This is such a fun book, and I have to admit, I was reading it for myself (not for my 5-year-old niece as I originally intended!).
From its colorful layout, simple illustrations, and great safety tips (rating from one rolling pin to three for difficulty), it made me appreciate baking -- it’s something I generally dread. However, if kids can do it, so I can (at least that’s what I tell myself).
Rather than have lists of necessary items, I think it’s great that the “list” is a photo of ingredients/tools – something that children can easily identify. There are ideas of how to package baked good as presents, and how to decorate – a heart on toast – how did I not figure it out before?!
As well as visual lists, there are visual instructions which is incredibly useful and while I’ll test out the recipes before baking with my niece, I’m really excited to do so. And eat them of course. Smores toast?! You had me at Smore.
A really beautifully laid out book, with lots of clear and precise pictures to back up the recipes, It would be a really good gift for young people just starting out with cooking and learning new skills. It starts with the basics, naming equipment that will be needed and used in the kitchen, it covers measuring carefully and how to work safely and then it is laid out in specific chapters covering bread, cakes, cookies and pies etc there are some fun recipes such as Zombie zucchini bread and dig in the dirt pie, which is really good by the way. So all i can say is get cooking x
Brilliant guide for enabling children to become efficient in the kitchen. The recipes are fun and delicious, the instructions are thorough with excellent photographic step-by-step illustrations to leave little room for doubt and error.
We so loved the bright and beautiful photography and illustrations for this book, it' was also incredibly well set out and planned. I particularly liked the lengthy introduction to all the cooking terms, equipment and techniques (although my daughter preferred to go back to them as needed rather than read them all beforehand...). The book is well designed and interesting for both adults and children, the recipe ideas offer a really good variety of dishes, but also a variety of skill levels and time requirements. It' really is a brilliant children's cookbook, and it's a great sharing book too.
Love love this book!! My two oldest are 9 and 10 and had been expressing interest in cooking and baking, and this book is PERFECT for them. It has step by step photo tutorials so they can make sure they're doing it correctly, the recipes sounds delicious and are so so fun. My kids are having fun picking out recipes and trying them, and are wanting to gift them to family members. This book has spark so much interest in them, and we will be looking through this book at least a few times a month for ideas on what to make.
Excellent book. Loved it. Will be buying this one and look forward to some bonding with my children
Fantastic book of baking for children. Good ideas that I will be trying.
A great book we can use for our baking class as we homeschool. I really liked that this book sets the student up well with letting them know the items they will need to have in their kitchen for success in baking. The recipes that the author chose to share are really delicious looking and it’s actually really hard to pick just one a day. But there’s always tomorrow for another baking moment. Some of our favorites are scones and crunchy Tortilla chips. My girls are so excited to have this book and cook together. The full-color photos and instructions throughout make this a great cookbook! So I see on the horizon the love of cooking made possible with this books help. Thank you to the author and I hope she make more of them with the baking class format in mind.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
