I am enjoying this series and journey through history as each book progresses and written by a different author.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and Faith and Matthew’s story. I also like George Washington and Ben Franklin being a part of the story. You don’t often see this historical figure as part of a fiction book.
If this time period interests you and like a good romance I recommend this one.

Title: The Patriot Bride
Author: Kimberley Woodhouse
Series: Daughters of the Mayflower book 4
Ch: 24 plus Epilogue
Pages: 256
Genre: Christian Historical fiction with a hint of romance
Rating: 3 stars
The Patriot Bride by Kimberley Woodhouse is book four in The Daughter of the Mayflower is a series that follows one family and its descendants from the Mayflower, and to me it seems like after the first book the books don't really have to be read in order. In the Patriot Bride Faith Jackson is a young wealthy widow who happens to be friends with George and Martha Washington and a strong Patriot.
Matthew Weber is a patriot as well, friends with both Benjamin Franklin and his son William; Matthew is spy. He's pretending to be a loyalist in order to pass on information to the patriot cause. Faith volunteers to be the person who will pass on the information to and from Matthew. Once they get to know each Matthew and Faith wonder if their feelings as well as their lives will have to be given up for the sake of the country.
I've always enjoyed historical fiction especially fiction about the American Revolution. This is second book about spies during the Revolution that I have read the first being Ring of Secrets by Roseanna M. White the first book The Culper Ring trilogy. History has proven that spies were indeed use during the American Revelation George Washington even asked to have a spy ring started.
While The Patriot Bride wasn't my favorite book in the series, what now that is book The Captured Bride by Michelle Griep I do plan to continue the series and look forward to the next one book 5 The Cumberland Bride by Shannon McNear. Book 1 is The Mayflower Bride by Kimberly Woodhouse and book 2 The Pirate Bride by Kathleen Y'Barbo. As of right now this series is set to have 8 books. With The Liberty Bride by Marylu Tyndall of Christian pirate novel frame, The Alamo Bride by Kathleen Y'Barbo and The Golden Bride by Kimberly Woodhouse to finish off the series.

The Patriot Bride is the story of two people both fighting for the Patriot cause at the beginning of the Revolutionary War. While passing coded messages to one another on Midnight meetings, Faith Jackson, an independent and brave widow , falls in love with Mathew Weber, a handsome Patriot spy hiding among Loyalists. In the midst of war their love is tested both for each other and their country.
The Patriot Bride by Kimberley Woodhouse is book four in the Daughter’s of the Mayflower series. I have enjoyed reading the installments in this historical series, “ The Patriot Bride” was not one of my favorites however. The Revolutionary War is an intriguing time and I had high hopes for this book. The theme of this story was intriguing but I found that I couldn’t quite get hooked. The real excitement doesn’t come until about 70 percent of the way through the book. I just found it to be a bit slow. The author is well written but I would have liked a little more intrigue to grab my attention in the beginning of the book. I also would have liked a little more development of Matthew’s character. I feel like the reader knew very little about him other than his political leanings.

This is such a good book, once you start reading it you can't stop! I loved how the stories of faith and suspense keep me reading to find out what happened next. You won't regret getting this book. Thank you Barbour Publishing via NetGalley for the free copy. This is my honest opinion.

I have followed Kimberley Woodhouse since, what I believe is, her first book, which was auto-biographical about her family. Who knew she could write such spectacular fiction as well! I love history (especially American) and what more enjoyable way to refresh your memories of the old college classes than to read about it in a well-written stories that brings famous historical characters to life.
Faith Lytton Jackson (having been widowed in a week's time) had been very closely aligned to George Washington since childhood, while Matthew Weber had been mentored by Benjamin Franklin. While Matthew is a spy for "the good side", Faith has been asked to be his courier.
Even though you know how the war ends, you find yourself on the edge of the seat, waiting for the battles which will decide our country's fate.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Patriot Bride, the fourth book in Daughters of the Mayflower series. Kimberley Woodhouse is an awesome story teller, and I love how she combined fictional characters with real people. It is a love story that took place during the Revolutionary War. I learned more about the Revolution than I ever learned from taking American History in school. It again reminds us that Christianity played a huge part in our history and should never be taken away from it. There is horror as in any war, but also compassion, and the love for our great country. At end of the book there is a copy of The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America, and also a list of web sites to visit. If you love Historical Romance books, this is one you should not miss.

I loved everything about this book: the time period, the characters, etc. I have always enjoyed learning and reading about the Revolutionary War period.
Faith had courage and gumption. She was a strong female. She wasn't a weak female who waited for a man to save her.
Matthew was a man of integrity. He was the whole package. Swoon!
Great story. I really loved that Ben Franklin and George Washington were a part of this wonderful story.
I highly recommend reading this series "The Daughters of the Mayflower".
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.

Connected through George Washington, Faith Jackson and Matthew Weber work for the Patriot cause in the Colonies. Faith was a ward of George’s from about age 10 while Matthew has been his lifelong friend. A young widow, Faith is well-heeled yet alone. Matthew is a staunch supporter of liberty, but must pose as a Loyalists to spy for the Colonies. Ben Franklin also enters the story, with a daring rescue.
I thought the first half of the book moved slowly and then it really picked up steam. Overall I enjoyed the trials of Faith and Matthew, along with the cameo appearances of George and Ben.
This is book 4 in a series. Each book seems to be stand-alone in topic and time period, though.

What a pleasant read! Thank you, NetGalley for providing me with a free copy. (Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.)
The history was on point and the historical characters who were mere shadows in my mind became real and colorful. Woodhouse definitely did her research, but did not allow this to confine her imagination.
One of my favorite things was the place that Christianity had. Faith was a strong, Godly woman who was inspiring not only to the other characters in the book, but also to me, the reader. Although the romance was a bit slow, I loved how Faith and Mathew built their love off of friendship.
Moving on to the writing, it was okay. Maybe a bit plain for my taste. I think out of everything, it was what brought this story down a notch.
Altogether, this was an enjoyable and clean read. I recommend it those who love historical romance.

The Patriot Bride by Kimberley Woodhouse
Spies, double-agents, traitors, intrigue, and marriage proposals
Who would have thought a feisty widow would be entrenched in such dealings!
Anthony Jameson didn’t really care which side was right or which cause was just. And he wasn’t confident about who was going to win the war. So instead of taking the risk of making the wrong choice, he decided to play both sides and come out on top either way. It wasn’t the wisest decision he ever made. Anthony made for a perfect villain and did his best to cause problems for the lovely widow, Faith.
Faith had been orphaned as a young girl and her dear friend, George, was appointed her guardian. Tragedy struck her life again when she was just a young lady and her husband of just one week was killed in battle. Despite these things, she had a close relationship with the Lord and was strong and dedicated to serving her country. She was confident and clever which served her well when faced with a persistent and unwanted suitor and enemy soldiers taking over her city.
The majority of the story revolved around Faith, which was in my opinion, wonderful! Seeing the way she and her neighbors served the Patriots, not only in making yarn and cloth but also in coding messages that could be delivered as needed. Who knew! I loved the parts of the story that were told from her point of view and the perspective they gave to how women might have felt during significant events leading to the war, especially the night of Paul Revere’s famous ride. (As a side note, I was fascinated at learning that the events of that night didn’t take place the way I had always imagined – with men on horseback loudly yelling through the streets “The British are coming!”)
Authors of novels that include “real” people have quite a challenge – that of staying true to known facts so as to not be taken to task for not knowing what they are talking about. Author Kimberley Woodhouse bravely included not just one prominent historical figure but two in The Patriot Bride. I really enjoyed the portrayals of George Washington and Benjamin Franklin in this book and seeing them in such a personal light – as mentors, guardians, and friends. It was almost strange seeing them referred to so familiarly, as George and Ben – how often do you hear them referred to in this manner?
This series follows a family who had come over on the Mayflower. Each book is designed to stand alone, though reference may be made to the original family. If you read just one or read them out of order you will not feel lost or that you have missed anything. I have loved each of them, though, so I can recommend that you read them all.

The daughters of Mayflower series is not for the faint-hearted! It is full of adventure and history, and, the casualties of both. The Patriot Bride by Kimberley Woodhouse opens with Faith losing her parents, and whilst loved and cared for, her life doesn’t get easier. The looming war draws her into the role of messenger between a spy and the Loyalists, a dangerous and precarious position. Getting to know Faith and Matthew is interesting as is the historical context. To keep fighting for what they believe in, they both go above and beyond as do their friends. I found this one a slightly slower pace than the others in the series but beautifully written. A five out of five and, I eagerly await the next one!

I was surprised that such well-known real-life historical figures George Washington and Benjamin Franklin were incorporated into this story, but I loved seeing them with relationships and conversations that made them seem more human rather than iconic. Faith is an intrepid character, full of bravery, strength, and conviction. I enjoyed the prologue with Faith as a ten-year-old playing war games with the neighborhood boys. It showcased her tenacity and clever intellect, and was an attention-catching beginning to a story that had a somewhat slow but steady pace. The spy activities brought a strong element of suspense and tension to the plot, and I was fascinated by the methods and strategies employed by the Patriots as they prepared for revolution. The romance between Faith and Matthew is sweet and gentle in the midst of the turmoil, and I loved their relationship. A story that will definitely be enjoyed by fans of historical fiction!

Faith Jackson has lost much in life except for her ability to still love - her friends, her servants, her country. Therefore, when the Patriot cause needs a woman to take forwards messages to and from a spy, she is not hesitant to volunteer. Matthew Weber has dreams of his own, such as seeing his country free from British rule. As a spy, he knows he's been given a most difficult task, but he's willing to sacrifice his own wants for the bigger cause. What he didn't expect is for his messenger transporter be a lovely and smart woman who makes it difficult for him to give up on so much. As lines are drawn and the dangers of war become certain, Faith and Matthew must discern how to fight for their country as well as each other, a position that requires so much sacrifice that it can result in heartbreak but also the fulfillment of many dreams.
The research the author did for this book is superb! She brought the setting and he characters truly to life.
Another lovely addition to the series.

I love reading about the American Revolution, so I was anticipating this book. It did not disappoint. I enjoyed reading Faith and Matthew’s story. It was a sweet romance amidst great change and uncertainty.

This is the fourth book in the Daughters of the Mayflower series and I've read them all.
You've got to admire a plucky female that plays war games with the boys as a child, unafraid even though she was smaller than them all. War games require quite the strategy and you can be sure she has it. Widowed after a very short time of marriage but because of her marriage she is set financially. She calls men in high standing friend and among them she counts, George Washington. As a staunch supporter of the Patriot cause living in Boston, she holds meetings with like minded women but her her world turns upside down when the British invade.
Matthew Weber is also working to aid the Patriot cause. As the city is in turmoil will their cause survive the uncertainty of danger lurking around every corner? I think the walls have ears as private conversations seem to be heard by not just the intended party. A mad man stalks Faith, is he interested in her for herself or is it something else entirely? Will Faith and Matthew have to sacrifice their new relationship for their loyalty to their country or will the danger subside with a little help from friends. Wow, this is definitely my favorite book in the series so far. Can't wait to read the rest!

I am reviewing a copy of The Patriot Bride through Barbour Books and Netgalley:
In this book we meet Faith Jackson, a wealthy widow as well as a friend of George Washington. She is also a great supporter of the Patriot cause.
We also meet Matthew Weber a man whose friends with both Ben Franklin as well as his son William. Ben and William differ in their Political views, which allows Matthew to privy on both sides.
When a message needs to be sent to a Loyalist it is Faith who bravely steps up, and in doing so she meets Matthew Weber, which allows her to believe she could love again. Someone else has his eyes on Faith the Faith she shows those in elite social circles.
What will Matthew and Faith end up sacrificing for the sake of their fledgling country?
Find out in The Patriot Bride!
Five out of five stars!
Happy Reading!

I enjoyed reading The Patriot Bride. I really like strong female characters as Faith is. She started head strong and loved challenges. Her friendship with her older neighbor George was one that was valued by both parties. Tragedy hits Faiths life and she loses her parents. George steps in as her guardian and does his best to guide her and give her a good life. She marries a man George has hand picked for her and loses him not long after they marry. Faith has a group of ladies she is working with to help with coding for the patriots. She volunteers to assist with Matthew a spy within the Loyalist. Matthew is friend a friend to Benjamin Franklin who helps him with his plans. They are very attracted to each other and fall in love. She has a gentleman who is after her for her money . Mr Jameson tries to ruin her future with Matthew by turning him and her in to the Colonists. With the help from her house staff she is able to escape. Her loyal butler Clayton assist her in finding Matthew. I have enjoyed all the books in this series so far. I was given this book as an Advanced read for my honest review.

I really enjoyed reading this fourth book in the Daughters of the Mayflower series. I have previously read "The Pirate Bride" and looked forward to reading this novel by Kimberley Woodhouse. The historical content of this novel was great and the author took quite a bit of time researching the facts to include. Faith, a spunky widow and charge of George Washington, volunteered for the cause to deliver coded messages to another messenger, Matthew Webber. The romantic part of this book was sweet. It was great getting to know the characters, and I loved the inclusion of their faith. Matthew and Faith are risking their lives delivering coded messages for the Patriots to help them win the war. It was also great to read about events in Fredericksburg, Virginia, which is about ten miles from where we live. You follow their story of risk and eventual love. Great read and cannot wait to read the next book in the series. Thank you to Ms. Woodhouse, Barbour Books, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I’ve really enjoyed The Daughters of the Mayflower series. It’s been fun to get to read some new authors and reacquaint myself with others. The saga continues with a novel set during the fight for independence.
I liked the premise of this book. Faith is a strong, independent woman, so for her it is no hardship to do her part for her country. Matthew is a man who is willing to got to extremes for what he believes in.
However, I just couldn’t get into the story. I thought at times that Matthew’s thoughts and dialogue were too close to how Faith’s ‘sounded’. In some ways, to me, their characters were too similar. It was a fine story, but I think I just don’t connect with this style of writing.
That being said, the attention to detail and the balance of historical fact versus the liberties fiction takes, were done very well.
I’m glad that I read the latest in The Daughters of the Mayflower, but it wasn’t my favorite of the books so far.
