good recipes! Tried two weeks worth before I decided I needed a physical copy! Thank you for this new dinner party wow factor!
A really great cookbook! This is one of the best paleo-type recipe books I’ve ever seen. It should be very popular in our collection, people are always looking for diet/recipe books that address issues like this.
Today there are so many people who have to avoid certain foods for health reasons. While I am not allergic to any, I have eliminated gluten (and soy when possible) to help my body heal.
The challenge is finding ways to have things you enjoy that do not have all those allergens in them!
Diana shares a wonderful variety of recipes that replace the familiar favorites. I'm slowly trying new ones from this book in the hopes of finding things my whole family will enjoy. If not, I'll be tickled to have a few things I can eat when they eat the 'original' versions (e.g. donuts!)
I enjoyed this book. I liked how the book was organized and the author's voice was refreshing. The ingredients are things I can find easily in my local supermarket or find in my pantry. The directions are easy to follow and the final pictures of the food prepared are mouthwatering. I also loved that she provided the nutritional information for recipes that allows me to easily keep track of what I'm eating when I make one of her recipes. I definitely look forward to trying the recipes in this book. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book from NetGalley.
Recipes featured are without grains , dairy , soy and cane sugar...From the authors blog......
On occasion, I like to check out recipe books. Sometimes it's fun to try something new. The Recipe Hacker Confidential is more than just the standard cookbook. It's a means to hack the traditional recipes we've grown up with and turn them into something we can still use and love. Several of my friends and family are on special diets from the Whole 30 to diets specific to a diagnoses, like diabetes or high cholesterol.
While the recipes look good on paper, I can't attest to their taste. Since reading through the book, I've purchased almond flour (a common ingredient throughout). I'm hoping to find a moment and give one of these recipes a try. If it's anything like my tofu enchilada casserole, we shouldn't really notice a difference. And if you're wondering why I used tofu, let me explain. I'd taken a nutrition class in college. One of the assignments was to take a recipe and make it healthy, or at least a little more healthy that the traditional dish. I learned that if I froze a block of tofu, thawed it, froze it once more, I could then chopped it up into pieces and the consistency/texture would be a lot like chicken. For me, that's a big thing. I can't get past the slimy texture of tomatoes, so I avoid them unless they are buried deep where I won't notice them.
I chopped up the tofu and basically made chicken enchilada casserole, but with tofu as the substitute. I also used a lower calorie cheese, sauce, etc. The results? A delicious meal that even my father, the pickiest eater in our family, didn't even notice. He really thought he was eating chicken because the tofu was so good at soaking in all of the flavors and sauce of the casserole.
I'm basically hoping the recipes in this book will turn out the same. But I need to try at least one. For now, I'll give this a good review, because the recipes are clever in their substitutions. But again, I can't say anything about the taste. To be continued...
Great book, with fantastic photos and lots and lots of fun delicious sounding recipes. These are the recipes that I would love to make up for brunch with the girlfriends, or for some little adult tea parties. I've actually tried a few of the recipes and they received great feedback from adults and children as well. Loved browsing through this book and looking at the photos and just reading through.
My Daughter has PCOS and needs to eat a healthy diet to help control her symptoms. We all need to eat more healthy as well and this book will make that easier with the yummy recipes. The pictures will have you drooling and your tummy monster growling. I liked that it was full of informative tips, these tips may be basic to some people but still very helpful. We can all use a refresher course now and then.
Not what I was expecting. I was thinking something along the lines of how , say, grits, was made at Cracker Barrel. Oops. This book has lots of recipes about eating healthy, which some people will find appealing, or even necessary. (I have nothing against eating healthy, I try, too, but this isn't what I had in mind.)
This book for me was really interesting and knowledgeable as I have Rheumatoid arthritis and have been considering making changes to my diet for a while to see if it will help.
Diana has so much passion for her books and you can see this by how much depth and information she provides for each and every page.

What i love about this book its not just recipe.
Diana has written so much great information it's more than just a cook book.
It takes you on a learning journey of discovery of food.
Educating about new foods and foods that you can still enjoy if you change the process and ingredients.
For example using Coconut oil instead.
If you have a health condition or allergies or are thinking of changing the way you eat then this book is perfect.
It's not about the next fad diet craze this is about changing the way you perceive food and learning to enjoy food again by making simple changes.
You might not be up for making the complete change and that's ok too but know there are some delicious recipes that everyone can enjoy and benefit from.
I am constantly trying to eat healthy and be healthy. I am a fan of Skinnytaste and Hungry Girl and have their cookbooks. I must say I have never embraced the concept of grain/soy/dairy free and this cookbook has opened my eyes! Well written and the recipes seem easy to follow. I look forward to making many new items from this cookbook.
I'd like to thank Netgalley & BenBella Books. I received a copy of this cookbook in exchange for an honest review.
Since I live a soy free, nut free and gluten free life, it can sometimes be a challenge to prep meals or find recipes that can accommodate our food restrictions/allergies.
As soon as I saw this book, I was intrigued and knew I wanted to get my hands on it.
To be honest, I usually skim through the introduction. Sometimes I don't even bother reading it and jump right into the recipes. However, this was one of the few cookbooks where I actually took an interest to the author and read the intro. I love that Diana is an everyday mom like myself. She's not a health freak, doctor or someone with a list of nutrition degrees. She's just a regular person who happens to know and appreciate good food. I'm a foodie, so delicious meals and desserts are a must which can be tough when it comes to gluten-free goodies. I've come across quite a few unsuccessful gluten-free recipes lately, so this book was perfect! Since I also happen to have a 4 year old who's a picky eater, he was the perfect person to put these recipes to the test.
The best part about this book is that the recipes are very easy to follow. No training necessary. Even my 10 year old can do it!
Some favourites were:
• Crab Cake Eggs Benedict
• Double Chocolate Zucchini Muffins
• 3 Ingredient Pancakes
•Garlic Herb Chicken Tenders
•Crispy Fish
•Vanilla Pudding
Whether you have food allergies like me, or you're looking to make a healthier change in your diet, I would recommend checking out this book!
Too abrasive for me. (2 stars)
I wasn't going to review this book... and then I saw how many people were giving it 5 star reviews and decided someone should be the bad guy. Because holy Cuisinart did this author's "voice" rub me the wrong way.
I'm always interested in ways to make recipes more nutritious, more sustainable, and just plain interesting. Which was why I thought this book would be great. Instead within the first 6 pages she managed to claim to not be perfect and then turn around and get painfully preachy. Her attitude just comes across as if there are only two ways people eat, bad and good. No inbetween. It's unrealistic and if you're someone who isn't already living a lifestyle that has no grain, gluten, dairy, soy, or sugar you may find it abrasive.
The recipes themselves look creative and delicious but each has a tip and an introduction that at times continues the preachy stuff.
I tried to make it through for the sake of finding some recipes to add to my rotation but just couldn't get past the author's black and white way of writing. Unless that kinda thing doesn't bug you (which clearly is the majority of reviewers) I'd say skip this one.
A colorful cookbook filled with quick recipes that don't skip on the flavor. From snacks, to sides, to complete meals this is great for those looking to cut down on time spent in the kitchen.
This is a great introduction for people wanting to eat healthily and cut certain foods out of their diets. I'd say if you know a bit about the subject then the information sections might be a bit basic, but there are some nice recipes in here and it's a great way to learn more about clean eating.
I have tried a few of the recipes so far and really enjoyed them. The breakfast recipes are mostly great, as I'm always struggling for healthy breakfast ideas (particularly those I can make in advance and pick up just before I head to the gym in the morning) and the desserts/ sweet courses shone out at me, which is unusual as I'm usually more of a savoury person!
Some of the main meal recipes are a little uninspiring - I didn't see a huge number of exciting combinations, to be honest - but there's plenty here to keep you going, and lots of ideas that are relatively easy to try so don't require a horrendous amount of bizarre ingredients (though this probably depends on your level of cooking so far).
Worth a read!
This book is great if you're just starting out on your wellness and free-from journey. But if like me you've been a vegetarian for a while an diagnosed with Celiac over 4 years ago you'll find that you've known versions of most of the recipes for a while now. Would like to see more vegetarian options in there too!
Otherwise a great start if you're just embarking on your journey to a healthier you
This cookbook is fantastic for people who need to eat a special diet without sacrificing favorite treats and flavors. I really liked the breakfast pizza, the chocolate donuts, and the everything crackers. The ingredient lists may appear long but they are typical gluten free/paleo items. The instructions were easy to follow and not too many steps to confuse the novice.
The Recipe Hacker Confidential by Diane Keuilian is full of recipes without grain, soy, dairy, gluten, or cane sugar. I nor my husband have any food allergies, but this cookbook would be very helpful to those that do. I found many of the recipes way to far out of my husband's comfort zone. I loved the baked plantain chips. I have also marked several other recipes that I would make for myself. I do look forward to trying out some of the recipes on family/friends. While it may not be one of my most used cookbooks, it is definitely one that I will keep and use.
I was excited about the opportunity to receive a copy of The Recipe Hacker Confidential. I was not familiar with author Diane Keuilian, but I have been interested in paleo recipes for quite awhile. There are many children in my community with food allergies, and it seems like gluten and/or dairy allergies are just as common as peanut allergies. There is ample evidence of the benefits of avoiding gluten, dairy, soy, and sugar- even if there are no allergies to consider.
This book has a wide variety of recipes that will appeal to busy families. I like that the recipes are kid-friendly, and I also like that the recipes contain ingredients that are easy to find and easy to prepare. This is much better than another cookbook that I read that contained recipes that were sweetened with a date paste that the cook had to prepare in advance. The recipes in The Recipe Hacker Confidential use maple syrup and honey, as well as organic stevia.
One thing that I did not like was the author’s tone. She’s very witty, but at times, it seems a bit abrasive. I understand that she’s passionate about the subject, but it’s a bit harsh to tell parents that they are poisoning their children with Tollhouse cookies. You can catch more flies with honey (a natural sweetener) than with vinegar, so perhaps it would have been better to accentuate the benefits of eschewing sugar rather than resorting to scare tactics.
I would recommend The Recipe Hacker Confidential to others because of the delicious recipes. I am pleased to have discovered Diane Keuilian, and I am looking forward to following her website in search of new recipes.
