publisher synopsis: If high school has taught mathlete Jade Aaron anything, it's that nerds never get the guy.
So when rock star Lennon Pryor starts pursuing her, It's not rocket science. This doesn't add up.
I mean, sure, he's hot.
And charming.
And a god on the guitar...
But he's also the world's biggest player. Being with him would be a bigger mistake than 2+2=5.
Until graduation night, when a reckless moment leads to a reckless kiss. And now Jade's falling for the one guy destined to break her heart.
Cute, fun read!! I like the whole yin and yang that they had going on. They were opposites, but complimented each other very well! This was a great story and very clean. I like how the characters put themselves out there, how there had been feelings for years and the relationship started as a friendship.
I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.
A story about friendship and love, believing in your dreams, and the enduring hope of maybe someday. I was transported back to high school remembering the hard decisions that you have to make when you transition from "child" to adult.
Very good story! However, it was drug out soooo much! I think the story would be have much better without all the filler fluff. We understood they were attracted to each other and didn't need it retold over and over and over again!
With that being said, it was a great story. I LOVED that it was an all day event with a small several months/years later chapter.
Each character was great and I enjoyed them.
I'd give this author another go with the hope that the next story isn't as repetitive with the feels.
The third and final book in the Grad Night series, Love Beyond Opposites focuses on Jade and Lennon. They made appearances in the first two books, but nothing was revealed about their story.
Each book weaves the plot together at the graduation party with some shared scenes and characters, but none of them feel like a retread of the others.
Lennon is a rockstar. He is hosting the party and performing with his band. Everything has to be perfect because someone is coming who might help them make an album and expand their tour. He has a hard time resisting spending time with Jade, though, when he's had feelings for her since Freshman Year.
Jade is a mathlete and also had feelings for Lennon but is sure she's not his type. Over the course of one night and one party can they finally come together or is it too late now that they've graduated?
I really enjoyed all three books in the series, but I feel like I connected most with Jade and Lennon. Their struggles with their families, their plans after graduation, and with their relationship felt realistic and made me root for them to work it out.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book had an amazing cover & I couldnt wait to read it ...but it was unable to keep my attention past the first chapter. Will try to read this book agsin in the future .
Love Beyond Opposites is the third and final book in the Grad Night series by Molly E. Lee. It follows Jade Aaron and Lennon Pryor (whom, I would like to shout out, plays guitar, so I am counting him as a musician and I love romances with muscians/rockstars). It is amazing how different each character is, Of course, this can fall into the category of the invisible-ish nerd girl falling for the "rockstar" A-crowd guy. But they just work together somehow and it's really sweet. Lennon would have pursued earlier on, but there were some things preventing that, and I honestly felt devastated. Molly did a wonderful job. It's sad that this book is ended. I would love to see more from her.
This bk was the perfect follow up to Lee’s Love Between Enemies and the perfect finale to her Grad Night series. Lennon and Jade are polar opposites. She’s a math nerd and closet artist and he’s just biding his time til he can be a rock star. These characters perfectly played off of each other and the course of the book there wasn’t a single moment I wasn’t rooting for them!!
Lennon Pryor and Jade Aaron attend the same high school. Jade is a math nerd and Lennon is an aspiring rock star. They shouldn't even breathe the same air.
For four years their unlikely friendship is nurtured but a well meaning conversation between Lennon and his father, prevents anything further developing. That is until grad night, four years later!
This is one of the sweetest coming of age love stories I've ever read. There is nothing, except perhaps the clichéd nerd and rockstar lovebirds, to detract from this, the newest addition to Molly E Lee's 'Grad Night' series.
I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone ready to explore the romance genre. Jade and Lennon's HEA is in no way hindered by the absence of more intimate scenes which, in my opinion, makes it perfect for the YA market.
A sweet and well deserved 5*
This is the 3rd in the Grad Night series, but can be read as stand alone novel. I skipped the 2nd one I'd found after hating Zoey and Gordon's story (and not realizing this was in the same series) and was completely fine. All 3 are about totally different characters.
This book was cute and sweet, very well written, with well developed characters. Also, I think the POV with a boy with an unrequited crush is my new fave. So adorable. I honestly liked Lennon as an MC much more than I liked Jade.
The only criticism I have about the book was the sliiiiiight unrealism with interactions with adults or a couple of lines where the teens were just waaaaay mature beyond teenagers. I know kids can be mature for their age, but I teach seniors in high school and know that though they *can*, 99% aren't. Barely noticeable though. Oh, and the whole "she's a nerd" thing. Just a personal annoyance.
I thought it was cute how they'd known each other for all of high school, and had a standing tradition of chatting in between math team practice but had never progressed further than that. They tease each other with their stereotype nicknames which was precious and seem to be fairly compatiable despite only having 15 minute conversations a few times a week.
On the night on graduation, Lennon decides tonight is the night, his last chance to not regret anything in high school. At the same time, Jade has decided she needs to be a new and improved version of herself and take risks she normally wouldn't. They end up back at the high school, breaking in to find a flash drive of music, crashing the party Gordon didn't know was being thrown, buying clothes from a gas station, and stranded on the side of the road. Unlike Farris Bueller's Day Off, I loved that all that they did seemed feasible in the time constraint of one night.
You know from the beginning that Lennon has had a thing for Jade since they first met, but seeing her slowly (and sometimes not so slowly) realize that she liked him too was done so well. Very subtely, and yet not at all. Kind of like falling in love in high school.
If you like fast paced books, opposite characters, boys with unrequited crushes, and nights you'll never forget, this book is definitely for you. Definitely a quick, cute, enjoyable read that I would definitely recommend to my girlfriends.
The beginning was a bit slow but it really picked up the pace. Jade and Lennon are opposites but both have passion about what they love to do. Some parts were laugh out loud funny and others were very swoony. Jade and Lennon out on their own was my favorite part. You see some background into the other Grad Night books. Overall this was a one day read, perfect for the summer reading list. I received an ebook at no charge for which I voluntarily provided an honest review.
Thank You Netgalley and to the Publisher for the advance review copy!
Fun. Fast. And easy read. This is what I would like to read in a summer vacation by the beach. The story is fast paced. I am really into a rockstar guy main character, no wonder I decided to request this in Netgalley for an advance copy. The only thing I don’t like about this book is how over confident the main male character. Well don’t get me wrong, but it just become so annoying that it keeps on mentioning how great and how talented he is and how he is meant to be a rockstar. I get it. It just made me frustrated sometimes. But then it doesn’t affect my view of the story. Its cute, and very much recommended for young teens who want some simple romance.
Overall, I would dedinitely check out some of Molly’s books. This book may be a part of a series but it is a stand alone. Would like to see how other books will be.
This book was a nice change. It was a fun, light hearted read. I really enjoyed it.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own
Super-cute, light, romance between two high school grads who have been friends for all 4 years but both secretly have a crush on the other--the mathlete and the rock star. It was a nice story--they ended up spending time together and realized they like each other and then there was of course a conflict, and then they made up and live happily ever after. It was predictable and a fast read--I finished it a couple of hours, but a cute story nonetheless--I liked Lennon and Jade--interesting characters. Thanks for the ARC, NetGalley!
This is Molly E. Lee's 3rd book in the Grad Night series of standalone titles and this is by far my favorite! I really enjoyed the other two novels but this one just was a delight to read and I couldn't put it down. Jade and Lennon meet as freshman but up and coming rockstar Lennon is warned by his math teacher father to leave Jade alone, no matter how interesting she seems. Jade, a brilliant math student and secret graphic novel designer, is mesmerized by Lennon at their first meeting as well but it isn't until their graduation night when things start to fall into place for these two. Over the course of high school they have spent time together and become friends while pushing their feelings for each other aside. On the night of Lennon's party (and a huge night in his career), Jade and Lennon find themselves in situations that show them that maybe holding back on those feelings just isn't worth it anymore. I loved the banter between these two teenagers who are about to go on and face the world. The relationships between their parents and the struggles of two young adults deciding what to do next also was a part of this story. The best parts were the interactions between Jade and Lennon as they realized their true feelings and faced them! I also loved the revisiting of characters from the other two Grad Night books. Well done by Lee and I am thrilled I got to read an arc! Thank you netgalley for this copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
Jade Aaron is a mathlete, a nerd, the type of girl Lennon Pryor would never in a million years be interested in - or so she thinks. With gradation coming up she can't wait to get to UCLA and be able to pursue the art degree her mother thinks is a waste of time. She should be pursuing a more logical degree in mathematics. But just once Jade wants to live a little. Starting with attending Lennon Pryor's graduation bash.
Lennon Pryor has his eye on the prize, he's thisclose to signing a record deal for his band with a label that will extend their three-month tour opening for the BlackHats and get them an album. He doesn't have time to start a relationship he'll just end up abandoning. But he can't stop thinking about Jade Aaron, the girl he's wanted to be with since the first time he saw her freshman year.
It's graduation night, and it will be a wild, life changing ride.
I really loved this book. When I requested it I didn't realize it was the third book in (what I believe is) a trilogy but this book can be read as a standalone. I love any book where the male main character is a rock star and this book shows Lennon on the brink of stardom and not wanting to miss out on the girl he's always wanted.
I loved that Jade was an artist who was working on a graphic novel, it made her such a cool character. Jade's mother, on the other hand, was so out of line in the beginning trying to discourage Jade's passion. I hate parent characters like that but it seems to be a popular trope.
This book is a fun, fast read. I devoured it in an afternoon on a snow day and the time flew by.
Overall, this book is perfect for anyone looking for a quick, cute read about getting a chance with someone you never thought would be interested in you.
Awe Lennon and Jade. They made my heart full. I love the banter between them. At first glance one would think a rock star and a mathlete are complete opposites but once you dive in past the surface and get to know Lennon and Jade you can see they are a perfect match. You understand the fears of Lennon wanting to start relationship just as they all graduated. But once the Grad night commences and the mayhem that follows Jade and Lennon's night you just hope he finally just jumps. After 4 years of fighting his feeling for Jade I love how it all goes down. I love how you get a little bit of Fynn and Bray in this one too. These friends are amazingly supportive of each other. I laughed out loud with this one and got the awe feeling along the way. This series has been amazing. I don't know if I'm ready for them to all go just yet. But in the end you know that Jade and Lennon, Fynn and Bray and Zoey and Gordon are all perfect for each other. Molly E. Lee did an amazing job with this series of making you feel like you were apart of each and every Grad night adventure. I love this YA series.
Please note: I received a copy of LOVE BEYOND OPPOSITES via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to the publisher and author.
LOVE BEYOND OPPOSITES gets 5 stars and here is why:
LOVE BEYOND OPPOSITES is a best friends to lovers story and I’m a sucker for unrequited love. Somehow, the NetGalley fairy sprinkled some lucky magic dust all over me and I got to read all three books in Molly E. Lee’s graduation night series. And boy, does Ms. Lee deliver!
I work with teens and this author nails it. She’s captured the quintessential sass and snark of every teenager I’ve had the joy of working with in high school. So much fun! ☺ The main and supporting characters are relatable, like THE BREAKFAST CLUB – you know in a high school setting, there’s going to be the popular girl, the jock, the brainiac, the nerdy-but-doesn’t-know-she’s-beautiful girl, the hot guy rock star, etc.
But what I hadn’t prepared myself for was the total book hangover I’d get from reading each one of these books! I equally enjoyed LOVE IN THE FRIEND ZONE and LOVE BETWEEN ENEMIES as well as her last book, LOVE BEYOND OPPOSITES. You don’t have to read one before the other to enjoy the story, but it’d be a lot of fun and enjoyment if you did. Ms. Lee does a great job of weaving these characters and their plot set-ups through all three books. Because the story takes place over a day or two, the pacing is fast, the conflict major, and the characters jump off the pages in spades.
What I loved about this story is that Jade is a strong heroine. She’s going places and has a plan even if her parents don’t agree with her idea to pursue a graphic art degree over a safe math career. She’s been in forever love with her good friend, Lennon, the quintessential rock star. Lennon is a player because he’s going places. He doesn’t want to settle down and be stuck in a relationship when his first love is music. Or is it? Everyone in the story sees what Lennon and Jade can’t see, that they belong together despite what their futures might hold, and the story takes place in a twenty-four hour period at a party after everyone graduates high school when they have to shed their safety net for their unknown future.
If you love hella-hot guys, sassy girls, and a high school graduation night of epic proportions, then this book is for you. Be prepared to read it in one sitting. Highly recommend!
The good old “nerd falls for the famous/popular kid” trope - what’s not to love? This had an easy start, a SWEET AND FLUFFY AS CANDY FLOSS middle, and had a cute finish to tie up any of the loose ends.
I expected the book to take place over a longer period of time, so I was pleasantly surprised when the majority of the story took place on the one day/night.
I liked how the POV changed between Lennon or Jade each chapter, it helped the story flow a bit better than if it was only the one characters perspective.
It may not be the type of book I’d typically pick up, but it was an easy read and I definitely enjoyed it.
A teen once recommended Molly E. Lee's previous books, Love in the Friend Zone and Love Between Enemies, to me. I liked those books, so I was excited for this one. Teen Crush stories frequently come up when I ask teens about good romances that they've read, which is how I was introduced to it. This one, while still a fun read, was not as enjoyable as the two books before it in the series. I liked Jade and Lennon's relationship, but it seemed a little unrealistic as after one conversation, Lennon was already obsessing over how beautiful and intelligent Jade was. Despite the quickness of the romance, which annoyed me maybe a little more than it should have, the book was still entertaining, and I was pleased by how previous characters also played a major role in this book.
This is a modern day '80s teen movie in book form. With all the hijinx, silliness and sweetness that entails.
Recommended for all lovers of cute reads.
