I loved this edition of Buzz Books YA. It encompassed a wide variety of YA subgenres, including some that I would never have known about. It made me hungry to read the upcoming releases. I really look forward to future editions of this catalogue. I love that these types of samplers are even in existence. I feel like they broaden readers’ ideas of YA.

These editions are amazing! They keep me prepared and I love that I have a chance to read samples of amazing books that are yet to come!
Loved all the great recommendations! The new releases cover a lot of different genres and I can't wait to read some of these new YA novels.
I love these YA Buzz Books! There are so many great books coming up soon in YA and I appreciate having these samples to help me with determining my tbr list and blog coverage. These books are very nicely organized.
The Spring/Summer 2018 edition of YA BUZZ BOOKS disappointed me with almost all fantasy/supernatural/sci fi novels. Fall/Winter fortunately included more realistic fiction to add to my TBR list. I will preorder WHEN ELEPHANTS FLY, THAT’S NOT WHAT HAPPENED, and SADIE after I finish this review!
Extremely excited for some of these but I'm really looking forward to Sadie and Shadow of the Fox! Thanks for the excerpts! I've now got several more books added to my TBR!
I feel so blessed that NetGalley provides such a comprehensive collection of upcoming releases. Not only do they provide a collection of anticipated novels, they give some amazing excerpts as well!
What more could a book blogger dream of? Thank you so much, NetGalley!
I was excited to see I had already requested 2 of these books! Can’t wait to read Girls of Fire & Paper and Shadow of the Fox!
I absolutely love Buzz Books previews! I read this one early enough to where I am not familiar with the contents of many of these books and I am so glad to have a preview for these! Now I know exactly which ones I want to look out for a recommend to my students and blog followers. 2018 is am absolutely amazing year in YA books!
Very excited for Gilded Wolves. The other books look pretty good too, and I will be sure to look for them this summer/fall.
This Buzz Books edition had a record number of interesting titles that matched my interests! I read excerpts of books that I was already interested in - The Gilded Wolves, Girls of Paper and Fire, Ignite the Stars, Shadow of the Fox - and discovered a number of new titles: The Similars, A Spark of White Fire (A Mahabharata retelling!!)
There are some amazing books coming up later this year and I cannot wait for them. A lot of these are US which makes sense but hopefully we'll get them this side of the pond. I am most excited for Mammoth which sounds amazing.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this for an honest review!
I discovered those buzz books a few days ago. So happy about this! When you're a book addict like me you just love reading summaries and samples and learning about the authors, some you know and new ones too!
This book has 240 pages and it's just heaven! All those books look interesting! Girl in the locked room, That night, When we caught fire, Your own worst enemy, Frequency... ... ... The list of books I want to read next just keeps getting longer and it's a good thing! Thank you!
Review shared online! Twitter, goodreads, amazon when published...
Most definitely, I read the monthly Buzz Books, and I patiently wait for them, but what impatiently wait for are the twice a year seasonals. How is it that I didn't realize all these great YA books were coming out in Fall/Winter?!? Though I probably shouldn't have (my TBR pile is officially the K2 of TBR's!!!), I requested the first half of the books in this guide. How could you not!
It was great to be able to read more than just an except about a book. It gives you a chapter and at the end you can decide to request the copy of the book or move on to the next book.
I am so so excited for these titles! Thank you for the preview. Especially looking forward to The Gilded Wolves, Shadow of the Fox and Sadie. I have my eye on others that I hadn't heard of before, too.
Thank you so much for posting these to look through. It introduces me to books I may not pick up before and gives me a chance to get a taste for what's to come later this year. It gets me so excited!
This is great for seeing what is coming about in fall/winter and will be creating buzz among young adult readers. This was so helpful!
Wow so many good books coming out this fall and winter! I was really good about not over requesting but I did request one. I wrote the rest down to keep an eye out for later. Almost every excerpt is followed with a link to request the galley. This is such a brilliant idea to expose the reader to genres that aren't normally something they would read or even look at! I wish more publishers would do this!
Ahhhh I've been looking out for the next YA Buzz Books for the past who knows how long and when it appeared on my dashboard, I clicked it immediately. Another great selection of works, yay! I'm still considering requesting some of them, though others I think I'd definitely enjoy. Much appreciation!
I really love all these updates and lists of books !
All these discoveries! I definitely want to read some of them!
Thanks !
I think this was the first time I took my time going through this but then again I was adding 75% of the titles listed into my wishlist. So many fantastic books coming out this next season and a fed hidden gems. Look forward to read these books this winter season
This is the ninth edition of Buzz Books: Young Adult and it contains a great collection of excerpts of upcoming YA titles which will be published in the Fall/Winter of 2018.
The publication starts with an introduction followed by a section listing fiction and nonfiction titles. It also includes a page informing the Buzz Books authors appearing at BookExpo.
Last, there are sixteen excerpts by publishers. I recommend you read the introduction and based on the description of the books read the excerpt you are interested in... or just read them all!
I particularly enjoyed the excerpt for Sadie by Courtney Summers. Overall, a great list of buzzing YA titles for the Fall/Winter of 2018.
Thank you so much for the access to this Buzz Books Fall/Winter edition. I love getting these and getting excited about new books to come!
This is a book lovers dream! This was such a great way to find out about upcoming releases. It was great to be able to read excerpts to help me decide what I would like to read. I found some interesting books that are now on my radar, and it also helped me cancel a few others. Thank you verry much Buzz Books and NetGalley for making this available!
These are all very interesting anticipated titles and I'm sure everyone who is into YA fiction will find at least something for them in this edition of Buzz Books!
New books from Courtney Summers, Kody Keplinger, Roshani Chokshi, and Julie Kagawa? H*ck yeah!
Also, here's hoping my request for Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan is approved, stat....
As an avid reader, I found this book to be extremely useful and resourceful. I look forward to reading and sharing some of these new titles. I definitely recommend this for teachers when researching student reading lists.
I love looking through these catalogs! I'm so looking forward to The Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa! Also Girls of Paper and Fire!
Well, what can I say that hasn't already been said? READ IT! Well worth your time - if you haven't got the time to trawl the net looking for upcoming book releases (and lets face it, most of us haven't) then let this guide you! Info on all the best soon to be published titles are gathered here.
Such a great way to get a detailed sneak peak of YA releases coming in the Fall/Winter. This preview offers not only a list of Upcoming releases organized by genre but also some preview chapter readings to help get a taste of the titles to come.
Thanks for providing this on NetGalley -- a great way to get an idea of what galleys to look for in the coming months.
There are some really good YA books coming out in fall/winter of this year! I am especially excited for the several YA Fantasy titles that were in this collection, namely Roshani Chokshi's The Gilded Wolves and Natasha Ngan's Girls of Paper and Fire.
Great sampler! Definitely gonna check out The Similars by Bebecca Hanover. The excerpt of that one is very intriguing.
Once again a good assortment of books for review in this edition of Young Adult Fall/Winter 2018 . Thanks a Netgalley for the preview.
I found some titles that interested me so I used the information here to help me write a post about my anticipated reads for fall and winter. I enjoyed looking through the release dates of books and reading the chapter samples.
A couple titles that caught my eye were "When Elephants Fly," "Black Wings Beating," and "Queen of Air and Darkness".
My post will appear on my blog on August 1st. Once that's up I'll add the link to Netgalley.
Love the Publisher's Lunch Buzz Books lists - such a fantastic resource!! (Although maybe not from my TBR's perspective!!)
Always find this seasonal preview helpful! Really enjoyed this group of excerpts for young adult upcoming books.
Buzz Books always manages to curate the best samples for upcoming YA releases, and this one is no different. I loved being able to read the first chapters of books I'm really looking forward to, as well as find some other releases I hadn't heard of.
A great way to see what YA titles are coming up this autumn and winter. I'll be watching out for these titles to become available.
I always look forward to a new Buzz Books. They have such a great range of samples from upcoming publications and include excerpts from some of my most anticipated reads as well as some I otherwise may not have heard of. I will be adding most of these to my list of books I need to read.
The Buzz Books 2018: Young Adult Fall/Winter has a lot of young adult books, including ebooks, coming out in Fall 2018 and Winter 2018-2019. I am excited to read some of the books that are listed in this ebook. If you want to see the young adult books that are coming out in fall and winter (and spring and summer), then check out Buzz Books.
I requested this because it had some excerpts for some of my most anticipated 2018 books, such as Girls of Paper and Fire. I was also able to find some new books from this!
Excited for the upcoming books! I've now got quite a few books lined up for fall. This is a great way to preview them. Thank you.
This is so great! I love previews and the books AND then you can even request them on NetGalley. Wonderful option to have.
Another selection of upcoming YA releases to look forward to this upcoming fall and winter seasons. Plenty of well known authors have books that are releasing later in the year, but so do many debut authors so don't overlook them!
**3.75 stars**
This compilation was much better than the last one, which many more choices and more debut novel and first installments in series to read from. There were some major surprises as well. My favorites were the samples from: the gilded wolves, shadow of the fox, grim lovelies, a spark of white fire and pay attention carter jones. Keep putting out compilation with as many samples as this one. Love buzz books :)
I love getting a chance to read these. I get a mini preview of books coming out and get interested in books I might not normally.
I found the YA fall/winter Book Buzz extremely helpful. I am not going to be traveling to NY for bookcon this year, so this was helpful to see what is coming out later this year. Not the whole books, or ARCs by any means, it still gave me an idea of the books I will be wanting to purchase this fall and winter. Now it is the wait that is going to kill me!
Reading this out of curiosity was an absolute mistake. My TBR list is already overwhelmed and screaming for me to stop, but of course, I just ignored it and now I have a ton more books to be excited about.
Each and every single one sounds incredibly interesting, and I can’t wait to see them whole! It’s a strong selection of possible new favourite reads, so I’m anticipating a lot.
My favourites include The Gilded Wolves and A Spark of White Fire, so I’ll definitely be adding them to my TBR.
A great selection of Buzz books to keep an eye out for this Autumn and Winter, covering a wide range of genres to whet your appetite. Especially excited for GIRLS OF PAPER AND FIRE and THE GILDED WOLVES, but I definitely want to pick up all these fantastic novels at some point!
This is a wonderful resource for many of the upcoming books. It includes some great samples of some books too.
As always, these small guides are very helpful when it comes to choosing what I'll be requesting in the future and adding to my TBR
I was really pleased to find a wider selection of more realistic stories in this collection. There has been a bit of a trend recently to blend YA with futuristic or fantasy stories and it feels like the Fall/Winter collection is seeing a resurgence of "real" stories.
Yet another great edition of Buzz Books YA. I always love reading these because there's often a few books that I may not have come across otherwise!
There was a lot more contemporary included in this edition than the last that I read - which isn't so much up my alley (heavy fantasy reader over here!) however some of them sounded too good not to be on my TBR. There's also a couple of excerpts from books that I am already excited about (The Gilded Wolves anyone!!!???!!??) and now I'm not sure how to wait for these releases!
I really love these little e-catalogs that are put out! It gives me a good chance to check out new and upcoming books so as I have a better informed decision about my possible purchases! Also I love that I can check out new authors as well as some of favorites!
As always I loved this preview when it comes out, I look forward to it every quarter. Even though it does horrible things to my TBR pile.
I love the idea of compiling new YA fiction into one source so that readers can be on the look out for these books! I for one am very pleased and exciting to read a lot of the books mentioned! Keep the good times rolling!
I love being able to sample a bunch of upcoming books in one collection! Thank you for offering it! My favorites were The Similars, Ignite the Stars, A Spark of White Fire, and Girls of Paper and Fire. I can't wait to read the whole stories. I have already been approved for The Similars so a review for that one will come soon.
I love that this book gives plenty of excerpts to some of my most anticipated stories. I cannot wait to get a closer look to each of these books. Since these are only excerpts, I cannot fully evaluate them, but I will be ready to once they release!
There are quite a few novels I’m looking forward to. Most notably:
White as Silence, Red as Song by Alessandro D’Avenia
When Elephants Fly by Nancy Richardson Fischer
The Similars by Rebecca Hanover
That’s Not What Happened by Kody Keplinger
Pay Attention, Carter Jones by Gary D. Schmidt
Sadie by Courtney Summers
The Buzz Books roundups are super useful to get a glimpse of what's in the YA pipeline. Good representation of voices and genres here.
This is the first time that I've read through a Buzz Books catalog and it will certainly not be my last. This was a great read that gave sneak peeks to upcoming YA releases this Fall/Winter season. Reading through these excerpts got me excited for some new books, the ones that I am particularly looking forward to are Shadow of the Fox, When Elephants Fly, and That's Not What Happened.
Loved getting a preview of upcoming Young Adult/Teen books and enjoyed having access to excerpts. There were many authors I am excited about set to have new releases coming soon!
Once Again I want to say thank you to Publishers Lunch for providing BUZZ BOOKS – this issue contains 16 excerpts from upcoming YA works. It is great to see choices from smaller presses and from writers outside the US (e.g., Barker's THE HOUSE OF ONE THOUSAND EYES or D'Avenia's WHITE AS SILENCE, RED AS SONG – hailed as Italy's The Fault in our Stars). There is plenty of fantasy and sci-fi: Chokshi's THE GILDED WOLVES, or IGNITE THE STARS by Milan, or GIRLS OF PAPER AND FIRE by Ngan, or GRIM LOVELIES by best-selling author Megan Shepherd. Some of the titles (by authors like Mary Downing Hahn, Kate Milford and Gary Schmidt) stretch the definition YA to include middle grade novels.
In addition to the excerpts, there is a more complete list of fall and winter fiction and non-fiction geared to YAs; be sure to look for upcoming titles by Avi, Deb Caletti, Traci Chee, Cassandra Clare, Jessica Cluess, Rachel Cohn, John Feinstein, Ellen Hopkins, Robin LaFevers, Claire Legrand, David Levithan, Patrick Ness, Beth Revis, Brandon Sanderson, Neal Shusterman, Andrew Smith, Sonya Sones, Nic Stone, Rick Yancey, and Ibi Zoboi… plus MANY more – making it very difficult to say which one I am most excited about. The non-fiction choices are fewer, but include a new work by Malala Yousafzai which I know my students will want to request and others I am going to likely purchase: NEVERTHELESS, WE PERSISTED by Amy Klobuchar and WHEN CAN WE GO BACK TO AMERICA by Barry Denenberg. BUZZ BOOKS are a very helpful resource!
I kept seeing these books for the past year or so and have never read one, but they are great! This is a great way to find out about new books and get a little deeper with some. It is such a great resource for a librarian! I look forward to the next one!
This is a brilliant way to get a glimpse into some of the upcoming YA releases and I don't know why I haven't read any of the previous Buzz Books for that reason. Something that will be rectified in the future as I loved reading this one!
This was a great preview of a number of very exciting anticipated releases! I'm most excited about Sadie, The Gilded Wolves, and Girls of Paper and Fire - adding all of them to my TBR.
I always look forward to the new editions of Buzz Books! It truly helps me discover new books and authors that become new favorites!
Wow, this is amazing. I wish something like this was on the receptionist's table as you walk into any library. It's a fantastic way to get to know books that you might be interested in - books that are getting more and more popular, even before they come out sometimes.
It also offers a great deal or publishing information and author bios. LOVE IT! Saves a ton of Google research for those considering a closer look at the publishing world.
I haven't even finished it yet - it's not a sort of book you just flip through and be done. It's more of a directory of your near future's literary life - but I've already bought a few of the books represented here.
Thank you NetGalley so much for this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
I really love these buzz books excerpts. My favorite thing about NetGalley is being able to see these lists of upcoming reads and being able to read a chapter or two of selected books.
a great comprehensive preview into most highly anticipated books of 2018, featuring excerpts and covers
Oh my goodness! My TBR list has grown tremendously thanks to this "book buzz".
I am looking forward to The Wicked King, Girl in the Locked Room, The Me I Meant to Be, The Fall of Crazy House, and several nonfiction titles.
As an adult new the YA genre, this is sampler showed me what I have been missing!
Highly recommend to other adults and parents who want peruse the landscape of skillfully curated YA books!
Mammoth by Jill Baguchinsky [5 stars]: A story about a fashion blogger with a summer paleontology internship, sign me up! Loved this excerpt. The MC is sassy and loves mammoths more than dinosaurs :) Added to my TBR
The House of One Thousand Eyes by Michelle Barker [3 stars]: I was interested after reading the synopsis, but what I read so far didn't really sway me either way. Not sure if I will read this or not. It follows a girl named Lena living in East Germany in the 1980s.
The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi [3 stars]: I don't know how to feel about this excerpt or how it read. Parts of it were interesting (and reminded me of how Flame in the Mist started), but not all of it captured my attention. It took me a bit to get through it.
White as Silence, Red as Song by Alessandro D'Avenia [1 star]: I didn't finish this one. I think a little got lost in translation and it didn't make for a cohesive read.
When Elephants Fly by Nancy Richardson Fischer [4 stars]: I am looking forward to this one and seeing how the mental health representation is done.
The Girl in the Locked Room by Mary Downing Hahn [skipped]: It's a horror book. I need to sleep LOL
The Similars by Rebecca Hoover [3 stars]: This has potential but it seemed extremely juvenile and trope-y right out of the gate.
Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa [5 stars]: OMG. I have an ARC of this and it's going on my TBR soon. The little bit was sooooo incredible.
That's Not What Happened by Kody Keplinger [5 stars]: Just enough to get me hooked and now I have to wait until August at the very least. This one wasn't even on my radar. Added to my TBR
A Spark of White by Sangu Mandanna [5 stars]: A space opera with roots in Indian stories that grabbed me from the very start and cliffhangered me hard at the end of the excerpt. Added to my TBR
Ignite the Stars by Maura Milan [5 stars]: Another phenomenal scifi book to look forward to. This one is a debut novel and is very different than the space opera I just read an excerpt from. Added to my TBR
Bluecrowne by Kate Milford [skipped]: This is a sequel to a book I have not read.
Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan [5 stars]: The part demon/part human thing pulled me in immediay. This book was already on my TBR and I am even more excited for it now!
Pay Attention, Carter Jones by Gary D. Schmidt [4 stars]: Interesting middle grade excerpt. Really intrigued to find out what happens! Loved Carter's perspective. I think my kids would enjoy this one too.
Grim Lovelies by Megan Shepherd [2 stars]: Wasn't big on this excerpt at all. Really flowery writing. Removed from TBR
Sadie by Courtney Summers [3 stars]: This was okay. A girl dies in a fire and her sister goes missing a year after her death.
Being able to review these book samples is an excellent way for me to know what books are coming soon, to pre-order books for my library and to share with my friends and colleagues.
Once again YA Buzz Books was a great help and the 2018: Young Adult Fall/Winter gave me some great recommendations.
I really enjoyed the samples that were found in this book. I definitely will be requesting some of them. I think that this is a good idea for reviewers to really see if they will enjoy a book for not. I also think that it is great exposure for the books inside.
This edition is amazing! I loved it. I keep me updated and help myself to prepare for the upcoming great books. Plus I get to read amazing excerpts!
I really enjoy reading every issue of Buzz Books because every time I find many interesting books to add to my TBR. In this edition of Buzz Books 2018 : Young Adult Fall/ Winter I discovered books that I had heard and after reading an excerpt from it I added it immediately to my TBR. I also found books that I didn't know but I look forward to learn more about them and read them.
I also use this publications for inspiration for my blog posts.
This snippets and previews are really great for finding out the new titles and what books are good to recommend for customers, especially those looking for reader's advisory, or those who like the newest titles. I am particularly looking forward to the Hank Green book being published in September.
Mammoth – Jill Baguchinsky
I was not a fan of this title. Natalie was not a sympathetic character and I could not see myself pulling for her in the future. I could see the banter between her and ___ turning into a romance plot, but this didn’t make the premise any more interesting to me. Paleontology, as stated in the novel, is a small community and I don’t see this one having much buzz in the library.
The House of One Thousand Eyes – Michelle Barker
This appears to be a solid start to a good historical novel for teens about a normally passed over time in Germany. The brief explanation about the time and situation is helpful to unknowing readers. There was foreshadowing as to what was to come in the novel, but I would have liked to see more to see exactly what Lena was to be up against. I like the concept, but don’t see many teens showing interest in this type of materials lately.
The Gilded Wolves – Roshani Chokshi
I found this an intriguing story that has new ideas rather than the same old tropes. I can’t wait to see the new mythologies and what the artifacts are and do. Even in this first chapter, there were intricate details, a good back story, and a thickening plot line. Chokshi is gaining a large voice in the YA community and it is not a surprise to those who have read her work.
White as Silence, Red as Song – Alessandro D’Avenia
When this title came up I was excited to read any part of it and see what all the talk was about. Unfortunately, I was not impressed. I felt that the main character was unrelatable and highly negative. He was very sporadic in his thoughts, which caused the reader to jump quickly from one mundane idea to the next with no real thought or feeling about them. It was an annoying sort of rant. He claims his love for a girl, stating that he “would change for her”, followed in the next sentence with “we can’t be together” if she doesn’t like his hair. The media and pop culture references are highly dated and would not be appreciated by teens nowadays. Simply did not see this title as a must have for the library.
When Elephants Fly – Nancy Richardson Fischer
I liked the articles that this novel started out with. They definitely pulled in the reader and gave them the same interest that the community would have towards the elephants. It also showcased the character’s writing ability to engage her readers. The story had a lot to expand on and is a new take on schizophrenia. It borders the line of real life and story plot lines, yet is appealing to readers.
The Girl in the Locked Room – Mary Downing Hahn
This is a great start to great haunting. Seeing the house from the perspectives of both girls is very interesting and shows their similarities and differences. The feel of the narrative is leading to an enticing mystery that is lead with a childlike innocence. It is very descriptive and, by using both girls thoughts to drive the novel, very in depth when it comes to character development.
Similars – Rebecca Hanover
The premise of the novel is both original and not. The idea of having clones attend a prestigious school to see how they fit in is new, yet most of the clone tropes are already present in this first chapter. The outcry against it, the “father”, the add behavior of the clones, and the blatant curiosity are all present. There was no real history given as to where, or why, these clones we created, which left the story quite lacking right off the bat. The narrative was very fluid and kept the story moving along, yet the dialogue was rather annoying and put offish. Hard to tell without much to go on, yet I didn’t feel that I cared to keep reading after this first chapter.
Shadow of the Fox – Julie Kagawa
I had never read anything by Kagawa before, but I can see now why she is so popular. The writing of this story was flowing and gripping. It can be a little hard to take in this detailed world, yet I can see it as immersing once you’re in it. This was a great action packed start that had a sense of humor and foreboding that blended perfectly.
That’s Not What Happened – Kody Keplinger
This story kind of hit a nerve for me. I’m not sure exactly how a feel about it. I felt that, with the state of the world and the amount of shootings taking place, this could be a timely novel, yet it felt forced to me. The voice was somewhat accusatory and pushed the reader away rather than bringing them into the story. This seemed to be a story of recovery and acceptance and had a good hook at the end of the preview.
A Spark of White Fire – Sangu Mandanna
This seemed to be another space fantasy in the myriad of space fantasies being published today. There is a lost princess (who could that be?), a usurped prince (will he get his throne back?), and an impossible task. It was a lot of what most fantasy readers have already seen, but that doesn’t make it any less. The writing was good and flowed well. There was drama and foreshadowing to the battle(s) to come.
Ignite the Stars – Maura Milan
This was another space fantasy, yet this one sparked my interest a little more. This was a more high tech future that was easier to picture in the mind. The technology was advanced, but understandable. This was a feisty female with revenge on her mind. There were a lot of details and great background to suck you into this one.
Bluecrowne – Kate Milford
This was a part of a series that I feel I might enjoy, yet wouldn’t rush out to get. From what I had here, there was too much terminology that was series specific that made no sense to me. This dealt with time travel, I think, and a sense of family and home. The language was a little too droning for my liking, yet the premise was enticing.
Girls of Paper and Fire – Natasha Ngan
This fantasy dealt with traditions and prophecies. There was an oral short story to give a brief history of the land/gods/caste system which was a great addition. The writing was smooth and readable. Our main character had a great personality and I can’t wait to see what happens to her next.
Pay Attention, Carter Jones – Gary Schmidt
I enjoyed this title with its hectic morning and enjoyable characters. The writing was fast paced but loaded with specific details that added personality to the characters. The jokes were timed out nicely. The dialogue was hilarious and the banter between the gentleman’s gentleman and Carter was outstanding. The language was easy to read, yet the humor would probably be lost on some younger readers. This had a great message of learning who you are and believing in yourself.
Grim Lovelies – Megan Shepherd
This title was very muddled for me. The writing felt like rambling and the fairy tale feel that is advertised wasn’t felt in this start. I could not get into the characters and felt confused about where their story was headed. I did not see a hook or catch to this story to grab readers into wanting more.
Sadie – Courtney Summers
This final excerpt was done half in podcast form and half in first person narration. I was not a huge fan of the podcast far as I thought it broke up the story and made it a chore to read. The voice was monotone, without any humor or personality to it to grab the attention of the reader. Sadie’s narration was more gripping. She is a crafty teen torn between her past and future. This was a good start to a coming of age novel for those who enjoy a different writing style.
A nice breakdown of the books to-come. Very useful if you’re looking to add a bit more to your “To Be Read” Pile—really enjoyed the samples of the most buzzed about books.
Being able to read excerpts from upcoming books really hase excited for the release of each! I can’t wait to read the full books.
I REALLY ENJOY GETTING A GLIMPSE OF ALL THE UPCOMING YA TITLES FROM MY FAVORITE AUTHORS. BUZZ BOOKS ARE NOT ONES TO BE MISSED!
Gives a good idea of what is to come in YA literature in the Fall. Some books look exciting, I like to see book buzz samples. It makes it easy to amp up my patrons for novels and authors they may have never heard of!
This was a wonderful preview of some of the most buzz-worthy titles coming later this year. I really appreciated the mix of contemporary titles and fantasy--there's a little something for everyone here. I'm personally really looking forward to GIRLS OF PAPER AND FIRE and THE GILDED WOLVES--very intriguing snippets!
Always great to find out about good new books. Thank you for providing this resource. Always great to find out about good new books. Thank you for providing this resource.
Buzz Books for young adults showcases an interesting array of titles slated for 2018 Fall/Winter releases. These books cover topics of increasing relevance to students, such as school shootings, and topics of continued importance, including mental health and complexities involved with growing up. Holly Black, Julie Kagawa, Ellen Hopkins, Mary Downing Hahn, *and* Markus Zusak, and Avi are a but a small sample of returning favorites revealed in this smorgasbord of a sampler.
These samplers are very helpful in determining whether a galley is right for me, and for my readers.
Thank you to Jill Baguchinsky, Michelle Baker, Nancy Richardson Fischer, Mary Hahn, Angu Madanna, Kate Milford, Megan Shepherd, Rebecca Hanover, Julie Kajawa, Kody Kepliner, Natasha Ngan, Courtney Summers, Roshani Chokshi, Gary. Schmidt, Alessandro D’Avenia, Mahabrahata, Maura Milan, Publishers Lunch, Publishers Lunch BUZZ BOOKS, and NetGalley for this advanced copy of “Buzz Books 2018: Young Adult Fall/Winter” for an honest review.
I always, always, always jump at the chance to get my hands on the Buzz Book releases. I love getting the chance to look through the release list for all my favorite up and coming author releases to keep an eye out for on NetGalley.
(My current fall/winter watch from the lists
Fiction: Roshani Chokshi, Holly Black, Cassandra Clare, Lauren DeStefano, Sophie Jordan, David Levithan, Marie Lu, Sarah J. Mass, Tahereh Mafi, Marissa Meyer, Jodi Meadows, Lauren Oliver, James Patterson, Laini Taylor, Markus Zuzak.
Non Fiction: Heather Demetrios, Barry Denenberg, Amy Klobuchar, Anita Sakeesian)
My favorite read from this set was Roshani Chokshi’s newest book, and I was delighted to get to have an early read at it, even though I’ve already requested to read the galley of it.
I've always loved these Buzz Books for the chance to see snippets from upcoming books! I like to be able to read the plot summary of the books and then mark which books sound interesting, I think it's a fabulous idea to do this but I would like for there to be an underrated books Buzz Books - where you include books from small publishers. Or even separate Buzz Books - one just for Fantasy/Sci-Fi, one just for contemporary/Romance
So many great books coming out this fall/winter. I am looking forward to a few new books by some of my favorite authors, and a few of the excerpts from new or unheard of by me authors have really piqued my interest. My TBR list just grew extensively!
These Buzz Books are gonna be all the rage. This book shows snippets of upcoming books that are predicted to be hits. Some, I admit, might not be what I expected, but there is something for everyone in this compilation. My favorite by far is Julie Kagawa, but I liked each author's content. I definitely would recommend these pieces to people I know in the reader community, and the book groups I belong to. I love sharing books and have a love of reading, and I know others that do as well.
There were some really interesting first chapters in this number. I loved the fantasy titles, The gilded wolves and Shadow of the fox sound incredible. Great work!
What a fantastic grouping of books to read excerpts of for upcoming Young Adult titles. I was completely beguiled by the fantasy of Roshani Chokshi's The Gilded Wolves, saddened by Lily's predicament in When Elephants Fly by Nancy Richardson Fischer, curious about the clone story in Rebecca Hanover's The Similars, excited for the adventure in Julie Kagawa's Shadow Fox, and so depressed by the relevancy in That's Not What Happened by Kody Keplinger. I can't wait for Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan, and I loved the storytelling layout in Sadie by Courtney Summers.
I am so looking forward to the above listed titles and reading their excerpts made me even more so that I wish I could read them now. Each of these titles cover vast topics and span many genres, but they read so well and pulled me in in such a short excerpt that I'm anxious for more---I just wish I didn't have to wait so long to read them all!
I love being able to review these and get a more in-depth view of the books that are coming in the near future. I found two in this edition I have requested to review. I am also very excited to see there is a new Patrick Ness book coming. He is one of my favorite authors. I look forward to these reviews! Keep them coming!!
Thank you
I really enjoyed this collection of previews. There was a substantial enough portion of each book that I really got a feel for what each one was like, and whether or not it was for me. In fact, a bunch of these books I’ll definitely be looking to read in the near future. I thought I’d highlight a few:
Sadie by Courtney Summers:
As someone who absolutely adores podcasts, I was already incredibly excited for this book. After reading the excerpt in this preview I know I will be picking it up ASAP. The writing style was perfect and I really felt like I was experiencing an amazing true crime podcast. I think it’s very difficult to transfer radio or podcasting to page, while keeping the same emotional impact, but I truly felt like Courtney Summers had it all figured out.
Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan:
Not only is Natasha a sweetheart, but man, can she write! The plot to this one really intrigued me, and I love that it has tons of representation in it (happy pride month everyone!) This is my current read now, as I was lucky enough to get a copy at book con, and I am loving the rich imagery.
That’s Not What Happened by Kody Keplinger:
This one blew me away. From the first few lines I was hooked. I think the mystery and intrigue grabbed me, and I stayed for the characters interaction with each other, and the realism I felt. It was like stepping right into these relationships and exploring the world as the main character, and it was really powerful. I can’t wait to read this one.
Ultimately this was a GREAT preview. I loved so many of the books, and I’m really looking forward to reading them in the upcoming season.
Always love to see what is coming up and this publication always gives a massive insight to what I should look out for.
I have never seen a book similar to this before. My tbr pile is now even bigger! Some most anticipated are Wildcard,Escaping Houdini, Queen of Air and Darkness, and Dry.
These are some of my favorites here on netgalley! They are so great with showing what is coming next! Cant wait for the next issue!
i just found out about these, this is amazing. I cant believe that i didn't know about these sooner.
Interesting to see what books are coming out and get a sneak peak.of what's to come. Some interesting titles
A great selection of excerpts of upcoming books! Girls of Paper and Fire is one to watch for along with Sadie, but all are great titles and I recommend checking the selection out.
Since it is time to get my students excited for summer reading, I absolutely loved having the Buzz Books 2018! There are so many amazing books featured in the Buzz Books 2018! My students were feverishly writing down titles to add to their wish list!
I love Buzz Books! Looking forward to a few on here that I haven’t even heard of. Great way to encourage summer reading.
Love these samplers for the way I can try out a lot of different teen books quickly and talk them up to patrons. Thanks!
Another good look at the upcoming YA titles to be excited for. I love that at the end of most of the excerpts, a link to request the full galley on NetGalley is included. Based on this sampler I think the title that I am most excited for is Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan!
That's a really nice format! I loved the little snippets 0f uncoming releases and this collection has definitely helped me slim down my TBR a bit.
Always excited to see a new Buzz Books volume! These excerpts are so helpful in choosing which titles to request. Thank you for providing such a valuable resource!
I am not usually a fan of young adult books, but after reading the samples I am looking forward to Mammoth by Jill Baguchinsky, The Similars by Rebecca Hanover, and That's Not What Happened by Kody Keplinger. From the lists of other books I am also interested in Buried Beneath the Baobab Tree by Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani and Viviana Mazza, History vs. Women: The Defiant Lives That They Don't Want You to Know by Anita Sarkeesian and Ebony Adams, and What If It's Us by Becky Abertalli and Adam Silvera.
I really enjoy these Buzz Books; the samples included have helped be to discover new books that I probably never would have picked up otherwise.
Thank you for putting the Buzz Books 2018 together! I cannot wait to read all those upcoming novels!
Made me want to read more of The Shadow of the Fox. I love books that have worlds and characters based of off East Asian Culture, and this particular story captured me. So happy I was able to ckntinue reading it by being able to get an e'-ARC.
Also interested in more of Gilded Wolves. Historical fantasy is awesome, and I look forward to this book's release!
I was really happy to receive a copy of this book from NetGalley. It has samples of a range of books that have yet to be released, Having the opportunity to read even a small section of a few books I've been waiting for is amazing. Not only that, I was able to discover other books I hadn't heard of yet, so I will now be keeping an eye out for them close to their release date.
Buzz Books 2018: Young Adult Fall/Winter included selections of upcoming books such as Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa, Ignite the Stars by Sangu Mandanna, The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi, and Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan.
Overall, a fantastic selection!
I love getting these! Reading the Buzz Books tells me a lot about what YA books are coming out! I look forward to these every season!
This was a great edition of Buzz Books! I enjoyed reading excerpts from books I haven't heard of, and I picked up a new NetGalley eARC to review - When Elephants Fly. Thanks for the amazing work, as always, Publishers Lunch!
I adore YA Buzz Books! It's such a great way to learn about all these new upcoming releases as well as read a sampling of each new title. I'm definitely looking forward to a bunch of these books.
There are some great books in here. This was a great way to get to know them. I look forward to reading the full version once they're released.
These little samples are amazing! They show me new upcoming releases that I might never discover other way.
Got some great ideas for YA books to keep my eye in for the fall. In particular liked .Gilded Wolves, Sadie, and Ignite the Stars. All very different but the writing and story just jump off the page
What an exciting line up for Young Adult books in Fall of 2018. It is amazing to see just the list of all the books that will be published not only to see the scope of how many books but also to see the breadth of subgenres within the YA umbrella. I didn't realize that this is something anyone can download for free from major booksellers or from buzz.publishersmarketplace.com. Now that I know I can recommend it to a lot of people. I get so excited to see what is upcoming, it is like a kid in a candy store. I put so many on my goodreads TBR list and that way I can keep track and not miss a thing. Reading the previews allows me a chance to really see what I am going to spend my money on. So much better than reading the blurb on the book jacket, this allows a real glimpse into story and a feel for the writing.
Some I was already excited for like "Sadie" by Courtney Summers which is a thriller but so much more. This has so much buzz I just can't wait. "The House of One Thousand Eyes" by Michelle Barker is set in East German before the Berlin Wall came down. Most YA's won't know about this time in history and should prove to be a eye opener. Julie Kagawa is starting another series. Most will know her from the Talon series. "Girls of Paper and Fire" by Natasha Ngan has been getting a lot of buzz for being an Asian fantasy novel and has a gorgeous cover. After reading the previews I will keep my eye out for "Mammoth" by Jill Baguchinsky, a plus size fashion blogger who is also interning as a palaeontologist in Texas with some romance in the mix. Roshani Chokshi from the Star Touched Queen series is starting a new series "The Gilded Wolves which everyone is anxiously awaiting. "The Similars" by Rebecca Hanover has six clones attending a fancy boarding school, made against the law, where the main character has to deal with the fact that one is made from the DNA of her best friend who died. "A Spark of White Fire" by Sangu Mandanna promises to build an exciting world where there are complicated family dynamics and kingdoms to be won told in the Indian tradition. Because I am a Sci Fi fan "Ignite The Stars" by Maura Milan promises to be another exciting action packed book where The Commonwealth tries to control the heroince of the story for their own evil purposes. They compare it to "The Lunar Chronicles" which I enjoyed very much.
In the beginning there is a long list of what is coming out where you will find other books by favorite authors, sequels to series you might already be reading and although the section is small a list of nonfiction books. It is well worth taking the time to see what is coming up in Young Adult for the Fall/Winter season.
It’s always nice when you can preview new books and this selection doesn’t disappoint! Very excited to read quite a few of the book selections.
A well done collection of stories that had me reading novels that I wouldn't have originally picked up. It makes me excited for the new year of releases!
This is such a great tool to get ideas on which books I want to read this fall/winter. It was awesome to get a little taste of writing style, characters and plot before committing to buying a book you're not super familiar with. The only bad part: you get hooked and your TBR gets much larger. Thanks so much for the previews.
As always, great excerpts included in the newest Buzz Books collection. I've added a few of these on my TBR list. As always, I'm excited to see what books end up in future collections.
Great collection of upcoming YA novels - looking especially forward to That's Not What Happened, The Similars and Gilded Wolves.
These excerpts were excellent reads and made me even more excited for all the upcoming books for the rest of the year!
Quite a useful collection of excerpts, I love the idea of the seasonal Buzz Books. I skipped a few chapters as I was not even remotely interested in some of the more supernatural/fantasy ones. The book I will definitely read as soon as possible is White as Silence, Red as Song. I am also interested in The Similars and When Elephants Fly.
Buzz Books is great because I can preview some of my most anticipated YA releases, as well as learn about some new titles I hadn't heard of yet. As a blogger/review with limited time, a compiled list of books like this is a huge help when determining what books I should pay attention to in the upcoming months!
Love love love Buzz Books! Helps me to determine what is being published that I want to put on my "To Read List".
A good insight into the upcoming Young Adult books coming out in the remainder of the year. I am personally looking forward to the Kody Keplinger one and the Courtney Summers one, plus the one titled Mammoth.
This is so so helpful! Highlights a wide variety of upcoming YA novels, so I know what to look out for! :)
I enjoy reading this every time it is published. I use the list in the front to search upcoming titles, and then I read the samples for the ones that sound good on Goodreads. Three caught my eye this time: When Elephants Fly, House With a Thousand Eyes, and Julie Kawaga (so?)’s new one.
I really loved being able to get sneak peaks of some of my most anticipated reads of the year! It's good to get this early look at certain books so that you know what to request here on NetGalley and also what to buy for yourself.
I really like that Buzz Books allows you to read excerpts from upcoming novels as it gives you a taste of the authors writing style, the fictional world it's set in, and more importantly the characters. This is the first time I've read a catalogue like this, and I'll definitely be looking for the next release by Publishers Lunch.
I'm super pumped for almost all of these books; these excerpts just intensified this feeling. This was super handy because now I get to decide which books I want to read right as they release!
This is an especially nice collection with a little bit of everything and some intriguing off-the-beaten path entries. Worth checking out.
I was trying to write a post about the books I'm most excited for that come out in the second half of 2018 and I was stuck until I read this. These Buzz Books are a great way to keep up with all the books I need to put on my TBR!
I'm seeing a lot of titles here that I'm really looking forward to (and a few that I hadn't heard of yet, which always really exciting!) Mammoth sounded interesting based on the synopsis but, on reading the excerpt, I suspect it won't be my thing. The Gilded Wolves sounds intriguing, the style feels a little different from Roshani Chokshi's earlier books. The Similars has kind of caught my attention with the excerpt in a way it didn't with the synopsis alone, so that might be something I wind up checking out. I've been hit-and-miss with Julie Kagawa's work in the past but Shadow of the Fox has me more intrigued than I was expecting. A Spark of White Fire is a title new to me and it does sound interesting. Retellings in space are a trend I can seriously get behind, if it is, in fact, becoming a trend (The Lunar Chronicles, Heart of Iron...) Ignite the Stars honestly had me at the first sentence of the synopsis... I'm always intrigued y criminal masterminds. I'm of two minds about Girls of Paper and Fire... I think it might be a library read at some point...
I really liked getting a chance to peak at these! It sounds like it's going to be an interesting rest of 2018.
I downloaded this to read the preview of Sadie! I'm so excited for the release of this book! There has been so much buzz around it, the cover is beautiful, and I've heard great things about her past works. I will definitely be picking it up when it comes out.
I love being able to read the first chapters of upcoming books! Especially looking forward to The Gilded Wolves, Ignite the Stars, Girls of Paper and Fire, Shadow of a Fox and Mammoth. Keep the Buzz Books coming!
I always enjoy getting these preview from Netgalley. I especially love that they include a preview of some of the most anticipated books. I always find something good!
Thank you to Net Galley & Publishers Lunch for providing me with this arc in exchange for my honest review.
What a fun preview of up and coming books. A great way to find some new books to add to my tbd list. Fun read. Fun previews.
I love Buzz Books! They are great guide for the books coming out soon and I always find a few that I hadn't even heard about but MUST read! Really well done guides!
Another great edition of Buzz Books. I love YA fiction so I've requested a few and will be looking out for others! I look forward to the next edition.
Wow! A really great way to get access to new novels that are coming out. While some were, of course, better than others, it was a brilliant selection. I think the best part was that the excerpts were fleshy, and not the skimpy stuff you usually get. Enjoy!
I love this sampler and always look forward to each edition to help me see what's coming up next. I found some great titles that I'm excited to read, requesting some galleys and adding others to goodreads to remember later when galleys weren't available.
As always, this provides the best of the best as to what we should all look forward to in Young Adult Fall/Winter releases for this year. It's always great to get reading samples of books from those that sound appealing or new books from favorite writers to test the waters.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thrilled to find Buzz Books 2018: Young Adult Fall/Winter as I’m getting more into YA books and looking for some good titles. This fine edition fit the bill! 5/5
Thanks to Publishers Lunch BUZZ BOOKS and NetGalley for this fun read. Opinions are mine.
This was a great preview of what’s to come. Can’t wait for some of the books!! Especially looking forward to Sadie!
There are a lot of great books coming out. These excerpts are always helpful to find what the best books will be.
Loved the opportunity to take a look at the exciting new releases coming soon - have a few to mark on my calendar!
The YA edition of the Buzz Books Fall/Winter 2018 compilation includes a few noteworthy titles to look forward to.
1. The House of One Thousand Eyes by Michelle Barker (September 11, 2018; Annick Press)
2. The Similars by Rebecca Hanover (January 1, 2019; Sourcebooks Fire)
3. Sadie by Courtney Summers (September 4, 2018; Wednesday Books)
4. That's Not What Happened by Kody Keplinger (August 28, 2018; Scholastic Press)
This was a great look at some of the upcoming young adult releases for the end of the year. I enjoyed being able to read excerpts from a variety of genres and many of the books featured are not those I would typically reach for. This has informed me of a number of future releases I hadn't heard about and, while not everything was my cup of tea, it has introduced me to several books I plan to pick up upon their release.
I really enjoyed reading these snipets of upcoming releases. Getting a sample helps me plan what books I want to get my hands on when they release.
I am looking forward to reading :Sadie, Girl of Paper and Fire, and several other stories included in this sampler.
Loved this edition. I love reading the summary and excerpts. It provides you such a great variety and so many more options that you usually wouldn't explore. Got so many new books that I'm so excited to read!
I love these chapter samplers! This snazzy book sampler features known authors and debut authors, and I loved discovering them all. I'm really excited for them all!
I enjoy discovering new books from tried and true authors and books from new authors and this is a good resource to have when looking for upcoming books.
Always loving reading the Buzz preview selections. It helps me get know what to pre-order on Amazon!
As a middle school librarian, these Buzz Books are such a help. The list of upcoming titles and excerpts are much more than reviews read in other places.
This book got me so pumped for books yet to be released!
I''ve already pre-ordered several books from this collection :)
I love this book as it allows me to preview titles for my school library. I also use this publication to plan for my Battle of the Books and Teen Reader's Choice Award programmes.
A great guide to help me choose future books to request. Looks like some great books are coming up.
Book like this are ideal because they give just enough of a story to entice, intrigue, and in some cases want more of the little that was glimpsed.
I just added a few titles from this to my never ending TBR list and will be waiting patiently for another teaser book for the upcoming year.
I really enjoyed these excerpts, especially the ones from The Gilded Wolves, Shadow of the Fox, A Spark of White Fire, Girls of Paper and Fire and The Grim Lovelies. I can't wait to read these books in their entirety!
Love these collections, as always. Quite a few excerpts that led me on to other books -- most excited to read Sadie!
While YA isn't my go-to genre, this definitely provides a good preview of some really good YA books that will be coming out this fall/winter. I may have to add some of these to my TBR list!
As usual, great sneak peek of this fall's best YA fiction! I have already requested The Gilded Wolves and Sadie. I'll definitely read That's not whet happened, and also loved the excerpts of Grim Lovelies, The House of One Thousand Eyes, and Shadow of the Fox. Great that some middle school pieces are also included in this selection.
I look forward to Buzz Books issues to give me an idea of books to anticipate in the coming season and to determine what I might want to read. This Young Adult issue hightlights a variety of talent and genres for Fall/Winter 2018. At first there is a listing of all Fiction and Non-Fiction YA books for the season - naturally the non-fiction is a small list compared to a huge listing of novels.
There were sixteeen excerpts the publishers have showcased and I read all of them greedily. and found four that I really would like to read - especially The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi and Sadie by Courtney Summers. From the listing in the front I found another four or five authors I try to follow with books coming out. Looks like a great season for YA books!
Many thanks to Publishers Lunch BUZZ BOOKS through Netgalley for this great preview!
Thanks NetGalley for providing these previews, they're awesome!! I really appreciate being able to get a peek at the upcoming YA titles. I think it's a good gauge on what will and won't be popular trend wise to see the different types of books being published.
Fantastic teasers for upcoming books always sets me off adding to my TBR and requesting. Fab resource- I watch eagerly biannual.
As always, Buzz Books is giving me loads of new titles for me to be excited about. I recommend Buzz Books for every book lover that needs to know what new releases are coming in next seasons.
I absolutely LOVE Buzz Books!! It's such an amazing way to check out upcoming releases and see which books I should be adding to my TBR list. There are quite of few promising titles in here but out of all the Fall/Winter releases I am especially excited for The Gilded Wolves, Girls of Paper and Fire, and Shadow of the Fox!
The BuzzBooks guides are essential for planning out my reading calendar. Yes, I have a reading calendar.
From this book, I've fallen in love with The House of One Thousand Eyes, have The Similars ready to read, and wasn't approved for the Girls of Paper and Fire so I'm entering every contest possible for a copy.
Great book to find out about new and upcoming novels coming out. There are snippets and lists to help you out. I really enjoyed it.
Buzz Books is always fantastic at letting me keep an eye out on what's coming out and discover new titles to review! Extremely excited about The Gilded Wolves coming out after reading the excerpt!
I cannot wait for the release of a lot of these books. The Gilded Wolves is decadent and fantastic. Kody Keplinger's new book is going to stir up some controversy and I can't wait for the whole book!
This was a great way to get a sense of some of the top books coming out soon. I loved being able to read the first chapter or two of each book picked to get a sense of the author's writing style and story!
I love previewing the upcoming new releases. I use this book to get together my list of upcoming books. It makes the wait, that much better.
This was a great resource for 2018 titles. Some I'm most excited for are:
* what if it's us
* the gilded wolves
* the caged queen
* mirage
* shadow of the fox
* empress of all seasons
* the devil's thief
* a blade so black
* archenemies
* girls of paper and fire
* legacy of light
*not even bones
* odd one out
* once a king
* pride
this preview had a few titles on my tbr excited pile!!! I didn't read everything :guilty: because I can be an extremely picky reader based on the mood that hits me (for god's sake, I put down cat's captive prince five chapters in when it was still available as original online fiction!!! I picked it up a year and a half year later and despaired that I'd been such an idiot.)
so, here's a selection of reviews that vary in length:
mammoth by jill baguchinsky
oh my god what a ride. I love the main character already- smart and classily, if a little work inappropriate, dressed.
the house of one thousand eyes by michelle barker
I did a course on european history and we spent a week on the gdr- including watching a german film about a member of the stasi spying on a couple. im a sucker for historical fiction and i love the vibes of this book. lena is a sympathetic main character and her uncle is erratic and mysterious.
the gilded wolves by roshni chokshi
this excerpt is taunting me with its desirability!!!! to my coy mistress (netgalley) please grant me the pleasure of this arc in my library!!! it contains a few of my favourite things, including alternate histories, magic, vengeance and heists!! short to the point of taunting but oh, so sweet.
shadow of the wolf by julie kagawa
o julie kagawaaaa- i havent had a good experience with you in the past, but i am quite willing to give you a chance. she is quite good at worldbuilding and the preview here really allows it to sink into your bones and provide ~atmosphere~. also the end is fucking creepy. kudos to jules for the the ol game of thrones method: exposition by execution of character narrating the first chapter. at least it was announced in the first paragraph, which gave me time to brace myself. I love court mystery and intrigue, but i get the feeling from the summary that this aint it. still, i absolutely love japanese history and mythology so i want to give this a crack (i was also approved for an arc get hype!!)
girls of paper and fire by natasha ngan
omfgggg im so hype for this book i added it to my tbr: excited about a week ago and i still cant believe i was approved for an arc!! divertsity ftw!!! this preview only shows a little of lei's story before the real struggle begins, but it was the summary that truly drew me in. and all the reviews ive read about this book beforehand.
the worldbuilding isnt in your face and we can immediately tell that we're not in your stock standard western fantasy world. i originally read 'forbidden fantasy' and rolled my eyes because, god, what a cliche. and then some reviews shed a light on this so called forbidden romance ans i did a complete 180 because SIS!!!! THIS IS IT!!!! 20gayteen is HERE!!!! sapphic east asian fantasy is IN!!
i have heard great things about this book and the author so i am prepared to be impressed. the cover is absolutely gorgeous as well- be still my beating heart!
im going zoom over and devour the entire thing once i finish work today (im actually writing this in a lull between patients right now lol)
A great preview of upcoming YA books! It included excerpts from many titles that were great for getting a taste of the book!
I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book so I could give an honest review. Even though this is the ninth edition of Buzz Books: Young Adult, it is the first I had read. It includes excerpts from upcoming and recently published young adult books. After finishing some of the stories, I immediately ordered their corresponding books because I HAD to finish reading them and was annoyed I didn't have it available to finish it immediately. Others, well, I liked reading them but would not continue reading the rest of the book. This edition provided an eclectic line up of stories and a nice mixture YA sub-genres. Because of people's natural tendency to gravitate to what you are comfortable or familiar with I tend to read the same sub-genres of YA more than others. If I have a choice, I prefer to read more fantasy YA then novels that about real life. I enjoyed reading excepts from books that I would not have normally chosen.
I like the idea of possibly knowing about the next huge book or series before it's published. Also, knowing about them makes a great conversation starter with my children. I would definitely read other Buzz Book collections to help make informed suggestions of selecting books for myself and my children.
Great selection of books that are coming our soon! Can't wait to read and sell some of them. Loving some of the contemporary titles that are due to come out.
I loved this collection of book excerpts and reviews for up and coming books. I loved the previous Buzz Books collections, and once again this one had me scoping out a bunch of new books, and adding them all to my TBR. I am most excited for Sadie, as I have seen so much action on Litsy about it, and the blurb on it definitely caught my interest.
A huge thank you to NetGalley for sending me a digital copy of these book previews in exchange for an honest review. I truly appreciate it!
Thank you for a chance to get a sneek peek of new books this fall. There are several that I look forward to reading!
I discovered a few books that I will definitely be checking into because of this resource. I like being given a heads up on new and upcoming titles, it helps me make some of my reading decisions easier!
This book is an invaluable tool for Reading teachers who don't have enough time to read every book that comes out. You can read a synopsis or even small passage from new books and then look for the perfect student to match that book with. This book is also great for just finding books to read for yourself.
I love these books! I'm always finding new titles to read and I love reading the excepts! Such a great resource for readers and book professionals.
I only got this to read the part about Sadie, kept seeing reviews on my feed and was interested to see how it read. This really helps get you to add things to your TBR for sure.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for sending me a digital ARC of so many books. I really enjoy Buzz Books. I am very excited to read "The Gilded Wolves" by Roshani Chokshi. The bit that I read was very good and drew me in. I have already purchased "Shadow of the Fox by Juie Kagawa for the library. Some really wonderful fantasy and science fiction YA coming out in the next few months.
Buzz Books are always an awesome way to sample upcoming titles. I always look forward to the "buffet" of snippets to whet my appetite. It's a quick way to explore genres, styles, and authors I might not otherwise think to try! Thanks!
This Buzz Book: YA is incredible! It’s a great list and way to find out what you should be on the lookout for. Can’t wait to get some of these in full length.
I enjoy seeing what is coming up. It helps me to decide what I want to watch out for in the upcoming season. Thank you for providing these guides. I think I would be lost without them.
Thank you Netgalley and Buzzbooks for another great list of YA books to add to my TBR list.
I thoroughly enjoy reading these catalogues.
