I felt as if I were back among old friends as I read this latest in the DiNunzio/Risotto series. The book started out well and at the halfway mark, I was feeling like I was into a 5 Star book. There was tension, stress, humor and sadness as the law firm attempted to fight against the lawsuit that had been filed, and to fight against Mary’s enemy Machiavelli. That’s when it started inching downhill and ultimately imploded at the end.
The ending was so contrived and built on ethnic stereotypes...it felt like the author was just trying to wrap things up quickly and all the efforts by Mary and the rest of the characters earlier in the book just vanished. It bordered on unbelievable and left me wondering whether I had missed something regarding the murderer. Seriously? Machiavelli came off looking foolish, Mary’s hatred toward him got in the way, the whole Zen thing was far fetched and the scene with Machiavelli’s mother was just ridiculous. I love this series and this author but this felt like Scottoline needed to meet a deadline or something. Disappointed for sure.
.
Wonderful book! In a storyline that could be taken out of today’s headlines, the firm has been served with a reverse discrimination suit by three men that said that they weren’t hired because the firm is all women. There’s something fishy in the entire lawsuit but no one can figure it out. Then the only male employee, John, decides to resign & it causes more tension & problems. Besides defending themselves, they are trying an anti-trust suit & John was a big part of the team. As they try to rotate duties & pacify the clients, John is murdered & his girlfriend, Judy, is a person of interest. Can things get any worse?
Lisa Scottoline writes terrific legal thrillers with a touch of romance. She manages to keep the plot intense & interesting while keeping up a good pace. The storyline doesn’t drag. The women have really developed a sense of family at the firm & are shocked when John admits to feeling he won’t be advanced there. There are multiple storylines going on but they are all kept straight & resolved by the end of the book. I love that Mary’s loud, brash Italian family are a big part of the story & the way it ends.
Lisa Scottoline is one of my favorite authors. I think I have read every Rosato/DeNunzio book from the very beginning of the series, as well as her stand-alone fiction, and nonfiction. This latest book, Feared, is like catching up with old friends, and enjoying their successes. The story centers around a reverse-discrimination lawsuit. Philadelphia lawyers Bennie, Mary, and Judy are back, along with the full (and sometimes hilarious) supporting cast. Ms. Scottoline catches the reader up and re-introduces the characters, so I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this to a reader who is reading this series for the first time. I highly recommend this author, and this series!
I love Lisa Scottoline’s books and Feared is no exception. Well written plot with many twists and turns to keep the reader guessing.. Couldn’t put this book down. I highly recommend this book. My thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this arc. This is my unbiased review.
Fans of Lisa Scottoline and the Rosato/DiNunzio series will not be disappointed with Scottoline’s latest effort, Feared, which will be released August 14th by St. Martin’s Press.
While Feared works as a stand alone novel, it is book six in the Rosato/DiNuzzio series that focuses on a group of women attorneys in Philadelphia. Firm partner Mary is expecting her first baby and hoping for things to slow down, but at her baby shower, the firm is served with a reverse discrimination suit. While the firm’s three partners are women, the firm has one male associate, John who made some questionable remarks to one of the plaintiffs during his interview. John turns up dead, and firm partner and Mary’s best friend, Judy, is an immediate suspect
What I really enjoyed about this book were the twists and turns of the plot that kept me guessing to the very last page. I also loved how successfully Scottoline used her setting, especially South Philly, in her narrative, and the variety of colorful characters (many Italian) who assist the partners in their desire to seek justice for John’s death.
Like the earlier books in the series, Feared is a clever book about the law, good versus evil, and friendship with an extra dose of intrigue. I highly recommend this book. I'd like to thank NetGalley for providing me an advanced copy.
Ok, so I am a huge fan of Lisa Scottoline and with that being said, I cannot say anything negative about Feared. This is another in the Rosato and DiNuzio series which has a few things that have happened since the lapse book. Mary DiNuzo is pregnant and as usual a workaholic. The story is based around three men who sue the law firm because they were not hired, They believe it is because they are men. The Plaintiffs attorney, Machiavelli, has brought his game and is prepared to take it all of the way. As in other books by Scottoline, the characters are easy to like (the ladies anyway) and the storyline is very easy to follow. She does not throw unnecessary details at the reader or try to be too descriptive. I love this one just as much as the others and cannot wait for another of her 5 star books.
Thanks to netgalley and the author/publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review.
5 out of 5 for this one!
I look forward to being back in the world of the mostly female (this becomes important) world of Rosato and DiNunzio. I love the smart, sassy women, but Mary is my favorite by far.
This book, the sixth since she became a partner is old school Lisa Scottoline. There's a murder, there's a court case, and there's plenty of Mary's parents, friends, and the Tonys. The reader will enjoy the book for its suspense and its heart as Ms. Scottoline perfectly captures Philadelphia and Mary's Italian family.
Even if you have never read any of the other books, this one is easy to understand with a brisk plot and good pacing, but why deprive yourself? Head back and start from "Everywhere That Mary Went," and get to know these fun characters.
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and Ms. Scottoline for my free ARC.
I always enjoy Scottoline’s novel and this one did not disappoint. DiNunzio especially caught my attention - pregnant and being sued! What a combination but Mary continues to fight to clear her name even when all seems to be against the partners.
The latest Rosato & Dinunzio is a great one. Filled with twists and turns that keep the pages turning. As the book begins, the law firm is hit with a huge lawsuit claiming reverse discrimination. Three young gentlemen have applied for jobs and have been denied employment at Rosato & Dinunzio. Their lawyer is an archenemy of Mary. The ladies soon find out that they are being framed for the allegations of this lawsuit. Then, the only male lawyer at the office is murdered. Clients are leaving Rosato & Dinunzio as fast as they can. It's up to the ladies to prove that they are not murderers, that they are not discriminatory, that they are being framed, and to catch the murderer of their fellow coworker. Can they do all of this and restore their reputation?
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I love this series. These stories can be read as stand alone books as well. Rosato and DiNunzio is the perfect combo. Strong lawyers and even stronger women. Now their arch enemy has decided to use their firm, and they are being attacked from all sides. Each character holds their own and have interesting personalities. Very enjoyable!
I always like Lisa Scottoline's books. This did not disappoint. It will be especially popular at our library branch.
A good weekend read, but most of the book is the usual Rossato & DiNuzio - predictable. but saved by Mary's relatives and friends,
Thanks to NetGalley for a free copy of this book. As a fan of this series, it never fails to show how powerful women balance their lives. A heartfelt story line will please fans of RosaTo and DiNunzio law firm.
This is the first book I read in the series so the relationships were a little confusing. The mystery was amazing,I didn’t guess the guilty person at all.
I have never read a Lisa Scottoline book before but I can say I have a new author to follow. I really enjoyed Feared. Very good book. . Thank you for letting me read.
Lisa Scottoline never disappoints. A great read. I prefer the stand-alone books on social issues that she is a master of. This Rosato series is entertaining though.
I have always heard that doctors make the worse patients, well, in this story, lawyers make the worse clients. It was been many years since I have read a Lisa Scottoline book, and this one did not disappoint. If you like well-developed character profiles, then you will love this book. Albeit detailed, this one is a page-turner because you are eager to get to the final outcome. Well done!
FEARED. Scottoline

Bennie, Mary and Judy being sued, sex discrimination, not hiring males lawyers. The one they had, is murdered, who will be accused. Add to this the legal dialog of lawyers, and the case. The fun side is Mary’s family.Good plot, with a good legal case to follow, and murder, is part of a series, it can be read alone. Given ARC by Net Galley and St. Martin’s Press. For my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
Wow. Another great book from Lisa Scottoline! The ending has an unbelievable twist. I am a fan of her books. I was glad to see this one is as good as the rest of the series if not better.
Lisa Scottaline is one of mly favorite authors and I always look forward to her new books. I have read all of them! I am only giving three stars because I felt bogged down with so much dialog and seemingly not enough action. I was disappointed when the attorney 's demise turned out to be someone who did not seem to have a very real excuse for a murder, turned out to be the murderer. Felt sort of malipulated and seemed like a fast wrap up of all the preceding events. I will read Ms. Scottoline's future books and always look forward to them.
