Novelists Lisa Scottoline and Francesca Serritella team up for the eighth time in their newest release this summer of I See Life Through Rose-Colored Glasses. They are known for a series of entertaining mother-daughter humor books which combine entries from their “Chick Wit” column for the Philadelphia Inquirer along with new material. The authors offer differing perspectives between Scottoline’s amusing outlook on aging and Serritella’s dating ups and downs.

Scottoline’s style is spare and full of hilarious one-liners (e.g., on Brawny paper towels, “I’ve never relied on a paper towel to give me strength. I have chocolate for that”. Serritella writes for the younger crowd. Their pets also feature strongly in the book.

The book is marketed as “a glass of rosé, between two covers”. If you enjoyed the duos earlier offerings, you will enjoy this latest addition.

Thank you St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book and for allowing me to review it.

I loved this book so much!! If you are a fan of Lisa's, you will love her commentary in this book. She wrote this with her daughter - Francesca. I love the mother'-daughter relationship that was so very well played out. There were times I missed talking to my mother. I laughed and I cried through several sections -- they are both so incredibly funny and sentimental.

This book is HILARIOUS. Laugh-out-loud hilarious. I really didn't know what to expect as I have not listened/read a book by this mother/daughter duo, but I can tell you, this one will not be my last!!
They narrate this book themselves and that adds to the fun as they get all the notes right in the stories they are telling and their tones and sarcasm and wit really come through.
There were several stories that were just meh, but not enough to ruin this book for me. And when Lisa talks about the passing of her beloved Corgi and starts crying while talking - well, lets just say if you don't shed a tear with her, you must not have any heart at all.

I will put this warning in - there are moments of swearing and vulgarity, mostly from Lisa [though Francesca has several moments as well], but again it was not enough to ruin the book for me [and really, in one of the stories from Francesca, the swearing was very, very fitting].

If you love a mother/daughter vibe and enjoy books that make you laugh, I recommend this one highly.

**Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin Press for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. **

I thoroughly enjoyed this collection of essays (blogs) written by the mother/daughter team! I laughed out loud many times while reading it and I found it all rather entertaining. It appears that I am roughly the same age as LS and my daughter is close in age to FS, so their reactions match our own. I cannot wait to share this book with her!

Many thanks to the publisher and to NetGalley for an ARC; all opinions are my own.

I loved these hysterical columns. As a woman of a certain age, I could relate to these mother and daughter comments on life, love, and everything in between. The cover and title are perfect for this light, beach-ready book. If you need something to cleanse your palate between heavier stories, this is the book for you.

Another great read by this mother and daughter team. Lisa and Francesca bring humor to everyday life situations that we can all relate to.

Mother and Daughter are at it again with a wonderful collection of humorous antidotes from their family's daily lives. It was a fun read!

This mother daughter duo--outspoken, plainspoken, just like family women have done it again! The essays that make up the book are the stuff of everyday life, only seen through the lens of a couple of very witty women. If you like dogs, gardens, family and NYC, this is for you!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book courtesy of NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I enjoyed the writing style of both the mother and daughter authors. I liked the format of the book being in short unrelated chapters. It was great to pick up when I had the time and not feel I needed to finish it in one sitting. The stories were relatable and humorous. It was fun to laugh at myself and comforting to know I’m not the only one to feel this way.

I enjoyed this book. I would say it's a favorite but it definitely kept me entertained throughout. Definitely a nice beach read.

I absolutely love Lisa Scottoline, but I was unaware she wrote essay collections with her daughter. I had read a non-fiction book from her before and enjoyed it, but this was great.

One thing I adore in her mystery/suspense novels are the close relationships the women experience with each other as friends and with their own families. It's this warmth and humor that I feel separates Ms. Scottoline as fiction suspense author. She brings that same humor and warmth into these essays and you can feel the closeness she shares with her daughter jumping off the page.

I especially enjoyed the essays about getting older, but there are so many high points in this book.

Curl up for an afternoon and enjoy!

Little vignettes told by Lisa Scottoline or her daughter, Francesca Serritella, about everyday life, but all told with a happy ending or “up” message. Unfortunately, I didn’t find many of these stories to be very unique or with any kind of clever twist to make them special enough to put into a book. I could tell after the first couple passages (they’re each about 2-3 pages long), that I wasn’t going to enjoy the book very much, but I continued in hopes that I might find something good. I didn’t. But, the stories aren’t long and it was very light reading, and now I know what to expect. I think I’ll stick to Scottoline’s mystery books going forward.

One of my new favorite summer traditions is reading the latest collection of essays from one of my favorite authors, Lisa Scottoline, and her daughter Francesca.

This summer's offering, I See Life Through Rose-Colored Glasses does not disappoint. Topics covered this year includes advice from Francesca on how to break-up with a significant other, a trip to see Lady Gaga, rants about dresses made with sewn in bras, air conditioning (or lack of air conditioning), and more!

This year's installment also came with a product recommendation. According to Lisa she only endorses her books, but even she couldn't keep quiet about the Negg. I am not going to lie, I went directly to Amazon and made the purchased based purely on her recommendation.

I am off that age where I can relate to both Francesca and Lisa. I remember all of the issues that come with being in the dating world like Francesca, but I also can relate to some of the aging issues that Lisa likes to write about. The whole book is just so darn relatable, I can't help but gush about it.

Bottom Line - Even if you are not into the mysteries and legal thrillers that Lisa Scottoline writes the rest of the year, you really should check out the series of essays that she publishes with her daughter every summer. They are chalk full of one-liners that are guaranteed to make you laugh out loud ("Gravity is real, people.") and stories that will make you feel as if you have a new pair of best friends. It is just refreshing and entertaining and not to be missed.

I See Life Through Rose-Colored Glasses is the latest collaboration between Lisa Scottoline and her daughter Francesca Serrittella. Like the others in the series, the essays are the perfect quick read when you just need a break from life. Scottoline and Serrittella talk about what it means to be human, and women, with wit and candor.

I look forward to these collaborations, and this one did not disappoint. This was very easy to read, flowed well, and was quite entertaining. Both authors are very relatable; they style of writing makes it seems like a friend is talking. I really enjoyed it!

I SEE LIFE THROUGH ROSE-COLORED GLASSES - Lisa Scottoline

I FEEL RIGHT AT HOME WITH LISA AND FRANCESCA - 4 stars

Plot - 4 stars - Another collection of brief vignettes about life that Lisa and Francesca make interesting with their cleverness and ability to look at ordinary things in a quirky way. Some of my favorites include: Adults Only (Lisa) about adulting, RequiAIM (Francesca) about AOL Instant Messaging, Move Over, Laika (Lisa), Judge Scottoline (Lisa) about being judgy, Out of Order (Francesca) about home repairs, Francesca Serritella, Attorney at Paw (Francesca) about protecting the pets, and Legalize Pots (Lisa) about gardening.

Writing - 5 stars - I very much admire people who can tell a story about something ordinary and add the nuances and clever phrasing that makes it hilarious. Both Lisa and Francesca have that knack. Their look at ordinary life is fun and funny and extremely entertaining.

Characters - 4 stars - Well, the characters are the authors. They, admittedly, are not the typical 9-5 workers since they are both writers, but their activities are the same as most everyone else, plus they know how to put a hilarious spin on them. I'd love to meet them and hang around with them, although I think I'd be intimidated by their clever quickness.

Title - 3 stars - The title is funny is a punny way, but I always find it a little disconcerting that the title has nothing at all to do with any of the vignettes included. It seems like there should be some connection with at least one of the stories.

Cover - 4 stars - The cover matches the title and is colorful and eye-catching. I guess that's all you need.

Overview - 4 stars - I always know I'm going to have an entertaining few hours when I pick up one of these books. I particularly like reading Lisa's stories because we're about the same age so we have experienced many of the same things and see life in a very similar way. My favorite stories are about the aging process and how she handles it. She certainly takes the pain out of it and makes aging seem fun and trendy. Francesca seems a little more reserved and offers stories surrounding her life as a millennial, which is less of a connection for me, although I love her lower-key style. So much fun--I can't get enough of these.

As usual Lisa and her daughter Francesca deliver great stories with a bit a humor and that we can all relate to. Their lives are on different paths but their stories can touch us all in so many different ways. The way that they write makes you feel like you are their personal friends and I always look forward to the next book to catch up with what they've been doing!

The mother daughter duo write about their lives and things that annoy them. It made me laugh out loud.
I enjoy these books when they come out in the summer.

Seeing life through the lens of this mother-daughter team is hilarious, touching, and real. This collection of stories is totally relatable, they invite us into their imperfect lives and allow us to join in the comedic side of life.

No subject is off limits, from a do it yourself colonoscopy, to peeling a hard-boiled egg and giving up a pool chair to a pool bully.
Lisa points out the incongruities of growing older and the way in which we cope with emerging technologies (Live Feeds), news stories on Facebook (it's all true especially the snake coming out of the toilet), a favorite uncle Mikey who brings Christmas presents that fell off of the back of a truck and the power of steroids to heal a sore throat while providing the energy to accomplish everything needed for Christmas.
Francesca navigates us through her dating world, planning her birthday, and knowing when it is over as evidenced by a ravaged birthday cake. Her empathy and love for her pets shine through in her advocacy for air conditioning and a dog stroller for Ruby, "Francesca Serritella, Attorney at Paw."

The stories are a must read for this summer, this writing duo has an endless supply of everyday occurrences for us to laugh with them and at ourselves.
