This is the story of Lacey and Maddox. On a 2-week trip to Las Vegas, Lacey and Maddox fell in love. On a whim, they got married. It was the greatest might of Maddox's life. However, when he awoke the next morning, she was gone and had taken the marriage license with her. Maddox spent the years looking for her. Only to find out she is the sister of one of his teammates on the ice hockey team. Her brother is not a fan of his. Two years later, he sees her and they pretend they do not know each other. She is enraged that he would forget her and their marriage. He did say anything because he wanted her to make the first move. Now they are participants in a wedding and are paired together. It is the time that everything comes to a head. He wants to prove to her that he could be a great husband and also prove to her brother and teammates that he is a changed man.

Maddox's character would ramp this story to a 3.5 star rating. He was persistent. He wanted to really show her how faithful he was, no matter what it seemed (since he made it look like he dated and slept with multiple women while they were married), that he wanted everything to work by changing anything for her, and that she could trust him with her heart. I like a good chase and he did that in spades. However, Lacey's character dragged this book to a rating of 2.5 stars. She kept stating that she wanted it to work but she kept throwing the fact that he was photographed with other women, even though he kept telling her that he never slept with any of them and he did that to make her jealous so she could come back to him. Between those 2 ratings it evens it out to a 3 star.

This is a typical sports romance. It was a quick read. Sometimes I was confused with all the characters and their relation to each other. If you like a happily ever after then this is the book for you.

I have been waiting to read this one! We were left hanging about Dallas's baby sister Lucy after the last book. Something is up with her. Let's add in Maddox to the mix and oh boy! These two have a hot mess to sort out! Not giving secrets here other than what you already know. These two have a history and it's going to get ugly before it gets better.

As always, this author gives us mini epilogues as part of her continuing stories. We get a peek at what previous couples are up to . Great secondary characters all around. And of course, we get some hockey!

Good story. Looking forward to more.

Playmaker was the much-anticipated 3rd book in the Breakaway series. I was very excited to be reading it, seeing that this was Lacey and Maddox’s story. My excitement was tempered some by a ridiculous and unoriginal storyline. But I did enjoy the story. It was a good way to spend my Friday night.

I did like Playmaker’s storyline. It started off as a very original one. Girl and guy meet in Vegas. They spend an intense 2 weeks together, get married in a drunken impulse and the girl takes off the next day. The guy still has the marriage certificate and keeps a tab on the girl. 2 years go by and they meet at the girl’s brother wedding. He decides that he wants to make a go of the marriage and tries to get the girl to go on board. The girl holds out until they have sex. Then she is all for it. This is where the storyline becomes recycled from the last book and kind of made me go “blah“. Girl wants to hide their relationship. Guy goes along with it until, well, something major happens. Then he wants to let the world know about their relationship. The girl does not and it causes issues.

Lacey drove me nuts. I thought she had no right to be jealous of Maddox and the women he dated in the past. It wasn’t like he was dating them while trying to work on their marriage. She flipped out when she caught Maddox in a situation with that chick from the reality TV show. She wanted to keep the relationship secret from her brother because of the bad blood. The only reason she even told her brother was well, you need to read the book to find out.

On the flip side, I did like Maddox. He loved Lacey. Loved her from the minute he saw her in Vegas. He did have his issues but he wasn’t a bad guy. Most of his issues were because of his father. He wasn’t perfect and he knew that. He was also a great hockey player!! I also understood why he went along with Lacey and keeping their relationship a secret. He was trying to keep her happy.

I did think that the romance between Lacey and Maddox was forced and not at all believable. I didn’t get a sense of connection between the two until almost the end of the book. I did get that Lacey wasn’t happy to be married to Maddox. I also got that she didn’t want anyone to find out. Other than that, I didn’t see any sparks outside the bedroom.

If I felt the romance was lacking, then the sex more than made up for it. Those sex scenes were smoking hot. Once Lacey had Maddox, it was impossible to keep her out of his bed. I loved it!!

The end of the book was very typical for a romance. All romance and hearts. I did like the epilogue. I felt it was original and very sweet. I also liked that the next book’s couple was hinted at.

Playmaker is definitely an Adult book. There are some graphic sex scenes and language. There is some mild violence too. I would recommend this book to family and friends. I would warn that while the romance is lackluster, the sex is hot. I also would reread it.

I would like to thank Random House Publishing Group, Loveswept, and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review Playmakers.

All opinions stated in this review of Playmakers are mine.

Oh I very much loved this book. I really didn’t like Maddox in this series but I kind of felt bad for him as well. Author LP Dover really brings him in a 180 with this frustratingly sexy story which tells us what happens in Vegas sometimes doesn’t stay there. A marriage in drunken haste that takes a 2 yr hiatus is basically the premise of the story, the in between yrs caused some problems that might not be fixable but their secret still remains. The angst of mistrust & the belief that love still lived was a strong thread through this book. Maddox & Lacey we’re both strong characters which made them both loveable. The fact that the author kept them together & had them strong enough to work out their problems & fears was heartwarming. Definitely recommend

I’ve read this twice already it’s that good. I definitely will go and buy the other books in this series.

So to be totally honest, I struggled with Lacey. I felt like half of the book she was extremely annoying, always questioning Maddox when he would say nothing happened with a woman. I understand that she knows the ins & outs of a hockey player's life with her brother being one & having been a ladies' man himself before settling down, but she is a bit too untrusting especially when she's the one that left Maddox in Vegas. Maddox is a steamy bad boy who has a sweet side & is pretty irresistible. I would recommend this book still even though I'm not a Lacey fan. It's still a good story.

Great characters that grab your attention right away and you quickly become invested them, couldn't stop until I finished it!

While I enjoy the Breakaway series, this one left me feeling like I had missed some of the story or like a puzzle with some missing pieces. Although the prologue certainly grabs your attention, I was hoping for a little more background as to how Maddox and Lacey fell in love. And why did Lacey just take off leaving Maddox the way she did? For being a medical student, her behavior seemed both immature and impulsive. Was there a specific incident in her life before meeting Maddox that led her to having trust issues? True, Maddox’s attempt to make Lacey jealous and come forward after she left by being photographed with different women was also immature, but after they got back together he repeatedly showed her in different ways that she could trust him. And yet she seemed clueless about how her relationship with her best friend, Braeden (who is one of Maddox’s teammates), might make Maddox feel jealous until quite late in the story...kind of a “pot calling the kettle” type of deal!

But if you can overlook Lacey’s immaturity/insecurity, there is a good story here.

Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing - Loveswept for an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

Maddox Ledger is a star hockey player for the Charlotte Strikers. Several years before he met Lacey Easton in Las Vegas and after quickly falling in love they got married. Lacey got cold feet and left Maddox without a trace. He found her, but took his time reaching out to her as she was finishing her medical residency in New York. By coincidence, Lacey's sister is engaged to one of Maddox's teammates and they end up paired together in the wedding. At first Lacey plays dumb to Maddox, but they both recognize each other. After dancing around each other, they finally get back together and shortly after Lacey is pregnant. There is a little drama with both of them waiting to go public with their relationship. Lacey's friendship with Maddox's teammate Braden and Maddox's history as a womanizer. The book ends with them living happily ever after. Kind of a ho hum story.

The is the third book in the Breakaway series and it is a fun, feel good story. This is a second chance romance mixed with sexiness and sweetness. The characters are genuine and the story endearing and there are also entertaining secondary characters.

Maddox and Lacey meet, hook up and marry in Las Vegas. Unfortunately, Lacey leaves without saying goodbye to Maddox and they don’t see each other again until they attend the same wedding. Maddox plays hockey for the Charlotte Strikers and he stole my heart. He is willing to do whatever it takes to prove himself to Lacey. He loves Lacey and wants the world to know she is his. It takes Lacey awhile to realize she can trust Maddox. Lacey is smart, friendly, kind and she is just finishing medical school. She knows most hockey players cheat and she worries Maddox will eventually cheat on her. Lacey has to learn to let down her guard and trust Maddox.

No one knows Maddox and Lacey secretly married in Las Vegas two years ago. They are trying to work things out but Maddox has a bad reputation. He isn’t well liked by his teammates and he doesn’t have many friends. He has to prove himself to Lacey, the guys on the team and Lacey’s family. Maddox and Lacey care about each other but have a series of misunderstandings. I found it easy to like both Maddox and Lacey, they make a great couple and have a lot of chemistry.

Absolutely love this book. Maddox & Lacey I absolutely loved. Lacey kinda drove me insane with her insecurities where Maddox was concerned because he was so sweet and would do anything to be with his wife. Maddox is the bad boy but meeting Lacey made him a better man. Every character I love and can’t get enough of and I’m hoping there will be more in this series. Once you start reading you will not want to stop. I was hooked from the start. Another amazing read that everyone must read.

I really had trouble with the heroine in this book. The book starts off with a preface of Lacey and Maddox getting married in Vegas. Then Maddox wakes up to find that Lacey has disappeared. She has no real explanation except that her brother is a hockey player and a teammate of Maddox and she thinks Maddox is a player and will break her heart. So why did she agree to marry him? Why did she flee without saying anything to him? How immature is she?

Then she has a chance to get back together with him two years later. He’s trying as hard as possible to make it right with her and she seems to be willing to try except for every so many pages when she flips out again. She wants to trust him but also expects him to be cool with her being best friends with another player on his team who he doesn’t like. I just wanted to smack her sometimes.

I was given a free ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I was sent this book from Netgalley. My ratings and reviews will be my own personal opinions and are in no way influenced by publishers or authors who may have sent me books to review.

I love any kind of sports romance, so when I saw this on Netgalley, I immediately requested it. I did not realize it was actually the third book in the Breakaway series. As soon as I started reading I knew it was not the first book in series. There were several characters mentioned along with their past history with one another which I am assuming was covered in books one and two. I still was able to enjoy this, but should have read the first two books as I just prefer reading series in order.

I wish we could have seen more of the characters and the back story. We get a little bit during the prologue and within the first chapters of how Maddox and Lacey met and what happened in Vegas, but from there I just felt the relationship was a little flat. The story was cute, but nothing that blew me away or that was unique. I wanted more sports and romance!

I have really loved this series so I jumped on this book when it appeared on Netgalley for an ARC review. I read it in one sitting! Dover does another great job in bringing the whole team/crew/family/cast into the series again. I adore that! It makes the series so much more interesting! This book was somewhat predictable but not in the eye roll way. I mean you could almost tell what was going on but you did not focus on it because of the side/back stories going on, which were enriching to the whole series as well as this book. Also, this wasn't a delayed HEA that made you mad, it made you happy for the couple; that's rare. Overall one of the best in the series!

I love that Maddox behaves like a caveman! It makes the story so much interesting when the it feels like the tension is high. If you ask me... Lacey really wasted a lot of time. Because to her surprised he turned out to be better than expected and she had nothing to worry about. A bit childish but still. You see, he is just misunderstood. Everyone thinks he is no good because in the past he would go about things the wrong way. But when he really wants something and is committed, he is all in. He decides to grow up and show everyone what he can do. You will enjoy the interactions, how hot Maddox is, and the type of person he is. I certainly loved his character because he has this tiny bit of low self esteem cause by being constantly pushed down that makes him vulnerable. He is persistent, caring, swoon worthy, hard worker, tough on the outside and mushy inside. What is not to love?

I have to say that I have been waiting for Maddox and Lacey’s story. FINALLY!!!

As excited as I was for their story I totally hated the reason that Lacey left him in Vegas after their drunken two week stay and their Vegas wedding. I’m not sure why she went through with the wedding knowing who Maddox was and then just leaving him. So to get back at Lacey for leaving, Maddox is seen traipsing around with every female out there just to have a playboy image and an attempt at making Lacey jealous. I don’t understand how she can be upset with him for “cheating” when she did not give him her correct name and left him the day after they were married. They are both pretty immature and petty and not deserving of each other.

Let’s fast track to two years later when they have both grown up and have matured. Now we’re talking! You can finally connect with them as a couple and actually root for them and their relationship. Maddox has always been the jerk in this series so it was nice to see him put that aside and see how sweet he really is. Lacey and his love for her bring out the best in him and the softer, sweeter Maddox emerges. Lacey is pretty down to earth and easy to like most of the time. She doesn’t trust Maddox and I liked how she let him know that throughout the book. I have to say that Lacey’s insecurities drove me a little crazy. Towards the end of the book she finally chooses Maddox over others. I would have loved to see a little more build up between them as a couple though. I felt like that was missing in this story.

I’m a sucker for second chance romances. This was a sweet, easy to read sports romance and I am looking forward to Braedens story and more from the Charlotte Strikers.

I love the Striker series! Seeing the hot bad boys get tamed by a strong woman having her wicked way with them makes for a steamy quick read. Can't wait for the next one.

A really fun read. I didn't agree with. Ignoring your marriage part of storyline but it truly works because the romance factor of Maddox was awesome. He co,mes across sleazy but he's waiting for Lacey!! Lacey just needs a little convincing!

This book is everything! Closing off 2017 with this one definately made my book year. Amazing!

I was extremely excited to sink into this. However I felt I missed something . The connection between the characters was lost for me. The secret wedding Between Maddox and Lacey , and suddenly she changes her mind. She runs ,she disappears. However what’s revealed and how the time apart was handled just wasn’t enough. I expected more. Than they reconnect at a wedding and suddenly everything is still “ let just keep this a secret” so there is so much lack of intimacy. The relationship is being built behind closed doors that we didn’t really see. The majority of the book is a secret which would be fine however it felt impersonal . I understood the reasons behind the secrecy but it just wasn’t enough . This is just me , you may love it many others did. It has a great second chance romance feel to it.
