Description
Learn about inspiring story of Patrick Mahomes! The legendary American footballer and MVP who grew up dreaming of being a baseball player.
Little Patrick grew up in Texas. His dad was a legendary baseball player and he dreamt of following in his footsteps. As a child, he excelled at all sorts of sports: from baseball to basketball to ping-pong, but it was American football which captured his heart. In college, he dedicated himself to building his skills and strength on the field. His hard work soon paid off when he was asked to join the Kansas City Chiefs. Just two years later he won his first super bowl ring! The next few years bought two more Superbowl victories as well as some losses. But whether he wins or loses, Patrick knows that the most important thing is being a good teammate and a strong leader.
Alongside his football career, he is a dedicated husband and father. He is passionate about improving the lives of children and through his foundation, 15 and the Mahomies, supports a range of charitable causes.
A sporting legend who is loved by all, Patrick’s achievements reflect his tenacity, drive and belief in himself.
This powerful book features quirky illustrations and extra facts at the back, including a biographical timeline with historical photos and a detailed profile of the American footballer's life.

.This a short kids biography of Patrick Mahomes. I enjoyed the biography and learned interesting things about this three-time Super Bowl champion quarterback and MVP. The illustrations were nice and the writing was simple enough for an elementary student to understand. I would recommend this book to any Patrick Mahomes fan with kids.
Another fun, adorable little biography for very young readers from the Little People, Big Dreams series. The writing and pictures are perfect for small children, who can learn about this popular football player and how hard he worked for his success. Mahones also had a supportive family who cheered him on the whole way. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this.
Once upon a time, Patrick Mahomes dreamed of being a baseball star. His father was a professional pitcher, so that's probably natural. Well, he became a star, just not in baseball. Although he was an all-around talent in several sports, eventually football won Mahomes' heart. The Kansas City Chiefs and fans are glad he made that decision.
While I know Mahomes name and face from his football highlights, and there are many, I realized I knew nothing about him as a person. Well, I did recall a wife and child but that was about it. So, this book taught me a few things, too, even though aimed at children. As it turns out, Mahomes comes from a divorced family and was largely raised by his mother. His athletic skills carried him through high school and on to college where he eventually settled on football as his primary sport. Several Super Bowl appearances and championship titles later, the world knows his name.
While I rather wished this book had focused more on the person of Patrick Mahomes and not quite so much on his football status, it does give us a glimpse into what formed him. Even as a casual football fan it's seemed to me that he's relatively humble, taking neither his success for granted or himself, for that matter. Those aspects are definitely well earned and a reminder to the youngest wannabe sports star that responsibility comes with success, too.
The illustrations are simple yet effective with lots of Kansas City Chief colors, I might add. That said, they also show him with his family, both his parents and his own. Readers can take inspiration from him and come to see that talent isn't the only thing required to be a success. You have to be smart enough to take advantage of that talent without losing track of what's important. Mahomes seems to grasp that idea, making him someone to not just idolize but try to emulate, both as an athlete and person,. Thanks @QuartoPublishingGroup - #FrancesLincolnChildren'sBooks for this early peek into the life and times of a talented, well-rounded, and well-grounded young man. I'm sure we will hear more about him in the future.
My son is a HUGE Patrick Mahomes and KC fan. He's 12, so he is older than the demographic to read this book (6-8 yrs). I thought since he is a major fan that this would be something nice for him to have. I had him read it and it still has entertained for a quick read. I too read it, and it's cute! IT's also informative and engaging if you have little ones that are football/ sports fans. The illustrations are clean and nice to look at. I love this little book and im glad I got it!
I didn’t know much about Patrick before, ahem, Taylor Swift introduced me to the NFL, but the more I’ve learned the more I am so impressed by him and his life. This book truly captures the heart of Patrick’s story and is so full of encouragement and motivation to keep pushing for your dreams. Another wonderful addition to my family’s favorite book series!
This is another cute and inspiring instalment of the Little People, Big Dreams series. The colourful illustrations - especially those of Patrick trying out different sports as a child - are memorable and fabulous! Was it even better because I’m a recent convert to being a Chief’s fan because of Taylor Swift’s boyfriend? Maybe :)
Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to view a digital copy for review consideration.
This book was so fun! I have a group of super football fanatic second graders, and they will be so excited for this! I have multiple books in this series in my classroom biography section, and they're popular with my students!
Patrick Mahomes by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara is a wonderful children’s biography that showcases the life and achievements of the NFL superstar. It beautifully captures Mahomes’ journey from a sports-loving kid in Texas to becoming a record-breaking quarterback and inspiring leader. The vibrant illustrations and simple, empowering narrative make it accessible and engaging for young readers. This book not only celebrates Mahomes’ athletic talent but also highlights his character, perseverance, and philanthropy. It’s a must-read for young sports enthusiasts and aspiring dreamers alike!
Really lovely, as most books in this series. Love the illustrations and the language for children. Great stuff. Will definitely be buying for Christmas gifts.
I really appreciated this entry into the Little People, Big Dreams series! It covers Patrick Mahomes, an NFL player from Texas. I was not at all familiar with Patrick's story. This was a great little biography that focused on his sports success & charitable causes. I think it would be a great read for kiddos who are interested in sports!
Thanks to NetGalley, Quarto Publishing, and Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara for the chance to read and review. My opinions are my own!
I know y'all are probably annoyed by hearing the same thing about this series but I just can't say anything bad about the Little People, BIG Dreams series!!! I really hope that this series is able to continue for a long, long time and cover many, many peoples' stories. Everything about this book was perfect: the illustrations, the organization, the writing, the information, EVERYTHING! This book is going to inspire so many kids.
Bravo, bravo, bravo!!!
Big, big thank you to Maria Isabel Sanchez Vergara, the author, Guilherme Karsten, the illustrator, Frances Lincoln Children's Books, and NetGalley for the privilege of being able to read this installment of the Little People, Big Dreams series focused on Super Bowl Champion, Patrick Mahomes. I will share my review to Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Goodreads upon release. I really love this series, and the illustrations are always so great. The illustrations in this one are no exception. The pictures are very dynamic and engaging, much like the character of Mahomes. Many kids look up to him as a role model because of his prowess on the field and his personality off the field, and I have a feeling this little book will be a hit with kids who like football and Chiefs fans. The story of Mahomes' life as a young baseball player who fell in love with playing football is a great example to show children that following your strengths and passions can take you to the moon. At the end, there is a more detailed biographical story with some real-life pictures to help add more context. I think parents and children will be able to have good discussions when reading through the book. There are good lessons to be learned in his story, and I appreciate the author and the Little People, Big Dreams series for sharing them in an age-appropriate and adorable way! Thanks again.
Maria Isabel Sánchez Vegara does it again with “Patrick Mahomes”! This book tells Mahomes' inspiring journey—from his childhood love of sports to becoming an NFL star, his charity work, and strong family bond. It's a heartwarming read that shows kids how passion, hard work, and big dreams lead to success. The “Little People, BIG DREAMS” series excels at making iconic lives relatable. Full of energy and positivity, “Patrick Mahomes” is perfect for any young reader seeking motivation and a reminder that anything is possible with determination. A must-have for every bookshelf!
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the authors for providing me with an advance copy to read!
This book is adorable and actually tells some interesting stories about Patrick Mahomes life. I had no idea that his dad was a baseball player. Shows a good example of resiliency towards the end.
Thank you NetGalley, Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara and Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books for this ARC.
I love seeing a Little People, Big Dreams new release! To be honest, my football knowledge is fairly brief so this installment about Patrick Mahomes was mostly new information. I appreciate that these books never skip over tough times (ex: the divorce of his parents). Young readers could feel a connection to celebrities who have experienced the same sorts of things. The illustrations are cute, as always, and the page count is perfect for young readers.
Thanks to Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books and NetGalley for an eARC of this book for an honest review.
This book is adorable! A great story for any kid, but especially a sports fan! The illustrations are wonderful and it tells the story in a way that gives the information but isn’t too focused on details that little kids can’t follow it. I really enjoyed this book - I also think it’s the perfect length to read for kids!
Patrick Mahomes, by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara, is another children’s biography by Little People, BIG DREAMS. Illustrated by Guilherme Karsten, the biography features bright images from Mahomes’ life. This book features information from his childhood, interests in sports and athletics in his teenage years, his time at Texas Tech University, his time playing American football, his charitable work, and his family life. This is a fantastic book for all those who love American football, teaching them about the world’s greatest quarterback.
Wonderful illustrations! A fun and engaging book for kids of all ages. My son is a big football fan and was really excited to hear Mahomes story!
I love this series and this was no different! Really enjoyed learning more about Patrick Mahomes and think this is a perfect book for a little sports fan! Great examples of different things he did and tried out, and lovely art style!
Another great little people, big dreams book. The only thing I knew about Patrick Mahomes before reading this book was that he played for the Kansas City Chiefs and played with Taylor Swift's boyfriend. My son enjoyed reading this one with me.
Thank you so much to NetGalley, Quarto Publishing and the author for providing me with an advanced reader copy fo review purposes!
I have a little nephew, so naturally, I'm on a quest to find interesting books to gift him. I've been looking at the Little people, Big dreams series for a while now, so I'm happy I got the opportunity to review a few of them.
This a short biography of Patrick Mahomes, quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs and NFL golden boy. It covers all the bases of his journey, and it offers interesting facts.
If you have a kid in your family that enjoys football, or is a sports enthusiast, this would make a great gift. Little people, big dreams never disappoints!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
I love that this series also introduce us to young people that have achieved amazing things and we can still cheer and follow them.
I know little about American Football so it was great to discover Patrick Mahomes. He is doing such an amazing job!
Thank you for the opportunity!
I love the Little People, Big Dreams series and I thought this book made the perfect addition. I hadn't heard of Patrick Mahomes before reading this and I liked that this gave a clear, concise and interesting of his life and career. As always I like that the author chooses to focus on the attributions that make these people successful, in this case his determination and ability to excel in a team. I thought the illustrations were adorable and really complimented the story. Additionally I like that there is a biography, photo gallery and book recommendations in the back for older readers.
Overall I love this series and this book was no exception!
My five year old son LOVED this book!!! We have read it many many nights before bed and he just loves it. It was wonderfully done and so intriguing for kids to learn. Highly recommend for boys who love football!
Once again, this was another great book from the Little People, Big Dreams series! I didn't know much about Patrick Mahomes before reading this however, I feel the concept of these books is great so you don't necessarily need to even know of the person beforehand to enjoy - the stories are inspirational regardless. It's a great way of educating children and showing them that anything is possible!
A short biography, perfect for young readers. Describes how Patrick tried many sports before setting his sights on being one of the best quarterbacks in The NFL. Great message of setting and achieving goals!
Patrick loved many sports and learned that teamwork and sportsmanship were the most important. After college he went professional with the Kansas City football team and was very successful. But he is proudest of his family and of the Foundation for children that he is responsible for.
The illustrations by Guillherme Karsten are simple, colorful, and expressive.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to everyone, but especially to a school or your local public library!
