My 9 year old enjoyed being able to pick recipes out of a cookbook that he knew was tailored to fit his abilities and tastes. Great starter, or builder book for kitchen knowledge.

A great cookbook for young cooks! There is a wide range of recipes of different skill levels that kids of various cooking abilities can try. Baking Class is recommended for ages 8-12, but my 2 year old (with my supervision obviously) was able to help me with some of the simplest recipes and loved it!

Baking Class is a great way to build opportunities for parents and children to bond together while making delicious treats. With older, middle school aged children, parents may even be able to kick up their feet and have a treat prepared for them!

With the excess amounts of convenience products available at grocery stores, fewer adults are cooking, which means that there are many households where kids aren’t being taught cooking skills. Fortunately, there are some good books available to help. Deanna F. Cook has released an excellent cookbook, Baking Class: 50 Fun Recipes Kids Will Love to Bake!, for children ages 8-12, which teaches baking skills. Aside from the kid-friendly recipes, the book also features sections on Kitchen Rules, Kitchen Safety, Measuring, and Kitchen Rules.

One of the most helpful parts of this book is that almost all of the recipes feature step-by-step pictures, the young cooks will have no trouble preparing the dishes. The recipes are those that will appeal to most children (as well as adults). There are recipes for everyday classics such as Snickerdoodles, Chocolate Cupcakes, and Oatmeal Cookies with several variations. The book includes a Sugar Cookie Primer to teach how to make and roll sugar cookies, as well as basic cake and cookie decorating. The Brownie Pizza will appeal to everyone and kids will enjoy using their artistic talent in making it especially beautiful and appetizing. While the sweets will probably appeal to kids the most, there are also breakfast treats such as French toast and muffins, as well as snacks including nachos and Crispy Cheese Squares. Kids will love to learn to make bread dough and turn it into bread art including a turtle and an octopus.

Everyone loves pizza, and the dough recipe is easy and turns out good. There are also other breads such as a No-Knead Bread which is easy and is also very good.

This is a fun cookbook, and kids of all ages will love the recipes and will be able to learn some basic baking skills as well as make luscious baked goods. The recipes are easy to understand and follow and contain ingredients that are probably in most homes already.

Highly recommended, Baking Class: 50 Fun Recipes Kids Will Love to Bake! makes a perfect gift and will be enjoyed by kids.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

Great title! I've been doing some small baking lessons with our three year old, and he seems to love it. This book would be a great addition to our afternoon sessions. I appreciate that the recipes are rated by difficulty/tools needed. I'm excited to try a few of these recipes, and I can promise he's going to want to make cookies first.

Love love this book!! My two oldest are 9 and 10 and had been expressing interest in cooking and baking, and this book is PERFECT for them. It has step by step photo tutorials so they can make sure they're doing it correctly, the recipes sounds delicious and are so so fun. My kids are having fun picking out recipes and trying them, and are wanting to gift them to family members. This book has spark so much interest in them, and we will be looking through this book at least a few times a month for ideas on what to make.

My students love books about cooking and this one is going to be a big hit in my library. The pictures are colorful and engaging as well as giving a clear demonstration of what to do and how to do it. The recipes are simple but look delicious. I really liked some of the presentation ideas they showed as well-like a piece of banana bread with fresh fruit that looks like a monkey-totally adorable! Love, love, love this one.

"Baking Class" is a fun, adorable, and fairly comprehensive cookbook for baking with children. It doesn't offer any revolutionary recipes. In fact, you could find every recipe in this book online easily, but the beauty of the book comes from collecting everything in one, organized book for use in the kitchen. I had a similar kids' cookbook when I was child and I loved having a collection of recipes "just for me" I could peruse and try out. Most of the recipes are pretty run of the mill (chocolate chip cookies, blueberry muffins), but there are a few quirky recipes included like "dig in the dirt pie". The recipes are a great mix of simple and more challenging. The difficulty level of each recipe is noted - with 1, 2, or 3 rolling pins. I think the "lessons" in the front of the book are very useful for children as they learn to bake. I do wish the author covered food safety more thoroughly. The book is designed for adults to use with children, however, I think it is worth mentioning that bakers should be careful with eggs and always wash their hands and utensils after contact with raw eggs, especially since nearly every recipe calls for eggs. Overall, a great baking book for children interested in the kitchen!

We so loved the bright and beautiful photography and illustrations for this book, it' was also incredibly well set out and planned. I particularly liked the lengthy introduction to all the cooking terms, equipment and techniques (although my daughter preferred to go back to them as needed rather than read them all beforehand...). The book is well designed and interesting for both adults and children, the recipe ideas offer a really good variety of dishes, but also a variety of skill levels and time requirements. It' really is a brilliant children's cookbook, and it's a great sharing book too.

Brilliant guide for enabling children to become efficient in the kitchen. The recipes are fun and delicious, the instructions are thorough with excellent photographic step-by-step illustrations to leave little room for doubt and error.

As a seasoned veteran in the kitchen Some of this book was a bit below me so to speak. It is written more on the kid level. BUT I did find some amazing recipes and even learned a thing or to. No matter how much you think you know about something there is always room for improvement and sometimes we just need to go back to the basics if for nothing else then refresher course. If you are a beginner this book is great. It teaches tips and tricks as well as a whole bunch of wonderful recipes.. I lie how the recipes were broken down into categories. There are some no bake recipes included as well. This book is a great addition to any kitchen. I truly believe in letting kids help in the kitchen, I even let my 2 year old help me. How else are they going to learn to feed themselves if we do not take the time to show them how to do it? This book like I said is geared more towards kids and beginners. Honestly it will help take some of the stress off of you as a parent/teacher to start with books like this because it will let you remember the whole time you are dealing with children and beginners.

I love cookbooks for children because I have fond memories of having my own as a child and feeling wonderful excited when I achieved something in the kitchen.

I like the author note in the beginning of the book, it is beautifully personal and I love how Deanna introduces us to her kitchen helpers. Her cheering them on and naming them each by name is very respectful to them and already gives you a good feeling about the book.

The pictures throughout the book are a little whimsical, fun and will give the reader good direction when cooking items in the book. The author Deanna F. Cook has seemingly had a lot of fun with food in this book and has created some wonderfully fun sea creatures out of bread, biscuit (or cookie) owls and rainbows and even mini burger biscuits. These not only make me want to reach in and eat them but the pictures definitely make me want to cook them.

The welcome and introduction to what you need, the difficulty levels and what baking items are needed are thorough. This has been well displayed through the use of photography and text, which is inclusive for children using this item that may not read or understand visual cues. The baking vocabulary section again has been well thought out , the strength in this book are the explanations and its photography to accompany them.

The lessons in this baking class book is not only useful for children, but also serves as a reminder to adults like me who tend to put this and that amount in but not measuring and the end result not turning out properly. There are many fun recipes in the book such as Toast Toppers, Fancy French Breakfast Treats, Crunchy Tortilla
Chips and Silly Sticks.

Whimsy comes into the book in a big way on page 56 where the author has created an Under the Sea World out of food and on page 104 where Dig in the Dirt Pie entices the cook and eater to explore their food. Deanna encourages the child readers to get creative and have a go themselves to make their snack fun. I think if it is going to help a children eat healthy snacks then it is a wonderful idea and creativity is great for the development of a child too.

Kitchen creativity section suggests different add ins, tips, and baker's secrets. Also the clock throughout giving guidance on oven temperatures was a clever use of visualisation because it doesn't get lost within the recipe and is easily noticeable to the reader.

Thank you Deanna and your helpers, you have done a wonderful job cooking up a storm and making each and every recipe so delicious looking that I just want to cook them all.

Sure to become a must loved cookbook for kids that love being in the kitchen.

A really beautifully laid out book, with lots of clear and precise pictures to back up the recipes, It would be a really good gift for young people just starting out with cooking and learning new skills. It starts with the basics, naming equipment that will be needed and used in the kitchen, it covers measuring carefully and how to work safely and then it is laid out in specific chapters covering bread, cakes, cookies and pies etc there are some fun recipes such as Zombie zucchini bread and dig in the dirt pie, which is really good by the way. So all i can say is get cooking x
