Not your average adult coloring book. This book is filled with tips and tricks to get you on your way to drawing. It shows you the best tools or pens in this case. It teaches you about different sized lines. It teaches you about patterns. Then it shows you how to make things like your own hand drawn gift wrap and more. This is a book you will want to keep and keep referring back to with all your drawing projects.

This book comes with many ideas to use markers (on windows, on plates, on paper, on fabric, and stones). Mind you, I think that you don't really need a book to tell you that you can decorate a window drawing with markers but here it is. I found the book to be for children and teens, too basic and simple for adults (unless this is your first art book).

The only two cool ideas I found here are how to layer a landscape and making silhouettes (hence the 2 stars). Also, you will need to actually know how to draw (a house, for example, a bird or a tea pot) as the book just gives you ideas but no steps to draw anything, which is fine because this is not a drawing book.

Is this book worth it? Perhaps I have seen too many books like this already to find anything new in it, but if you are just starting you can give it a try.

So this was interesting. I know how to colour with felt tips (or markers if you are American) but my drawings look very amateur and childish. I had hoped that this book would help with that. and, while there were a few good tips, it felt more like a positive affirmation that it was okay to use felt tips. It felt like the idea that colouring in is childish and you need books geared to adults to make it appropriate. There were some interesting styles and I liked the idea of the colouring wheel but overall there wasn't anything that stood out.
Cute but honestly I probably would flick it through it once and never look at it again.

I've been trying my hand at drawing, which I've never been particularly good at, but thanks to this book, I'm improving. It was a lot of fun to do the prompts and see my skills improve a little bit.

If you want to know how to make art or handlettered projects with markers, check out Creative Marker Art and Beyond. The book starts out with basics like what materials to use, playing with color and different drawing techniques. These introductory chapters are followed by step-by-step projects so you can practice everything you are learning. Examples of these photo tutorials are: making your own gift wrapping paper, drawing on rocks, layering, silhouettes, lettering, personalizing your journal cover and more.

A perfect book for everyone that loves to work with markers and be creative.

This book will help get your creative juices flowing. Markers are usually thought of more as a toy or a plaything, than a tried and true art supply. This book looks at making art with markers. How to layer to get better colors etc. Reading the book, it is obviously for kids, but at the same time, it almost feels like the author is talking to adults. The graphics and projects are definitely for kids, and include such things are making wrapping paper.

My original blog post at: https://nonstopreaderbooks.blogspot.no/2017/10/creative-marker-art-and-beyond.html

I love art how-to books. Especially ones which are accessible and do-able by anyone. This is a specialized book aimed at markers of all types. The techniques are explained well with great photographs and illustrations and include all of the tutorials and projects the aspiring artist needs to develop and have a good experience creating with markers of all sorts. The projects are achievable by beginners as well as more advanced artists.

The layout and text are playful and colorful and very informal. It's a short book, 144 pages, but it packs quite a lot of content in, with useful takeaways such as: how to use the book, tools and materials, color techniques, drawing techniques, playing with color, etc. The introductory chapters are followed by 10 project tutorials arranged in roughly ascending order of difficulty which each have new techniques to explore and develop.

All of the chapters are very well photographed and the layout is very professional, very fun and very energetic.

I have started making personalized journal covers inspired by the project tutorial (#5) in this book, for stocking stuffers and thank you gifts. You can get inexpensive journals from IKEA for less than $1 each, and if you irretrievably destroy one, it's not any sort of tragedy, just recycle it. (I'm NOT an artist and I haven't had to throw one away yet).

Well worth a look for any coloring fans out there.

"Creative Marker Art & Beyond" provides instruction on how to use markers to create basic, stylized marker art. It appears to be for an audience like beginning DIY crafters or people who enjoy adult coloring books who are ready to try making something on their own. The book started with some basic information about markers and ways to use them. You don't need much in the way of equipment to get started, nor does it appear to cost much to try out. She gave information on techniques throughout the book and provided practice pages in the book.

The author dove right into the step-by-step projects, starting very simple and getting a little more elaborate by the last projects. Each project applied the techniques learned previously in the book so you can see how you use them. The photographs showed each step, and each step moved forward slowly enough that you don't get lost or wonder "how did she get there?" or "how did she do that?" She covered a variety of surfaces (glass, wood, paper, fabric, stone) and types of markers (permanent markers, paint markers, brush markers, etc.). Projects included personalized notebook covers, custom wrapping paper, rock art, a decorated glass frame, and more.

The projects aren't super-fancy, but they are creative fun. Overall, I'd recommend this book to beginners interested in marker art.

Starting with a tools and materials list alongside a colour wheel explaining colour types and drawing tips all fully explained, the book sets you up with all the tips and tricks you need to understand creative marker art and colours that work and pattern types to try out too.

With ideas to try out with space on the page for you to work within the book if you wanted to, the book guides you through many ideas from nature inspired design to creative lettering and hand drawn gifts.

The book is beautiful, colourful and laid out in a way that's still easy to read and not distracting from the colourful drawings! Each page is more and more inspiring and is sure to get you out of a creative rut or just get you involved in marker craft.

Many thanks to the publishers for allowing me to review this book for them!

Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this review copy given in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoy colouring, and have lots of marker and brush pens which I never really know what to do with as they are a bit too big to do fine colouring in. This book gives good examples as to what you could use these types of pens for. There are different sections for different things, for example playing with colours, layering, silhouttes etc, and in between there are blank pages for you to practice on.

It's not a colouring book, so if that's what you are looking for then it's not the book for you, but it is a good instructional book if you want to take your colouring to the next level!
