4 Stars! Everyone knows that I am a sucker for Christmas romances. Especially a Christmas rom-com! This book DELIVERED! Yes, I could be found cackling to myself while reading at 2am.
The antics of this book were hilarious! Katy and Ben were hilarious (and adorable!) Their family, the ex and all the secondary characters were hilarious! I want stories on all of them now.
I implore you to read this book if you find yourself in the holiday dumps or the cold-weather saddies for a good laugh to cheer you up, even just for a moment!
This whole series of books is such a fun set of stories. I highly recommend them all.
This book was so enjoyable following the challenges of family and couple life. It follows the life of Katy and Ben at Christmas. Hosting Christmas dinner for their friends and family leads to drama and laughs galore. All the characters are likeable and relatable. We all know them in our own lives.
The story is one of the most hilarious yet relatable I have read. The characters are easy to connect with and you quickly become invested in them and their stories. The individual characters have their own stories and connections yet they flow and link so well together. Tracy has an ability to make you connect with and invest in the characters so that even those you shouldn’t really like you still care about.
I love how this series is written. The books are easy to read and quite light hearted overall. One of those books that if you find it difficult to get back into reading after a bit of a slump will definitely pull you out of it. While this book is part of a series I read them in the wrong order as I didn’t realise when I first started and it didn’t really matter. They would work as standalone in that it doesn’t matter if you can’t get hold of the first one in the series read them however you can. The different parts and characters will link together and you can build the story up around them.
Tracy is one of my favourite authors and I know if she has written it then it is guaranteed enjoyment.
This was yet another wonderfully funny installment from Tracy Bloom, the latest in the 'No-One Ever...' series. Being a fan of this series from the very first book, I couldn't wait to get hold of this one. And it didn't disappoint.
Somewhat unlikely (yet perfect!) couple Ben and Katy are getting ready for another family Christmas, but it's turning out to be more hectic than they imagined. Ben has been tasked with playing Master Elf at their daughter's school, Kate's 64-year-old mother has decided to spend Christmas with Ben and Katie, bringing along her toyboy. Also...Ben would like another baby to complete their little family. But with everything going on around them, planning for baby number 2 seems to be far from ideal...
This is probably my favourite book of the series so far. Tracy Bloom is one of my go-to authors for a light, cosy read with plenty of laughs and funny predicaments. Throw in some hilariously competitive parents, family woes and general hilarity that Ben and best made Braindead bring, and this is the perfect book to escape into in the run-up to Christmas.
This book made me laugh out loud! It's hysterical and brilliant and just... everything! Tracy is a genius and her books as must reads!!
Got to love tracys writing. Always good characters and good fun. Lots of. Different ideas and talks about. Mum having a toy boy
This was one of the funniest romantic comedies I have read in a long time. I thoroughly enjoyed the British humor that had me staying up until quite late to finish this book. Katy and Ben are a married couple with a 3 year old daughter. Katy is an executive at an ad agency who works crazy hours while Ben is a high school teacher who left his job to stay at home with their daughter. He is now teaching part time at his daughter's pre-school. The other main couple in the story are Mathew and Allison, parents of 3 children with one on the way. If you have read any other books in this series, you will know that these two couples have a past, and in this book, they are going to run into each other again. The author gives enough details about this that you do not need to have read the other books. Throw in the secondary characters of Daniel, Katy's gay best friend, her mother and her new "toy boy" who are coming for Christmas, Ben's bestfriend, Braindead, and his girlfriend and mix in their Christmas plans and you have a fun story. There is also Mathew's best friend and co-worker Ian and their nanny Lena who round out the other family. With Christmas Party's, pre-school nativity plays, proposals, business trips abroad and all the angst that happens at Christmas, and you will understand what the laughter in my living room was all about. This is the first Tracy Bloom book I have read, but it will not be my last. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley.
So i felt like this book was just not for me. I enjoyed the aspect of a couple trying for another baby but life getting in the way, however i could not connect with this book for whatever reason. I still can't decide if it was the writing or just my mood. Overall I liked the book but it wasn't great. I don't think I would buy this for myself or any friends. It just felt like all the other Christmas books I have read.
DISCLAIMER; I want to thank Netgalley and the publisher for sending a copy for review. This is entirely my honest opinion of the book.
I really enjoyed this book with some parts of the story echoing my own family's Christmas chaos. I haven't read any of Tracy Bloom's books before so this was a fantastic introduction. It's really light-hearted and easy to jump in and out of - especially during the hectic Christmas period. It's a relatable and realistic tale and succeeds in making you feel Christmassy.
Katy wants the perfect Christmas - the snow, the happy family with Michael Buble playing blissfully in the background. Ben wants a new addition to their family but with nativities, an annoying ex, a hilarious mum and her new toyboy and lots of silliness - will Katy and Ben get their perfect Christmas?
I love a good Christmas book so when I saw this on offer on Netgalley I had to have it. I didn't know it was part of a series and wouldn't have known if I hadn't read other reviews on other sites saying so. This did not impact my enjoyment of the book or understanding. In fact reading it as a standalone novel you would never know it is part of a series.
I have to say Tracy Bloom did give me the biggest inspiration for a major prank I played on the majority of my family. Dr Wunorse Opensale needs to speak to you everyone! Wunorse really made me laugh out loud when I got to this part in the book.
I found Ben and Kate to be extremely likeable and was rooting for them to survive the "Australia crisis". In fact all I wanted to see if they would survive Christmas with Kate's mum and her toyboy. The digust that her mum and boyfriend would get jiggy in her bed had me laughing way more than I needed to.
I also loved Braindead's elaborate proposal to a drunken Abby. Absolutely hilarious.
I will definitely be picking up the rest of the books in the series at some point.
This is a fun, light-hearted Christmas romance where the characters are all struggling with the desire for 'perfect', but falling short of it. You'll find some laugh out loud moments (which had my boys asking WHAT was so funny!) And, I think many of us can relate to Katy's struggles with her husband and their difference of opinion.
This book is good fun, really worth a Christmas read
Believable characters with some funny moments.
This one is part of as series of books which include No-One Ever Has Sex On A Tuesday and No-One Ever Has Sex in the Suburbs. However, it reads perfectly fine as a stand alone since the author gives you enough background so that you know these characters a little more.
No-one Ever Has Sex on Christmas Day was funny from the start. The story centers around Katy, she’s 40, married to a younger man named Ben and they have a three-year old daughter Millie. Also in the mix are their family and friends with plenty of drama, coincidences and mishaps along the way.
I liked Ben right away and Katy doesn’t deserve him. He’s a good father and husband and has been running around decorating the house for Christmas with bargain stuff he managed to find. He also let his career take the back-burner for a while after the baby was born so that Katy could work full-time at her demanding job. Katy is the main breadwinner with an advertising job.
Katy’s mom who is in her 70’s is leaving Katy’s dad for a younger man. She announces that she and her new boyfriend are coming over to Katy’s house for a few days for Christmas. Also in the mix are Matthew and his pregnant wife Alison. Matthew is Katy’s ex who she had an affair with a few years ago. Ben knows about the affair but has forgiven Katy and they have since gotten married. This book reminded me a little bit of Bridget Jones’s Diary plus Love Actually with the quirky heroine and the wacky family and friends all with separate yet intertwining story-lines.
In the midst of all this mayhem, Katy has been offered a new job in Australia. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity for her but she is torn because Ben wants to have another baby ASAP. If Katy gets the new job she will have to choose her career over having a second child and she’s pressed for time in the baby department because she is already forty years old. She would have to uproot her family from the U.K. to Australia as well.
All in all, this book is about how family and love are the most important things of all. And also, Merry Christmas. This was a fun, wacky and festive story and I enjoyed it.
Tracy Bloom has constructed an intricately crisis-crossed tale in No One Ever Has Sex on Christmas Day. The primary characters are Ben, a stay at home dad with daughter Millie and part time preschool teacher, and Katy, high powered ad executive. But there are so many others in this just shy of farce, like their best friends, her mother and boyfriend, and the couple they hope never to encounter. In fact, early on in the story it is a bit difficult to keep track of so many.
In the weeks before Christmas, Ben is appointed Master Elf at the preschool to be in charge of the school Nativity, Katy is propositioned with a dream job in Australia, but it would be a impediment to their thoughts of having a second child, something Ben dearly wants. Katy's mother announces she is coming for Christmas and bringing her Spanish boy toy, and will Katy please invited his London dwelling son to join them. Then Katy is sent to Australia to visit the Boomerang Airlines main facilities, which nearly causes a rift in their relationship.
I found the beginning of the story to drag a bit, but the last third was fast paced and witty, so overall I enjoyed this story.
This is the first book I have read by Tracy Bloom and I found it really entertaining, lighthearted and witty, which is just what you need this time of year in the hectic run-up to Christmas.
Katie and Ben have just moved into their new house with three-year-old daughter Millie, It will be the first year that Millie fully understands the magic of Christmas and they plan an idyllic time together. Then Katie hears that her mum has invited herself for Christmas along with her toyboy lover Carlos.
Katie is given a fantastic job offer but all Ben wants for Christmas is another baby!
I loved the characters, and the good old-fashioned Northern humour…… down to earth and honest with more than a dash of risque sarcasm!
I was sent this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
This review is written with thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for my copy of No-One Ever Has Sex On Christmas Day.
Katy and Ben are getting ready for Christmas. Katy is busy with her job at an advertising agency, and preparing for the visit of her mum and her boyfriend, while Ben has been tasked with organising the nativity at the school where he works. Now that Katy and Ben have their own home, they are keen to give daughter Millie a brother or sister, but when Katy is offered a promotion in Australia, will they be forced to put their plans on hold?
No-One Ever Has Sex On Christmas Day is billed, as you can see from the cover, as a "hilarious romantic comedy." The humour in this novel comes from the way a varied cast of characters come together in unlikely circumstances to celebrate Christmas. I found the majority of the characters relatable, and this is ultimately why I continued reading, as I wanted to know what happened to them. At times, I found some of the comedic moments a little too slapstick for my taste and this lessened the impact of this novel for me.
As I live in Leeds, I was excited by the prospect of a novel where I would be able to recognise locations and picture the settings as events took place. However, I was disappointed that very few areas of Leeds or prominent buildings or landmarks in the city were named. In choosing not to be more specific, I felt that Bloom missed out on the opportunity to give the novel a more homely feel with a stronger sense of place.
The plot of No-One Ever Has Sex On Christmas Day ultimately conveys a slightly different, but no less valid Christmas message. Whilst I commend Bloom for her more holistic portrayal of Christmas, I found that the message was delivered at the expense of a Christmassy feel to the novel. I have read several Christmas themed novels this year, and enjoyed the way they made me feel festive as I read. Unfortunately, this novel did not give me that feeling. and I was left slightly underwhelmed. At times, the narrative also felt a little busy, with several different subplots with different characters involved running alongside each other. This prevented me from immersing myself fully in the plot.
Well, I couldn’t resist this story when I saw the title! It sounds so funny, and it didn’t disappoint.
This story is part of a series. I haven’t read any of the other books, but I understood this one. There were a couple of parts where I was slowed down when I tried to figure out who was related. It’s a family comedy, so it’s easy to get into the story.
The families are at different stages in their lives, so they would be relatable to different readers. Katy’s family is deciding whether or not to have more children, while also dealing with stress from her job. Her mother has a new boyfriend at 74 years of age, and they have invited themselves for Christmas dinner. Meanwhile, Matthew’s family is expecting a new child and dealing with preschool drama with his twins. All of these situations made for some very funny moments.
I really enjoyed this story. It was quick to get through because it was so funny and lighthearted. It’s a great, entertaining holiday story.
You must know by now that I am a massive fan of Tracy Bloom, her novels always have me in stitches and so I was very excited when I heard she was bringing out another festive novel-just what I need, laughs at Christmas time. But this novel gave me so much more than just laughs. This is the third in the no-one ever has sex series and so it was great to revisit these characters again. You don't need to have read the other books in the series to enjoy this festive offering, it definitely works as a stand alone but the other books are so great and you will learn so much more about the history of the characters that I definitely recommend doing that.
The characters in this book are just funny in themselves. I love Katy as a character because she is a strong woman and so someone I love to read about and identify with. But she is no-one without Ben, he is definitely her comedy sidekick and he is just a real gem in terms of men in fiction. I'm not just being biased because he is a fellow teacher but he is just such a love a I love him to bits. Of course with the comedy couple, we need to the straight couple for them to bounce off and Annabelle and Katy's ex are definitely that, but they have their own storyline in this novel, which is great too, and so are just fab to read about.
Now there is a nativity in this book and I really believe that, along with the one from the film Nativity! it may just be the greatest of all time. I want to steal it and do it with my future classes at this time of year because it had humour, it had songs and it had meaning and quite frankly I cried over it! I loved it and it was a major highlight of the book for me.
I also loved the deeper meaning in this book. There are messages about the importance of family and about the idea of having it all and the fear of missing out. This is intertwined with the humour of the book beautifully and along with a festive nativity you really have it all. One last thing that I loved about this book was that it was set in Leeds and I am a northern girl so I could feel their northerness just leaping off the page. I really enjoyed this read and would definitely recommend picking it up!
The perfect Christmas book, it made me laugh out loud. Tracy Bloom has a wonderful way with words and characters. I’m now totally ready for Christmas.
I first discovered this series when I picked up Tracy Bloom's 'Nobody Ever Has Sex On A Tuesday' and I completely fell in love with Katy and Ben and the life they were making for themselves. Flash forward to the 3rd instalment and I feel as though I came home.
As usual, Tracy Bloom's humorous writing had me laughing hysterically and reading this gem on the run up to Christmas has made me feel incredibly festive!
Ben and Katy are such a wonderful couple to follow and I can't wait to read another instalment from such a wonderful author.
