WOW!!! LOVED this book! I have been practicing using Markers on my Arts and this book brought me a lot of inspiration! Thank you NetGalley for a digital copy in exchange for an honest review.

Lovely book with beautiful designs and many useful tips to the (seemingly) easy art of creating with the markers. The authoress does not do designs to copy for you, but tries to stir your imagination with many cute pieces of art (of which many are doable - even if I do not think mine will look half that cute!). I think one needs to master the technique to be able to draqw/paint things that seem easy to do (and this skills you simply can not get from the books of simple drawings, one must practice and practice).
Yet this little book DOES stir creativity, I must admit!

Found this very interesting as I'm starting to journal and want to get more into bullet journaling. I plan to share this with my teenagers who are extremely into the arts and I think will enjoy it. Thank you for the opportunity to look at the book.

My Thoughts: This book is perfect for the aspiring marker artist of any age. Lee Foster-Wilson starts off with the basics – a how to use the book, materials needed, the color-wheel explained, tips and techniques for drawing and painting with markers (for eg: cross-hatching/shading/layering/negative space use), and more. She then proceeds to give different project ideas with step-by-step instructions and accompanying pictures that show ‘what next’ that the reader can try out with different types of markers. My favorites included ideas for hand-made gift wraps, creating landscapes by layering (loved this technique, and had not realized how versatile markers really are), transforming everyday objects into a work of art in culinary and rock art, and…well, I think I will go ahead and add every idea in the end, so I will stop with the top favorites right here.

And yes, totally loved the whimsical cover and the illustrations that are scattered all around the projects, providing additional inspiration for all!

You can create a gift kit for those aspiring artists you know; and I have a suggested kit (some of the items are ones you will find outside your home, or right in your home) below.

Rating: A (for aspiring artists)
Reading Level: all ages
Reread Level: 4.5/5

Creative Marker Art and Beyond is a good resource for anyone who wants to move beyond the current coloring craze to creating with markers. It is a beginner level and would be suitable for "children" 8 - 88, anyone who loves markers and wants a few new ideas. It would be an inexpensive gift to include with a set of markers.

Lee Foster-Wilson begins with marker types, drawing surfaces and color basics, The reader is encouraged to experiment throughout. I learned the new word 'scrumbling' - drawing little marks to build up texture.

The layout is appealing and brightly colorful. The many photos clearly show the concept or project without extra clutter. Space is provided for practicing the creativity prompts. Simple exercises encourage experimentation. Projects start basic enough for per-kindergartners (gift wrap, rock art), brushing through lettering to journal covers and patterned wall art and mandalas.

My only small gripe is that the author suggests using almost dried out markers for shading. I think there are much better media for this (colored pencils!), but that is beyond the scope of this book. Who wants to have all those (almost) dried up markers around?

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for granting access to an ARC of this book for an honest review.

This is a good book, but as I am just getting in touch with my artistic side, I would have benefitted from video tutorials for some of these techniques.

Brilliant book full of great tips for a person inexperienced in drawing, like me. It contains great tips for making simple embellishments on everyday items which makes them excellent gifts or decorations. I’m sure it can also be inspirational for more experienced artists/crafters.

A lovely book bursting with colour, inspiration and creative ideas. It is amazing what you can do with a pack of felt tip pens. All the projects are fully illustrated and the instructions clear enough for someone who has never had a go at drawing before. A lovely book to own and browse through for inspiration. Thank You

When I saw the whimsical cover of this book I expected it to contain a wide variety of different themed motifs that can be duplicated and recombined by the reader. Instead, I found myself presented with a few techniques and basic drawing exercises that can be practiced on the empty pages in the book. The reader is more or less asked to come up with his or her own motifs while doing the exercises. The projects that follow are very simple and not many of them caught my interest. I like that Lee Foster-Wilson presents techniques on different surfaces (paper, wood, glass, ceramics, and fabric) and tells the reader which kind of markers she used for them. I probably will do some lettering and writing with markers on card stock, and I might decorate one of my windows with the markers she suggests, using my own ideas.

This book was ok. It had tips, examples, techniques, pages to try by yourself, with a good step by step guides.......I found this book was for Children not really adults which has come in handy as I am using some of this for my classes.
The book gave you idea's of projects you could do with your children or as a creative social group.

I found a few useful tips in this beautiful book. But many of the projects were very alike and not my style. But I also believe there is a lot of creative persons out there who would love this book.

Once upon a time you could only get markers in black, and they were thick or tin. Now we have such a beautiful array of colours, and they are able to make all sort of marks as you write or draw.
Follow the various tutorials and practice excises and soon you will be creating fabulous pieces.
This book shows you some wonderful technics and by incorporation other ordinary household items turn them into lovely decorative and useful items.

- A book meant to spark your creativity and introduce you to the world of marker art.
- Perfect for the non-artist who wants to start a new hobby and unwind after a long day.
- Unconventional uses of markers for crafters who want to experiment and find inspiration from the projects.
! If you are looking for a book with complex techniques or projects, this is not at all like that.

The interior design of the book is very pretty (for me it is important because, if I want to get inspired and the book looks unappealing, then it already killed half of my joy). It has a lot of images, uplifting colors on every page, tip boxes and "practice here" areas. Even the table of contents is visually appealing and functional!. This is a happy book, the kind of book you want to open if you are stressed out or unmotivated. It has simple instructions so you can put your mind at rest and enjoy pleasing the creative side of the brain. A plus side is that it is an inexpensive hobby that uses cheap and fairly common supplies and if you have kids, chances are you already have everything needed.

Basics of what materials to use, color combinations to choose, techniques, textures and patterns to learn, are paired with many original projects, 10 of them with step-by-step instructions. While they are all fairly simple projects, using markers in novelty ways can help spark new ideas on artists and crafters wanting to experiment. My favorite projects from the book are:

- Making gift wrap paper
- Painting on rocks
- Decorated glass frame
- A little bit of lettering
- Embellished letters
- Mirroring marker art
- Watercolor effects
- Window art

I love this book!! Though it will be considered basic for those with artistic talent, for the rest of us this book tells us what we need to know about color, shading, layering, how to create different shapes, designs, scribbles etc. The author takes us step-by-step through the basics and also through several very nice projects. There is plenty of encouragement, plenty of opportunity to practice, plenty of confidence builders and the results are really very nice. Many of the projects would make great gifts. I'm really excited to try out what I learned!

Many thanks to NetGalley, the author Lee Foster-Wilson & Quarto Publishing Group for allowing me to read an e-copy of this book. I enjoyed it so much, if I don't win it in the Goodreads Giveaways, I'm going to be forced to buy a hardcopy for myself to have on hand.

Fun, educational art book filled with doable projects. My granddaughter loves art. I had her look over this book too and she loved it! The book explains how to use markers to make beautiful works of art. My grand daughter spent many hours with markers, paper and rocks (yes, you read that right) to make many wonderful projects.
