Description
Deepest passion. Darkest betrayal.
Once, she was my world. The only one I loved. Then it was all ripped away—including my freedom.
Vengeance kept me alive. It paved every step, shaped every plot.
Until I finally caught her.
I learned that line between love and hate is wafer-thin. Where once my dreams were filled with revenge, now that I have her, all I think about is the intoxicating passion we once shared.
But there’s no turning back the events her capture has set into motion. It unravels a carefully constructed world, one where enemies surround me.
Everyone, that is, except her.
Now, we only have each other—and the love that once united us, to fight our way to long-buried truths that will change everything.
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Donna Grant returns to her captivating Elven Kingdoms series with a tale of second chances, love amidst chaos, and the healing power of forgiveness.

The Fae story continues, with an appearance of a Dragon King! Adventure, betrayal, secrets, amd lies all unfurl revealing truths no one could have guessed. Tense and addictive, and some secrets are resolved, while others remain. A satisfying HFN, with more to come ...
With non-stop action and tension as the plot is slowly revealed, Dark Heart is a roller-coaster ride from start to finish. Who are the good guys and who are the villains? Some are obvious but others less so. Who can Arya count on to assist her and who will turn against her? New villains are revealed and some who should be harming her seem to be offering assistance. But can she trust them? The Epilogue hints at things to come. I am eagerly looking forward to Donna Grant's next book in this series, Storm Wood.
This was a strong sequel in the Elven Kingdoms series, it had that element that I was looking for and enjoyed the overall feel of this world, Donna Grant has a great writing style and was hooked from the first page and enjoyed how it continued the story. It left me wanting to read more and was glad I got to read this.
Arya is being hunted along with her superior Dain. She is leaving a bar when she is kidnapped along with a human woman. When she awakes, she’s in a cage on a ship being taken to the Masters. She has a gold necklace around her neck that restricts her magic. The man who disappeared over four years ago, is the one to abduct her. Jai has been waiting for his revenge against Arya for years. Because of her, he believes is the reason he is enslaved to the Masters. But someone was working against him and he finally learns the real reason for his captivity. Arya escapes but barely and goes to Dain. Dain, Arya, Yasmine, and Ravi sneak into the Fort where the kidnapped elven are kept and try to free them. But they are unable to free them and must leave while they can.
Slow burn romance. Secrets. Betrayal. Second chance for love. Good story. I felt like I was right there with them. Can’t wait for the next one.

WOW, WOW, WOW Donna does it again with a captivating and sintulating installment to this series. I don't know why I ever doubt picking up a Donna Grant book as it never fails to dissapoint me and leave me salivating for more. Read this book and keep reading this book WOW, did I say WOW
I really enjoyed this book! It was a captivating read that held my attention from start to finish. The story was well-paced, and the characters felt real and engaging. I’m grateful to the publisher for providing an early copy—it was a pleasure to read!
I liked this! It's a new type of fantasy world and it's a really interesting plot. The characters are well developed enough that you are interested in them as well as what's going on.
SPORTOCHICK’S MUSINGS: I couldn’t imagine that this series could get any better than the first book but oh I am so excited to say that it did in book two! Author Donna Grant’s combination of fantastical creatures, evilness, and tormented love makes this a thrilling adventure.
Dark Heart by Donna Grant is an amazing second book to the Elven Kingdoms where a hidden community of evil doers that was partially exposed in book one continues its unnatural devious schemes by increased trafficking of elves and humans to another secret location. Some elves from the seven races of elves who wouldn’t normally communicate continue to band together with humans to save their world from this unprecedented evil.
Previous elves, Dark Elves Dain and Arya, Sun Elves Savita, Esha with her Dragon King partner Kendrick, Ravi with his human partner Yasmin and newbie Dark Elves Jai and his childhood friend Priya appear in this book. Oh let’s not forget the evil ones Moon Elf Gita and One a Star Elf. Don’t let this cast of characters confuse you. The author puts together a great list in the front of the book explaining the Seven Kingdoms and their elven traits along with a map.
I couldn’t imagine that this series could get any better than the first book but oh I am so excited to say that it did in book two!
What I love about this book is that the action starts within a few paragraphs of the book and the author catapults the reader into the meat of the storyline quickly before she starts to weave a deeper web for the reader. The combination of fantastical creatures, evilness, and tormented love makes this a thrilling adventure.
There was never a moment that I got bored but I have to admit I lost sleep reading this book because I started reading it late at night and stayed up till I finished the whole book.
The love-hate relationship between lead characters Arya and Jai was portrayed as believable as was Priya’s love for Jai and hate for Arya. One of the best qualities of author Donna Grant's writing is her ability to create and portray characters that continually enthrall the reader.
The author's descriptions of the area around the characters and the events taking place takes this reader right into the pages of the book making me feel like all of this is happening to me. I really want to know who the people are above Gita and One. They must be very, very bad as Gita is not anyone I’d want to get close to with all her evilness.
With great disappointed that we didn’t find out more about these higher ranking evil doers I have to admit that I loved this book and am anticipating book three to the series.
Not to be remiss but I really recommend that you read “Rising Sun” book one of the Elven Kingdoms to get the full flavor of this series.
Love these elves. Lots of action and edge of your seat reading. This is Jia and Arya’s story. When Arya comes up missing it’s up to her team to find her. Jai has hated her for years or is it hate? Cannot wait for the next one!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you for allowing me to review
Loved reading the mesmerizing and spellbinding second book in the Elven Kingdoms series. While Anya is missing Jai, she is captured by non other than Jai who is seeking revenge and plans to sell her to the Masters. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written full of mystery, intrigue, and captivating character, and a must read riveting story. Can't wait to read the next story in the series by the phenomenally awesome and amazing author, Donna Grant!
I fell into this story and could not get enough. Such world building and characters to capture your interest. I loved how Arya managed each situation she found herself in. "One" is an interesting character. Leaves you wondering just what he's up to. Reva also got my curiosity roused. I look forward to the next book in the series to find out what happens next.
Donna Grant’s *Dark Heart* is the second installment in her *Elven Kingdoms* series, and if you thought she couldn’t possibly top the first book, think again. *Dark Heart* is a masterclass in world-building, character complexity, and storytelling that will have you hanging on for dear life, praying your heart doesn’t get ripped out in the process. Spoiler alert: it might. But that’s why we love her, isn’t it?
In this dark, seriously dark sequel, we’re plunged headfirst into a plot so twisted, with villains so sinister they make Darth Vader look like a choirboy. These antagonists are so devoid of light, they probably have coal for hearts. And the betrayals? Let’s just say they’re deep enough to scar even the sturdiest stone. Grant doesn’t shy away from putting her characters through the wringer, and it’s in these trials that we truly see her skill as a storyteller. With every chapter, just when you think you’ve got a handle on the plot, she flips the script again. Prepare for whiplash, because *Dark Heart* will have you spinning like you’re caught in a tempest of emotions and unexpected twists.
As always, Grant’s world is lush, immersive, and dangerously addictive. The line between good and bad becomes deliciously blurred as we follow Arya and Jai, two characters who are fighting tooth and nail for their happiness. But the cards they’ve been dealt? Let’s just say it’s like playing poker with a stacked deck — and this game is far from over. You’ll be on the edge of your seat, wondering if these two can ever find the peace they deserve, or if the fates have conspired against them in a way that will leave them shattered.
And just when you think the ride might slow down, Grant hits you with a cliffhanger that’ll make you yell, “No, she didn’t!” It’s the kind of ending that will leave you impatiently tapping your fingers, waiting — no, *begging* — for the next installment.
If you’re looking for a paranormal series that combines heart-pounding action, intricate plotting, and enough emotional turmoil to make even the toughest readers tear up, *Dark Heart* delivers in spades. Grant has once again proven that she’s a force to be reckoned with in the realm of fantasy romance.
So yes, Ms. Grant, I’m ready for what’s to come — though I’m not sure I’ll be emotionally prepared for the wild ride you’re about to take us on next.
I love all things Donna Grant. It is amazing that she can write 50+ books, for 8+ series and not get stale. This is the second ok in this series and it starts off with a bang. There are no slow spots in this book. There is adventure, betrayal, secrets, and romance. The lies all untangle to reveal truths no one saw coming. Top all of that off with an appearance from a Dragon King? Perfection. Please more. And quickly.
