There was a lot of sex in this book. It nearly took on a book of it’s own.
I liked that there were two stories being wrapped in this book. Sophia and Colin as well as Lucifer. It was a good book - like all the Vampire in America books.
This one wasn't bad....but it wasn't great either. I was surprised that the author did the whole past lovers thing again, even if one of them was human back then and isn't now. So that kind of seemed like a repeat.
I liked Lucifer for the most part. I wasn't swooning for him at all, but generally I liked him. The only thing that really ticked me off about him was how we were constantly being told how powerful he is and how some day he would be a territory lord. Like, who the heck do you think you're going to kill dude!? I get it. You're strong. Can we move on now?
Eleanor didn't make too much of an impression on me. But I'm happy to say that I didn't hate the female lead for once in this series. She wasn't stupid and arrogant like the others have been. She knew she was a good fighter, but she also knew when she needed to step back and let Lucifer handle things.
So. As we know, Colin has been kidnapped and Sophia needs outside help to find him because she can't trust her own people. From the start, we learn just how horribly he is being tortured only to be healed to be tortured again. It's bad. Really bad. And Sophia gets almost daily updates of it in an attempt to weaken her. Fortunately, she knows this. And while it pains her immensely, she knows she can't be the one to save him. She has to remain and protect her territory from the current European who has set their eyes on her position. That's where Lucifer comes in. As his lord, Aden knows just how good he is at hunting missing things down. Plus, he figures if Lucifer finds Colin, Sophia will owe him one.
Sophia doesn't trust an outside vampire with as much power as Lucifer has running around her territory left unchecked, so she sends her bodyguard with him to keep him in line. What neither expected was to be doing this mission together. Hell, Lucifer thought Eleanor was dead. These two fell in love around 20 years ago when Eleanor was still human. But when Eleanor is turned against her will, she runs. I get her reasoning, especially after what Lucifer had told her, so I didn't get how he was so dense about it. Turns out, that love never died for either of them. And now they have to figure out a way to work together to save Colin while fighting these reemerging feelings.
It really doesn't take long for Lucifer to find out where Colin is being held. He really is good at what he does and he has no qualms about using his vampire gifts to get what he needs. So it was kind of annoying how Eleanor got all bent out of shape so often when he did. What really got to me was how these two would rather be having sex than saving Colin. Um, hello!? Did you forget why you're really there?? Finally they manage to save him, but it's not without a fight. In the end Lucifer not only disposes of a couple of Sophia's enemies, he also cleans house a bit before taking Colin back to her.
Even though Colin is home, they're not safe quite yet. The European still needs to be dealt with and he also comes with a surprise. Sophia's fight against him wasn't too bad. And it turns out there was another traitor close to her, one I definitely didn't suspect.
In the end, what Sophia decides to do with Lucifer was predictable but also understandable. I just don't know how much I really liked it. Considering they're practically strangers, it just doesn't seem quite right. Especially compared to all the others.
Now it's time to take the fight to the Europeans.
This book can be read as a stand alone title, but it is better to read the series in order.
What can I say??????
Anyone who has read this series knows how good this author is.
Love these books and I impatiently wait for the next one.
Lord Sophia has a problem that can only be solved by outside sources.
Someone has betrayed her and taken her mate Colin prisoner in order to weaken her and try to steal her territory.
Lucifer belongs to Lord Aden and is an excellent tracker.
This mission is important to Lucifer, if he succeeds in finding Colin it will give him recognition with the other Lords. He has enough power to be a Lord himself one day, maybe sooner rather than later.
Eleanor is the personal bodyguard to Lord Sophia, one of the very few Sophia trusts implicitly. Eleanor is needed to team up with Lucifer in order to save Colin. It just so happens Lucifer was once her mate when she was a human.
Finding Eleanor alive and and well Lucifer is elated, heartbroken, and totally pissed the !!!! Off. If she's alive then she left him to believe otherwise all these years. The one and only woman he has ever loved.
Lucifer is another great addition to the Vampires of America series and one I am sure readers will love.

Lucifer is bit different that the other books in the series. Lucifer is not a Vampire Lord, though I suspect it is in his destiny to become one.
Lord Sophia's mate Colin has been kidnapped and sends out for help when isn't sure who she can trust among her group. Lord Aden sends Lucifer because of his special powers. Sophia isn't sure she can trust him and sends her bodyguard Eleanor to work with Lucifer. They have a past when she was human. Lucifer believed her to be dead and when he sees her he just can't believe his eyes and just wants to hold on to her. Eleanor had her reasons for letting him believe she had died. She tries to resist Lucifer but their love will prove to be stronger than her fears.
This VIA series just keeps getting better and better.
DNR... Opted not to review. A note has been left for the Publisher.
Another solid installment to the Vampires in America series. This gives us some forward progression to the overall story arc while introducing us to a new couple.
Sophia needs help locating her mate, Colin. After a meeting of the vampire lords, Lucifer is put in charge of the mission to save Colin. Of course, his long lost love, Eleanor, is now in service to Sophia and assigned to help him. Que plot, sex, sex, plot.
This really gives the best of both as there's an intriguing, sometime gruesome, storyline and lots of steamy romps along the way.
Deducted a point as I wasn't terribly excited about Lucifer and his eagerness to headfuck vamps & humans alike.

Now this is a series I could get behind. A story with great character development. Lucifer the #11 title in Vampire In America: Vampire Wars series wasn't too slow, nor to fast. It flowed flawlessly.
I do want to point out that the main storyline in Lucifer, However, might make you want to visit Sophia story to see how she became who she is. But this reviewer enjoyed Lucifer so much that I am going to start from the beginning and reread Lucifer again. This book was that good.
I'll have to whisper this really sottovoce: but I didn't enjoy reading Lucifer. I know, I know, I risk my VIA card... and yet Lucifer wasn't for me.
Here are my nits:
-God, there is something called "too much sex"... I know, I know, don't shoot me. But there can't be a longish sex scene every few pages. It does get boring after a while, above all in this context. (UF themed plot). They had sex every time they woke up, every time they went to be. zzz.. But the real problem was that the focus on sex was along a plot that sees the kidnapping and torturing of one of the main characters in this series. Not everyone will agree, but it sounded absurd to me. And made me think negative thoughts on both leads (and the story).
-I felt like a ballon fizzled in my face. We are offered a lead up to an angst moment that never arrived.
- Their backstory was interesting, but at the same time wasn't strong enough to made me fully believe in their love story. Ergo the sex was even less acceptable...
-I never loved Sophia. But I think her portrait here was even less positive. She wavered from a "poor me" victim to a fake lord. I never felt her power. I don't see how she could be a Lord even when she addressed her faults/mistakes. (Except Cyn, I still think the author is missing a lot not giving real strength to her heroines.)
-And this brings me to the last nit: Ellie. She's not coherently characterized in my very stupid opinion. She's strong, but not really. She's never a peer to Lucifer. Pity. Yes, I understand she's younger, but her "power" was there and mostly underutilized.
This book ends in my ok pile at the end, as I was never particularly thrilled to keep reading. :'(
