I have read all the books so far in the Daughters of the Mayflower series and all have been great. The Patriot Bride was an easy read that hooked me from the start. I thought the characters and plot were exciting and well written. I liked the main character, Faith, and enjoyed her spunk. I also liked reading about the relationship between Faith and her butler.

There is a lot of history and the romance is tame. I also liked the ladies prayer group that met in Faith's home.

Overall, I recommend anyone to read this book.

I've read all of the books in this series so far, but this was my favorite. The characters are lovable, yet mysterious. The danger is real...the secondary characters are all drawn from history...and it brings up issues about the Revolutionary War era that I'd never considered. Scripture and faith take a central roll as the women, and particularly the three main characters, cope with the world around them and carry out noble, often dangerous, acts in faith.

Yet again Barbour publishing brings another hit in this series! I really love this story line that's been progressing with each new installment. In this installment it follows the story of Matthew and Faith both spies in the middle of the Revolutionary War. Both of whom are trying to do what they feel is right among this out break of war. Can their sense of duty out weigh their ever building love in tension? Also can they submit to God's will?

This book was well written! I found that the author did their homework in bringing us a factual representation of that era and what it was like to live in it during such a major point in history. The writing was flawless. I loved the character building in this book as you see each grow spiritually and as a person in general.

I would definitely give this book 5 stars. It is not necessary to read the other books in this series before this one but i do highly suggest it as each one will leave your heart full! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me an e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I believe I have found my new favorite book from this series! Both of my favorites happen to be the ones written by Kimberly Woodhouse. The Daughters of the Mayflower series is unique in that the different books in the series are not only different time periods, but different authors. While the characters are related going back to the first book, there is enough of a gap (along with only a few references), that enable the stories to be read as stand-alone.

The Patriot Bride takes place in the year leading up to the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It is while working as spies that Faith and Matthew come to know each other and grow in their affections for one another. In my opinion the relationship flowed more naturally than the other books in the series. Being a spy during the time was dangerous business, but how much more to fall in love with one too!

As with many other historical fiction books, I strongly encourage reading the author's notes at the end. Kimberly Woodhouse does a lot of research when writing her stories and shares both what is accurate and what has been altered. I always manage to learn something new from the notes and I find them extremely valuable.

I highly recommend this book (and series) to historical fiction fans! It will stretch you to read about time periods you may not have otherwise, and/or may even spark your interest to learn about those times. I thoroughly enjoyed this read and I hope you will too!

*I received a complimentary copy from NetGalley and the author in hopes of an honest review. I was not obligated to leave a positive review. Thoughts and opinions expressed are mine alone.

I loved this book! The characters were wonderful! I loved Faith and her butler Clayton. I got to read about about George Washington and Ben Franklin mixed with a romance. The author had historical information mixed in with the romance, it teaches the reader what all our for fathers went through to give us the freedom we enjoy today. This book will give you a sense of pride for your country. I would give this book 10 stars if I could. Will definitely read more books from Kimberley Woodhouse!

I have been enjoying the Daughters of the Mayflower series since the very first book The Mayflower Bride (also by Kimberley Woodhouse) and I am still enjoying them!

The Pirate Bride (to be released August 1, 2018) required a lot of research and inspiration for the author as she had to get inside the heads of some very real and important historical figures - Benjamin Franklin and George Washington for instance! But, rest assured the author did a wonderful job.

This particular book was heavy on Scripture, with many passages of the Psalms included. Faith Jackson, our heroine, is recruited to become a spy for the Patriots during the days when America was trying to break free of the tyranny of the English. I learned so much history about this time that it made me wonder why Canadians (of which I'm one) put up with King George. Did he not tax us in the same way? Were we too polite to rebel? I'm going to have to do some research now because this really bothered me.

That said, I loved the mystery and intrigue of this book! Matthew Weber, a Patriot, spying on the Loyalists never expected love to find him during such a dangerous time, but he meets Faith (who brings him coded messages) and love begins to bloom between the two of them.

One thing I loved about this book was the pompous character of Anthony Jameson. What a hoot this character was! He was determined to marry Faith and he wouldn't take no for an answer. Like me, you will be thrilled with how Faith deals with him.

I enjoyed this book very much and look forward to the next installment of The Daughters of the Mayflower.

What do Matthew, Faith, the expected Role of a Woman vs. bucking Society, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Virginia, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Patriots, Loyalists, the American Revolutionary War, Spy's, enprisonment, Freedom, & True Christian Love have in common? You Need to read Kimberley Woodhouse's book:. "The Patriot Bride" to find out!

This Fantastically Engrossing story, is the 4th in the Daughters of The Mayflower series. If you're like me, & love American Historical Romance, then You Need to Read this book. It is a standalone clean story, but the whole series is wonderful too.

I was able to read this story thanks to NetGalley.

This is the fourth book in the Daughters of the Mayflower Series. As I have enjoyed the other books in this series, I found this one to be fantastic as well! This book’s time frame occurs during the United States’ fight for independence. The main character centers on Faith Jackson, a widow. Faith is a woman of independence and courage who is willing to help her friends and those in need even to her determent. Matthew Weber is a spy who Faith befriends. Their interactions lead to ramifications that could benefit or harm the patriots who oppose Britain’s rule. This tale was suspenseful in awaiting what would occur next throughout the book. I loved this next addition to this series and have enjoyed reading the entire series as well. I highly recommend this book and the series! You will not be disappointed! I am looking forward to the next book.
***I was given a free electronic copy of this book from the publisher for an honest review. This is my honest opinion. Even though I received this copy free, I have purchased her books before.

The Patriot Bride is an excellent choice for any who like historical, Christian fiction. It shows faith and trust in hard times. It weaves history and historical figures in with a few fictitious figures into a very compelling story you won't want to quit reading.

The characters were delightfully developed and given good personalities. The story was told so that you felt you were there.

I was slightly disappointed in the ending, partly because I didn't want it to end and partly because it left a little bit unfinished, but I don't want to give anything away so I'll leave it at that.

The editing was done well. I do recommend this book. This book was given to me and I am writing this review of my own free will and my own opinion.

The Patriot Bride was the story of Faith Jackson and Matthew Weber, both spies for the Patriot cause with a lot on the line. Faith Jackson grew up with her best friend, and later custodian, George Washington. Matthew Weber followed Benjamin Franklin, his mentor. The two come together when the cause arises for secret messages to be passed; however, Matthew has the advantage of being a spy for both the Patriots and the British through his friendship with William Franklin. Through their meetings Faith and Matthew begin to develop feelings for each other. Though Faith does not come without other suitors because of her status and wealth, namely Anthony Jamison, a personal friend to the King, who will stop at nothing to make Faith his wife. Through determination and their love, Faith and Matthew defy the odds dealt them and find happiness in the end.

I loved this 4th book of The Mayflower Brides. It kept a good reading pace and the characters were so good, even the secondary characters of George Washington and Ben Franklin. The suspense of their being caught as spies and what might happen to them kept my interest throughout the book. If you are a reader of The Mayflower Brides this is a must read.

This was truly an enjoyable book detailing the immense amount of subterfuge and danger the Patriots and even the Tories, I think, encountered as they fought for what they held dear. I loved how Faith Lytton Jackson is set up as a friend of George Washington, so we get to see much of this early American hero. I also enjoyed seeing insights into Ben Franklin and the rift in his family, imagining the hardship this would cause as many families were likewise torn asunder.

Faith is indeed a very brave, very strong female protagonist. She has to be, to survive so much heartache and also to be the community leader that she is. It is no wonder that she volunteers for such a dangerous job. Sometimes strong women attract the wrong kind of attention. How I laughed at her encounters with Anthony Jameson and how full of himself he was! And how I hoped that things would work out with Matthew, but Faith has already lost so much, will she be able to trust again? And how can two spies find it to forgive deceptions and to trust when their lives have been all about misleading others?

What a great thing it was to me to see the author forego the lengthy lists of her first book. Gone are the long vocabulary lists and lists of who's who that helped to get the first book of the series off to such a slow start. I did have to laugh; Kimberley Woodhouse just can't help getting as much historical detail in as she can, and she found a sneaky way at the end to include a document!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley. This in no way affected my opinions, for which I am solely responsible.

History, romance and intrigue come together to create an engaging story in book four of the Daughters of the Mayflower series!
A little bit more of a connection to book one given this is the same author, which made this interesting. Chock full of historical facts and figures, but with a lot of play on actual conversations and events, made the story feel plausible. The author includes a nice introduction and end notes to help sort fact from fiction.

Seeing the conflict from the main character's perspective helped me imagine what the people of the time actually went through as their land was occupied by martial law, and freedom became a battle cry. It must have been terrifying, yet they courageously laid themselves on the line, hoping for future generations to experience the freedom they sought. It made me appreciate even more the sacrifice of many who serve in the military today to maintain our country's freedom. Freedom is indeed not free.
There are some Christian themes and prayers for strength and direction. I liked the group of ladies who rallied around Faith to support her, and how they read through Psalms, memorizing verses for hope and inspiration.

Historical romance fans who like an inspirational read will probably enjoy this book.

I enjoyed "The Patriot Bride" just as much as I've loved the other books in this series. The historical background is excellent, and the plot and characters are well developed. I truly enjoy the main characters interactions with real life historical figures, and appreciated the insight into the part many civilians played during the Revolutionary War. This story kept my attention throughout. I highly recommend this book!

This book started out slow, but it really picked up. The book follows Faith, a young woman, in the beginning of the United States. Faith was a strong independent woman that loved her country and wanted to do what she could to fight for freedom. I loved seeing the development of romance in the middle of a war between Faith and Matthew, a spy posing as a Loyalist for the Colonists. The dedication of the men and women of this time period was shown well in the story. I never really thought about all that the colonist had to go through while fighting for independence. I highly recommend this book to those that love sweet romance in the middle of trials.

This was a quick and enjoyable Christian historical romance. I especially enjoyed the setting of the American colonies during the American Revolution. I also enjoyed that creative license was used to incorporate George Washington, and Benjamin Franklin as characters. The romance and relationship were slightly stilted for me, but I liked the overall storyline. This book had both suspense and humor. I skimmed some of the longer scripture passages that were inserted in the story.

This book can easily be read as a standalone, although it is part of the Mayflower Brides series.

Well researched, author Kimberley Woodhouse does a great job of weaving together fact and fiction to make history come to life. You’ll recognize many of the characters in this story, and meet some new ones.

Learning to put God first, and to trust again, gives this a timeless draw. The descriptions of people, places, and events are intriguing and add to the plot of the story. With suspense and a light romance, this book has something for every history lover.

It's the beginning of American Independence and we follow Faith Jackson and Matthew Weber as they volunteer to become spies for the Revolutionists. Matthew goes "behind enemy lines" to gain information from the Loyalists to bring back to the Patriots. Faith will code and deliver letters between Matthew and a secret source that brings them to her home. This is how Faith and Matthew's fast growing friendship forms. They must rely and trust each other to keep from being caught because the stakes are extremely high!

One of my favorite aspects of this story is that because of the time period that it takes place two of the supporting characters are George Washington, Faith's very dear childhood friend and later guardian, and Benjamin Franklin, Matthew's mentor. It was such a fun aspect of the story to have those two extremely well known people from United States history play a pivotal part in this story.

I've read each of the four books in the Daughter's of the Mayflower series, have enjoyed each one immensly, and The Patriot Bride is no exception. This story is full of wonderful history along with the fictional story that helps bring it to life. I am SO looking forward to the next book, The Cumberland Bride!

The Patriot Bride by Kimberley Woodhouse is another excellent book in the series Daughters of the Mayflower. The reader is immersed in the beginning of the American Revolutionary War. I enjoyed the characters both the famous and the unknown ones. God’s provision, joy, grace, belief, trust, laughter and love are important thoughout this story. History, romance, spies, war, women, faith, prayer and the Bible make this an exciting book. I hope to read all the books in this wonderful historical series. I would like to thank the author, the publisher and netgalley for making this book available to me to read and review.

The Patriot Bride (Daughters of the Mayflower #4) by Kimberley Woodhouse is rich in history. It is full of political intrigue, spies and romance. A rich widow holds Bible study meetings with a group of women who are eager to help with the Patriot cause in whatever way they can. A Patriot, Matthew, becomes a loyalist so he can get information to the Patriots, so he becomes a spy. An important part of our history told in an exciting story. Looking forward to more stories in this series!

The Patriot Bride by Kimberley Woodhouse is fourth in the Daughters of the Mayflower series and I cannot wait for the next book to be released. The books in this series are easily read as stand-alone stories and are such a great collection of stories about the history of the United States. Woodhouse has done a great job with the history and setting enabling the readers to feel like they are right there in the middle of the scenes. The mix of fictional characters with historical figures makes the story interesting and authentic. I enjoyed seeing the fictional accounts of Ben Franklin and George Washington. The sweet romance between Faith and Matthew is engaging and delightful to watch unfold despite the difficulties they encountered with Boston being embroiled in war. Faith is an independent and feisty young widow, having tragically lost her parents at age 12 and then her husband shortly after their marriage. Matthew is a brave Patriot who works tirelessly to fight for the freedom of the colonies from the tyrannical rule of England. I really enjoyed Faith's relationship with her servants and their loyalty to her. The author adds some humor to the story with the introduction of an egotistical and headstrong would-be suitor for Faith. The characters are vivid and lovable and their growth and maturity throughout the story is realistic. The Patriot Bride is replete with information about the history of our nation and the struggles the Patriots found themselves facing as war with England began. The author makes the story intriguing with action scenes and suspense. And with a strong thread of faith in God throughout, the book is also inspirational as the reader can see how God's hand is at work in the lives of the individuals. As noted, I look forward to reading the next book, The Cumberland Bride.

Rich with historical details this page-turning story takes readers on a journey through time back to the tumultuous beginnings of our county. Neighbors and even family find themselves on conflicting sides as a new nation is created to ensure that it’s people continue to enjoy the freedoms they anticipated enjoying when they left their native homeland to carve out a living in this vast new land.

With delightfully unique characters, and an exciting plot line of espionage and mystery readers are sure to find much to enjoy in this latest addition to the Daughters of the Mayflower collection. Readers who haven’t yet enjoyed the earlier stories, will not feel lost jumping right in with The Patriot Bride. However, I’d encourage you to make time to enjoy the other stories as well, as they are equally delightful!

Faith Jackson is a feisty heroine with sharp mind, and strong opinions. She is independent and able to take care of not only herself but of those in her circle of influence. Her efforts to further the Patriot cause lead her to volunteering to carry secret correspondence to a spy deeply entrenched in the Loyalist camp. But will she have to sacrifice more than she first thought for the sake of the Patriot cause?

Those who enjoy Colonial period stories will not want to miss out on this page-turning experience. I give this book 4.5 stars and encourage you to pick up this story to enjoy at your earliest convenience.

The Patriot Bride by Kimberly Woodhouse is Book 4 of the Daughters of the Mayflower series. It is set in the beginnings of the Revolutionary war. We find the war challenging alliances and pitting family members against each other. Can love survive if one keeps the focus on God for protection and guidance?
I have read all of the books in this series and find each of them to be exciting and intriguing. I don’t want to put them down so they are a fast read for me. The author blends actual historical events with fiction in a seamless way to create a story that draws the reader in. She also explains at the end her research and where he has made up specific details to help the story flow. The characters are true to life and exhibit bravery in the face of war. It is so easy to dislike those who are not trustworthy and try to work both sides to get the best deal for themselves. Scripture is quoted throughout the book but not in a preachy way; it is used as the character might read it in her life. It in no way takes away from the story line. This book is well written and would make a nice gift for a friend who loves reading Christian novels based on history. I give this book a 5 of 5 stars.

Spying for the Colonies

Living in Boston as the Colonies prepared for the Revolutionary War was dangerous, but also exciting. Faith Jackson, a wealthy widow and ward of George Washington, is a patriot who wants to help her country. When a message needs to be passed to a Loyalist, Faith becomes the courier in spite of the danger.

Mathew Weber is a friend to both Ben Franklin and his son William. As the opinions about the revolution separate Ben and William, Mathew finds himself getting information on the impending conflict from both sides. He too becomes a spy. He gets to know Faith through clandestine meetings and they begin to see in each other the possibility for new love.

This is a good historical novel, historically accurate, and with a romantic plot. However, I found this fourth book more disappointing than the earlier books. This was due to the use of historical figures like Washington and Franklin. I have read a great deal about the period and both Washington and Franklin. I didn’t think the portrayal of either rang true. This is always a problem when well know characters are used in a historical fiction, because many people already have preconceived ideas of the characters, their motivations, and how they would behave.

The other characters are better. Faith is a strong woman with solutions that while they work are often unusual. Mathew is a good foil for Faith. He’s honest and ready to take chances for the cause of the Colonies. Their love and faith are good themes for the book.

If you enjoy a good historical novel, you’ll like this one.

I thoroughly enjoyed this account of America’s turning point in history. The men and women who fought for our independence and took risks to ensure our freedom were portrayed so vividly. With each Daughters of the Mayflower book, I’ve been able to piece together how this great nation was formed and governed.

Kimberley Woodhouse has done her research and it shows! She brought both George Washington and Ben Franklin to life in my mind and gave them personalities. I could hear Paul Revere call out “The British are coming” and the fear it instilled in many of the Patriots hearts. It was a time of uncertainty in our nation where both friends and families were divided and loyalties tested. I could not imagine living in this era! It was so real to me as if a movie were playing in my mind; Woodhouse did an exceptional job of describing places, people and events happening! And no story would be complete without a little romance. Both Faith and Matthew felt an immediate attraction the first time they met while secretly passing on messages. But their budding love would be tested as war edged closer and times became more dangerous.

Historical events come to life in this well-written book set before our Independence Day 1776!

I definitely enjoyed reading this book by Kimberley Woodhouse. It was a great combination of fictional and real historical characters. She did a great job of combining the two very well. As supporters of the Patriot cause Faith and Matthew make a great combination. Although times are hard, they continue to forge ahead in a most worthy cause.

I am sure you will really enjoy this book. And I am looking forward to the next in the series! I have loved everyone of them so far!

Inspiring historical fiction! I have thoroughly enjoyed this series, reading all the different time periods. Typically Colonial American fiction is not a genre I read but I really enjoyed these characters - especially the fact that the cast included Benjamin Franklin and George Washington. Compared to the other Daughters of the Mayflower books, I didn't feel like this one had quite as much character development as some of the others, but I really enjoyed reading about independent Faith and dashing hero Matthew. Seeing the Eve of the Revolution unfold through the eyes of these characters was very insightful.
I will continue to read this series! Just as a side note, I would like to see each book in this series include the family tree at the beginning so I can keep everyone straight.

I was pleasantly surprised by The Patriot Bride. I've read the previous novels in the Daughters of the Mayflowers series and enjoyed them, but when I realized part of the story was told from the villian's perspective, I was apprehensive--I usually do not like books when this happens. However, I did enjoy the book despite this. I also thought the author did a good job with the many appearances by real historical characters--this is another one of those things that bothers me when not done well. I liked the romance between Faith and Matthew, but I especially enjoyed the supportive relationships Faith had with her friends, especially the female ones. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series!

Kimberley Woodhouse’s new book brings history to life. With characters like George Washington and Benjamin Franklin, you’ll be on a journey back to the beginning of the Revolutionary War. I learned things I didn’t know before about the time period. You’ll enjoy the love story between two spies. And the villain will make you laugh. The scenes are relatively short and skip through time rather quickly, but the story was easy to read and enjoyable,

I’ve been enjoying The Daughters of the Mayflower series, especially the historical aspect of the different time periods and areas. The Patriot Bride by Kimberley Woodhouse is a strong and engaging addition to the series. The settings in Virginia and Boston during the Revolutionary War captured my interest. The characters are well-developed, and I especially loved Faith’s strength and independence. She just stepped up and did what needed to be done to take care of herself and those she loved. Brimming with historical detail, it’s apparent that Woodhouse has done much research about the era and what life was like in those days. I’m looking forward to the other books in the series.

The story of Faith Jackson and Matthew Weber is sweet, a little dangerous and so good!
I liked Faith when we meet her as a little girl although the prologue is sad it also shows her character as being sharp, adventurous and strong. Qualities that she needed when she became a spy.

Matthew was the perfect partner for her because he is a gentle and caring man. Together he and Faith were interesting and I looked forward to their meetings. I liked that the author gave then plenty of interaction with other characters including George Washington and Benjamin Franklin.

Overall, The Patriot Bride is a very good read. I liked the female friends that were loyal to Faith and I enjoyed their afternoon visits with each other but the one character that I absolutely adored was her butler, Clayton. He was funny and the one character that totally surprised me. I liked both the historical and faith storylines making this one for the keeper shelf.

The Patriot Bride just may be my favorite of the Daughters of the Mayflower series! Kimberley Woodhouse gives attention to historical details of America's independence from Britain! Faith Jackson is a wonderful socialite widow who also delivers secret messages for the Patriots. You will love Matthew Weber, a handsome spy! George Washington and Benjamin Franklin are also important characters in this fiction book! I recommend The Patriot Bride to anyone who enjoys historical fiction. As a Daughter of the American Revolution whose 4th great grandfather served in Patrick Henry's, Lighthorse Brigade, I love to read Revolutionary War fiction, and Kimberley Woodhouse did not disappoint.

Focusing on the time period just before the Revolution began, our hero, Matthew Weber is embroiled in the Patriot movement and finds himself pretending to be a Loyalist in order to spy for the Patriots. The heroine, Faith Lytton Jackson, a descendent of the Mayflower Lyttons, is an extremely wealthy widow who aligns herself with the Patriot movement. Throw in important names like Benjamin Franklin and George Washington, a group of women who learn to send coded messages, knit socks, and pray for the movement; and you have a wonderfully written pre-Revolution novel

Woodhouse's obvious research into the pre-Revolution time period and its events is displayed throughout the novel. I felt like I had stepped right into the midst of that period. Her main characters are well developed and feel very realistic. I loved her ending which was the Declaration of Independence.

Well done and highly recommended.

“All the months of meeting in secret. Passing messages back and forth. They’d shared their hearts in little moments of quiet.”

The Onset of the Revolutionary War, two spies, a man who will not take no for an answer, and supporting roles from George Washington and Benjamin Franklin are just a few of the highlight in The Patriot Bride, the latest release in the Daughters of the Mayflower series.

Kimberley Woodhouse returns with her second book in the series, and I liked revisiting a little of the story from where it all started plus the ties to Plymouth. But even more so, the intrigue, suspense, history, and romance of Faith and Matthew’s story may just be my favorite yet.

Faith Jackson is intelligent, courageous, and headstrong who has surrounded herself with faithful friends and staff (Clayton and Marie were a great addition). She’s also experienced an abundance of loss in her life.

Matthew Weber is in a dangerous situation, embedded deep in enemy territory. But his clandestine meetings with the Patriot’s messenger—the beautiful Faith Jackson—are a highlight of his days.

As the danger grows and war dawns, can Matthew and Faith reach for a brighter future or will the present challenges present them from examining their admiration and attraction further?

Woodhouse puts readers in the center of a pivotal time in US history, bringing it to life with fascinating characters and tidbits of history woven within this fictional story.

I am thorough enjoying this series with strong women who fight for their freedom and beliefs and men who appreciate and encourage those strengths.

My Thoughts: The Patriot Bride by Kimberley Woodhouse is a light read, but it packs a punch with excitement and historical detail. Details of the time period are written into scenes as pieces of discovered treasure rather than long, drawn out descriptions. These gems of information add to the enjoyment of this fast paced story of patriotism and faith.

Faith Lytton starts out as a spunky ten-year-old with a brotherly friendship with the family neighbor's son, George.  Watching this friendship grow was one of my favorite parts because there was no question of morals and intent.  The author did a fantastic job at allowing the reader to understand the relationships among all the characters and she definitely created the right characters for the right roles.

The Patriot Bride was one of my favorite books in Daughters of the Mayflower series.  I don't read a lot of series because no matter how good an author's writing style may be, I  get bored of reading the same writing style over and over again. This doesn't happen with this series because all the books aren't written by the same author. This prevents what I call "writing-style boredom". Kimberley Woodhouse began with The Mayflower Bride and it was a great start to this fascinating series.  I was thrilled to read the fourth book written by her as well.  I highly recommend this series for those who want a quicker, lighter historical series.

The Patriot Bride (2018) by Kimberly Woodhouse is the fourth novel in the Daughters of the Mayflower series. This book comes in all forms including eBook, and is 256 pages in length. With a full-time job and a very busy six-year old at home, this novel took me four days to read. I received a copy of this book in eBook form from the publisher, Barbour Books. In no way has this influenced my opinion of the story. All opinions expressed in this review are my own. I give The Patriot Bride 4.5 STARS. This novel is Historical Christian Fiction.

I have enjoyed the novels so far in the Daughters of the Mayflower series, so when The Patriot Bride released I knew I had to read it immediately. Boy am I glad I did. This novel is a lot of fun. The Patriot Bride has well written and relatable characters, an engaging plot line, and fascinating historical detail.

I enjoyed several aspects to this novel. The first being the inclusion of George Washington and Benjamin Franklin as actual characters in the story line. Most of the time in historical novels actual historical figures are merely mentioned one or two times over the course of the story. But in The Patriot Bride, George Washington plays a pivotal part in Faith Jackson’s life. Faith, the heroine of The Patriot Bride, grew up following George Washington around wherever he went. When her entire family dies when she is a very young girl, George becomes Faith’s caretaker. My favorite part of George’s character is how protective a brother he becomes to Faith over the years. And, Benjamin Franklin is a mentor to Matthew Weber, the hero of this story. Franklin’s character is quite hilarious in most of his scenes, as he was in real life. If you have not read The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin by Benjamin Franklin I highly recommend that you do. It is one of the funniest books I’ve ever read. In real life, Franklin was a hoot!

Kimberly Woodhouse did a FANTASTIC job of capturing the time period. Most notably in how she portrays communication, or rather the lack of communication, in the 1770s in America. I very much realized reading this book just how spoiled I am today. I can contact anyone in my contacts list via text message, phone call, and/or email, and have almost instant communication back. Even our snail mail is amazing. I can order a book from Amazon and two days later I have it in my hands. This absolutely was not the case in 1770s America. Snail mail was just called mail back then! It took as long as it took. By the time one received “news” the news was two months old already. And, if a war was going on…forget it, you probably weren’t getting anything by mail. This communication issue was just a fact of life for these people. Mrs. Woodhouse did a great job of illustrating this.

My final favorite aspect to this novel is the discussion of man’s time vs. God’s time that is weaved throughout. Matthew very much wants to be with Faith. He’s sure she is the one for him, but the timing is off. A war is brewing and he does not think it the appropriate time to marry and start a family. So he puts things off with Faith. This is so true to humans! We all try to control our steps and our paths. We think there is a perfect, right time to get married. We believe there is a perfect, right time to have babies. We humans think we are controlling time. How funny we are. As Proverbs 16:9 (ESV) states, “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” This is why marriages happen when they happen and babies come when they come. God is the boss. If God puts love in your path, it’s God’s time for you to be in love whether there is a war on or not. In his own unique way, Benjamin Franklin’s character reminds Matthew of this unalterable truth. We humans can plan all day long, but God puts us where He wants us to be!

Overall, The Patriot Bride is a read I highly recommend. The characters are endearing, the setting is so well written I felt like I was in Boston during the 1770s, the messages are timely, and the historical detail is rich. If you are looking for an engaging and thoughtful historical fiction novel to escape into, The Patriot Bride is definitely the book for you.

The Daughters of the Mayflower series continues with “The Patriot Bride” by Kimberley Woodhouse. This unique series is generational, with each installment highlighting a woman descending from Mayflower voyager Mary Elizabeth Chapman, who was the focus of the first book. In “The Patriot Bride” we meet Faith Lytton Jackson, a 32-year-old woman residing in Boston as the colonies head toward war with England. With things intensifying, Faith and a named Matthew Weber become spies for the patriot cause, facing the dangers both of being caught and of their budding relationship.

This story contains many gems that make it stand out in the historical fiction genre. Faith makes a daring heroine, one who challenges the status quo of eighteenth century female conduct with her sharp intelligence, independence, and valor. The faith element is strong, and there are many scripture verses throughout the text, underscoring how much the fight for and eventual victory of the American Revolution depended upon the patriots’ faith in God. Along with the fictional characters are some easily recognizable historical figures, including George Washington and Benjamin Franklin. Including them not only strengthens the setting but also gives readers a glimpse into what they may have been like in their personal lives and interactions. It is all too easy to view the Revolutionary War from the safety of history, knowing the outcome and forgetting how radical it actually was. “The Patriot Bride” drives home the reminder of how steeply the odds were in Britain’s favor and of the awful—and often gruesome—consequences that awaited the patriot leaders if they lost and demonstrates how these early American overcame the odds to form our nation.

This is book four in the Daughters of the Mayflower series. As I had read the others, I wanted to read this one also. I was not disappointed. Woodhouse did her research well and wrote a very interesting book. The Patriot Bride is well written with believable characters, an engaging plot line, and fascinating historical detail.  The setting is in the 1770's in young America. It was interesting to read more about how we received our freedom from Britain and became our own country. Woodhouse brings into this novel some of our nation's patriots and leaders, such as George Washington and Ben Franklin.  They are prominent characters along with the heroine and hero. There is espionage, danger and suspense along with romance and christian faith. Great book..........Thank you Barbour Books and Net Galley for the free copy of The Patriot Bride to read in exchange for my honest review.

The 1700s have come alive in this spirited story rich with iconic figures. How would you like to be able to say that George Washington was one of your closest friends? Faith has that distinction and I must say how very exciting it is. She is a wonderful character full of honor and grace. I loved that she wanted to do something to help her country out in time of war. I know I could say she was brave but I think I will call her a jewel in time of need. She must know of the danger that will surround her as she takes on a very secretive mission.

Matthew has also joined forces with George and his country to outsmart the British. I was a little concerned that Matthew was playing a double spy. Does he realize how dangerous that is?There are a few chuckles in the book when a man sets his eyes on Faith. Poor man, he is in for a heartbreak I think. As Faith and Matthew meet in secret to exchange information, a closeness develops between them.

The story is very intriguing and I loved reading about Benjamin Franklin and Paul Revere . I could hear Paul racing through the town screaming , " The British are coming. The British are coming. " What I really liked was reading the author's notes at the end of the book. It corrected some things I didn't know about. I now know how tall George Washington really was. Also interesting was the real words that Paul Revere said. Thank you for including information that shines a new light on the truth in history.

The author keeps readers involved in the story as she places us right in the action. Her knowledge of the era is very impressive and enhances a very historic event . Will Faith and Matthew be able to keep their feelings from causing them danger as they meet each other in turbulent times? The characters are believable and the story is gripping. The ending is a must read for everyone.

I received a copy of this book from the author and Barbour Publishing. The review is my own opinion.

First, I have to admit that while reading this book I had no idea that the author also wrote the first book in the series. That being said it's no wonder I liked the writing style and the attention to historical detail throughout the book. Yes, the book isn't totally accurate when it comes to the historical parts but the author admits this at the beginning and since I knew this going in it didn't bother me in the least.

Faith is a character I couldn't help but like. From her youth to adulthood I liked her independence and attitude. She was a strong girl/woman and could take care of herself and was a leader. She was a character I cared about and really, really enjoyed. Matthew Weber was the perfect leading man for Faith. He wasn't a wimp or too strong as to be overshadowed or overshadow Faith. They were great as a team and I enjoyed their scenes together. There was a character that was a bit of a jerk and that was Andrew Jameson. Now, I have to admit that while this character was a real piece of work I didn't totally hate him. I actually thought he brought a nice balance to the story and found some of his scenes to be a bit on the humorous side.

Now, in addition to Faith and Matthew, my favorite characters were George Washington and Ben Franklin. I know they weren't as the author wrote them but I enjoyed getting to know these two founding fathers of our country. The author wrote these two in a way that was respectful and made me want to know more about them. I'll be checking out those sources she listed at the end of the book so I can learn more about these two.

This story is fast-paced and easy to read. I highly recommend this book to fans of historical fiction. Although the fourth book in the series this story completely stands on its own. (I do recommend reading the first three books though because they are really good stories themselves.) Grab a drink, get comfy and spend some time with Faith, Matthew, George, and Ben. You won't be disappointed. Happy reading!!

The Patriot Bride was a look at the danger that lurked for all who fought for our country’s freedom from Britain. There were fierce warriors on both sides of the war, and each thought they knew what was best. Family became your enemies, and no one knew who to trust. In the midst of all this, strong alliances were formed, and friends became family. Getting information to those in charge was imperative, and the messages couldn’t be obvious in case they fell into the wrong hands. I was rooting for the Patriots and holding my breath when danger was surrounding them. Woodhouse had me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next. I enjoyed getting to imagine another side of George Washington, and his love for Faith his dearest friend.

Faith was not only wealthy, but quite beautiful as well. Having experienced loss at such a young age, she would love to be in love again. The only problem is that most men just want her for her fortune. When she meets Matthew she feels sparks that are unlike anything she’s felt before. Being in the middle of a war is no time to fall in love, especially when he’s a spy. Can their feelings be true? And will they ever be able to see if they can grow into something more?

I really enjoyed this book. It was different reading about George Washington and Benjamin Franklin in this way. I know it’s fiction but it helped you to see them in a more personal way. I loved Faith! She reminded me of who I’d want to be! Strong, quick thinker and willing to take risks if needed.

The Patriot Bride by Kimberly Woodhouse is the fourth book in the Daughters of the Mayflower series, but it can be read as a stand alone novel. Faiith Jackson decides to work undercover as a courier for the Patriot cause on the eve of the American Revolution. Her contact is Matthew Weber, who is posing as Loyalist, to gain information. Upon meeting for the first time, it was immediate love at first sight, but they put the pursuit of one another on hold to carry out their mission. Woodhouse intersects historical figures of George Washington and Benjamin Franklin into the story. Will Faith and Matthew be discovered? Will their love survive in the midst of danger? This book is engrossing from page one, and has been my favorite so far in the Daughters of Mayflower series.

Part of the Daughters of Mayflower series, The Patriot Bride, is one of my favorites so far. Ms. Woodhouse does a great job incorporating history. In fact, the balance of romance and revolutionary life draws you in so that you feel as if you are part of the action. More than that, you find yourself sympathizing with General Washington and Ben Franklin because of the glimpse of the life they must have led and the sacrifices they had to make which lead you to appreciate them more. I don't think I had ever truly understood. I had learned the facts of history but it is so impersonal.

It is pure enjoyment to read this book and see what our founding fathers and early american ancestors had to do to ensure the freedom we enjoy. Faith Jackson, a widow, agrees to be a messenger, a dangerous job, and in the process she meets Matthew Weber, a patriot, undercover as a loyalist attempting to gather information and transfer it to Faith to get to the leaders of the cause.

As war begins to break out around them, they found their feelings for each other escalating and the danger to them both also increasing exponentially. To complicate matters, Faith has an unwanted suitor who is insistent and persistent.

Will their love survive the coming conflagration or will the sacrifices be too great. This book has my 5 star recommendation and can stand alone in the series. Thanks to Barbour Publishing for allowing me to read The Patriot Bride through Netgalley.

Great read with vivid scenes from this early period in history. I totally fell in love with Faith and her courage in the midst of tragedy and danger. There was plenty of action and several sub plots to keep me reading and at the same time, enough romance and a bit of humor to keep me entertained. I love books from this period and The Patriot Bride ranks with my favorites.

I really enjoyed reading this fourth book in the Daughters of the Mayflower series. I have previously read "The Pirate Bride" and looked forward to reading this novel by Kimberley Woodhouse. The historical content of this novel was great and the author took quite a bit of time researching the facts to include. Faith, a spunky widow and charge of George Washington, volunteered for the cause to deliver coded messages to another messenger, Matthew Webber. The romantic part of this book was sweet. It was great getting to know the characters, and I loved the inclusion of their faith. Matthew and Faith are risking their lives delivering coded messages for the Patriots to help them win the war. It was also great to read about events in Fredericksburg, Virginia, which is about ten miles from where we live. You follow their story of risk and eventual love. Great read and cannot wait to read the next book in the series. Thank you to Ms. Woodhouse, Barbour Books, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I am reviewing a copy of The Patriot Bride through Barbour Books and Netgalley:
In this book we meet Faith Jackson, a wealthy widow as well as a friend of George Washington. She is also a great supporter of the Patriot cause.

We also meet Matthew Weber a man whose friends with both Ben Franklin as well as his son William. Ben and William differ in their Political views, which allows Matthew to privy on both sides.

When a message needs to be sent to a Loyalist it is Faith who bravely steps up, and in doing so she meets Matthew Weber, which allows her to believe she could love again. Someone else has his eyes on Faith the Faith she shows those in elite social circles.

What will Matthew and Faith end up sacrificing for the sake of their fledgling country?

I enjoyed reading The Patriot Bride. I really like strong female characters as Faith is. She started head strong and loved challenges. Her friendship with her older neighbor George was one that was valued by both parties. Tragedy hits Faiths life and she loses her parents. George steps in as her guardian and does his best to guide her and give her a good life. She marries a man George has hand picked for her and loses him not long after they marry. Faith has a group of ladies she is working with to help with coding for the patriots. She volunteers to assist with Matthew a spy within the Loyalist. Matthew is friend a friend to Benjamin Franklin who helps him with his plans. They are very attracted to each other and fall in love. She has a gentleman who is after her for her money . Mr Jameson tries to ruin her future with Matthew by turning him and her in to the Colonists. With the help from her house staff she is able to escape. Her loyal butler Clayton assist her in finding Matthew. I have enjoyed all the books in this series so far. I was given this book as an Advanced read for my honest review.

This is the fourth book in the Daughters of the Mayflower series and I've read them all.
You've got to admire a plucky female that plays war games with the boys as a child, unafraid even though she was smaller than them all. War games require quite the strategy and you can be sure she has it. Widowed after a very short time of marriage but because of her marriage she is set financially. She calls men in high standing friend and among them she counts, George Washington. As a staunch supporter of the Patriot cause living in Boston, she holds meetings with like minded women but her her world turns upside down when the British invade.
Matthew Weber is also working to aid the Patriot cause. As the city is in turmoil will their cause survive the uncertainty of danger lurking around every corner? I think the walls have ears as private conversations seem to be heard by not just the intended party. A mad man stalks Faith, is he interested in her for herself or is it something else entirely? Will Faith and Matthew have to sacrifice their new relationship for their loyalty to their country or will the danger subside with a little help from friends. Wow, this is definitely my favorite book in the series so far. Can't wait to read the rest!

The Patriot Bride by Kimberley Woodhouse

Spies, double-agents, traitors, intrigue, and marriage proposals

Who would have thought a feisty widow would be entrenched in such dealings!

Anthony Jameson didn’t really care which side was right or which cause was just. And he wasn’t confident about who was going to win the war. So instead of taking the risk of making the wrong choice, he decided to play both sides and come out on top either way. It wasn’t the wisest decision he ever made. Anthony made for a perfect villain and did his best to cause problems for the lovely widow, Faith.

Faith had been orphaned as a young girl and her dear friend, George, was appointed her guardian. Tragedy struck her life again when she was just a young lady and her husband of just one week was killed in battle. Despite these things, she had a close relationship with the Lord and was strong and dedicated to serving her country. She was confident and clever which served her well when faced with a persistent and unwanted suitor and enemy soldiers taking over her city.

The majority of the story revolved around Faith, which was in my opinion, wonderful! Seeing the way she and her neighbors served the Patriots, not only in making yarn and cloth but also in coding messages that could be delivered as needed. Who knew! I loved the parts of the story that were told from her point of view and the perspective they gave to how women might have felt during significant events leading to the war, especially the night of Paul Revere’s famous ride. (As a side note, I was fascinated at learning that the events of that night didn’t take place the way I had always imagined – with men on horseback loudly yelling through the streets “The British are coming!”)

Authors of novels that include “real” people have quite a challenge – that of staying true to known facts so as to not be taken to task for not knowing what they are talking about. Author Kimberley Woodhouse bravely included not just one prominent historical figure but two in The Patriot Bride. I really enjoyed the portrayals of George Washington and Benjamin Franklin in this book and seeing them in such a personal light – as mentors, guardians, and friends. It was almost strange seeing them referred to so familiarly, as George and Ben – how often do you hear them referred to in this manner?

This series follows a family who had come over on the Mayflower. Each book is designed to stand alone, though reference may be made to the original family. If you read just one or read them out of order you will not feel lost or that you have missed anything. I have loved each of them, though, so I can recommend that you read them all.

The daughters of Mayflower series is not for the faint-hearted! It is full of adventure and history, and, the casualties of both. The Patriot Bride by Kimberley Woodhouse opens with Faith losing her parents, and whilst loved and cared for, her life doesn’t get easier. The looming war draws her into the role of messenger between a spy and the Loyalists, a dangerous and precarious position. Getting to know Faith and Matthew is interesting as is the historical context. To keep fighting for what they believe in, they both go above and beyond as do their friends. I found this one a slightly slower pace than the others in the series but beautifully written. A five out of five and, I eagerly await the next one!

I was surprised that such well-known real-life historical figures George Washington and Benjamin Franklin were incorporated into this story, but I loved seeing them with relationships and conversations that made them seem more human rather than iconic. Faith is an intrepid character, full of bravery, strength, and conviction. I enjoyed the prologue with Faith as a ten-year-old playing war games with the neighborhood boys. It showcased her tenacity and clever intellect, and was an attention-catching beginning to a story that had a somewhat slow but steady pace. The spy activities brought a strong element of suspense and tension to the plot, and I was fascinated by the methods and strategies employed by the Patriots as they prepared for revolution. The romance between Faith and Matthew is sweet and gentle in the midst of the turmoil, and I loved their relationship. A story that will definitely be enjoyed by fans of historical fiction!

Connected through George Washington, Faith Jackson and Matthew Weber work for the Patriot cause in the Colonies. Faith was a ward of George’s from about age 10 while Matthew has been his lifelong friend. A young widow, Faith is well-heeled yet alone. Matthew is a staunch supporter of liberty, but must pose as a Loyalists to spy for the Colonies. Ben Franklin also enters the story, with a daring rescue.
I thought the first half of the book moved slowly and then it really picked up steam. Overall I enjoyed the trials of Faith and Matthew, along with the cameo appearances of George and Ben.
This is book 4 in a series. Each book seems to be stand-alone in topic and time period, though.

I have followed Kimberley Woodhouse since, what I believe is, her first book, which was auto-biographical about her family. Who knew she could write such spectacular fiction as well! I love history (especially American) and what more enjoyable way to refresh your memories of the old college classes than to read about it in a well-written stories that brings famous historical characters to life.

Faith Lytton Jackson (having been widowed in a week's time) had been very closely aligned to George Washington since childhood, while Matthew Weber had been mentored by Benjamin Franklin. While Matthew is a spy for "the good side", Faith has been asked to be his courier.

Even though you know how the war ends, you find yourself on the edge of the seat, waiting for the battles which will decide our country's fate.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Patriot Bride, the fourth book in Daughters of the Mayflower series. Kimberley Woodhouse is an awesome story teller, and I love how she combined fictional characters with real people. It is a love story that took place during the Revolutionary War. I learned more about the Revolution than I ever learned from taking American History in school. It again reminds us that Christianity played a huge part in our history and should never be taken away from it. There is horror as in any war, but also compassion, and the love for our great country. At end of the book there is a copy of The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America, and also a list of web sites to visit. If you love Historical Romance books, this is one you should not miss.

I am enjoying this series and journey through history as each book progresses and written by a different author.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and Faith and Matthew’s story. I also like George Washington and Ben Franklin being a part of the story. You don’t often see this historical figure as part of a fiction book.

If this time period interests you and like a good romance I recommend this one.

This is the second book I have read from Kimberley Woodhouse and I am completely hooked. I love her writing style . She keeps my attention throughout the books and makes me fall completely in love with the characters. I also am really enjoying the Daughters of the Mayflower Bride series. Each book is unique and can be read as stand alone. The Patriot Bride is 4th in this series.
Faith Jackson worked to aid the Patriot cause. She took quite the risk. I loved this character with her feisty spirit. There were a couple times I just couldn’t stop laughing as I read some of the situations she got herself into.
Matthew Weber also risked his life for the Patriot cause. He worked as a spy which meant that he was taking a chance of getting killed by either side. If captured by the Patriot’s, he could not reveal his role as a spy. And if the loyalists caught him, they would not hesitate to have him hung and quartered. It brought a new understanding to me of all the Patriot’s risked in order to gain our independence. The stakes were so much higher than I realized.
I loved how Kimberley Woodhouse brought to life facts about the war that I had not known before. I was entertained while also learning more about history. The Patriot Bride was a fun book to read and has me seeking more books by Kimberley Woodhouse. I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

THE PATRIOT BRIDE by KIMBERLEY WOODHOUSE is a historical novel which takes place in the three years leading up to the American Declaration of Independence.
Faith Jackson is an independent, capable, widow, who has long since given up the idea of remarrying, as she feels any suitors are only after her wealth. This is certainly the case with the pompous and irritating Anthony Jameson who will not take no for an answer! Many is the time that her faithful butler, Clayton, has to help her get rid of him.
Faith has a really good circle of lady friends who meet often and who read the Word of God together. They are all Patriots and are working for the cause. Faith volunteers to pass on notes to another spy, Matthew Weber, who is actually posing as a Loyalist. The reason she volunteers is that she has neither husband nor children to put in danger's way. What they are doing is extremely dangerous.
The story is very exciting, filled with historical characters and events, and it is obvious that the author loves history and has done a great deal of research. There is also a good dose of romance. I particularly like the way Faith bases her life on biblical truth, in spite of all the hardships she has experienced.
It is a good and interesting read with a strong Christian message.

I really enjoy historical fiction, but sometimes it can be a hit or miss for me. I've been following and reading this series from the first book, the author for this book also wrote Book #1, and have enjoyed them. I will admit that the first book had me a little overwhelmed with a lot of the historical aspects of it. Not that I didn't enjoy the storyline and learning more but I had a hard time connecting with the characters throughout the story. Knowing this was the same author, I wasn't sure what I was going to think about this one. I will admit that I enjoyed this one more than the first book. I'll also admit that I did skim through different parts of the book. My time was limited for reading and so to be able to enjoy all of the book, I skimmed parts that were a little bit slower in the storyline.

From the very beginning I enjoyed Faith's character. She was for sure a little spitfire and that personality trait carried on throughout her life giving her great strength and fortitude to accomplish the different challenges life presented her. I really enjoyed her character and personality throughout the book. She was a great example to many of the secondary characters. Definitely a character I would have fun sitting down and chatting with, or even sneaking out and carrying notes around to help the Patriots. I loved her relationship with George Washington and how that was shown throughout the book, the friendship and letters were fun to read.

Matthew was another character that I enjoyed. I couldn't imagine doing what he did. I know this is a fictional story with fictional characters but it is based on history and the people who were spies and risked their lives for freedom, and for their family and country's freedom, I am so grateful for them and admire their bravery, strength and courage. The author did a great job portraying those people in the character of Matthew. I liked seeing his internal struggle knowing the sacrifices he was making.

There is a crazy character in this book. Oh, how I loathed him. Yet, I felt that the author did a good job showing this character's belief that he was right in his mind. Of course as readers we saw the opposite. There were times that I kept thinking of Mr. Collins from Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. How he says to Elizabeth Bennett that her 'no' actually was just her being coy and shy and that she really meant, 'yes'. Anyone else think that while reading this book. Now, Mr. Collins is a lot calmer and less creepy than the character in this book but that little aspect is what made me think of him.

Overall I enjoyed this read and the historical aspects of it. The cameos of George Washington and Benjamin Franklin were fun. Benjamin Franklin especially when he was in disguise. Plus I liked the reference that author made to Silence Dogood. Too funny. It definitely made me want to go do some more studying of these two men!

Content: Clean. Some mild moments of peril. A stalker type character. A few kisses but nothing further. This is a Christian fiction novel, for those who don't like reading a lot of scripture passages and discussion of God in their books, this one had quite a bit within the pages. The author has Faith's character quoting several of the Psalms and discussing it with ladies in her group. I think if you're interested in this book but not that aspect of it, you could easily pass over those sections and not lose the storyline. There was a little more than I usually enjoy in my books but I enjoyed the novel.

I received a copy from the publisher, Barbour Publishing, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

Super interesting plot line kept me interested and reading late into the night. A little suspense, war, love, friendship, political drama makes for a good story. The story is well written with well developed characters. Pace of reading is good. Not too slow! Definitely keeps your interest. I’m really enjoying this series. Don’t miss it!

This is the 4th book in the "Brides" series. I've read several of the other titles and enjoyed them all. It is unusual to have a series of books where each one is written by a different author, all tied together with the same historical themes. I find it much easier to read stories set in the United States.
Set in the early 1770's, the main characters in this book are working within a group to secure freedom for the United States. What would you have done when called upon to help your country? The author has set the story in a realistic manner with believable characters. This makes the book a very enjoyable read.

A spunky, feisty main female character, a dashing young spy, and two great historical figures, Benjamin Franklin and George Washington, makes for another great installment in this great historical series.

Faith was my favourite female character of the series so far. I enjoyed her personality and could see her annoyance with the irritating mr Jameson. There was quite a few scenes that had me smiling/laughing as well.

The story line of the Revolutionary war was very interesting and the secret meetings between Faith and Matthew added to a bit of a suspenseful thread as you as reader wondered what would happen and if they will get caught. The evil Mr Jameson was a different flavour to a bad guy. Sometimes I just had to laugh at his thinking. I was quite happy at the way George dealt with this problem.

What I really like about this author (this is the second book I have read by her) is the way she makes faith (relationship with God) and integral part of her main characters' lives and includes scripture in a way that flows with the story but does not come across as preachy.

Definitely a book and series to recommend to fans of Christian historical fiction.

This was a wonderful story!
It's my first book from Kimberley Woodhouse and I want to read more of her books!
I love historical stories and this one was very well done. I liked that it involved real historical characters like George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, William Franklin, etc. I have no idea about the accuracy of the historical part, but it sounded adequate and well researched.
I loved how the book started as young Faith becomes orphaned after a fire at her house, and her friendship (even if he was 10 yrs older) con George Washington and how she becomes his ward even when he's only 20 yrs old. The story continues many years later as Faith Jackson is a wealthy widow and supports the patriot cause. She promotes helping the cause within her circle of friends. But when a dangerous task of taking messages to a spy on the loyalist trench surges, she know she's the one to take on the responsability, even if her life might be at risk... Meeting Matthew Webber, also a spy for the cause, complicates things, especially when feelings start growing and her hearts opens up to the hope of loving again. But is it possible or worth it to love in times of war? Will they make it out of every lurking danger unscathed?
The story keps your attention from the first page. The adventure, the drama and the suspense will keep you captivated. The romance is clean and sweet. And the characters feel real and relatable, full of rich qualities, but flawed at the same time. They were both corageous, strong, selfless and compassionate. And I liked how they trusted God and their faith along the way to guide them through such difficult circumstances. It was uplifting and inspiring!
I totally recommend this book to historical romance lovers. A must read! I really enjoyed it!
I received a copy of this book from Barbour Publishing via NetGalley but wasn't required to review. This is my honest and unbiased review.

The Patriot Bride by Kimberley Woodhouse is a marvellous Christian historical novel. It is the fourth book in The Daughters Of The Mayflower series but can be read as a stand-alone.
This novel surrounds the battle for independence. It opens in 1752 but quickly jumps to 1774 as we follow the action, Loyalists and Patriots are everywhere. People choose whether to support the king or are they for independence? There are spies in the midst, infiltrating life everywhere. There is the theme of trust as no one knows who the betrayers are, with spies and double dealings.
The women are shown to be strong and brave. "You were the one who taught me to follow my instincts and not let anyone think less of me because I was a woman." The women do what they can to support the cause. Unwanted attention towards a young widow from a hopeful suitor creates much amusement for the reader as the women conspire to thwart his attentions.
The fight for freedom from the crown is only half the story. To gain real freedom, we need to know Jesus and follow His rules for our lives. "The only way they'd gain freedom was if they followed Him." We need to fix our eyes on Jesus and trust Him.
The Patriot Bride is based on fact. Kimberley Woodhouse has woven a fabulous story. She has put legs on historical details and characters. George Washington is no longer just a character in a painting but has been created as a fully rounded and likable character.
The Patriot Bride will educate you as you read. It is an exciting page turner that will have you glued from the start.

Having only read one of the other books in this series, I appreciate that the books can definitely stand alone without needing additional backstory.

This book follows the adventures of Faith, a widow and friend of George Washington, during a time of great turmoil and political turmoil in the Colonies, just prior to the birth of a new nation. Faith is an independent woman leading Bible studies and a group of ladies as they assist the Patriot leaders in passing along secrets. As Faith meets with her contact, her emotions are kindled and she contemplates a new relationship.

Overall, I would give the book a 4 star - truthfully some of the “yearning” got a bit old after awhile. There’s a fine line when writing romance on overdoing the verbiage and making it almost overly sweet. Was he looking at the same stars? Her heart ached...tingles down her spine...etc. There were a few plot points that were a little harder to believe toward the end, but otherwise it was an enjoyable read.

Thanks to NetGalley and Barbour for allowing me an advanced copy of the book.

This is book #4 in the Daughters of the Mayflower series which are written by a variety of talented authors. I’ve enjoyed them all. Each of these stories can be read as a standalone. This story takes place 1774 near Boston and Philadelphia areas as the nation is on the brink of war.

I enjoyed the authors enthusiasm about history and the discoveries she shares with readers in the back of the book. I was quite fascinated to learn what she uncovered and how she debunked some myths about George Washington and Paul Revere.

Faith Jackson is a smart, feisty, independent, opinionated woman who has had her share of unfortunate events. But with friends like George Washington in her corner since childhood she felt hopeful and safe. She was a brave girl with tomboyish outspoken ways. So, when the Patriots asked for her help in the cause she signed up and a group of ladies she trusted signed up with her. It was intriguing to learn what all these women did to help the cause. Faith then takes it one step further and signs up to becomes a spy. She was the logical choice since she had no husband and no children. she says to her group, …” Ladies, it is imperative that we keep everything we speak of here only amongst ourselves.…I have a suggestion. I think we should start memorizing more scripture. To help us through the tough times ahead and to keep our minds trained…We must be vigilant in how we plan and what we say. Everything must have a purpose and a reason in case we are questioned.”

Faith’s contact turns out to be Matthew Weber. It’s the first time they’ve met but they’ve heard about one another through their connection with George Washington. Sparks fly in a good way as they both embark on this dangerous mission.

I enjoyed the cast of minor characters and loved what her butler Clayton said to this man, “Mr. Jameson, while I am sure we are all impressed with your fervor, Mrs. Faith Jackson offered you no invitation to this home. Now if you will kindly remove yourself before I have to do it for you.”

Faith states plainly, “…let me assure you one last time. I am not playing games. Nor do I wish to speak to you ever again. Good day.”

She tries to act lady like. But things do escalate with this man Tension was in the air on both sides as they rally in preparation for war and Anthony Jameson sets out on a full out campaign to make Faith his wife one way or another. This puts everyone in danger.

I loved learning about history this way and have enjoyed all the novels in this series. Book number 6 is scheduled to release in December. It’s titled The Liberty Bride by Marylu Tyndall. I’ve marked my calendar to make sure I don’t miss the next installment.

I am creating an award titled "Best Butler of the Century" and it is going to the esteemed Clayton of The Patriot Bride. That man deserves his own book. Clayton is a friend, protector, patriot, and butler all rolled into one. While he is not necessarily a main character, he is vital to the story, and I love the mystery that surrounds him throughout the entire book. All the characters reached a special place in my heart, but for some reason, Clayton dug even deeper.
The Patriot Bride takes place during one of the most influential times in our history, and I was swept away by the intensity of research that went into this novel. Reading about George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and so many others made me want to crack open a history book and learn more about these pivotal men in our history. I love when a fictional story has just enough truth in it to make it become real. The story of Matthew and Faith is something that very well could have happened. Their faith was inspiring from the beginning, and they only continued to grow in spiritual strength. Matthew and Faith put their very lives on the line for their beliefs, both of them knowing that capture could possibly mean death. Death was a punishment they were willing to face if it meant they could help their country win the war. Knowing they would be safe in their Father's arms gave the characters of The Patriot Bride the strength to do what they must.
Since we read from the perspective of several characters, the book comes alive from every aspect. The fact that communication took so long to reach its destination brings the gravity of the critical situation into an entirely new perspective. Only God could have coordinated such a masterful scenario of perfect conclusion. My only regret was that we do not learn the final fate of the pompous Mr. Jameson. What we are given is enough, but I would not have minded had he suffered a bit more. I had to cheer for Faith when she refused to back down. There are no weak women in The Patriot Bride, every one you meet will show a strength of character that was much needed then and a role model for what is needed now.

This is a remarkable historical romance!

I love both of the main characters. Faith is an incredibly strong woman. She has learned how to survive without a man in charge of her household because of her strength. She knows how to lead and she expects those around her to follow her instructions. She helps immensely in the difficult situations that she faces during the beginning of the war.

Matthew is everything you can ask for in a hero in a book. He is strong, handsome, and very dedicated to his beliefs and doing all that he can to support the cause. Throw in there the fact that he is always willing to protect Faith is just perfect.

The storyline is captivating. I was drawn into it and anxious to find out how things turn out for Faith and Matthew. It was a nice fictional story built into the history of the Revolutionary War. Seeing George Washington and Benjamin Franklin brought into the story and interacting with Faith and Matthew was wonderful.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading the author’s note at the end of the book to see what she had to say about the use of actual historical characters in her book. It was great to read her thoughts and see a glimpse into how she views history.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. I have chosen to write this review to express my personal opinion.

The Patriot Bride, written by Kimberley Woodhouse, is by far my favorite so far of this series.
Loved how Woodhouse brought George Washington and Ben Franklin to life! I've not read another fiction book which took these historical figures to this level to flesh them out in such a way I just couldn't stop reading!
Faith was a strong woman who I admired. Stood up for what and who she believed in and no one ever wondered where they stood with her. Great character!
I would recommend this read along with the others in this series, but this is my favorite.
I was given a copy of this book by the publisher. All thoughts and comments are my own.

For some reason, this one didn't feel authentic to me. Maybe it was the more modern language, I don't know. And I also didn't feel the chemistry between the main characters.
If you can set those two things aside, it's a great study of history and it did a good job of bringing historical leaders to life.
As always, my opinions are my own.

The Patriot Bride by Kimberley Woodhouse is book 4 in the Daughters of the Mayflower Series. This book is set in Philadelphia of 1774. The two main characters are acquaintances of famous people like George Washington and Benjamin Franklin. That part was really interesting and I think it definitely added to the story. This is a love story of two people trapped in the revolution and trying their best to help their fledgling country emerge. I just loved this book and I think you will too. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

The 4th book in the Mayflower series.A historical christian romance novel. Faith is a strong female character who has suffered lost but has managed to remain strong and take an active part in the Patriot cause and will do what is needed to help. Matthew Weber is working as a spy to help the Patriot cause. When his path crosses Faith he they are drawn to each other. Unfortunately Faith has a unwanted admirer who won't take no for an answer. A dangerous time to fall in love but would they sacrifice their relationship or find a way to make it work. Will they make it our alive and have a future together. They will have to faith and believe that it will all work out as god intended.

This is my favorite book in the series so far. Faith is a great female character that is strong and smart and can do it all. Refreshing at a time when this was not the norm. Full of adventure and romance. I recommend this story to those who are looking for some romance mixed with passages from the bible.

I enjoyed this story! It was fun to "meet" George Washington through the eyes of someone who grew up with him and yet not have him be the focal point of the story. I also enjoyed "meeting" Benjamin Franklin in much the same way. Faith and Matthew were compelling characters that I really enjoyed getting to know. I always enjoy a good spy story, and I admired their bravery. I appreciated Faith's spunk and fervor for life. I thought the author did an especially good job in this book with secondary characters. Faith's friends and servants became as important and loved to me as the main characters, and that is rare to find in a lighthearted historical romance like this one. This is a fun series, and I am looking forward to the next one!
