This was a quick and enjoyable Christian historical romance. I especially enjoyed the setting of the American colonies during the American Revolution. I also enjoyed that creative license was used to incorporate George Washington, and Benjamin Franklin as characters. The romance and relationship were slightly stilted for me, but I liked the overall storyline. This book had both suspense and humor. I skimmed some of the longer scripture passages that were inserted in the story.
This book can easily be read as a standalone, although it is part of the Mayflower Brides series.

Faith Lytton Jackson and Matthew Weber are devoted to the Patriot cause. The each accept missions that could get them killed, but are willing to sacrifice for the sake of freedom.
This was not my favorite of the series so far, in that it was covering so many months that it had to be a bit shallow. Due to this fact, [it was hard to really get behind Matthew and Faith's relationship, because it seems like it hadn't been all that long and that they couldn't really know one another, when really, it had been months that we just didn't read about.
I liked having a more personable way to read about George Washington and Benjamin Franklin. That was a neat aspect.
Jameson I wanted to knock upside the head with my book. Good grief!!

As far as historical fiction goes, this book seems as historically accurate as any. But I found the some of the characters realistic and others to be cartoonish. I was caught by the inconsistency. The more in-depth characters were the likable ones.

Unfortunately this book was a letdown. Faith is a widow who is very close with George Washington and wants to do her part for the Patriot cause. Mathew likewise is close with Ben Franklin and also wants to help the cause. These two will take risks and fall for each other in the process. Unfortunately it reads more like a novel meant for a much younger audience. There is a constant biography of Washington and Franklin and their importance and far too much reverence for them in the book that takes away any believability for them as characters. Mathew and Faith are rarely together and there is even less about their activities. There is a thinly written annoying nemesis who takes up far too much space. This book would have been better serve by leaving out the famous men altogether and crafting a story that had more to do with the actual cause.
There are so many stories from this time of patriotic women and their sacrifices but this fictional version did not even come close to portraying one worth reading. This book might be better served as reading for a middle school to early high school girl. The romance might be of interest to such a reader and they could glean some knowledge of the times from it. The book is very chaste with only a couple of brief kisses. I had previously read The Pirate Bride in this series, and although I had some criticisms of it, that was a much better book. It had an actual plot that moved forward. This book never seemed to really move forward and progress.

I was so excited to read another of Daughters of the Mayflower Series. I knew The Patriot Bride would be exciting because Kimberley Woodhouse also wrote the first in this series, The Mayflower Bride. If you like a well written romantic, historical, fiction book, with lots of excitement and adventure, this is a must read.
Faith Jackson, a very rich widow and Matthew Weber, a close friend of George Washington are both spies for the Patriot cause. If you have read the other books in this series, Faith's maiden name is Lytton. That is where she fits in the family tree that connects her to the Mayflower ancestors. Faith was best friends with George Washington growing up, even though he was several years older. Their farms were next to each other and their fathers were very close. When Faith was orphaned due to a fire in her home, she became the ward of George. He was only 20 at the time and his father too had passed.
The story contains several other characters from history. Benjamin Franklin, William Franklin, and Paul Revere, to name a few. Whether parts were actual or written using artistic liberties, I found this story exciting and entertaining. I would recommend this book.
I received this book from Barbour Publishing through NetGalleys. The opinions expressed in this book are my own

I enjoyed "The Patriot Bride" just as much as I've loved the other books in this series. The historical background is excellent, and the plot and characters are well developed. I truly enjoy the main characters interactions with real life historical figures, and appreciated the insight into the part many civilians played during the Revolutionary War. This story kept my attention throughout. I highly recommend this book!

Historical fiction at it's best. Intrigue, romance and history. This is a really
good series and I highly recommend this book. I received an arc from the publisher through netgalley the opinions are my own.

History, romance and intrigue come together to create an engaging story in book four of the Daughters of the Mayflower series!
A little bit more of a connection to book one given this is the same author, which made this interesting. Chock full of historical facts and figures, but with a lot of play on actual conversations and events, made the story feel plausible. The author includes a nice introduction and end notes to help sort fact from fiction.
Seeing the conflict from the main character's perspective helped me imagine what the people of the time actually went through as their land was occupied by martial law, and freedom became a battle cry. It must have been terrifying, yet they courageously laid themselves on the line, hoping for future generations to experience the freedom they sought. It made me appreciate even more the sacrifice of many who serve in the military today to maintain our country's freedom. Freedom is indeed not free.
There are some Christian themes and prayers for strength and direction. I liked the group of ladies who rallied around Faith to support her, and how they read through Psalms, memorizing verses for hope and inspiration.
Historical romance fans who like an inspirational read will probably enjoy this book.

A very charming addition to the Daughters of the Mayflower series - probably my favorite so far because I enjoy Colonial American history. The heroine and hero were delicious. I could have done without the huge full passages of Scripture, but seeing as this is Christian fiction, I knew to expect it, especially from this author.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

My Review
Genre: Christian, historical fiction
My Rating: 5 Stars.
Recommendation: 15+ up because of romance.
My favorite character/s: Matthew, Faith, Clayton, Marie, and more. I can't say that any character was more of a favorite, they were all favorites, I loved all of the characters.
My Verse for all of the characters is Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. King James Verison.
My thoughts: This is one of the best historical fiction books I've read. The author was well researched. I really enjoyed the author's way of writing. The Patriot Bride just pulled me into the book.

This is the first time I’ve read a book by Kimberley Woodhouse.
The story takes place during the few months leading up to the American Revolution and it revolves around a female spy for the Patriots, Faith Jackson. Historical and fictional characters mix, such as George Washington and Benjamin Franklin, and Patriot Spy Matthew Weber. It’s an interesting combination with an exciting plot – two spies meet and fall in love, but what are they willing to sacrifice for their country?
The book blurb enticed me. I was looking forward to cracking open the virtual spine. And when I finally found a few moments to begin the story I was…..bored. Yes. Really and truly bored. I kept finding other things to do while trying to focus on the paragraphs in front of me.
The opening scenes are choppy and I had to backtrack to make sure I hadn’t missed any information or hadn’t accidentally skipped a page. There’s lots of explanation given and at times I felt like I was being told rather than shown what was going on in the story. Matthew loses himself in thought TOO MUCH while in important meetings and to me, this just discredited him as a capable spy. He’s easily distracted – not exactly a James Bond trait. When it comes to dialogue, Matthew sounds more like a feminine type of character with his questions and elaborations while speaking with Faith. He sounds more like one of the women that Faith is friends with rather than a “manly spy” (if you know what I mean).
As for romance, it develops at a good pace and is kind of sweet between Faith and Matthew.
I don’t know much about George Washington’s or Benjamin Franklin’s personalities so I can’t really say whether or not they were portrayed well.
At times the text flows well and at other times I found myself distracted (much like Matthew Weber!).
I had high expectations for drama and suspense. Unfortunately, I was disappointed because of the choppiness of dialogue and text detracted from it. Romance was acceptable. I’m not sure about how accurate the historical details are but generally I think the author did well with bringing the reader into the time period.
I’m rating this book as a 3 star.
I received an ecopy from the publisher through NetGalley. All the opinions expressed are entirely my own.

This was truly an enjoyable book detailing the immense amount of subterfuge and danger the Patriots and even the Tories, I think, encountered as they fought for what they held dear. I loved how Faith Lytton Jackson is set up as a friend of George Washington, so we get to see much of this early American hero. I also enjoyed seeing insights into Ben Franklin and the rift in his family, imagining the hardship this would cause as many families were likewise torn asunder.
Faith is indeed a very brave, very strong female protagonist. She has to be, to survive so much heartache and also to be the community leader that she is. It is no wonder that she volunteers for such a dangerous job. Sometimes strong women attract the wrong kind of attention. How I laughed at her encounters with Anthony Jameson and how full of himself he was! And how I hoped that things would work out with Matthew, but Faith has already lost so much, will she be able to trust again? And how can two spies find it to forgive deceptions and to trust when their lives have been all about misleading others?
What a great thing it was to me to see the author forego the lengthy lists of her first book. Gone are the long vocabulary lists and lists of who's who that helped to get the first book of the series off to such a slow start. I did have to laugh; Kimberley Woodhouse just can't help getting as much historical detail in as she can, and she found a sneaky way at the end to include a document!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley. This in no way affected my opinions, for which I am solely responsible.

The Patriot Bride was the story of Faith Jackson and Matthew Weber, both spies for the Patriot cause with a lot on the line. Faith Jackson grew up with her best friend, and later custodian, George Washington. Matthew Weber followed Benjamin Franklin, his mentor. The two come together when the cause arises for secret messages to be passed; however, Matthew has the advantage of being a spy for both the Patriots and the British through his friendship with William Franklin. Through their meetings Faith and Matthew begin to develop feelings for each other. Though Faith does not come without other suitors because of her status and wealth, namely Anthony Jamison, a personal friend to the King, who will stop at nothing to make Faith his wife. Through determination and their love, Faith and Matthew defy the odds dealt them and find happiness in the end.
I loved this 4th book of The Mayflower Brides. It kept a good reading pace and the characters were so good, even the secondary characters of George Washington and Ben Franklin. The suspense of their being caught as spies and what might happen to them kept my interest throughout the book. If you are a reader of The Mayflower Brides this is a must read.

The Patriot Bride is an excellent choice for any who like historical, Christian fiction. It shows faith and trust in hard times. It weaves history and historical figures in with a few fictitious figures into a very compelling story you won't want to quit reading.
The characters were delightfully developed and given good personalities. The story was told so that you felt you were there.
I was slightly disappointed in the ending, partly because I didn't want it to end and partly because it left a little bit unfinished, but I don't want to give anything away so I'll leave it at that.
The editing was done well. I do recommend this book. This book was given to me and I am writing this review of my own free will and my own opinion.

This is the fourth book in the Daughters of the Mayflower Series. As I have enjoyed the other books in this series, I found this one to be fantastic as well! This book’s time frame occurs during the United States’ fight for independence. The main character centers on Faith Jackson, a widow. Faith is a woman of independence and courage who is willing to help her friends and those in need even to her determent. Matthew Weber is a spy who Faith befriends. Their interactions lead to ramifications that could benefit or harm the patriots who oppose Britain’s rule. This tale was suspenseful in awaiting what would occur next throughout the book. I loved this next addition to this series and have enjoyed reading the entire series as well. I highly recommend this book and the series! You will not be disappointed! I am looking forward to the next book.
***I was given a free electronic copy of this book from the publisher for an honest review. This is my honest opinion. Even though I received this copy free, I have purchased her books before.

What do Matthew, Faith, the expected Role of a Woman vs. bucking Society, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Virginia, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Patriots, Loyalists, the American Revolutionary War, Spy's, enprisonment, Freedom, & True Christian Love have in common? You Need to read Kimberley Woodhouse's book:. "The Patriot Bride" to find out!
This Fantastically Engrossing story, is the 4th in the Daughters of The Mayflower series. If you're like me, & love American Historical Romance, then You Need to Read this book. It is a standalone clean story, but the whole series is wonderful too.
I was able to read this story thanks to NetGalley.

Thanks to Net Galley for a review copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
I liked the premise – a widow spying for the Patriots and a Patriot hero ingratiating himself into Loyalist company to spy for colonists. Faith, a ward of George Washington himself, leads a group of Patriot ladies in coding and delivering messages to the Continental Army. Matthew, a dedicated Patriot, puts aside his loyalty and begins a campaign to spy on the British. Faith and Matthew meet many times, but there just wasn’t enough dialogue between them to help me see how they fell in love. A lot of pages were spent in full-blown scripture passages and the entire copy of the Declaration of Independence (with signees). This pumped up the number of pages, but didn’t really make the book seem any better for it. Some of the action just wasn’t quite believable to me. Love the history of our country and novels about the Revolution in particular, but I can only give this one a 2.

I have been enjoying the Daughters of the Mayflower series since the very first book The Mayflower Bride (also by Kimberley Woodhouse) and I am still enjoying them!
The Pirate Bride (to be released August 1, 2018) required a lot of research and inspiration for the author as she had to get inside the heads of some very real and important historical figures - Benjamin Franklin and George Washington for instance! But, rest assured the author did a wonderful job.
This particular book was heavy on Scripture, with many passages of the Psalms included. Faith Jackson, our heroine, is recruited to become a spy for the Patriots during the days when America was trying to break free of the tyranny of the English. I learned so much history about this time that it made me wonder why Canadians (of which I'm one) put up with King George. Did he not tax us in the same way? Were we too polite to rebel? I'm going to have to do some research now because this really bothered me.
That said, I loved the mystery and intrigue of this book! Matthew Weber, a Patriot, spying on the Loyalists never expected love to find him during such a dangerous time, but he meets Faith (who brings him coded messages) and love begins to bloom between the two of them.
One thing I loved about this book was the pompous character of Anthony Jameson. What a hoot this character was! He was determined to marry Faith and he wouldn't take no for an answer. Like me, you will be thrilled with how Faith deals with him.
I enjoyed this book very much and look forward to the next installment of The Daughters of the Mayflower.

The Patriot Bride is the fourth book in the Daughters of the Mayflower Series. This is the only book in the series that is written by an author who has written a previous book of the series. Kimberley Woodhouse is responsible for the debut novel, The Mayflower Bride as well as The Patriot Bride. I was not overly impressed with The Mayflower Bride, but I am really enjoying reading this series so I gave The Patriot Bride a chance. If you haven't read any book in this series, they can all be read as stand alone novels. The series is tied together by the Lytton family tree, American history, and spans the time period between 1620 - 1814.
Overall, I can say that I enjoyed reading The Patriot Bride which is set in Philadelphia during 1774. The prologue was very well written. I was instantly drawn to Faith and George and I found myself thinking...this is going to be a great story. For the most part, it was an entertaining story with likable and diverse characters set during an unstable time in American History. However, I felt that the characters lacked depth and development and that portions of the plot, if expanded upon, would have added dimension and a deeper connection between the novel and the reader. I appreciated the liberal use of Scripture and the message that God is a trustworthy God who never leaves us and whose mercy will see us through to the end. I enjoyed The Patriot Bride more than The Mayflower Bride, but my favorite of the series is still The Captured Bride.
The Patriot Bride will be available for purchase through your local or online book retailer August 1, 2018
Thank you Barbour Books and Net Galley for the free copy of The Patriot Bride to read in exhange for my honest review.

I loved this book! The characters were wonderful! I loved Faith and her butler Clayton. I got to read about about George Washington and Ben Franklin mixed with a romance. The author had historical information mixed in with the romance, it teaches the reader what all our for fathers went through to give us the freedom we enjoy today. This book will give you a sense of pride for your country. I would give this book 10 stars if I could. Will definitely read more books from Kimberley Woodhouse!
