I really enjoyed the book, it has everything I love in a novel from start to finish. I can’t wait to read what the author has planned next!
My favorite book in the series. Two lost souls. Christmas. Neither is looking for love, but each needs someone to love. Sparks fly. Love wins.
I've read this book roughly 5 times since getting it from Netgalley! A well developed, sexy romp.
Sweet and timely, Her Christmas Cowboy features Lane Scott, double amputee and Marine and Felicity Danvers who I simply don't remember showing up before. I've read the other Scott Brothers books but had to go back and do some checking to help me remember who was who.
I like Lane, though like with other veterans in Marietta, he seems to have a bit of a charmed existence with his issues. Stepping on an IED cost him both legs from the knee on down and some serious scarring now covered with a tattoo. He's got some seriously awesome prosthetics and more than one set, I might add. I'd have liked to learn more about them. That sounded to me like something that could really have been a big part of the story. Instead, he gets them adjusted slightly once and the rest of the time seems to have almost no problems. He and Felicity take a couple of tumbles and he does like to remove them in the evenings. From what I, admittedly barely, know about prosthetics, I'd want to remove them too. I did like the small detail about his kitchen counters having been lowered. But I wanted more detail about the impacts on his life and mostly what I got was how it didn't impact him all that much.
Most of Lane's issues seem to focus on survivor's guilt but that isn't really addressed in the book. Instead he just struggles. I feel like that was another missed opportunity. Especially in light of his travel to give speeches, it might have been nice to also talk about him getting professional help (which I don't think he did but he probably should have).
Felicity has been crushing on Lane since high school so when he asks her out she's surprised and has stars in her eyes. I liked how Felicity took the situation in stride, even making mistakes that most people unfamiliar with it all would make. She seemed the more real of the two. I liked her insecurities and how that made her struggle with Lane's interest in her.
In the end, they both understood that being themselves with all the difficulties and goodness that entails was just the way to go. It's a sweet story that missed a couple opportunities to be even better.
