Thanks to Publishers Lunch for another preview book. There are a couple of these YA books that I will be purchasing for our classroom library. I work at a local high school. Students always are excited when I bring in new books. These books peaked my interest:

White as Silence Red as Song by Alessandro D'Avenia
When Elephants Fly by Nancy Richardson Fischer
The Girl in the Locked Room by Mary Downing Hahn

This gave a nice overview of which books are going to come forward in the upcoming year. Nicely put edition.

This collection of YA Book samples is a great way to prepare staff for new books and to see what is currently trending or popular among our teenager readers. It means that when the books come in I already have an idea on the story and themes and can get straight into recommending them to students. I wish more publishers did this in an email PDF attachment format that teachers and librarians could subscribe to with seasonal new releases to help them get that step ahead.

As always with these titles, some work well and make me desperate to get my hands on the book and some less so. However, I always like having the chance to see what's coming up. Just sorry that my lack of organisation has meant I'm slow in posting reviews.

2018 was a good year! Quite a few authors that I love had books published. Cassandra Clare (she's a powerhouse!), Holly Black, Marie Lu, Kerri Maniscalco and Amy Lukavics. And then the new to me authors that quickly got some space on my TBR like Claire Legrand's Sawkill Girls. I found The Gilded Wolves excerpt to show a lot of promise, specifically with the characters. I have a feeling that the character development in this story is going to be excellent. Then Mary Downing Hanh comes through with with the spooky, chills. Just what I love! She can give you scares and a satisifying resolution. I'm sure that the rest of The Girl in the Locked Room won't disappoint. Having had graduated high school not long before the Columbine shooting I'm not too keen on reading about stories centered around it or that lift pieces of it in an alternative history sort of way. Going to pass on the Keplinger release. And I will also move past the Kate Milford story until I've read Greenglass House. I enjoyed the Natasha Ngan excerpt. Great start to a series. I've heard so many good things about Girls of Paper and Fire that I don't know why I haven't read it yet! Sadie is sitting on my shelf as I write this, pretty much staring me down! I love Courtney Summers writing. Her previous novels, the ones I've read, remain favorites. Sadie, I'm sure, will have a place there as well. This was fun! I should have done it sooner. So many good books in 2018 and I've heard wonderful things about many of them over the past couple of years. Happy reading!

This was such a good edition of Buzz Books! A great mix of genres, I've already gone on to read That's Not What Happened, Elephant and Sadie. Elephant and Sadie were both fantastic books. On my to-read list still from this edition are Mammoth, The House of One Thousand Eyes, and The Similars. I'm also intrigued about The Girl in the Locked Room, and White as Silence, Red as Song. So many great books that I might not of otherwise picked up!

I'm a big fan of Buzz Books because of the variety of books they let me try. I've found some debut and new to me authors this way and I get to keep up with some publication dates of other books I might want to try and buy.

This particular Buzz Book is a Young Adult (YA) feature that has sixteen excerpts as well as some listed publication dates for other fiction and nonfiction titles. The publication date list just lists author, title, publisher and probably publishing dates as an FYI).

I actually found myself liking the contemporary "Mammoth" more than I thought I would...so that's on my list now! Also included was "The Similars" which looks to be delightfully creepy and "Shadow of the Fox" which left me wanting more.

My favorite cover was Natasha Ngan's Girls of Paper and Fire," the excerpt seemed very telling--I think that's going to be a very good book.

I think I added most of the excerpts to my "TBR" list because this was really an excellent Buzz Books.

Some truly fantastic excerpts! I've had the pleasure of reading some of these in full now (The Gilded Wolves being a recent favourite) and I'm wholeheartedly looking forward to picking up others, especially The Shadow of the Fox.
