Overall, it felt like a little too short for an advanced student of yoga and a little too limited in topics for a beginner student. I'm not sure who would benefit most from it
This book was a very helpful book for a beginner in yoga like me. It was able to give me insight as to make sure I properly do each move. Studying this book helped make me more fluid in my moves, to transition better.
If you’re looking for a good beginner yoga position book, this needs to be yours!
This book is a must! I am a yoga teacher and I wish I had access to this book years ago. It is so insightful and an absolute must for yogi, beginner or seasoned. It should definitely be on all Teacher Trainings required reading list, too!
Excellent book with great poses and explanations. Still working my way through it.
I would recommend this book 100% to someone who is beginning yoga. It really goes through the different asanas, etc. in great detail.
This book is a must own for anyone is interested in the practice of yoga. It would be a great companion to learning for students and teachers of yoga. The level of detail is just right, not too wordy, so can be used whilst actually practising the positions, but wordy enough to give the detail needed to gain a deeper understanding.
It had the feeling of an encyclopedia, the images helped the reader to see the correct alignment of positions, whilst the text explained it, in a factual way that was easy to understand.
As an aspiring yoga teacher I will be purchasing this book
Excellent book. Extensive detail and information on the selected poses. Probably more aimed at beginners but if you want to put your own practise together this is an excellent companion book. I think it will really help you ensure you have got the poses right and don't cause yourself any unnecessary injuries. Excellent illustrations and easy to read. Thank You
A very well researched and illustrated guide to yoga with history of Yoga as well as descriptions of poses and health information. I found this book very informative and improved my Yoga practice. I enjoyed learning more about the history and using the illustrated guide to poses. Very well done.
A very informed book that teaches you how to practice yoga in order to attain better results. A good read for anyone who does yoga
Great format and graphics. I love the timelines as much as I love seeing the step-by-step poses.
This was a helpful handbook for yogis starting out or who have been practicing for awhile. The review of poses is a helpful way to improve and delve deeper into a yoga practice. The pictures and descriptions were clear and easy to follow. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy.
This book is a newer edition of a book that was originally written in …. This was something that I looked up because reading through the book it appeared to be very dated, which is a shame considering the amount of competition for yoga books out there. It’s unusual for someone to wear a leotard and tights to a yoga class these days.
Fashion aside, I’m afraid that I was put off by seeing bad alignment early on in the book. Students of yoga should never put their foot against their knee when in tree pose as is shown on page 21, Though correct alignment is then shown on pg 34 and then 60-61. As this book is also for beginners to yoga it would be good to show a photograph of the foot against lower leg modification.
One of the very good things about this book is the way that it explains to the student how to increase awareness in the position and there are grey boxes which give alignment cues to students wanting to have a home practice.
It would have been more original to have the positions in a class plan that was created by the author so perhaps they might start with positions like Easy seat or lying down and then eventually going into triangle pose.
The book starts with a history and philosophy. Very interesting. It then goes into the first 10 poses. Shows many diagrams and photos and the instructions are very clear. It then goes into more advanced poses.
I like that it explains how you should start, how long you should spend doing each movement, and how often you should do it. It even tells how long after meals except one pose that you can do immediately after eating. All very good information.
I do wish that this was available in Kindle. I'm reading it on my tablet which doesn't have all the Kindle features.
As a total newbie in Yoga, this book has given me a huge insight into Yoga, from history and poses, to where and when to start and progression through to proficiency in Yoga for the die hards.
I highly recommend this book and I definitely will now be in aking up yoga, using this book as my guide, and saving myself a fortune in yoga classes.
