I was sucked into this book immediately. I liked Kit and I liked the characters along side her. There is a feeling at all times something is going to happen and shock you. Recommend!
Kate White, the New York Times bestselling author, pens her latest suspense novel, The Wrong Man, which is a heart-stopping thriller about an interior decorator who on a business cum pleasure trip to Florida gets conned by a man about his identity, and little did she knew that a simple stolen identity case would land her up in a dangerous game of illegal medicine trading scam which will put her on the hit list.
I could not put this book down. I think I read it in a couple of hours across two evenings, only interrupted by work! I love how the main character(s) were protrayed - Kit isn't a wet and washy woman fainting in the face of drama, nor does she run headlong into things having the reader screaming 'Noooooooo' in desperation. She's strong, but not too strong, confident - but without too much confidence. She's how I'd like to think the best of us would behave in such a situation. It's a clever book with some great characters, I could definitely imagine this on the big screen!
Great concept for a book started off brilliantly although I then got rather confused with the story line.
Careful What You Wish For
The Wrong Man is Kit's adventure. She's a successful interior designer who is looking to pursue danger and all things risky. She crosses paths with a man, Matt Healy, while on a business trip. From there, her life is completely transformed.
I liked this book, I was constantly wondering what would happen next or preparing myself for a plot twist. The book was satisfying but I would also term it 'the standard or classic thriller'. This made it a bit of a let down which is the reason for my moderate rating of three stars. The story seemed quite generic, the dialogue superficial or dull...There was an opportunity for comedy, wittiness, character back stories but it was never taken advantage of.
I was however a huge fan of how the author built up the anticipation in a way to keep you reading.
The Wrong Man is your average detective story, with Kit deciding to play detective to get the criminals off her back. So if you're in want of such a story, this book will be a perfect fit.
Note: this is not to say it was a predictable read. I didn't foresee a lot of the twists but I did have some guesses that were proven correct.
I received this book through NetGalley.
This wasn't really my style and I didn't really enjoy it as much as I thought I might, the writing was ok though and story seemed fine, just not my cup of tea.
Impossible to describe this book without giving away aspects of the plot. Suffice to say it's a great mystery read with a complex plot that keeps the reader engaged right until the end. A real page-turner with rational explanations for the twists and turns.
Although this kept me interested and I read it quickly I didn't enjoy it quite as much as The secrets you keep ! Kit meets a handsome stranger whilst on a business trip , she arranges to see him again back in New York but when she arrives at the apartment for her date it's the wrong man . She is thrust into the murky world of a financial corporation who will stop at nothing to keep themselves out of trouble . It was a good read but a bit more of a romance with a bit of peril , a bit like a Karen Rose which is great if that's what you like to read .
Feeling reckless, interior designer Kit Finn sleeps with Matt Healy, a man she’s just met on a business trip to Florida. She’s happy to agree to his suggestion that they meet up again when they’re both back home in New York, but when Kit arrives at the address he’s given her, there is indeed a man there called Matt Healy ... but he’s not the man she met, and denies any knowledge of him. Kit is swept into a dangerous spiral of threats, suspicion and ultimately murder. Who can she trust?
For some reason, I had it in my head that this was a first novel, and therefore was surprised to learn that author Kate White - former editor-in-chief of US Cosmopolitan - has written a number of suspense novels, many featuring true crime writer Bailey Weggins (though this one doesn’t). Not that there’s anything about it that particularly screams “first novel” -there isn’t.
I liked main protagonist Kit’s independent spirit and devotion to her work - very Cosmo Girl - although I was a little distracted by the fact that her business partner is a seventy-one year old woman who rejoices in the unlikely name of “Baby Meadow”. (Hard not to think of Dirty Dancing, especially with lines like “It was good to have Baby in her corner” - that had to be deliberate!). It’s neatly plotted and the story rattles along nicely with a few twists and turns along the way, even if none of the characters -except perhaps the aforementioned Baby - really prove very memorable.
All in all, a fun, escapist read which I enjoyed.
This was a great thriller. Intriguing and it drew me in from the start. I had just read another book by the same author so I was eager to see if this one was as good and I was not disappointed.
Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for an advance e-copy in exchange for an honest review.
A very gripping start, which intrigues you at the onset. A few good twists to keep you interested.
The Wrong Man Kate White
This book has me in a quandary. I really enjoyed the story but there were times when I found myself just wanting to say, “get on with it”
The story is based on Kit Finn, an interior decorator in New York. She is a slow and steady type of girl that decides he life needs a bit of a kick up the butt. So, when she goes on a trip to the Florida Keys she decides to blend a bit of business with a vacation. On the last night, she decides to throw care to the wind and spend the night with the handsome stranger she’s just met.
That is when her life takes a strange and dangerous turn. As the title of the book would suggest the stranger is not who he says he was. But why would he lie to her, and why arrange a second date.
Kit becomes involved in murder and deceit as she tries to find out why the mystery man would lie to her.
The story gets very modern day Nancy Drew as she ignores the advice of her friends and the Police and tries to unpick the things that are going on around her.
I know it’s not much, but I can’t say much about the story without giving away the plot.
Did I enjoy the book? Yes
Would I recommend it? Yes, but not to people who enjoy a dynamic story. Its more the type of book you’d buy your favourite Aunty who enjoys a good mystery as much as she enjoys a good chick-lit novel

A young interior decorator has a chance romantic encounter with a stranger on holiday. On returning to New York she arrives as arranged at his flat only to find a different man lives there, with the same name.
This is the start of a nightmare sequence of events where she is no longer sure of the identity and intentions of people and the safety of her home, her business and even her life are under threat.
This is a gripping thriller, full of suspense with many twists and turns.
This was an easy read but was almost too easy to skim, with slightly superficial characters which didn't really inspire affection. OK for a rainy afternoon.
A great fast paced thriller, with strong characters and an exciting plot. Really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it. A real page turner.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Kate White for the copy of this book. I agreed to give my unbiased opinion voluntarily.

An excellent well written quality read. I didn't want it to end!
The Wong Man by Kate White
Kit was on holiday in Florida when she met an attractive stranger. This encounter will take her into a nightmare situation when she arrives back home in New York. I enjoyed this thriller. It had plenty of suspense and was fast paced with a few twists and turns.
I would like to thank NetGalley and Canelo for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.
The setting of an interior design agency was just unusual enough to be interesting. I'm not at all clued up about design myself and the book didn't spend too much time on unnecessary details, just enough to give us some perspective- and provided a handy backdrop for the hijinks that unfolded...
The book itself was a twist-filled thriller - who is Matt Healy? Who is the guy Kit hooked up with in Florida? There are a whole bunch of red herrings thrown in along the way. Although most things were tied up at the end, I felt the ending was a little bit rushed, and tied things up a bit TOO neatly. I know it's not a police procedural but I feel like the police would have wanted a bit more involvement with Kit.
All in all an entertaining thriller, and fun to read, but without anything extra special that would warrant a bump up to four stars.
