Lily the frog imagines and tries to decide how she will grow and what she will do. The illustrations are claymation style and it is wonderful.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the eARC
So pretty and fantastical, love it! You will follow adventures of a little frog in this clay modeling book through the pages filled with whimsical photographs.
this was a fun book, I loved the art, it was so well done. The story was super fun and imaginative! My kids loved it, they stayed engaged with the story and enjoyed having so much to find in the pictures, there was so much detail!
This is a charming little story about a frog who is enthusiastically thinking of all the things she could be in the future. She dresses up and she's very cute in her costumes.
Claytown Press and Net Galley let me read this book for review. It will be published January 1, 2018.
The frogs are made from colored modelling clay and are very realistic. With great graphics and the enthusiasm of the little frog featured, it's fun book to read.
I'm a big fan of Claymation and soft sculpture so I was very excited to pick up this book!.
I really loved the images, the amount of detail in the work here, there clearly was a lot of passion put into every scene for these little frogs. It may have been due to this being a digital copy but there seemed to be some inconsistencies with images sizing and background colors - sometimes the page would have a white background and other times a white one which did a disservice to the artwork being presented here. This may very well be the kind of book you sit with in hardback and flip through just to look at because the story almost seemed like an after thought. As though the author went "I've made some marvelous different sets, how can I tie them all together", if the story had come back to the little girl occasionally between fantasy scenes then it may have felt a bit more legitimately grounded in how she was feeling.
Visuals though are simply top notch, lovely frogs and such a creative way to illustrate any story. I hope to see more artists/authors experiment this way.
This is the most unique book I have ever read and the illustrations/sculptures were amazingly fun! The story-line involves a young girl frog pondering what the future might hold for her. The images are incredible and make me excited to incorporate a "claytown" of our own in our household soon!
This book has to be seen to be believed, although you can look at some illustrations on the author's book website: http://lilypondbook.com. Make sure you type only a total of two Ls in Lily! Otherwise the entire Internet will break down, weeping and not knowing where to go or what to do!
I don't know how someone can find the patience to do something like this, with this level of inventiveness, let along find the time - and the skill in the first place - but she did it, and it's awesome to behold. This is why she's known for her art work on movies like Toy Story, James and the Giant Peach, and The Nightmare Before Christmas (she's on IMDB!).
The story is of the cutely-named Lily Pond (no relation to Amy Pond as far as I know), on the cusp of her eight birthday, imagining with great imagination all the things she can do or be, and the adventures she will have as she matures. She has a bunch of choices as does any young girl who wants to follow her own dream and is willing to go after it fiercely enough. This story is inspirational, informative, and beautifully illustrated with the photographs of the painstaking clay sculptures the author created. Amazing! I recommend this highly.
This book is ADORABLE. The Claymation style illustrations are a treat, and the story itself is fun. Lily Pond is laying in bed and wondering what she'll be when she grows up, imagining all the options. The story is told in a rhyming pattern that feels like one of the best Dr. Seuss books, and it's the perfect length for a bedtime story. Definitely a great addition to any child's bookshelf.
a really uniquely illustrated children's book, the 3D'ness of the clay figures brings this cute story to life.
The scenes in this book were sculpted from modeling clay, which makes this a unique children's book that captures a child's imagination of what their future holds. This is a really cute book for children around age 5 or 6.
I had trouble enjoy this story, but I love books that have clay modeling for the pictures.
This book was amazing! I initially got it from Netgally (thank you for the free copy in exchange for my honest review) before a long flight over the Atlantic, knowing well that my three year old would get bored quickly.
But even before our bags were packed completely, the two of us were pouring over the imaginative pages on my Kindle screen not caring what else is going on around us. I'm not sure who enjoyed the sculpted world more, me or my son.
It was practically mind-blowing that someone can not only physically accomplish something so beautiful, but also has such a magnificent fantasy world. And being invited to it as a guest felt truly exhilarating.
I'm usually a tough crowd for any books, stories, artwork as I'm an artist and writer myself and care for a solid idea behind every masterpiece. I've developed a three E theory. Every book should educate, entertain and elevate its reader. And this book does that and more. It's heartwarming and charming. It's inspiring in so many more ways than just books or literature. It will make you giggle and it will entice your appetite for more.
I would totally recommend this book to every parent. And we're on a lookout for Shelley's next books.
Don't bother reading this one for plot. There isn't much of one. Flip through it once to admire the clay-type illustrations
The art in “Lily Pond” was absolutely amazing. I couldn’t believe how detailed each scene was. The story itself was imaginative, but I really enjoyed the photos.
This is a story of Lily and her dreams of the future. The story is simple, but the pictures are amazing. Lily and her dreams are brought to life in full claymation. It unique, and quite lovely.
Rhyming couplets tell the story of Lily Pond, who is not a place but rather a frog. She likes to think about the future—jobs, marriage, kids, travel—on the eve of her eighth birthday.
The highlight of the text is an interesting manufactured rhyme for “twice.”
From the cover it’s easy to see how the artwork is going to be, and it’s fun. The clay models look strikingly 3-D even on paper or pixel. This book is worth it just for that.
This is a highly imaginative book that young kids will love. Lily, a young frog, uses her imagination to try and decide what she will be when she grows up. The frogs are a hoot, they are fun and doing all sorts of silly things. The illustrations are claytoons that are colourful, vibrant and three dimensional which look alive. It is never too early for kids to think about what they will do when they are older. This is a fun book that could also be used in an art lesson for working with clay or plastiscene. A wonderful book for an elementary school or family library. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley.
This book of claytoons (clay art) is exceptionally fun, vibrant and alive, teaching kids how to use their imaginations, in trying to see themselves into someone wonderful or great when they grow up. Its an educative, fun, quirky and immensely entertaining, the claytown was a work of an imaginative genius, the colors are awesome and the characters are way cool and quirky, nicely done, I like the effect and the lesson it teaches, I believe every child should be able to start using their imagination at an early age, thumbs up for a job well done.
