This book’s sweeping depth in perfect sync with pictures is an unassuming meditation into love. As much for the adult as it is for children, this book is highly recommended!
This is a lovely story. I can't wait to read the actual story with the real illustrations because it is hard to tell some of the illustrations in the galley copy.
This is a beautiful picture book with many wonderful messages. It could become one of those books you go back to over and over as well as sharing with others. Books like The Giving Tree, Love You Forever, The Magic Paintbrush etc. Patience, love, beauty of the world and nature, traditions, sharing and so many more things are touched on. This is not a story I would read to young children, it seems to be more appropriate for junior ages (9 to 12). Every reader would take their own message from this book. A wonderful addition to school, public and family libraries.
I found this a lovely comforting picture book. I think one would want to re-read it and definitely give as a gift. The illustrations are perfect for the story. Definitely will want to explore this author's other works.
I Give You My Heart is a hard book to describe. I honestly think a review would do it a disservice. It is best to experience it for oneself. On Litsy I merely said it was an interesting fable, but it is beyond that. It is a gorgeously illustrated tale of following your heart, sharing it with the people who appreciate it, and the gifts that love spawns.
"When you give love, you can grow anything."
I Give You My Heart is unlike any fairytale I've ever read, easy to read yet with so much depth. There's wisdom to be found in this book and I expect with each reading there would be more to be discovered. I immediately reread this book when I finished it for the first time and gleaned more from it the second time, although I'd be interested to know the author's 'story behind the story' so I could fully understand the layers of this book.
Unlike other fairytales I've read I feel like this one needs to sit with me for a while as I don't feel, even after the second reading, that I've grasped the full meaning. I'm not sure at this stage that I'd want to read this book to a child as I don't think I could answer any of their questions about it to their satisfaction. The illustrations are beautiful and intricate, and some have a slightly haunting feel to them.
I'm not sure if I'd recommend this book or not. I know as a child I would have passed it over and feel as an adult that maybe I'm trying to read too much into its meaning. I'm wondering if children in the Netherlands grow up reading fairytales like this and because I'm from Australia I'm missing something.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley (thank you to NetGalley and Clavis Publishing) in exchange for an honest review. Please note that the wording of the quote may change between my review and the publication date.
I enjoyed reading this book about Yugoslavia and his journey. The illustrations really help to bring you into the world wrote inside this book, and help you to imagine what's happening.
