I really like the author’s take on “A Pesto is a paste is a puree.” Actually, you can use a pesto in many different areas of your meals: pasta, salad, soups, and marinades.
The pictures in this book are gorgeous. The recipes look amazing. This book has opened my mind to trying pestos as rubs, dressings, and other toppings. I have increased my cooking vocabulary and learned that different countries have different names for pestos. I feel more confident entering the conversation on pestos after reading this book. I cannot wait to try out many of the recipes.
The author gives the reader recipes for pestos, mayonnaises, aiolis, vinaigrettes, soups, snacks, main meal seafood and meats, and yes, .pastas. I found the breath of this cookbook fascinating. Definitely going on my wish list as a future present to myself and others.

While I know the idea of pesto can be expended to include many different herbs and vegetables, my thoughts on reading this book is that the title and the contents don't exactly match up. There's plenty of great pesto recipes and it does seem natural to expand the definition to include the many international pesto-like sauces, such as chimichurri. But when her definition of "pesto" includes compound butter, mayonaisse, and vinegrettes, I think the net is spread just a bit wide.

It's not that the recipes look bad, they don't, it's just that this isn't pesto. I would rather the book was called something different.

About half the book is devoted to recipes using the various mixtures from the earlier parts of the book. The vegetable-centric recipes look good.

But all in all, it's not a cookbook I will have on my shelf.

I love pesto sauce and never realised that there were so many uses for it. Theses recipes are the best and have made me want to explore more and come up with some of my own. I loved the history behind pesto which made this more than another cookery book.

My daughter and I love cilantro, and my husband hates it. For years we have made cilantro pesto, frozen it in ice cube trays, and add a cube to our mexican food without turning Jerry off of our favorite foods. I see I will have to start labeling my ziplock bags of green cubes in the freezer!

I really had no idea there were so many different varieties of Pesto until I read this book. It is chock full of interesting recipes including some that sound extremely delicious such as Peanut Sesame Pesto (which I will be trying post haste) and Sweet Pepper, Almond and Chive Romesco. In addition to the recipes for the sauces, there are many recipes and tips on how to use them including a section for vegetarian recipes. This is a great little reference cookbook for my (and your) library.

I want to thank the publisher, Stoney Publishing LLC, and Netgalley for providing me with an ARC of this wonderful book for my honest review.
I was elated when I was selected to receive an ARC of the book, The spoons with Pesto on the cover are so appetizing and attractive and pulls you in. I never know that there are so many types of pesto,. The author, Olwen Woodier provides us with great information about the origins of pesto, basic ingredients and storage of extra quantities. and equipment to use to make pesto.
The recipes are amazing and the ingredients are easy to find. I also like that the author tells you what foods to use the respective pesto with..
Another great feature is addition of recipes for mayonnaise and vinaigrettes, cooking with pesto which covers categories such as salads and soups, sides and snacks, pasta and grains, meat and poultry, seafood dishes and more importantly vegetarian entrees.
I am slowly moving toward a more plant based diets and this book helps me feel more comfortable that I can make my food tasty. enough so that I can stick with it. Very exciting!!!

Thorough and around the world creative ways to grind, blend and mix your herbs to create savory pestos to suit every meal. My definition of pesto has also been exponentially expanded and I am inspired to experiment beyond basil. The accompanying recipes give a plethora of inviting ways to use your creations.

Before picking up this book, I considered myself a pesto expert. As a vegetarian with a farm share I have made my share of pesto, with all manner of greens! However, just leafing through Woodier's The Pesto Cookbook has made me hungry for more. The "Sundried Tomato and Almond Pesto" and the "Rosemary Pesto" both sound delicious to me. There seems to be a pesto in this book for every palate and I, for one, can't wait to try them out.

This is the second cookbook I have picked up this year and i must be on a roll because they just keep getting better and better.

This book was filled with bright, beautiful and hunger inducing photos, the readability was fantastic, following the recipes were simple and the food was delicious. I actually read the whole book in one day because i was really surprised how interesting it was to learn about the history of pesto and how everyone can modify it to their own tastes. I never knew you could mix in pestos with soups and salads, I've only ever been having them on crackers or toasted bread.

I've already tried out two recipes today which both my partner and I loved and are eager to go back to the local food market to stock up on more ingredients.

Thank you NetGallery for allowing me to read this book

I love pesto sauce and I was looking for some good recipes for other types of pesto beyond the traditional Pesto Genovese. The author starts by giving us and introduction to the history of pesto not only in Italy but other countries as well. She then dives into the world of pesto recipes starting with the classic genovese and moving on to Brazilian tempuro puree. I was not expecting the herbed oil recipes were were and added bonus and quick and easy. The book also contained some very vibrant pictures of the recipes. There are a few I can't wait to try. All in all this was a very solid effort.

This book is filled with variations of spreads. It is one of the books on cooking that I requested via NetGalley. It does not halt with just the basic combinations but proceeds to identify possible oils and vinaigrettes that can be created with herbs.

It even contains recipes with ideas on what to do with those combinations that we can create from those pages. There are very soothing pictures interspersed between various suggestions. Garlic plays a vital role in the first half of the book, and there seem to be very few recipes without it playing a vital role. This is a book that would look great on the bookshelf. At the same time, it generates a few ideas on how to play with certain flavours.

Nicely done book, offering a lot more than the well known basil based pesto.

Its a nice mixture of historical facts and stories, and recipes for simple pestos, to different versions stepping away from the typical herb pestos and recipes to eat them in.

I think its wonderful how the author doesn't just offer recipes but also suggests to find your own personal pestos, that you shouldn't just stick to recipes but just try things out and make your own versions.

The pictures are stunning as well!

This book is defiantly beautiful and shows a LOT of love for its subject and lovingly pushes that on the reader.

If you want to try something new in the pesto world, defiantly give this book a try!

I am super excited about this cookbook. I eat a plant based diet and like to eat simple foods. I can't wait to try so many of these pestos on roasted veggies and soups/stews. The book is beautifully photographed and has recipes using the pestos as well as the pestos themselves. There are also some oils and mayos. I love how the author teaches you the steps as well so you can get creative and try to make your own blends based on your tastes.

I recieved a free digital copy of this book from Netgalley for an honest review.

Oh, how I LOVE pesto!

The first chapter of the book describes various vegetables and utensils and such. If you can get past that, the rest of the book is a gem!
The illustrations are gorgeous! I can't wait to dive headfirst into some of these recipes! Spicy tomato summer pesto, fennel-chive herb butter, basil-cilantro oil with garlic! There are also delicious recipes using pesto sauces with a variety of different dishes....and I can't wait to try most of them!
I will definitely be buying a paper copy for myself and two for gifts.
