Novelist Claire Hastings loves her unconventional, independent lifestyle, but in order to retain her family estate in Edwardian England, she must marry within the month. The unexpected solution? Enter William Knightley, a male escort who works at her best friend’s bordello. Will’s more than willing to pretend to be a titled gentleman and receive an income in exchange for a marriage of convenience with Claire. As the clever couple tries to convince the discerning society that Will is a baron and this is a true love match, however, the ruse begins to feel all too real. But as their wedding day approaches and deeper feelings develop, several unexpected figures from Will’s past reappear, throwing everything into question. When the dust settles, will obligation or love lead them to the altar?
When I started this book, I didn’t realize it had started as fan fiction. I’m still not sure how people are able to release fan fiction for profit (Fifty Shades to be specific), but there you go. That’s not my problem with this book. My problem is the issues with the layout of the story, the inaccuracies that almost every historical romance includes for some factuality to the time and the entire premise of William. It just didn't work for me.

I really enjoyed Licie Laine's take on Pygmalion in "My Fair Baron." Claire is a novelist, not really interested in getting married, but her brother dies unexpectedly. Claire is ready to take over running the estate until she encounters a problem - she can't inherit unless she marries a respectable peer.
This is where Claire's friend Isadora (Izzy) steps in. It seems she owns a brothel that employs men and women, and just Claire's luck there is a man, Will, who services women who just happens to be a baron. Izzy believes Claire and Will can marry so Claire can inherit the estate - no muss, no fuss, no passion and a divorce in a few years. Sounds perfect.
And it is pretty close to perfect, Claire and Will get along, maybe too well, and they both pass muster in society. A drunk party-goer recognizes him from the brothel, but no one really believes the drunk.
Turns out there is plenty of passion between Will and Claire as well. That is where the problems come in - both are worried about changing the initial terms of their bargain. They obviously have the hots for each other, but what if passion ruins their bargain?
I didn't know this was actually fan fiction until I read some other reviews of the book. Kudos to the author on changing up the male/female leads with the female bringing the male into polite society. There are some problems with the book - Isadora and Claire living together, Isadora owning a brothel??. but I can overlook those and suspend my disbelief for a good story.
And the story was good. Lots of passion and heat between Will and Claire. Licie Laine is now on my radar as an author and I will look for more of her books.
This novel tells quite a different story from what I read lately and I absolutely liked it.
A young woman just lost her brother and is told by her lawyers that she has to get married within a couple of weeks to inherit her family's home - how to find a fitting husband, that fits into society, within a few days if you never gave a damn about society?
I absolutely adored the story - it's very well told!
a really enjoyable historical romance with a good plot. Thanks!
What a great book. The two best friends stuck together through the whole book. The main male character was very likeable. It had me laughing and crying throughout the book. This is a new author for me and I will definitely be on the lookout for more of her books.
I agreed to give a fair and honest review in exchange for beng given this ARC. A different kind of story. I thought when i first read the blurb that it could be somewhat steamy but by and large, it is a pretty tame tale (by my standards anyway)
This is the first book I have read by this author, but definitely will read more. I greatly enjoy historical romance books and this book did not disappoint! I loved all the characters...especially Will, Claire and Izzy (Izzy could easily have her own novel). The author did an excellent job of developing the characters so you had a good sense of what motivated them in their actions and interactions. The storyline was unique (in that Will had been working in a bordello). The mutual benefit for both Will and Claire to appear to have a relationship wasn't unique, but I loved how their feelings developed for one another. I received a complimentary copy of this book for my review; however, I would have gladly paid money to read this book!
This is a new author for me. but she writes wonderfully. Lady Claire Rose Hastings is a writer of a popular mystery series. She has her sleuth and companion fly to the stars, for example. Baron William Bertram Knightley has a sordid background but he is willing to help Claire out.
The characters seem so real, both of them are very insecure, but they persevere. The descriptions help give you the background to this very enchanting tale. The plot is excellent and woven with a mastery of a long time writer. I loved her story, the way they stood up for each other after so short of an acquaintance. The way their feelings developed, most amazing. When this story is read, it is smooth, even paced, and well written. I read it in one sitting but it is very racy. I can hardly wait for her next book.
I received this from Net Galley and voluntarily reviewed it.
My Fair Baron is a My Fair Lady type story with some twists. It follows Lady Claire and Baron William Knightley. When Claire's brother passes away, she learns she needs to marry in order to gain her childhood home. Claire's friend Izzy suggest a business arrangement with the impoverished Baron who currently works in a brothel. In exchange for his help, she'll give him a generous sum so that he'll be able to leave behind his life in the brothel. The story is cute, especially in the beginning when they are getting to know each other. Although Will is a baron, he left his title behind awhile ago and so he's unpracticed at being proper in society. Claire and Izzy help Will to fit in to society so that their relationship will be accepted. Of course as things progress and they get to know each other, a relationship develops. I enjoyed the story and found it well written but the ending did drag out for a bit while things wrapped up very easily.

Novelist Lady Claire Hastings loves her unconventional, independent lifestyle, but then she learns that her brother Charles has died & in order to retain her family estate in Edwardian England, she must marry within the month. Her friend Izzy has a solution, William Knightley, a male escort who works at her best friend’s bordello.
A well written easy to read novel. The characters are well developed & likeable. I wasn’t sure whether I liked Will to begin with but as the novel progressed & his history was revealed as well as his romantic side I liked him more & more. Claire is independent & has become an author so doesn’t want to give everything up for marriage plus she’s lost everyone she loved & is now afraid to love. The pace is gentle but still kept me interested & I enjoyed it very much. I liked Izzy & hope she has her story also Oscar needs his story.
