Great read with vivid scenes from this early period in history. I totally fell in love with Faith and her courage in the midst of tragedy and danger. There was plenty of action and several sub plots to keep me reading and at the same time, enough romance and a bit of humor to keep me entertained. I love books from this period and The Patriot Bride ranks with my favorites.

Another lovely entry into this series. Faith and Matthew were both great, well-developed characters. I loved the cameos of the real historical figures throughout this book. The setting was well described as well, the author clearly did her research well. The romance was well written and not the central focus, which I enjoyed. I can't wait for book 5 in the series!

First, I have to admit that while reading this book I had no idea that the author also wrote the first book in the series. That being said it's no wonder I liked the writing style and the attention to historical detail throughout the book. Yes, the book isn't totally accurate when it comes to the historical parts but the author admits this at the beginning and since I knew this going in it didn't bother me in the least.
Faith is a character I couldn't help but like. From her youth to adulthood I liked her independence and attitude. She was a strong girl/woman and could take care of herself and was a leader. She was a character I cared about and really, really enjoyed. Matthew Weber was the perfect leading man for Faith. He wasn't a wimp or too strong as to be overshadowed or overshadow Faith. They were great as a team and I enjoyed their scenes together. There was a character that was a bit of a jerk and that was Andrew Jameson. Now, I have to admit that while this character was a real piece of work I didn't totally hate him. I actually thought he brought a nice balance to the story and found some of his scenes to be a bit on the humorous side.
Now, in addition to Faith and Matthew, my favorite characters were George Washington and Ben Franklin. I know they weren't as the author wrote them but I enjoyed getting to know these two founding fathers of our country. The author wrote these two in a way that was respectful and made me want to know more about them. I'll be checking out those sources she listed at the end of the book so I can learn more about these two.
This story is fast-paced and easy to read. I highly recommend this book to fans of historical fiction. Although the fourth book in the series this story completely stands on its own. (I do recommend reading the first three books though because they are really good stories themselves.) Grab a drink, get comfy and spend some time with Faith, Matthew, George, and Ben. You won't be disappointed. Happy reading!!

The Patriot Bride was a look at the danger that lurked for all who fought for our country’s freedom from Britain. There were fierce warriors on both sides of the war, and each thought they knew what was best. Family became your enemies, and no one knew who to trust. In the midst of all this, strong alliances were formed, and friends became family. Getting information to those in charge was imperative, and the messages couldn’t be obvious in case they fell into the wrong hands. I was rooting for the Patriots and holding my breath when danger was surrounding them. Woodhouse had me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next. I enjoyed getting to imagine another side of George Washington, and his love for Faith his dearest friend.
Faith was not only wealthy, but quite beautiful as well. Having experienced loss at such a young age, she would love to be in love again. The only problem is that most men just want her for her fortune. When she meets Matthew she feels sparks that are unlike anything she’s felt before. Being in the middle of a war is no time to fall in love, especially when he’s a spy. Can their feelings be true? And will they ever be able to see if they can grow into something more?

The Patriot Bride is historical fiction at its best.I loved this book.It keeps you reading tell the last page.Exciting, detailed, well written!

I really enjoyed this book. It was different reading about George Washington and Benjamin Franklin in this way. I know it’s fiction but it helped you to see them in a more personal way. I loved Faith! She reminded me of who I’d want to be! Strong, quick thinker and willing to take risks if needed.

Traveling in time through the Daughters of the Mayflower Series is a historical fiction fans delight.
In the Patriot Bride, readers journey to events leading up to and during the American Revolutionary War. Although the main characters Matthew and Faith are fictitious, there are several factual characters such as Benjamin Franklin and George Washington. I loved Faith's spirit and commitment. While I'm not typically a huge fan of a villain, I was in The Patriot Bride. It's not that I liked him or sympathized with him, but rather he was so well described and portrayed for his part in the story.
I am loving this series and look forward to where the journey will take me next.

The Patriot Bride by Kimberly Woodhouse is the fourth book in the Daughters of the Mayflower series, but it can be read as a stand alone novel. Faiith Jackson decides to work undercover as a courier for the Patriot cause on the eve of the American Revolution. Her contact is Matthew Weber, who is posing as Loyalist, to gain information. Upon meeting for the first time, it was immediate love at first sight, but they put the pursuit of one another on hold to carry out their mission. Woodhouse intersects historical figures of George Washington and Benjamin Franklin into the story. Will Faith and Matthew be discovered? Will their love survive in the midst of danger? This book is engrossing from page one, and has been my favorite so far in the Daughters of Mayflower series.

Part of the Daughters of Mayflower series, The Patriot Bride, is one of my favorites so far. Ms. Woodhouse does a great job incorporating history. In fact, the balance of romance and revolutionary life draws you in so that you feel as if you are part of the action. More than that, you find yourself sympathizing with General Washington and Ben Franklin because of the glimpse of the life they must have led and the sacrifices they had to make which lead you to appreciate them more. I don't think I had ever truly understood. I had learned the facts of history but it is so impersonal.
It is pure enjoyment to read this book and see what our founding fathers and early american ancestors had to do to ensure the freedom we enjoy. Faith Jackson, a widow, agrees to be a messenger, a dangerous job, and in the process she meets Matthew Weber, a patriot, undercover as a loyalist attempting to gather information and transfer it to Faith to get to the leaders of the cause.
As war begins to break out around them, they found their feelings for each other escalating and the danger to them both also increasing exponentially. To complicate matters, Faith has an unwanted suitor who is insistent and persistent.
Will their love survive the coming conflagration or will the sacrifices be too great. This book has my 5 star recommendation and can stand alone in the series. Thanks to Barbour Publishing for allowing me to read The Patriot Bride through Netgalley.

The 1700s have come alive in this spirited story rich with iconic figures. How would you like to be able to say that George Washington was one of your closest friends? Faith has that distinction and I must say how very exciting it is. She is a wonderful character full of honor and grace. I loved that she wanted to do something to help her country out in time of war. I know I could say she was brave but I think I will call her a jewel in time of need. She must know of the danger that will surround her as she takes on a very secretive mission.
Matthew has also joined forces with George and his country to outsmart the British. I was a little concerned that Matthew was playing a double spy. Does he realize how dangerous that is?There are a few chuckles in the book when a man sets his eyes on Faith. Poor man, he is in for a heartbreak I think. As Faith and Matthew meet in secret to exchange information, a closeness develops between them.
The story is very intriguing and I loved reading about Benjamin Franklin and Paul Revere . I could hear Paul racing through the town screaming , " The British are coming. The British are coming. " What I really liked was reading the author's notes at the end of the book. It corrected some things I didn't know about. I now know how tall George Washington really was. Also interesting was the real words that Paul Revere said. Thank you for including information that shines a new light on the truth in history.
The author keeps readers involved in the story as she places us right in the action. Her knowledge of the era is very impressive and enhances a very historic event . Will Faith and Matthew be able to keep their feelings from causing them danger as they meet each other in turbulent times? The characters are believable and the story is gripping. The ending is a must read for everyone.
I received a copy of this book from the author and Barbour Publishing. The review is my own opinion.

This is book four in the Daughters of the Mayflower series. As I had read the others, I wanted to read this one also. I was not disappointed. Woodhouse did her research well and wrote a very interesting book. The Patriot Bride is well written with believable characters, an engaging plot line, and fascinating historical detail. The setting is in the 1770's in young America. It was interesting to read more about how we received our freedom from Britain and became our own country. Woodhouse brings into this novel some of our nation's patriots and leaders, such as George Washington and Ben Franklin. They are prominent characters along with the heroine and hero. There is espionage, danger and suspense along with romance and christian faith. Great book..........Thank you Barbour Books and Net Galley for the free copy of The Patriot Bride to read in exchange for my honest review.

The Daughters of the Mayflower series continues with “The Patriot Bride” by Kimberley Woodhouse. This unique series is generational, with each installment highlighting a woman descending from Mayflower voyager Mary Elizabeth Chapman, who was the focus of the first book. In “The Patriot Bride” we meet Faith Lytton Jackson, a 32-year-old woman residing in Boston as the colonies head toward war with England. With things intensifying, Faith and a named Matthew Weber become spies for the patriot cause, facing the dangers both of being caught and of their budding relationship.
This story contains many gems that make it stand out in the historical fiction genre. Faith makes a daring heroine, one who challenges the status quo of eighteenth century female conduct with her sharp intelligence, independence, and valor. The faith element is strong, and there are many scripture verses throughout the text, underscoring how much the fight for and eventual victory of the American Revolution depended upon the patriots’ faith in God. Along with the fictional characters are some easily recognizable historical figures, including George Washington and Benjamin Franklin. Including them not only strengthens the setting but also gives readers a glimpse into what they may have been like in their personal lives and interactions. It is all too easy to view the Revolutionary War from the safety of history, knowing the outcome and forgetting how radical it actually was. “The Patriot Bride” drives home the reminder of how steeply the odds were in Britain’s favor and of the awful—and often gruesome—consequences that awaited the patriot leaders if they lost and demonstrates how these early American overcame the odds to form our nation.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.

With some mention of George Washington, Ben Franklin and Paul Revere, the history mixed with fiction made this such an interesting read. Women are portrayed here as an important part of the war. I really enjoyed the ending when a scoundrel working both sides got himself just what he deserved, although not what he was expecting! Not a fast paced story but interesting enough to keep me reading. I was gifted a copy through NetGalley and Barbour Publishing. No review was required. My review is voluntary.

“All the months of meeting in secret. Passing messages back and forth. They’d shared their hearts in little moments of quiet.”
The Onset of the Revolutionary War, two spies, a man who will not take no for an answer, and supporting roles from George Washington and Benjamin Franklin are just a few of the highlight in The Patriot Bride, the latest release in the Daughters of the Mayflower series.
Kimberley Woodhouse returns with her second book in the series, and I liked revisiting a little of the story from where it all started plus the ties to Plymouth. But even more so, the intrigue, suspense, history, and romance of Faith and Matthew’s story may just be my favorite yet.
Faith Jackson is intelligent, courageous, and headstrong who has surrounded herself with faithful friends and staff (Clayton and Marie were a great addition). She’s also experienced an abundance of loss in her life.
Matthew Weber is in a dangerous situation, embedded deep in enemy territory. But his clandestine meetings with the Patriot’s messenger—the beautiful Faith Jackson—are a highlight of his days.
As the danger grows and war dawns, can Matthew and Faith reach for a brighter future or will the present challenges present them from examining their admiration and attraction further?
Woodhouse puts readers in the center of a pivotal time in US history, bringing it to life with fascinating characters and tidbits of history woven within this fictional story.
I am thorough enjoying this series with strong women who fight for their freedom and beliefs and men who appreciate and encourage those strengths.

My Detailed Rating: 4.75 Star Rating: 5/5
My Thoughts: The Patriot Bride by Kimberley Woodhouse is a light read, but it packs a punch with excitement and historical detail. Details of the time period are written into scenes as pieces of discovered treasure rather than long, drawn out descriptions. These gems of information add to the enjoyment of this fast paced story of patriotism and faith.
Faith Lytton starts out as a spunky ten-year-old with a brotherly friendship with the family neighbor's son, George. Watching this friendship grow was one of my favorite parts because there was no question of morals and intent. The author did a fantastic job at allowing the reader to understand the relationships among all the characters and she definitely created the right characters for the right roles.
The Patriot Bride was one of my favorite books in Daughters of the Mayflower series. I don't read a lot of series because no matter how good an author's writing style may be, I get bored of reading the same writing style over and over again. This doesn't happen with this series because all the books aren't written by the same author. This prevents what I call "writing-style boredom". Kimberley Woodhouse began with The Mayflower Bride and it was a great start to this fascinating series. I was thrilled to read the fourth book written by her as well. I highly recommend this series for those who want a quicker, lighter historical series.

The Patriot Bride (2018) by Kimberly Woodhouse is the fourth novel in the Daughters of the Mayflower series. This book comes in all forms including eBook, and is 256 pages in length. With a full-time job and a very busy six-year old at home, this novel took me four days to read. I received a copy of this book in eBook form from the publisher, Barbour Books. In no way has this influenced my opinion of the story. All opinions expressed in this review are my own. I give The Patriot Bride 4.5 STARS. This novel is Historical Christian Fiction.
I have enjoyed the novels so far in the Daughters of the Mayflower series, so when The Patriot Bride released I knew I had to read it immediately. Boy am I glad I did. This novel is a lot of fun. The Patriot Bride has well written and relatable characters, an engaging plot line, and fascinating historical detail.
I enjoyed several aspects to this novel. The first being the inclusion of George Washington and Benjamin Franklin as actual characters in the story line. Most of the time in historical novels actual historical figures are merely mentioned one or two times over the course of the story. But in The Patriot Bride, George Washington plays a pivotal part in Faith Jackson’s life. Faith, the heroine of The Patriot Bride, grew up following George Washington around wherever he went. When her entire family dies when she is a very young girl, George becomes Faith’s caretaker. My favorite part of George’s character is how protective a brother he becomes to Faith over the years. And, Benjamin Franklin is a mentor to Matthew Weber, the hero of this story. Franklin’s character is quite hilarious in most of his scenes, as he was in real life. If you have not read The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin by Benjamin Franklin I highly recommend that you do. It is one of the funniest books I’ve ever read. In real life, Franklin was a hoot!
Kimberly Woodhouse did a FANTASTIC job of capturing the time period. Most notably in how she portrays communication, or rather the lack of communication, in the 1770s in America. I very much realized reading this book just how spoiled I am today. I can contact anyone in my contacts list via text message, phone call, and/or email, and have almost instant communication back. Even our snail mail is amazing. I can order a book from Amazon and two days later I have it in my hands. This absolutely was not the case in 1770s America. Snail mail was just called mail back then! It took as long as it took. By the time one received “news” the news was two months old already. And, if a war was going on…forget it, you probably weren’t getting anything by mail. This communication issue was just a fact of life for these people. Mrs. Woodhouse did a great job of illustrating this.
My final favorite aspect to this novel is the discussion of man’s time vs. God’s time that is weaved throughout. Matthew very much wants to be with Faith. He’s sure she is the one for him, but the timing is off. A war is brewing and he does not think it the appropriate time to marry and start a family. So he puts things off with Faith. This is so true to humans! We all try to control our steps and our paths. We think there is a perfect, right time to get married. We believe there is a perfect, right time to have babies. We humans think we are controlling time. How funny we are. As Proverbs 16:9 (ESV) states, “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” This is why marriages happen when they happen and babies come when they come. God is the boss. If God puts love in your path, it’s God’s time for you to be in love whether there is a war on or not. In his own unique way, Benjamin Franklin’s character reminds Matthew of this unalterable truth. We humans can plan all day long, but God puts us where He wants us to be!
Overall, The Patriot Bride is a read I highly recommend. The characters are endearing, the setting is so well written I felt like I was in Boston during the 1770s, the messages are timely, and the historical detail is rich. If you are looking for an engaging and thoughtful historical fiction novel to escape into, The Patriot Bride is definitely the book for you.

Another fun story from Kimberley Woodhouse! Light enough to read woth one eye on my adventurous kids, but with enough depth that I didn't feel like I was reading twaddle!
I always appreciate the research time Ms Woodhouse puts in, it's always interesting to see what new tidbits I learn from her stories.
I was honored to be asked by the publisher to read this story in exchange for my honest review.

I’ve been enjoying The Daughters of the Mayflower series, especially the historical aspect of the different time periods and areas. The Patriot Bride by Kimberley Woodhouse is a strong and engaging addition to the series. The settings in Virginia and Boston during the Revolutionary War captured my interest. The characters are well-developed, and I especially loved Faith’s strength and independence. She just stepped up and did what needed to be done to take care of herself and those she loved. Brimming with historical detail, it’s apparent that Woodhouse has done much research about the era and what life was like in those days. I’m looking forward to the other books in the series.

I loved the spies, Faith and Matthew! The fictionalized accounts of George Washington and Ben Franklin made this story come to life. I loved how the women got involved, doing all they could to help the Patriots until they had to flee to safety. The spunk and determination of Faith moved me to want to help too, only I'm a little late.
Other than the Loyalists and Redcoats, there was a villain. He was a dandy, Anthony Jameson could not understand why Faith didn't want anything to do with him. He wasn't going to take “no” for an answer. He's just too perfect for her, in his eyes.
I love Faith's butler Clayton. He was a true friend, butler and more.
I highly recommend this book. It is part of The Mayflower Brides series but each book can stand alone. The link is that they all have a connection to a couple that met on The Mayflower.
I must thank Goodreads and Barbour Publishing for this book. I won a Kindle copy in a Goodreads Giveaway!

I like reading historical fiction books that are set during this time period (1752-1776) so this book was a fun read for me. During the course of Faith Lytton Jackson's work as a Patriot spy she meets Matthew Weber (a fellow Patriot spy who is friends with both Ben Franklin and William Franklin.) I thought it was interesting to read how Patriot spies dispersed information to each other using coded messages and I liked all of the historical notes by the author at the end of the book. However, there was one part in the book that seemed a little bit too unbelievable to me. Anthony Jameson was a little annoying and persistent with his marriage proposals despite being constantly rejected by the independent Faith. I'm wondering if there could have been another way to introduce some conflict into the book without him being involved. Although the author explicitly tells the readers that the friendships that Faith and Matthew have with George Washington and Ben Franklin are fictional, it was still hard for me to accept this change to actual history. This is my own hang-up, however, so it shouldn't influence others from reading the book especially since there were so many other parts of the story that were historically accurate. Fans of historical fiction and strong female leads will like this series. I feel like I can live vicariously through these women and all of their adventures since I'm a pretty introverted person myself.
