This is a charming and delightful book! The illustrations are adorable and the rhyming text makes for a perfect read-aloud. This is also a counting book which offers even more fun to young listeners. There are children, a dog, adventures and a cold, snowy day. Perfect! Highly recommended!
Told in a charming rhyme, this delightfully illustrated story is about numbers -- counting forwards and counting backwards. The story follows the characters - two children, one dog, and six friends as they dress for winter ("four boots on four stomping feet"), add buttons to a snowman, make snow angels, and blaze trails in the snow. At the end of the day two children and one dog warm up by the fire with two cups of cocoa. Highy recommended for children in both warm and cold climates!
ONE SNOWY DAY is such a sweet sweet children’s book with truly beautiful illustrations. When snow falls two kids and one lively puppy head out for winter fun. They sled, toss snowballs, have puppy play, meet up with friends and more. Darling illustrations and rhyming text make this a charming way for kids to learn to count to ten while having fun. 5/5

A very cute counting book, with the bonus of going one to ten and then down from ten to one. The winter theme makes it a great read for a snow day!
Thanks to NetGalley for making this digital ARC available in exchange for my opinion.
Not all rhythmical counting books are created equal. Some may have straightforward ascending counting , but stilted, nonsensical rhyming that really doesn't support the counting or storyline. Others may have a good rhythm, but lack engaging illustrations or the counting is so scattered they don't make for good teaching tools. However, One Snowy Day not only uses ascending counting, but also descending through a variety of snow day activities.. For example, " ..four snow boots for four stomping feet." The full page illustrations include children and animals and look realistic enough that young children can connect to them. Once One Snowy Day is read aloud a few times, children will be able to retell and reread the illustrations/story by looking at the illustrations and corresponding numerals.
Pre-school and kindergarten teachers will want to add One Snowy Day to their winter book collection to use for snow/winter themes, rhyming, counting and enjoying a playful book together.
This book tells a simple story of children in the snow but does so with lovely pictures that depict many different types of children. It is a perfect addition to a library collection.
