I'm someone that ALWAYS finishes a book. no matter what. However, I just could not get through this book. I found myself skipping around. I liked the concept but the story just fell short. It was kinda silly but it wasn't supposed to be. I know most people loved this book but I just could not do it.
I did not enjoy this book and skipped parts of it. In my opinion it was silly, unrealistic.
I absolutely love this series and Playmaker did not disappoint. Maddox and Lacey are a perfect match. Lacey ran from Maddox years before, but never stopped loving him. Maddox tried to get Lacey back, but went about it the wrong way. After their paths cross, feelings resurface and Maddox will do anything to get Lacey back. Maddox is a big strong alpha male who is so tender and caring towards Lacey. Lacey is such a stubborn woman and won’t give in easily. I did not want to put the book down once I started it. You instantly fall in love with all of the characters, what a great series.
This was a well written, engaging and fairly quick read which I really enjoyed. This is the third book in the Breakaway series.
Maddox and Lacey's story becomes one that turns out very sweet and romantic after different events take place. When all of the drama was set aside and feelings were finally freely expressed, Maddox will capture your heart. For me, Lacey took a little bit longer to warm up to because she was a little too headstrong and stubborn. Maddox is a big strong alpha male who is so tender and caring towards Lacey.

There's nothing I love more than a good sports romance, especially a second chance one. Maddox was so great, but I just feel like the character of Lacey fell too short. She just kept torturing the poor guy who was doing everything in his power to get the girl. She kept blaming it on hockey players, yet was surrounded by good relationships of those that play hockey. The story just needed a stronger female character to be a match for Maddox who was swoon worthy.
I just loved Maddox. Underneath his bad boy persona he was really a great guy. Lacey brought out the best in him. This was a great second chance sports romance. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.

This was just another 'okay' read in this series, unfortunately. We met both Maddox and Lacey in the last book since Maddox plays for the same hockey team as Lacey's brother. They saw each other at the wedding of Dallas & Callie, so we knew something was up with them, but we had to wait until this book to get the complete story and their HEA. I really had high hopes, anticipated to hear a lot about how they fell in love and the build-up to the current time (2 years after they married), but we're left without any of the 'love story' really.
We get a brief summary of what happened in Vegas and how they ended up married 2 years ago. We learn that Lacey left him the next day (with a fake name, so he didn't know who she was), but Maddo hired a PI to track her down and Maddox decided to be photographed with other women to make her jealous and come back to him. Only she stays away since she's hurt - I mean what did she expect when the women he loved left him after their wedding. I don't think Maddox went about things the right way, but I got it. And Lacey annoyed me with her hesitancy to give Maddox a chance simply because he was a hockey player and she 'knew how they were' with women. It was just very judgmental and set her in a bad light.
Eventually, Maddox does break her down and she decides to give him a chance, although she's living in NYC and he in NC initially. Lacey changes her residency to a hospital in NC and then things really begin to fall into place for them. I honestly expected a lot of drama surrounding their relationship once they decided to try and make things work. But other than Braedan causing trouble for a while and Laura who didn't want to take no for an answer, that was about it. Everything just kind of wrapped itself up in a pretty bow and that made the book a bit boring.
The book is sweet, so if all you want is sweetness with just a tiny bit of drama, then you'll enjoy this. But if you like a good love story and watching a relationship grow, you'll be missing that in this one since it cruises past all that to the marriage and a baby. Maddox's reaction to the reveal at the end was utterly adorable though. *swoon*

Maddox Ledger met the girl all men dream of finding, had an amazing time with her in Vegas, and then Poof! she was gone and it hurt a little more than he cared to admit. When she left she took a little part of him and he has yet been able to fully move on, she just completely vanished from his life without so much as a goodbye and he just doesn't understand why... he thought he had finally found something good in his life. But he's about to have the opportunity to ask her that question, because they just so happen to be attending the same wedding and he isn't about to let her getaway this time without a goodbye... and maybe a little more!
The moment Lacey met Maddox she knew he was trouble, but she just couldn't help herself and she had to know more about hockey's biggest badboy. One look at him and she is completely weak in the knees, and doing things completely out of character, and it scared the crap out of her, especially for someone to have that much power over her... so she runs. She knows leaving him in their shared hotel room without so much as a goodbye is wrong on so many levels, but she isn't about to be the on the receiving end of a hurtful goodbye, so she will just be the one to end things first. But unfortunately for her it hurts just as much, and the months following don't seem to ease the ache in her heart, if only she had a chance to make it right...
Between the pages of this wonderfully crafted tale you will find two people who are scared to admit to themselves that they belong with one another, their chance meeting in Las Vegas brings about a sneaky little affair that gives them both far more than they bargained for... and it leaves them both a little unsettled. Neither of them were looking for love, more so just a fun night or two between the sheets, but they found it in that hotel room, and then in a blink of an eye it was gone, lucky for them fate is willing to give them a second shot at capturing it all over again. Playmaker was such a enjoyable read, it had a sexy hockey star willing to lay his heart on the line to swoon over, a ballsy heroine who pushes his buttons and puts him through the ringer a time or two to root for, and a steamy little love affair that spawned some seriously hot scenes that had my tablet overheating!! I have to say this one is definitely one of my favorites from this author, it was a well rounded emotionally rich read that left my heart overflowing, and put a unshakable smile on my face!! Highly recommend this one!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title.
I was very excited for this book as I really liked blocked, Maddox turned out to be a really great guy but I could not stand Lacey I am trying to find out where her insecurities with hockey player relationships came from when all the relationships around her are great.
What happens in Vegas never truly stays there as we witness in the Playmaker. Lacey and Maddox spend a wild two weeks in Vegas with Lacey, his teammates sister. Maddox doesn't know it's her and Lacey doesn't tell him due to the animosity between the two. One thing leads to another and the pair find themselves getting married in Vegas. Lacey experiences buyers remorse and flees the scene the next morning and takes any evidence of the marriage with her including rings and the certificate. My biggest issue, as it seems to be with everyone else, is that they fall in love behind the scenes. We go from her not wanting anything to do with him to her moving for him. We never get to experience that buildup between the couple and as a result, I didn't care much for them at all. Braeden was awful and just couldn't seem to respect Lacey's decision. The book had so much potential and it didnt live up to it at all.
I write this review with very mixed feelings. On the one hand, I loved Maddox, and I was very excited to read his story and catch up with Dallas and Callie from Blocked. On the other hand, I spent most of the book wanting to bitch-slap Lacey in hopes that it would knock her ridiculous insecurities right out of her head, to hopefully be replaced with common sense. She is the epitome of a hypocrite. She doesn't trust Maddox in any situation, but she expects him to trust her as she maintains a friendship with Braeden (who acted like a total douche, and whom I hope doesn't get his own story--why would Sophia even give him the time of day after how he acted?). Lacey is supposed to be an extremely intelligent woman (she's a medical doctor!), but she is about as stupid as they come in the romance department. So, back on track: I adored Maddox, I found myself skimming the passages where Lacey was acting ridiculous and where Braeden's name even appeared, and then I was relieved when she began to act like an intelligent person who chose her husband over her best friend. I like this author and her writing style, but in this case, I wish she had created a female character that was worthy of such a strong alpha male's devotion.
I had a difficult time getting into this novel.. There was very back story to support Lacey’s (seemingly unreasonable) about face and abandonment of Maddox - or why he would want to try to maintain a relationship with her. He came across as an idiot and she a shrew....I just couldn’t see any chemistry.
Maddox had best two weeks of his life in Vegas 4 years ago, resulting in him marrying the girl he was with. She left him in the morning with no note, took the marriage license, and their rings. Flash forward 4 year later and the cat is out of the bag sorta. Lacey does not want to admit she is married to Maddox to anyone. Maddox wants to stay married and make the relationship work. It becomes a battle of wills and who will bend for who. Maddox has to work for Lacey and his HEA.
I am adoring the Breakaway series. Can't wait to read the next one.
I have read this entire series and this is book 3. Many times a book you are waiting for does not live it up to expectations but this book was just as much fun as I was expecting. This is the story about Mason and his runaway bride Lacey.
In this story we see Dallas' wedding and Mason finally lets Lacey know he remembers her and wants her back as a wife. He works hard to make that happen by becoming friends with Dallas and by flying to see her in NY and convincing her to move to town, so they can be together.
Thrown in the mix is Mason's jealousy over Laceys friendship with her best friend, his teammate. This is his story on how he convinces Lacey to give their marriage a shot and he worked hard for that chance. And it made me love his character so much.
This was a wonderful story and I loved every minute. It was fun, flirty and I cannot put it down. It stands alone but I suggest you read at least book 2 in the series as it introduces the characters and their story.
Playmaker was an fast, fun, easy read. I really enjoyed this book. L. P. Dover did it again, a fantastic book. Lacey and Maddox has great chemistry. I didn't want to like Maddox but I think he might be my favorite. You can read this book as a stand alone however the others in the series are great also. I love that the author includes previous characters into the story. I would recommend this book.
Love this author and absolutely love this book. Maddox and Lacey impulsively got married in Las Vegas after 2 weeks of getting to know each other, but Lacey skipped out the next morning. Two years later, a wedding brings them back together! It's a story of love finding a way to overcome fear, mistrust and distance. LP Dover created wonderful characters and a great plot line. I could not put this book down. What a fantastic way to spend a Saturday!!
Maddox had waited patiently for Lacey for two years. After she left, he was hesitant to approach her and made mistakes hoping she would eventually crawl back to him. Their secret marriage very few knew about reminded him that she would always be his. Now, the waiting is over and he is desperate to remind Lacey why they fell in love in the first place. Explosive chemistry and absolutely hilarious. Will Lacey finally accept that Maddox will always be hers?
This is the first story I’ve read in the Breakaway series but now I’m going to have to get the others. The story is heartbreaking and heartwarming. Maddox has never felt good enough. During spring break in Vegas Maddox and Lacey get secretly married. Due to issues all does not run smoothly. Maddox wants Lacey but Lacey is scared. It is so entertaining to watch how this relationship goes. The secondary characters play so much into the story that I felt how the circle of friends and relatives interacted. The author is great at keeping the story flowing so I didn’t want to set it down. Also the character development made me feel like I knew them and could see how the story played out. I really appreciated how the story ended leaving little to be questioned about where these two fit. I hope there will be more in this series because this is a series I would follow.
This is the third book in series, it is about Maddox and Lacey. In the first book we did not like Maddox, he came off as cocky and arrogant and worse a manwhore. We got too know him a little better in the second book and he wasn't as bad. But in this one, you understand why he was the way he was, and it is sad. Then you find the real him. Lacey is Dallas's sister, Dallas is from second book, in the ending of the last book, you find out that Lacey married Maddox in Vegas, and then left him with no word and now she is acting as if she does not know him. Now what happens, does Maddox go after her? Does she really have a relationship with Braeden..Well my friends read and find out.
