories about the beefeaters, about Katie and Mhairi, about Mo, Riley, Walker. So many opportunities to expand the universe.
I thoroughly enjoyed this rom com. It was an east read and does not feel like a debut novel. The pacing of this book is *chefs kiss*. There was never a dull moment on Maggies journey. I loved the side quests Maggie goes on to find herself from tinder dates to bartending to befriending other guardsmen. Megan mentions a Harry Styles fan fic in her acknowledgements and would love to see that myself :P

Overall this was a cute story.
A girl who moves back with her dad after her mom passes, tries to get her dream job but is constantly passed up and is now working at a job she hates with people she hates. Add in a cute guard and a creepy narcissistic ex and you have the perfect rom com.
Overall the only thing I didn't like about this book was how quickly it ended. I was left with feeling that the story wasn't fully done so I am hoping there is a sequel
Megan Clawson did a lovely job with this book. I love that she lives in the Tower of London and the fact that the book also takes place there. While it was a fun read with a cute storyline, I’m not sure I really connected with the characters.
Thank you Netgalley for an arc copy of Falling Hard for the Royal Guard.
Thank you for the ARC copy of this book. I absolutely loved this romcom. Maggie is such a relatable character. I enjoyed all of her clumsy moments and loved Freddie. Such a feel good heartwarming book. I enjoyed getting to know a bit of the Towers history. It had so many funny moments. I laughed quite a bit. I was mad at Bran quite a lot and I swooned over Freddie more times than I can count. Such a lighthearted easy read. It only took me so long to finish it because my brother is in the ICU and I spent a lot of time at the hospital with him. If anyone is looking for a cute romcom easy read this book is for you. Happy Reading!!!
The Tower of London is one of my favorite historical things to research, so I was thrilled to find this book. Falling Hard for the Royal Guard delivers on all its promises. It was everything I hoped it would be: cute, sweet, sexy, and lots of fun. And it gave a wonderful peek into the lives of the people living at the Tower of London.
The hero, Freddie, was consistently excellent. He's by no means perfect and he screws up plenty, but the entire time I stayed with him because I trusted him. And the heroine, Maggie, is smart and funny and...I was really frustrated by her continuous attempts to trust her ex, who'd proved himself unworthy a billion times over. But overall I loved her too, because she really deserved a happy ending. And I was so happy that's what she got.
The various side characters are all well done. They're dynamic, full characters who aren't just filler. I don't really like a book with a plethora of quirky characters in the cast, but sometimes a book surprises me by being good at that sort of thing instead of riddled with cliches and tiresome, cardboard ploys. In this book, it works.
I read the book in two days and I loved it.
I loved this book! It was a sweet and steamy romance between a girl and her bodyguard. The characters were well-developed and had great chemistry. The plot was fast-paced and full of twists and turns. The writing was engaging and descriptive. I couldn't put it down until I finished it. If you're looking for a fun and flirty read, this is the book for you!
This read was a total delight! What a fabulous debut for Megan Clawson. With history weaved throughout about the Tower of London, we follow Maggie and Freddie's love story. Maggie is a ticket person at the Tower of London and her encounter with Freddie changes everything. A heart-warming romance, this was a cute, memorable read. Highly recommend!
I would like to thank Netgalley and Avon for a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Falling Hard for the Royal Guard is a fun and unique royal romance. Written by someone who lives in the Tower of London herself, this book follows the story of Maggie and her romance with Royal Guard Freddie. If you are a fan of royal romances and looking for a new spin on them, pick up this book!
The author takes you behind the walls. literally, to a place few people can access. Descriptions abound. Some of the slang may be a bit of a challenge for American readers. The heroine is an endearing klutz. The hero is elusive in a stiff upper lip way. If you like British history, you will enjoy this debut book.
Margaret "Maggie" Moore is back living with her dad, a Beefeater at the Tower of London after ending her seven-year relationship with Bran. She's lonely and hates her job. When she literally bumps into a handsome man, she's instantly smitten but he's angry at her clumsiness. She brushes off and dismisses the incident until she sees the same man again…under vastly differing circumstances…!
Maggie is likeable but I also felt sorry for her. She's stuck in a rut and suffering the consequences of her previous actions. She finds solace in her surroundings; she's a history fanatic who has embraced where she lives.
The narrative is a blend of fascinating historical facts and an insight into the somewhat chaotic happenings in the otherwise mundane life of a woman searching for more than she currently has. Maggie's upbeat, but shows that even the strongest of women gets hurt when things go wrong.
In contrast, Freddie is aloof. The author hints at his background and character so we are grateful for the fun antics of the other guardsmen he is serving with and for them collectively embracing friendship with Maggie.
The tentative bond between Maggie and Freddie is slow as they develop a friendship based on mutual curiosity and interest. However, other shenanigans in Maggie's life at the Tower, tend to distract away from the blossoming attraction. Yet, the author's enthusiasm for the Tower of London is such, that a reader will want to turn the pages to discover more…
As a reader, I always love reading a book, where I can learn something new and Ms Clawson has written a delightful and fun novel brimming with history about the Tower of London with a sprinkle of romance and high jinks.
Overall, If you are intrigued by British Royalty, history, and romance, this is a book for you.

Set at the Tower of London!
Margaret (Maggie) Moore never planned to live at the Tower of London and work at the ticketing booth but accidently running into Freddie, one of the royal guardsmen might be changing that. Freddie and his friends teach Maggie how to step out of her comfort zone by forcing her to go on some dates. Dating makes her realize that there might be something more with Freddie but now when she finds out his secrets.
I loved the parts about the Tower of London but I really disliked Bran and Freddie’s friends and family but the ending made it better.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Megan Clawson’s debut novel Falling Hard for the Royal Guard is captivating and full of charm as she takes us into the Tower of London. It’s time to walk along those streets through sacred spaces, and explore London with fresh and witty dialogue rich in details. A delightfully fun adventure that transports you into the Tower of London, a place with hundreds of years of history, secrets etched in walls, and gossip that lingers long after you’ve left.
Maggie Moore is a bit clumsy, sometimes unable to articulate her thoughts, and even a bit anxious in her quest for love, acceptance, and hope. It’s hard to feel normal when you live in the Tower of London, your dad is a Beefeater, and you are reminded of your faults on a daily basis at work. What will happen when she runs into a mysterious man and can’t stop thinking about him? Who is he and why is he there? Can she avoid the security cameras and stay out of the daily gossip?
Freddie Guildford is a Royal Guard assigned to the tower and is expected to live by duty, honor, and obligations. When he runs into Maggie his plans are turned upside down. Will he find the courage to tell Maggie the truth before it’s too late?
Journey into a place rich in history with ghosts and charm as Maggie navigates living in the Tower of London, the people she meets, and the men she attempts to date on her question to find her own prince charming in a pond full of frogs.
This sweet romance has just enough sweetness to put a pink blush on your cheeks, and leave your heart full of joy. Thank you Harper 360, Harper Collins Publishing for this advance reader copy for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
Falling Hard for the Royal Guard by Megan Clawson
‘Stories only make sense when you stick around for the ending.’
~~~
This RomCom was SOO cute. I always love when the bodyguard gets the girl. Then there was the London setting that just made it all come together perfectly I thought; for this book. It’s hard to put into words. There was also the topic of a lost parent, and a toxic ex. So be cautious of certain topics if they alarm you.
Course I’m also doing this at 4 in the morning, but whatever. No spice, but some cuteness for relationships just starting out. I would absolutely recommend this for those just starting the RomCom phase, and just wanting something a little on the soft side.
Thank you Megan Clawson, Harper 360, and NetGalley for the eARC.
Freddie and Maggie meet at the tower of London where they both are at work. He is keeping a secret that will hurt her, so.do they have a future together? A great read.
I have been watching so many tiktok videos of people trying to make royal guard laugh it made me want to read this book so badly. it was so cute and interesting. Loved!
Falling Hard for the Royal Guard by Megan Clawson is a slow burn rom com. I’m not usually a fan of slow burns, but yet I loved this book. I loved all of the characters especially Maggie and Freddie. The history told in this book was amazing and actually contains quite a bit of history about the tower of London. I highly recommend this book and look forward to more from this author!
I want to thank NetGalley and Harper Collins Publishing for giving me an arc of this wonderful book!!!
I follow the author on TikTok and when she announced that she was writing a book, i knew that I had to read it!
When I was approved for this book, i literally screamed!
This book follows our main character, Maggie Moore, who lives in the Tower of London with her beefeater dad (just like the author in real life!) When one night after creepy safe duty, she literally slams into a man on her way home. This man is Freddie Guildford, and one hell of a heartwarming story follows!!
This is everything I have ever wanted in a romance novel! We have redheads (like myself!), cute soldiers, snark, witty banter and hilarious friends!
If you're a royal watcher, history buff, romcom lover, or just enjoy a charming, original, and humorous tale, Falling for the Royal Guard is a book I recommend adding to your reading list.
Did I want to toss Freddie into the Thames a few times? Yes, but there were also other times when I wanted to hug his sweet self. Did I think Maggie needed a good therapist? Also, yes but who wouldn't after what she'd been through? Was I tempted to sneak a foul substance into the tea cups of her boss and co-workers? Of course. Or wish a dreaded tropical disease on her jerk of an ex? Well, that goes without saying. But did I also adore Freddie's fellow guardsmen, Maggie's dad, the other wardens, and the raven woman? Yes, yes, yes, and yes. All of Clawson's characters are so well developed, flaws and all. It makes them realistic and relatable, people I can cheer - or jeer - with untethered enthusiasm (I did a lot of both). Did I root for Maggie and Freddie through the sweet and the sour? Yes, I did. Both had some growing to do, and challenges to overcome, before they could claim a happy ending but I never gave up on them. Through the laughter (and there was a lot of laughter), tears, poignant moments, sweetness, screwups (Oh, Freddie, how could you?), and unexpected resolution, I was right there nudging them on.
Just as important to this story as the characters was the setting. Who knew families actually live in the Tower of London? I didn't. The author of this novel however knows it well. The daughter of a Yeoman Warden (Beefeater), and girlfriend of a member of the Royal Guard, Megan Clawson lives in the Tower of London, just like Maggie. She walks the moat, talks to ghosts and ravens, and revels in the history of the Tower, also like Maggie. It lends an unassailable authenticity to her book and characters. It's no wonder that I could vividly picture each detail - haunted dungeons, hidden staircases, secret rooms, and more - in my mind as I read Clawson's descriptions on the page. And it pushed the Tower to the top of my must-see list when I travel to London for the first time later this year.
If you're looking for a charming story bubbling over with humor, history, British traditions, quirky characters, cringe-worthy Tinder dates, and hard-won happy endings, give this one a go. I enjoyed it.
First off I thought this book was really good for a debut author. I loved the setting of the Tower of London and all the facts we learn about it. The main character Maggie lives with her Beefeater dad and works and lives within the tower. She has had a bad breakup from a long term relationship and lost her Mom several years ago. I loved her friendship with the guards but I think Freddie should have told her about himself earlier in the book. This is a clean slow romance book. I will definitely read her next book
A good book for anglophiles. I loved the setting in the Tower of London. Lots of historical tidbits mixed into a light romance.
This was a fantastic fun and lovely read. I loved the romance and journey of self discovery. I also found the backdrop of the Tower of London a wonderful setting. The history and passion for the adventure is amazing. I loved hearing more stories and feeling like I’m living in the area. It was a fun and cute read. Would recommend,
This was new to me author! I enjoyed this sweet, fun romance. It was a slow burn with lots of history! I adored Maggie and Freddie! Maggie is a history buff who works at the Tower of London ticket booth. She’s a little clumsy too. She loves with her dad. They’ve moved a lot in their lives. Maggie also had an obsessed ex she’s avoiding! Freddie catches Maggie’s eye. Freddie has a secret and keeps disappearing when Maggie os feeling all kinds of cozy relaxed around him. He’s a guard. I love that Maggie has some awkward moments that are so relatable! I enjoyed these two as they fell in love! Such a great story!
This was really cute and overall I really enjoyed it. I thought the whole ending plot point was pretty predictable and I wasn’t super keen on the whole tinder dates thing. I loved Freddie and Maggie though. Absolutely lovely characters, both separate and as a couple. I can’t wait to read what she does next in this Tower of London world.
This was a cute rom-com that I would definitely recommend!
I received an e-ARC from the publisher.
Maggie lives in the Tower of London and she has a job there selling tickets. She hates the other employees so much. She meets a Beefeater that is very attractive.
This book gives a lot of British history that I didn't know about.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC and to the publisher Avon.
loved this romance and her trying to find love and finding herself. loved the friends and and the romance. I would read this author again. I really enjoyed the pacing and how the story and the character worked things out.
This is a sweet love story and I'm looking forward to more. This is very definitely a first novel (the appeal of the male MC is a little hard to see, tbh) but I am looking forward to more. The setting is one I've never seen before, and I would love more set here.
Falling Hard For The Royal Guard by Megan Clawson was such a fun read! This book is about Maggie who lives at home with her father who is a "beef eater" which I gathered from context clues means was part of the British military. Her home, by the way, is the Tower of London. She also works at the Tower as a ticket taker. Maggie has no work friends, feels stuck in her job, and her ex won't stop bothering her. She's gone onto to Tinder but encounters catfishes and disastrous dates. However, as Maggie is rushing someplace, she crashes into Freddie. It turns out Freddie is one of the Royal Guard. Eventually the two strike up a friendship that may just become something more.
I thought that Falling Hard For The Royal Guard was a sweet, light read. This is the perfect book for reading will out by the pool or sitting in the shade. I was transported to the Tower of London and just loved the setting aspect of this book. I did think Maggie as a character was a little over the top with her disastrous life. She absolutely does not have it together at all, has no friends, a terrible job, and is unlucky in love. However, Maggie is dynamic and soon her life does slowly begin to turn around and she gets friendly with the different royal guardsmen. Also, loved her with Freddie. The trope of friends to lovers is well done, even if at first they aren't really friends. Overall, if you want a contemporary romance that feels escapist, grab Megan Clawson's Falling Hard For The Royal Guard.
Love love love. This book was perfection. It was adorable and romantic. And was the kinda book I needed right now. I absolutely adored it!
Thank you very much for the opportunity to read this book early! I really enjoyed it. I thought the writing was very well done, and the story kept me interested. The whole story was just so cute and adorable. I believe my students/patrons would also love this book and will be acquiring it for the library!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an advanced copy of Falling Hard for the Royal Guard by Megan Clawson.
