Description

He knows every play in the book. But she’s calling the shots.

“An epic story of the one that got away—Maddox will totally surprise readers in a lovely, lovely way.”—Sawyer Bennett

I’m Maddox Ledger, all-star winger and the reason the Charlotte Strikers killed it in the playoffs. Yeah, the tabloids like to call me arrogant. A real hothead. All I see is a guy who plays to win. Wreaking havoc on the ice, breaking a few hearts—that’s all just part of the game. And I’m sure as hell not sitting on the bench.

When my teammate asks me to be in his wedding party, I can’t refuse. Lucky for me, the bridesmaid I’m paired with is the definition of eye candy, but she’s so much more than that. Lacey Easton is totally irresistible and she makes me want to be a better man. A glimpse of bare shoulder takes me back to a steamy, two-week Vegas tryst I can’t forget. One I’m eager to repeat.

Suddenly our one-night stand is turning into the sequel. Still, Lacey’s keeping secrets. She doesn’t trust me. And maybe I deserve it. But I know more than she thinks I do and there’s no chance I’m letting her get away—or letting another guy take what is mine. This time, I’m playing for keeps.

This is the story of Lacey and Maddox. On a 2-week trip to Las Vegas, Lacey and Maddox fell in love. On a whim, they got married. It was the greatest might of Maddox's life. However, when he awoke the next morning, she was gone and had taken the marriage license with her. Maddox spent the years looking for her. Only to find out she is the sister of one of his teammates on the ice hockey team. Her brother is not a fan of his. Two years later, he sees her and they pretend they do not know each other. She is enraged that he would forget her and their marriage. He did say anything because he wanted her to make the first move. Now they are participants in a wedding and are paired together. It is the time that everything comes to a head. He wants to prove to her that he could be a great husband and also prove to her brother and teammates that he is a changed man.

Maddox's character would ramp this story to a 3.5 star rating. He was persistent. He wanted to really show her how faithful he was, no matter what it seemed (since he made it look like he dated and slept with multiple women while they were married), that he wanted everything to work by changing anything for her, and that she could trust him with her heart. I like a good chase and he did that in spades. However, Lacey's character dragged this book to a rating of 2.5 stars. She kept stating that she wanted it to work but she kept throwing the fact that he was photographed with other women, even though he kept telling her that he never slept with any of them and he did that to make her jealous so she could come back to him. Between those 2 ratings it evens it out to a 3 star.

This is a typical sports romance. It was a quick read. Sometimes I was confused with all the characters and their relation to each other. If you like a happily ever after then this is the book for you.
